I've been married to the same woman for over 36 years. There have been door slams, harsh words & very troubling times. Yet we are still together, commitment takes both of you to want it to work. Even during the worst of it, we both knew we wanted it to work. Sometimes it takes courage to get out of an abusive relationship. But it takes just as much courage to fight for it! Getting married is easy, STAYING married is hard work & takes great commitment!!!!!!
I love Meatloaf's voice. He is a wonderful singer, and showman. He brought wonderful theatrics to his shows and performances. He still stands out above the crowd. He had his own sex appeal...heavier or not
Loafs songs are written by Jim Steinem. Bat out of hell and back into hell are musicals.they tell complete stories of the life of Jim's protagonist. They must be viewed as a whole complitation.not just individual works.
Steinman wrote a German musical called Tanz der Vampir that features an interesting rendition of Total Eclipse of the Heart from the perspective of a Vampire. He also wrote Its All Coming Back to me now for Celine Dion. Loaf got to sing it on Bat Out of Hell 3. And...Bonnie Tyler's Holding Out for a Hero...also a Steinman gem. The man is a lyrical genius.
This is another one of those songs that I know EVERY line from. I knew a girl that had the Ellen Foley part memorized and we’d wail this song at karaoke bars; I even memorized the Phil Rizzuto play by play part in the middle. This thing is a three part opera and it’s high energy the whole way. A total workout. But tons of fun.
I never knew Karla Devito was lip syncing this video. I think her facial expressions, make up, and body language were absolutely perfect for the song. Meatloaf does everything in a dramatic operatic manner. His songs are presented as a rock opera. He was nicknamed Meatloaf by his football coach.
They did a similar thing on I Would Do Anything For Love - the original singer is Lorraine "Mrs Loud" Crosby, but they put another woman in the video. But to his credit, Meat always made sure to stress that it was Lorraine, and so she could have the recognition. She's a lovely woman, and has a hell of a voice.
She sang live at concerts she is singing the song in real life but for video from an actual concert they put recorded version over the live performance
You really have to listen to the entire album, since every song is part of the story of him going from free spirit (Bat out of Hell, All Revved Up and No Place to Go), to lustful boyfriend (Paradise by the Dashboard Light, 2 out of 3 Ain't Bad, You Took the Words Right Out of My Mouth) to the finale where he finally admits his love in "For Cryin' Out Loud". Its an entire story, and listening to one song by itself is like reading from one chapter of a book and deciding whether its a good story.
Meatloaf was not a song writer. Jim Steinman wrote just about everything he sang. Steinman is an incredible song writer. You know many of the songs he wrote besides the ones by Meatloaf, such as Air Supply, Bonnie Tyler, and many others.
It's the magical combination of his voice and Jim Steinman's storytelling in his compositions. Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad, Bat Out Of Hell, I'm Gonna Love Her For Both Of Us and so many more. Meatloaf spoke for every fat kid who never got the girl in real life. I was that kid, and I still am.
What I love about Mister Loaf is the deeper meanings. For instance in Paradise by the Dashboard Light, it's a cautionary tale about young lust. He swore his love so they could have sex, then although he was honorable and didn't break his vows, they both regret it because they can't stand each other. In Two Out of Three Ain't Bad, It's about how he wants and needs the woman, but he can't give her his love because he'd given his heart to another years ago, and in a twist, she told him the same thing, that she wants and needs him but can't love him. So sad and touching.
My uncle had a 1971 Gran Torino with an 8 track player. Meatloaf - Bat out of Hell was by far the most played tape. There was also Deep Purple - Deepest Purple and one of the Foreigner albums, but there was something special about Meatloaf. At 9 years old, I had this album memorized. Every song, in order. Even the track switch gaps. Without the tape playing, I could sing every song in order... I had to hum the instrumentals or it would mess me up. The song is about teenage hormones forcing someone into a relationship that wasn't good. The girl won't give up her virginity without commitment. Guy promises commitment "until the end of time". They get married, now he is praying for the "end of time" because they can't stand each other. Meatloaf was a stage actor before a singer. That is why he is so flamboyant on stage, and the clothing style. The songwriter Jim Steinman heard him sing during a play and they teamed up. Think of him as a stage actor who sings and think of every song as part of a stage musical and he makes sense. He is in his own genre. No other artists are similar. None even close. Maybe Freddie Mercury is closest? If anyone out there can think of any, I'd be interested in your thoughts.
