  • Croatia could be the perfect country. A paradise of happy people, low prices, amazing landscapes and great travel. In this travel vlog I talk about what I've learned while living in Split for a month. Not just about Croatia and Croatian culture but also about how after only a few weeks in the country I changed my entire mindset and travel plans.
    I've lived in Croatia for about a month now and created various vlogs about my experiences not just in Split but throughout the country's nature, small towns and cities. In this monthly wrap up, I give my honest opinion on not only the things I enjoyed about Croatia but also the things I didn’t. This country taught me a lot about myself what I’m looking for when I travel to another country. It caused me to immediately switch flights and travel plans to a country I never intended on visiting!
    As these travel vlogs continue, I want to offer you a unique and honest perspective about the country I'm exploring. Due to the popularity of these monthly review style videos you can expect one at the end of every month. On top of that if there is anything you're curious about or want to see let me know in the comments and of course, subscribe to see my nomadic/living abroad journey.

    I enjoyed watching this. I visited Split late last year and fell in love with it! Reasonably priced in October, beautiful people, stunning nature and had the best weather. Went to the islands Brac and Hvar. I also used up my 90 days in Schengen area (possibly overstayed it) and had to go to Montenegro which is very close by ferry or a bus. Stayed in Herceg Novi (so many stairs, so pain with the luggage) then went to the noisy Budva and Ulcinj, close to the Albanian border. I am in their capitol Podgorica for a week now. It's an hour drive from port Bar (that has a train that takes you to Belgrade, Serbia). I'll probably visit their beautiful Skadar lake and go back to the coast, then Belgrade and Istanbul, Turkey before I return Down Under. I liked Budapest a lot. It kept its demographics and its originality. Great food and coffee culture. I totally recommend. Good luck with your travels!

    you might want to consider living a bit longer in each country. I know one month could be called a "slow travel" but as you can see yourself, it barely touches the surface of each culture. Anyway, I am glad you liked our precious country. And we hope to see you again

      Living in a country for one month? How about living in a culture.

    Been following your vids and I'm glad you had a nice time in Croatia. Just to clarify for others watching - car rental prices (as the airfares) change seasonally. So it'll be super cheap during the cold months, but from April up to the October - they usually go up by dramatically, because that's when there is the biggest demand. Also, the "things to do" are quite limited out of season, because not many locals will care about banana rides, jetskies or helicopter tours of the cities that they live in. I'm sorry you didn't take the opportunity to go any of the UNESCO National Parks while you had the car, ie. Plitvice or Krka lakes are quite beautiful and less crowded this time of the year. Also, near Plitvice Lakes, at Gorski Kotar - there're plently of non-sea things to do, such as mountain climbing, ziplining, adrenaline parks as well as affordable AirBnb's to take for a day or two. And for those worried about Schengen and visa, Croatia is the outside border - so you can easily make a day trip from Croatian coast to Bosnia (non EU) or Montenegro (non EU) and back.

      Thanks for some of the clarification, as with everything off season it is always cheaper it’s just a little hard to give my impression of the on season. I did go to Krka national park, it was in my city vs. nature video, I absolutely loved it. I do wonder what you mean with Croatia outside of Schengen though, as of this year it’s part of the Schengen zone. Glad you enjoyed the video 😁

      @@gofortheunknown Oh, guess I've missed that video than! I meant - Bosnia and Montenegro are both outside of EU and Schengen and super close when you're in southern Croatia. So you can take an hour long roadtrip to Bosnia or Montenegro and return back to Croatia, so that you reset your 30 day Schengen stay limit.

    • @gofortheunknown
      @gofortheunknown  Рік тому +1

      Ohh, I understand as a Canadian I have a 90 day limit and it’s a rolling time frame that does “reset” exactly. I can stay 90 days in any 180 day period. I’m not sure what it’s like for other nationalities though! I’ve maxed that out now though 😂

    Excellent recap! Can't wait to see Albania;) Some food for thought, as usual from me - off the beat locations will usually have less to see, that's why travelers go to main hot spots, more to do. Finding that balance will be difficult for you guys. Have you considered Turnkey yet?

    • @gofortheunknown
      @gofortheunknown  Рік тому

      I agree the balance is insanely difficult but I’ll keep trying! We have considered turkey and we plan on going we just aren’t sure exactly when.

      @@gofortheunknown if you do, it's better you go deep inland as the coasts and Istanbul are expecting a nasty earthquake. In the southern coast they just had a major one where north of 30K people died.

    Hello, I am Victor from Tampa Florida. We're retiring in 2024 and love the way you guys are traveling. The one month in each country is our plan to start doing in 2024. Do you guys use AirBnb mainly? Any recommendations on to start planning for the one month at the time in each country like you guys are doing? Continue to enjoy it.

      Hi there,
      I'm 65+ and I just got retired.
      Was tired of airports and redeyes, jumping on a few hours' notice from EU to the US and back, and so on, and on, and on....
      Now I'm retired, I can't wait to go for like a month's trip with my wife to the States.
      I've got a summer two bedroom + two large teraces + garden + swimming pool + all the amenities house near Split, Dalmatia.
      Maybe we can swap crash pada for the summer holidays?

    I live in France. It is a beautiful country! Just don't stay in the center of Paris if you are counting euros. Regarding Croatia, it is a small country along with its buddy, Slovenia. Both countries are selling any and everything as that is their job to take money from tourist. Half the country rents out their apartment to tourists and sleep on the couch of a friend or at their parents home. In exchange, they keep the rent money except for the 2% tax they pay to the government. Then the rest of the year, they do nothing. All the comments I read is how can they charge more. They don't realise that soon the world will be in another Great Depression. Tourists will remember what happened to them and never return.
