CX-90 in person looks a lot more premium than any of the mainstream crossovers. Some angles looks more closer to a Cayenne.

Get the Mazda If you dad trying to hang on to when you were cool. If you are single you shouldn't be buying anything with a 3rd row. Get the Toyota if you fully embrace being the family man and father.
New father's will buy the Mazda 20s to early 30s... 35-40+ are getting the Toyota because it's not about who gets there first, it's about getting there first comfortably and safely and in the most cost effective way.

@@bryana8383 you're severely misinformed. The Mazda has WAY better safety ratings, it's a top safety pick plus, the highest accolade possible from IIHS and when you look at the data, you can see exactly why. Also, in the past when message did achieve safety accolades, they had it revoked bc they were caught strengthening the test vehicles to achieve higher scores.

Mazda is more like BMW in driving. It's more stiffer, glued to the ground. The steering wheel is a little heavier ,but what gives more sporty handling. Mazda will give a run for the money to BMW and the rest of the German luxury SUVs . Mazda is much better made than Highlander.

CX90: luxry looks inside and outside, fun to drive, decent space
GH: Bigger 3rd row, so more practical when u need the 3rd row.
Reliability ratings based on consumer's reports for Mazda and toyota are #4 and #1, respectively, for 2023 among all car brands in the US. So I'd say they are both very reliable.
Still dont know why savagegeese is so harsh on cx-90's driving dynamics!!!!

@@lbguitar funny thing, but it actually can be made only through non-touch control in the Mazda media system. So their touch screen only works when you are not driving and not in the music player. So their design is made so that you would be forced to use the joystick and not a touch screen. Compared to Toyota with a full touch screen, this is way previous level, or yeah, kinda another 😅

Personally I think Mazda only heats the side of the steering wheel to encourage drivers to place both hands on it and in the correct region. It aligns with their philosophy of car and driver being one, as well as them maximizing safety.
Btw, the Mazda has been tested off-road and it’s very capable. Definitely better than the gh.

The CX-90 can be optioned with the digital rearview mirror, it just doesn't come standard with any trim level. It seems to me that Mazda is more concerned with the quality of the materials, design, and driving experience, and less so with being as technologically advanced as possible, which I personally admire.

I love the design of the CX-90 and Mazda in general as I own a CX-5. However, I was watching the Car Care Nut channel and he’s mechanic. He basically said that the CX-90 is hard to maintain because it’s over engineered like a German car… sigh. For practicality, I’d actually get a Grand Highlander because if it’s third row space and great gas mileage if it’s the XLE Hybrid.
Anyway, it’s what’s most important to you which car you prefer.

I test drove the hybrid GH twice before proceeding with the PHEV CX-90. Ultimately it came down to the lack of power on the non hybrid max models. The plan was to tow a trailer for camping and the GH would have underperformed there. Like the video said both have their pros and cons, and some won't become apparent for years to come. The Toyota will hold its value much better than any Mazda IMO. There is a near cult following for Toyotas.
The Mazda PHEV is an amazing piece of tech, but it could have been executed better. Mazda should have gone with a rotary ICE powerplant on an otherwise all electric drivetrain with battery pack like the 2025 Ramcharger concept. It would have done away with the transmission, rear diff, driveshaft, etc. and saved a lot of weight, increased efficiency and range, made it less complicated to maintain and more. The range of the 90 is not quite enough to make it through a busy day without dipping into the gas. It also needs a slightly bigger EV motor. Overtaking on a hill requires you to think ahead and throw it in sport mode, otherwise the transition to ICE is very jarring when you push past the pedal override.

Good comparison between these two. Overall I would take the Toyota, 1: Reliability 2: it beat the Mazda inline 6 in Draggy. Mazda inline 6 is going to have a lot of problems, it's new to market so tweaks would need to be made over the years as Mazda will find out the issues and problems. Already mechanics are talking about how much of a nightmare it's going to be to work on Mazda Engines including the Hybrid models. So for that reason I would rather take Toyota.