You are spot on that writing is dribble. A committed relationship is about working together for a common goal. Taking on the world as equals helping each other along the way, loving each other.
Meat & JSteinman wrote the music in a theater-style storytelling mode... and the third member involved in creating this monster album was Producer /Arranger / Guitarist / backup singer Todd Rundgren. No label wanted to distribute this music, saying it was too theatrical. Todd said that 25 years after they created the album, he was still getting huge royalty checks each year. It’s sold more than 43 million copies, that’s 14 times platinum, and still sells over a hundred thousand copies a year! Insane. So, the spoof of Springsteen has sold more than the real Boss’ material!
Even now you will hear this song on the radio every day in Australia. Us Aussies took to this album in a major way and made it a massive success locally while the rest of the world ignored it as being too overblown and ridiculous. Of course, soon everyone else caught on and it became the monumental worldwide classic it is today. Here in Australia you still hear songs like 'Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad' and the title track every day on radio. We feel we 'own' this album, and we celebrate it as such. Much like ABBA, but that's another story...
I've got tears in my eyes from this one....Kel's reactions went all OVER the map!!! And Rich is just jammin along and smiling.....Oh, this is such a great watch. Gotta go wipe my tears now. :)
17:50-20:50 is absolutely right...I'll also add that it's lying on the floor below a hospital bed, so your partner dying of cancer won't fall and hurt themselves further. It's also listening to your husband's gut-wrenching sobs at the loss of his father. It's disagreeing about the small stuff and the big stuff, then working on a compromise because "til death do us part" means just that--compromise until someone is dead. And yeah...sometimes getting to that compromise is messy! And loud, since not all compromises are just about where to eat dinner on Friday night. Trust me...by 55 years old, there have been MANY much more difficult issues to work out. Together. Which has been a choice--sometimes daily--for a long time. But it's better to work it out for me - best years of my life.
How meatloaf got his name: 1. When referring to a rookie player, who is has more physical talent than intellectual smarts, the veteran teammates may refer to him as meat. His coach named him meat because of his weight. The nickname stick with him. What I like about Meatloaf: 1. He is noted for his powerful wide-ranging operatic voice and theatrical live shows. 2. He is a Huntington - Wagner tenor. The Huntington is the German equivalent of the tenor dramatic, however with a more baritone quality: the typical Wagnerian protagonist. Huntington has an approximate range from the C one octave below middle C (C3) to the C one octave above middle C (C5). Note that the Huntington voice possesses tremendous vocal weight. 3. Meatloaf symbolizes how relationships were/are between men and women on the low down nitty-gritty level. Women want a relationship/status. Men are little boys that act like little boys, they want shinny things and lots and lots of attention. 4. "Paradise by the dashboard light" is making love in the car/pick-up truck as a teenager. You want it now without the responsibilities that go with it. Satisfying that cardinal emotion of Love and Lust. :-)
Meatloaf is the vocalist, Jim Steinman was the songwriter, Bat out of Hell is a rock opera, like Tommy or Rocky Horror, Jim is telling a story through music and he expected the audience to listen to the songs in order. When you back off and see it as a production, not a concert, it makes more sense! As heard on the radio, it's just a song without context, Michael and Jim argued often about an audience accepting an opera . You might be surprised that he was in "Hair" on Broadway! My wife and I just celebrated our 39th anniversary 4 days ago and this is our theme song!
