    You don’t need to change the transmission fluid/oil with every engine oil change. Just unscrew the overflow bolt from the transmission just as you did when you change the oil. The transmission fluid/oil is full at the top of the overflow bolt port.

    I've got 25K on my Burgman and haven't experienced this but I have seen it mentioned enough to think it can be a real problem. Like one of the other guys mentioned, the reports seem to attribute this to synthetic oil. Normally I use that in my other bikes and stuff but on this one I am keeping it fossil based. So far no problems with mine doing this. Yea some towels or a catch can would have been the answer to prevent the spill on the floor but like many others here, I have made the same messes on occasion if I didn't think there was anything there. Still a worthwhile video. Keep up the good work.

    Ummm... I was a little surprised when you didn't get a container ready to catch the oil... and then watched it pool on the floor. Careful, you don't want to lose your shade tree mechanic's license! Good information to know about the seal leak.

    I noticed that my oil level dropped over the course of 3000 miles. It was full when I bought it. Weeks later I noticed it was at half way (in the middle of the sight glass). A few hundred miles later it was low. 2009 650 with 11,000 miles. I changed the oil and it looked a little dirty. I changed the transmission oil and it looked good. I am used to changing oil in my cars at 5000 miles and it still looking somewhat golden.

    • @ManCaveMayhem
      @ManCaveMayhem  20 днів тому +1

      @@michaelhord I’m sure it’s probably migrating from the engine to the transmission. They do that all the time. Just shorten the period of time that you normally change the oil.

      @@ManCaveMayhem Considering the look of the trany oil, I think you are probably right. I'm so glad I watched this video. I don't have a problem with changing the oil early I just didnt know how early really needed to do this. That said, should I really be using full synthetic if I'm changing the oil in the engine and the tranny every 2k miles? And it says in the manual that I don't have to change the filter every time. Maybe I could find a cheaper filter.

  • @bc65925

    I can tell you for a fact it migrates. I put to good of oil in my 2008 crank case (by to good I mean to many shlikum additives) and it migrated back and my clutch started slipping real bad. I rebuilt the clutch and the old plates were not worn out but after the rebuild all was well. So it was back to cheap non additive oil for me.

    Had the same problem on my 08 Burgman 650. It was worse if I used synthetic oil. Something about regular dino oil keeping the seal moist.

    • @ManCaveMayhem
      @ManCaveMayhem  5 років тому +1

      stew1138 I heard that it helps to runs the Dino oil. Probably because it’s a little heavier weight.

    • @stew1138
      @stew1138 5 років тому +1

      Used the same weight oil. I read somewhere that the seal dries up with synthetic oils and will shrink. Regular oil doesn't affect it that much. Did see a difference when I switched back. Alas, I sold my burgman and been hitting my head on a lightpole. Will need to change that lightpole soon.

    • @ManCaveMayhem
      @ManCaveMayhem  4 роки тому

      Patrick Mailhot there’s a seal between the two cases where sometimes the oil migrates. If you’re using non-synthetic it tends to do it less from what I understand. Just keep an ion it it doesn’t seem to cause any problems. Hope this helps thanks for watching👍🏻

    I noticed the white Burgie looks like its been Dark sided. How does it ride? I have a liitle shake going on, but cant tell if its from the front or back, 4200 miles on original tires. Mine is a 2011 model. Looking to put new tires on this coming spring, thinking about dark siding the rear. Most of my riding is on country roads. What do you think? Getting reading to change my oil, I will keep an eye out for oil migration. Thanks for the videos.

      Joseph benge I put approximately 6000 miles on the car tire and it’s been great I am getting a little bit of rubbing on the inner fender well so that is something that you need to keep an eye on. But it handles great and contrary to what other people say I feel totally safe on it. at this point there’s little or no wear. Thanks so much for the support!👍🏻

    Do you think the engine oil that is escaping through the seal to the transmission, accumulates to a stoppable amount in the transmission?
    Is there concern for a transmission oil leak?
    I have a 2018 650EX, do you think Suzuki addressed this issue?
    Thank you for your video work.

    • @ManCaveMayhem
      @ManCaveMayhem  5 років тому

      midlife101 I have a 2012 and haven’t had that issue but as I was told using synthetic oil could make the migration of the oil more likely. I’m not sure if you newer Burgman has the same problem. I’ve ran synthetic in mine and haven’t had a problem. Hope this helps.

    • @ManCaveMayhem
      @ManCaveMayhem  3 роки тому +1

      I would avoid using synthetic engine oil and just do a drain infill on your transmission as well. The oil tends to migrate no matter what just have to keep an eye on it I don’t think you need to replace a seal. A lot of it depends on your miles between oil changes etc.

    • @ManCaveMayhem
