Sugestions for towns to visit which are not very touristy if you are still in Albania:
Permet - the town without crime, beautiful, historic, more authentic life then in other cities in Albania.
Voskopoje, Vithkuq and Dardhe in the Korca region (south-east) - small historic and authentic towns.
Bajram Curri and Puke - authentic small north Albania Alpine towns.
Kukes - Northern Albania, also in the alps. Famous for a city of underground bunkers under the city and for sheltering 500K Kosova Albanians during the Kosova war of 1998-1999.
Most touristy towns: Vlore, Berat, Gjirokaster, Korce (these last two have the best traditional cuisine in Albania), Shkoder, Sarande, Elbasan.

Unfortunately my last day in Albania is today so I’m not going to be able to. I appreciate the suggestions though, I’ll probably be back to Albania one day! 😃

@@jessicaexploring When travelling like you are, you will come across unique things that you wouldn't be able to get anywhere, they will always remind you of your trip and bring back those memories. I still have things from when I went to a variety of countries and they always bring back memories for me.

Croation wine in Zadar. I had not thought before that Albania is a country worthwhile travelling to. 🍀👍

That took me a second to understand haha. Some of the best decisions are made after a glass or two!

Correction that tourists are told wrong: it is not the city of thousand windows but it is the city of one window over another window. Both expressions in our language are closely similar and I guess that's where misunderstanding has occurred! Yes, Albanian communisits had good relations with Soviet Union up to Stalin's death and then things went sour. Those red stars are a sign of that relation and of communism. Hope you had some good taste of our traditional food as Berat nails it. Good luck in your future travels.

It is the communists who actually fought the Nazis while the nationalists (right wing) mostly collaborated with the invaders. Their symbol was the red star and the red three pointed shawl, that's why the red star on the graves of the fallen.

Its not called the city of 1000 windows. Its the city of one on one windows(one window on top of another), dosnt make much sense in english tho.

Translations are definitely a struggle 😂 Thanks for the clarification though. It’s probably why I seen a thousand windows online because most people thought the translation didn’t make a lot of sense!