Indeed. The letter seemed not at all about tolerating abuse more but about... well, when life gets crappy, you stick together, work it out- even though it might be hard. Voices get raised out of passion, hopefully not to demean. And the part about your partner driving you crazy... I really thought that was a given about two people interacting EVER. You tolerate the differences in order to be civil although you might still think certain choices and/or aspects of a personality are odd/difficult/infuriating (at times). Yes, you celebrate the person for who they are- knowing that the differences are the spice.
You guys are AWESOME together....both of you have obviously gone through some stuff before you met and NOW you get it! You guys clearly love each other dearly and I hope you 2 live a happy and fantastic life together! SO happy for you both!
Going out in high school in the car on a Friday night....us girls singing the Ellen part and guys singing Meatloafs!!! In the parking lot!!!!!! Thought we were in "Grease" or something!!!! I'm sitting here singing at the top of my lungs!!!! THANK YOU FOR THIS!!!!!😎😎😎😁😁😁😁🎧🎸🎷📻🥁🎻🎺🎹🎶🎵📯🔥🔥🔥💛💛BTW NOBODY WENT ALL THE WAY THOSE NIGHTS!!!🙄👍
Meatloaf live performances were as much theatre as they were musical. This video is a great example of it. I saw a live performance by him and the band in the UK and it was very dramatic, as well as musically great and highly entertaining. His interaction with the backing singers and the audience made the show all the more enjoyable.
Jack Black reminds me of Meatloaf. I have no proof, but I would not find it surprising to think he may have had influence from Meatloaf. The song is a story of a young man and a young woman (barely seventeen) parking and making out. When it finally got to the home plate, he was crazy and driven, she was crazy and driven, but was not going to let him finish until she had assurance of a continued relationship (ie marriage). He was on the edge, and tried to put it off, but in the end he promised to marry her. Now at that point we do not know how much time passed, but a certain amount of time (Long ago and Far away), and now he is feeling constrained and so is she (She shared the same vocals). She is remembering that it was never better than that night.
The song "I would do anything for love" Is a man saying he will do anything for her love but she thinks he will cheat on her lie to her and so on but he says "I wouldn't do that" , so I don't know how you understood it or what it is about the song that you don't like about it because it is a some what of a LOVE SONG. As for the song "Paradise by the dash board lights" I see it as a cautionary tale for young lovers, how he was all for her and how she was the most beautiful girl in the school and how was still so young and hormones ragging and how was feeling that night, and that the only way he could see getting in pants so to speak and he made a commitment to love her for ever, the cautionary part is that don't jump into a commitment because a commitment is a long time you don't really know each other that well and if you're getting married just to get in bed with someone then you will regret it and you could be miserable for a very long time. As for what you read off of the phone, that has nothing to do with the song they are two completely different things, but I can see from what you said about your past relationships you might think that the beginning is not a good sounding thing, but I do believe what it is talking about is NOT an abusive relationship but of a relationship where "the honey moon" is over and you start to see little flaws in the other person about how no one is perfect (even you too) how it's ok if you realize that but to not give up on someone at the first sign to remember how much you two love each other and to work things out with an open mind and not just bail at the first sign of something small "like in your sleep he or she might roll and take the blankets with them by accident or how someone might be having a bad day" and to just let them be and not push on them let them(him/her) work it out for them self's if they don't ask for help from you to just let them be and they will feel better tomorrow and so on. But I think your judgement is clouded because of your past relationships and because of that you don't know what a normal relationship is like because yes you two are in deed still in your honey moon phase, talk to us in about another 5 to 10 years and let's see if every thing is still so perfect, remember it is normal to disagree with someone you love (not fight or argue) but if both have an open mind and listen to each other and try to understand each other you might get threw it. No one is a perfect match you might like one kind of food and the other person might not, one might like one kind of color and the other not so much or one might not like some cloths you like so what then? get divorced? No you compromises relationships are all about compromising if you say no it's not then you're still in a dream world. Sorry i went on far too long...
