Barbell squat are good for everyone. But the thing is that we need to aim mobility first, then on the technique or the skill and then strength.

barbell squats are not for everyone, especially if someone is tall and have long femurs. While you can elevate your heels and reduce ankle mobility demands squats are simply just not essential for developing leg muscles.

@@lean4ever_they are for everyone. It just depends in the person's goals. If you are training to be fit, healthy, mobile, or an athlete, or powelifter. Barbell squat is a must. If you don't care about your health, mobility, and movement, like some bodybuilders, then you must mean it isn't 100 percent optimal for muscle aesthetics and growth.

@@lean4ever_” not for everyone “ and “ for developing muscles “ are two different topics. Anyone can barebell squat provided they have legs but you’re right in saying it’s not needed for growth

@@lean4ever_ Anthropometry speaking any kind of squat is good everyone. You just need, when squatting align your knees with your toes and set the barbell in the correct position, whether is seating on your scapulas or your trapezius. It all depends if you have a short or a large femur.

Barbell squats are much better because you stabilize your self instead of a machine doing it for you, which improves your core strength

Ass to grass ain’t for everyone. Everyone is built different .you can still make gain as long as you have good form and know what muscle you focusing in. Ass to grass is more to target glutes at least for me 🤷🏾‍♂️

    • @lean4ever_
      @lean4ever_  Рік тому +7

Greater knee flexion or in other words more depth will target more of your quads. Glutes don't need lots of depth they need wider stance.

    • @danielkrome6640

Ass to the grass is not necessary as long quads are parallel to the floor.

You will get the same benefits from squatting at half decent anyways don’t need to go all the way down.

So yes this definitely something I have had a problem with squatting down far enough but then I realised instead of just using machines train your ankles by doing calf raises, dorsa extensions and stretches for your ankles.

I’m 6’8” with longer legs and I gotta say that barbell squats are just not it. I much rather do bulgarian split-squads or goblet squats with elevated heels

Barbell squats absolutely 100% do NOT need to be ass to grass. Your hip needs to come down to knee level making your thigh/femur run parallel to the floor and that is all that is necessary. If your hip comes any lower without perfect form, you risk all kinds of injury, namely lower back

That is not a smith machine.
I do not know the technical term for it.
Smith machines have weird rotating hooks and are fixed on one vertical track.
The machine you are using can move both vertically and horizontally, my college gym had one.

It is less safe for your body to go ATG. Your glutes and quads will develop as good if your glutes are slightly above, parallel to the ground without unnecessary burden on knees.