First time I heard this I was in my mid 20s, just bought the album. Had a set of Koss tower speakers, a kenwood turntable, with a Shure cartridge. Cranked it up to where the speakers were getting the better part of 250 watts of power cranked up to where you felt it in your bones. Was so inspirational and it took me back to my high school days out in the sticks with a parking tape in and trying my best to score. Anyone in their alt 50s to 70s knows what I’m talking about. No telling how many time this was being played out then. Todays youth will never truly experience this feeling. Kudos for picking out this classic song.
Some of my favorite Meatloaf vocals are on Ted Nugents' "Free For All" album for example Summertime. The duet he did with Cher is also fun, "Dead Ringer for Love".
Meatloaf AKA Michael Lee Aday originally Marvin Lee Aday.. had a made-for-tv movie about his life. Interesting side-note he played a patient on the Fox TV show House M.D. the patient's name was Eddie. There are other references to Rocky Horror and Meatloaf's music.
You guys are awesome and laying out your feelings for each other. 40 yrs. Married myself to a friend 1st my wife now as well i am so blessed. God don't make junk. For as song love this song my favorite by Meatloaf I to have and still heavy in weight. Still give my all in school and sports and. Still played softball up till 6 years ago now at 63 yrs. Old retired life has shown me new things. God Bless you both. You 2 are obivious that truly in love and life partners. Kudos from Big Z from Texas 🙏✌🏼
Great tune. The girl in the video is not who sang on the recording. You guys may remember the old TV show Night Court. Before Markie Post was the public defender there was a lady with short blonde hair named Ellen Foley. SHE is the female singer on this tune. Just a bit of trivia.
Meatloaf is a rock opera! Thanks for your review! Another great song and album from my teen years. I had just gone in the Air Force when this came out. A VERY popular song on base at the Airman's Club. I love Kel's sound effect.
This is such a classic. I particularly love the part that starts at about 11:05 when the two are each singing their own side of the "argument" at each other at the same time. It's synced so well, it's incredible. Heck, the entire song is pretty incredible. As for Meatloaf, he sings songs like this with such energy and passion, it's amazing. Also, I think that this particular some is so perfect for a live performance, because of the interaction between the two singers. It seems like a studio version would lose this.
The °schtick° about Meatloaf, as Kel is asking, is one of the first, if not the first, to bring together rock and musical theater together and have that kind of success. He was great singer with a unique style, but also an incredible actor too. And NOBODY was doing this at that time. And Jim Steinman's piano and songwriting style was one of a kind and worked perfectly with Meatloaf's style. His "size" made him all the more unique and endearing. There will never be another Meatloaf.....
@@floorticket Anybody that knows anything about Meatloaf knows that. Jim Steinman teamed up with Meatloaf often and he wrote most of his songs for him, like Bernie Taupin and Elton John.
Hi there I remember this when it first aired in Scotland in 1979 0n a music station called The Old Grey Whistle Test. Our reactions were the same as Kel's. But like Rich, Meatloaf was my era THANK GOD. Great reactions ✌✌
A thing about Meatloaf and most of his songs, Kel: Meatloaf is pretty good at tongue twisters, and had a great ability for reading certain lines that many ppl have trouble. He was picked/chosen to play the character Eddie in the musical Rocky Horror Show because of this. Most of his songs titles are Oxymorons. And there's a message implied. Kel mentioned she didn't like the song "I would do Anything for Love, but I won't do that". Notice the seemingly contradictory terms? But there is also a message implied: Most ppl swear in absolutes, but as humans, we also have limits. Especially when we are in love. Another example of this, is the song "Nowhere fast". About a relationship to be going nowhere...and he says, lets go Nowhere fast. Paradise by the Dashboard Light/Let me sleep on it - the song describes the relationship pattern showed when kids at 17, having a car, about to get overboard with their hormones. He wants sex, she wants relationship. He is so desperate, he ends up accepting...but then both regret it. Since marriage involves making a vow to stay "til'the end of time", that is why they're desperate to get there because they can't stand each other. This song was made in a time were divorce was something rarely done. Most couples would stay together in cold relationship. Of course, nowadays its just a quick divorce. The baseball commentator is an analogy about how the boy is trying to get on her panties and making a Home run.
I listen to jam music like Phish and the Dead, prog music like Tool and Yes, and even some old-fashioned kick-ass classic rock like Van Halen and AC/DC. But I always come back to Paradise By The Dashboard Light at least once a week, and I will continue doing it until I finally check out. How do I know that? I've been doing it for 40-something years already, so I doubt I'll stop now 😁
I remember listening to this in the late 70's on 8-Track. What I like about it is is a very well crafted story. It's almost a complete musical in one song.
I saw that tour at the Royal Oak theatre in Royal Oak Michigan in 1977. He sang a couple songs on the Ted Nugent FREE FOR ALL ALBUM. This concert was one of thee best concerts I have ever seen. KEL - THIS ALBUM IS AN OPERA.
There is a live version of the two on YT which, to my knowledge, is only available for the UK. This version is a bit longer and in the end very clear in text and gesture. Who gets the car? Who gets the TV? Definitely worth watching.
Guys, this is great. I'm sure someone posted this but, This video was played at the beginning of the Rocky Horror Picture Show when it played at midnight at the 8th Street Playhouse in the Village in the late 70's.
This song.. It's such a classic. I really appreciated that Kel truly tried to understand the story that was unfolding. Her face through most of it was hilarious. It's a sad story tho, isn't it? It's a story of two kids making poor choices and not having the outcome they thought they would. How many people can relate to making those poor life choices? The performance, much like all Meatloaf performances is dramatic and theatrical and I think that was one of his appeals. No matter what he looked like, no matter what some people thought of him all he had to do was open his mouth. When that voice came out, it would shut up all the naysayers. Love me some Meatloaf. RIch is right, he's an amazing songwriter and artist.
Damn right it's sad, another woman tricked a man into a lifetime of misery, when all he wanted was a little fun. Poor fella, he should have kicked her out and made her walk home.
The ruffled shirt and red shirt was just what he wore on stage when he performed. They were like his trademark, like Michael Jackson's glove. He was born Marvin Lee Aday in Dallas, Texas, but later changed his first name to Michael. According to some sources he was given the name Meat Loaf when he played football in high school and accidentally stepped on the coach's foot, making him yell, "Get off my foot you big hunk of meat loaf!" Ot something like that.
Never had an album cause such craziness. Went one Friday with a bunch of friends to buy albums and was intrigued by Meatloaf. Went home played the albums and this was the last one. This song had us all on the floor laughing uncontrollably!! (Yes some external aids involved). When we saw the video one day....yep barely able to breath from laughing. Thanks for doing it. Hadn’t heard it for some time.
Meatloaf got his start as Eddie in The Rocky Horror Picture Show. He got into theatre as an escape from an abusive father & being bullied his whole life because of his weight. The piano player was the guy who wrote the songs on the Bat out of Hell album which was a concept album. Meatloaf was hired to sing & perform a character. The shirt is part of the character. After each performance every night he was given oxygen, as he gave everything he had to his performances. So you could say he was a actor performing a musical, more than a singer. By the way, the song is about two, 17 year olds about to lose their virginity to each othe rin a car parked by the lake (paradise by the dashboard light). & the last line is my favourite, "so now I'm praying for the end of time, so I csn end my time WITH you, (because he does love her)
Absolutely one of the finest albums ever created... There is not a single skip track on the entire thing... Jim Steinman's genius coupled with Meatloaf's singular talents.... Wow.....
This whole album is a rock opera of teenage angst and love. It is a story and you need to listen to it from start to finish. When this came out in the seventies, the radio was full of disco and dance music. Then out of the blue came this rock album that didn't take itself seriously. You felt like it was going to be a one-off event before you heard it. And when you put it on the turntable and let the needle drop, you were instantly smacked across the face with this powerhouse of music. It was so different from anything else. It was unique but mostly it was what so many music fans had been wanting for so long. It was a wonderful time to be a music fan.
Still one of the greatest Albums ever released in Music History.I loved this Song right from the Beginning, when i first heard it centuries ago. What a LOVE Song!...Right from the REAL LIFE ;) ....hope for more Meat Loaf to react to !!!!!..."Objects in the Rear View Mirror" for example...one of the best lyrics i have ever heard!
In the 80's, blasting this 8-track in my car with my gf's singing along was one of my most favorite memories EVER. We were in high school & simply enjoyed time together, singing along to our favorite music. Such happy times. Music unites us & takes us back to a familiar place.
meat loaf is my all time fav. not only because of his talent and presence. but because cause i can see so much of myself in his story. like meat i grew up in a bad abusive home. i was bullied and made fun of i was a bigger kid and never fit in. and like meat my only outlet was music when you are up on stage performing you can channel all that negativity into something awesome and creative. I also deal with Major depression anxiety and PTSD and I can always turn to meat loafs music to help me feel better. sadly i have never gotten to met meat loaf, the last time he was in my area a couple years ago i was homeless and dead broke. he no long tours due to health problems and his voice isnt what it was. but he is still a hero to me and i hope someday i get to be able to tell him that.
This is a cautionary tale about young love and early commitments. They made the decision in the heat of the moment, and decades later, they’re stuck in a faded relationship without any of the heat they felt this one night. That night was so long ago and far away that remembering it feels so much better than the situation they’re left with in the present, but they both promised to stay together forever and won’t break that promise.
Kel mentioned Meat Loaf's ruffled shirt. She needs to know that Jim Steinman wrote this album, in his own words, as a "rock opera." Thus, Meat's on-stage persona is that of an opera rock star. By far my favorite album of all time for personal reasons. 😉
The costums.... 1970's....they had gone to the High School prom together, then went parking in a car afterwards to make out. Thus "Paradise by the dashboard lights. They got right up to the "Homerun" or all the way, when she stopped him to find out if he loved her. After a few rounds, he said "it suddenly hit him like a titalwave" ... he had to have it, so he vowed to love her til the end of time. So she let him in. Teenage angst, raging hormones. They were barely seventeen and they were barely dressed. He had a heldentenor voice, powerful and dramatic.
Love Meatloaf’s theatrical presence, and his song lyrics always tell a story. Listened to Meatloaf all through the 80’s and this song was played at my wedding reception The marriage is over but the song is still in my life 🤣
BEST. MUSIC. VIDEO. EVER!!! the voice of the girl singer belongs to Ellen Foley, who played the 1st defense attorney for the 1st season of the tv show series ''night court''. Although Karla DeVito (who toured with Meat Loaf in support of the album) is featured in the music video, DeVito is lip synching to Foley's vocals.
Ellen Foley can be seen in the TV show, Night Court. She played Billie Young. She was there for only one season because the producers didn't think she and Harry Anderson had sexual chemistry. She was replaced by Markie Post. The producer's original choice but was under contractual obligations to the show, The Fall Guy.
The song is about prom night romance, he is dressed to character! That is a prom tux pants, shirt and suspenders! A moment of passion with a bad lasting effect!
Michael Oday is Meat Loaf. He's from Dallas TX. He got the nickname meat when he was a kid playing football in high school. Not sure when he added the loaf. His big break was being part of the cast to The Rocky Horror Picture Show on stage and the movie. He also sang on Ted Nugent"s Free For All album when Derek St. Holmes had temporarily left Ted's band. His daughter is married to Scott Ian of thrash band Anthrax.
Thank you for this one. I hate the metal selections, but that's okay. Not everyone like what other people like, but who in the world doesn't love Meatloaf?! Classic.
From what he read on the phone I saw it as this: Real love isn't just the fun, happy, and sexy times that new couples have with one another. That's just thin surface level (shallow) love. As time goes on that initial shallow love fades and you are left with real life. This may just take be weeks or months. If that's the extent of the love between two people it's a very shallow relationship that won't have a very long future. Real deep love doesn't just happen like some child's fairy tale, it's not like a chemical reaction that occurs when the correct ingredients are combined. Real deep love requires some work. It's what keeps couples together through the tough times. The boring day to day grind that life is. The times when you argue with your special someone. It's what gives you the desire and motivation to work through those tough times to get past the troubles and end up in a better place together. What he read on the phone wasn't anything like saying you should stay with someone who abuses you. What was mentioned was stealing bed covers, snoring, slamming doors, harsh words, and the silent treatment. Yes these are issues that need to be worked on but it's not abuse. The stealing of bed covers and snoring happen while people are asleep and they don't even know they are doing it - are you saying you would leave a relationship on this??? Even slamming doors, harsh words, and silent treatment just sound like an argument. People who are really in love with each other would want to work these problems out to improve their relationship. These aren't unusual problems, these are very average issues couples will run into. The fact you two seem to indicate it's something you may end a relationship over doesn't sound good for your future together. What would happen if real issues come up like infidelity, disfiguring accident, or major disease? "Well, this is just too much work. Time for me to bail now." I could never be with someone who would think something like taking the bed covers could eventually lead to ending the relationship. (Just buy another comforter. Problem solved.)
I have loved that performance since I was closer to 17, now I am closer to 70. There was a time when it was on almost every station near New York City. What makes watching it even better is Kel's reaction and your discussions. Rest in Peace "Meatloaf."
Meatloaf is a rock broadway play band. Remember, his first brush with anything was in the movie “ the Rocky Horror Picture Show “. He was into acting before music, so he combined them since he fell in love with acting.
Okay here's what it's about it's about two people that can't stand each other they didn't like each other but yet they're so hot for each other. Meatloaf is also a performer or was meaning before acting and stuff like that. Kelly you're right most people aren't as big as he was. I've seen him in concert back in the 70s. I believe that came out in 1977 or 78 one of the other two I graduated 78. And I couldn't believe the moves that he was doing to. But as your husband said yes he's a very talented songwriter performer songwriter it even though he's been in a few different movies he makes you feel with his emotions studies do and that you feel those emotions if you watch him. It makes you feel like you're going through what they're doing and you can feel it. But that night is what you're talking about tonight's the night we're going to go all the way tonight that these two people couldn't stand each other but yet they ended up together for that night as they say no names no commitments.. and that's what it was about high school kids that didn't like each other. But yet thought each other was hot. So I hope you understand all of it and Kelly you're very analytical I know this because I am I've been told I have an engineer mind because I'm so analytical and I pick things apart just like you are you like me. But that's probably at the time for the video Anna live stage that is like your husband said that wasn't picked out by him which most of his stuff was does everyone has their own thing that they want to wear but for the video it's what the producers wanted. But he does wear a lot of that in his or did where a lot of the Ruffles in his concerts. Why nobody knows you'd have to find a magazine that would sit down and talk to him and break it all down order to find out those answers. That was just his thing just like Robert Plant with Led Zeppelin his shirt was always unbuttoned Jimmy Page you know sometimes he wore these certain type O scarce or whatever Rhonda neck and dressed up sometimes fashionably. It's their own gig or what they want to be. But he doesn't look like that no more he's actually lost cuz she was pushing like 350 almost 400 lbs and he's down to I think under 200 pounds. Short hair of course most people they used to have a long. And I'll tell you you want to talk about a fun song I was in Colorado my sister was working at a Pizza Hut when my parents divorced my dad bought a place in Colorado so we were out there and Pizza Hut. This was a popular song that was around at that time and that would have been 1979. Cuz I came back in 80. But anyways the song came on and one of my friends that was with us and a buddy and his girlfriend. and but we didn't know till afterwards that even Bob Seger was there after they did a concert. Anyways that song came on and I started getting down with it and you're not doing the moves and stuff and with my friend she was sitting there and I stood up and I was acting it out and pointing to her on some things and then all of a sudden what it was her part to come up she stood up real quick and I blew my mind I didn't expect her to do it and she started in And got up and started doing her thing. Being nervous at first never done it before but in school I didn't have a hard time doing things like that because people know me. So anyways the more we got into it it's like everyone disappeared from the restaurant and it was just her and I. And we ended up together for a little bit Trisha after the kissing area but then by the time we got done I guess she put everything out of her mind to because people were whistling clapping standing up and clapping and then all of a sudden this gentleman walks up to shake our hands and lo and behold you wouldn't believe who it was. Images Bob Seger. he says he's never ever seen anyone do a performance like that before especially not being in the industry of Rock. He said even musician he's never seen goes like that before. he said if he had room and if he could do some songs he would love us to be able to perform for him. and if I ran into him again today I'll bet you he's still remember it. I was a compliment like that from Bob Seger as her and I went back and sat with him in a group for a little bit for about 45 minutes talked. That was in Salida Colorado. what a compliment find major star such as him. and if I can find a friend or a girlfriend but my type of free spirit and stuff like that I would love to do it all over again.. Kelly you need to do this one time with your husband out somewhere. Believe me you'd really enjoy it and not just karaoke it's got to be like more of a surprise.
In my opinion, the person the phone is talking about young people who give up on relationships at the first sign of adversity. It's easy to stay with someone if everything is going great all the time but that is just not realistic. I have never met anyone who is happy all the time. People have bad days and if you're in what you would call a "committed" relationship then working through the bad days are what makes the two people in the relationship "committed". Committed to going through life with the ups and downs together. Obviously, an abusive relationship should end as quickly as possible, no one should put up with that in their life. But there is a big difference in an abusive partner and someone having a bad day with some cross words being said and retracted. The three strikes thing is pretty funny. I would love to hear the rules for these three strikes. Do they have a grace period? If Rich stubs his toe on the way to the bathroom and slams the door is that strike one, does he need counseling? If so does he only have two strikes for the rest of your lives together or does he get that back after a week, month, year of not getting any more strikes? Like I said at the beginning this is just my opinion and everyone knows that opinions are like assholes, everybody has one and they all stink. Great video.
Pretty clear that, that is the intent and it went right over both their heads. Sometimes it is a stupid idea to stay together, but a lot of people break up just because it isn't like it used to be. Meaning the hot and exciting "puppy love" part has worn off, and now they actually have to deal with a real person, instead of all the chemicals in their brain that made that person seem so perfect, wonderful and amazing. "Oh, you've changed!" No, you just aren't high on Oxytocin, Dopamine and Norepinephrine anymore. Or they discover that living with someone means putting up with their farts along with their kisses, and because farts didn't factor into their silly perfect idea of romance... they bail.
Nothing went over our heads. It’s about knowing the lines. The deal breakers. It’s Understanding what is not a good match. Of course there is diversity. Of course we are saying not to give up early in because of trivial bs. The read post is a great rational for staying in a relationship that is not a good match at all, where there are deal breakers and cruelty that carry on. If we did any of those things mentioned to each other , there would be critical discussions right there on the spot. We are proof that a healthy and thriving relationship can build without the nastiness that is suggested as “common” and expected. That’s our point as well. If I yell at Kel, that would be strike one. If she yelled at me, that’s strike one. We know that. If that ever happens, it a full stop with a discussion right there. We hear from hundreds of people that want out of there relationships but don’t know how to leave. They feel guilty about not ‘allowing’ the other’s behavior to continue because now relationship is perfect’. That code for ‘abuse survivor’. Sorry, we are not buying into this anymore. Of course there will be moments. It’s not the moment that matters. It’s how it’s processed and resolved that matters.
Thanks CLYDE for the thoughtful post. Please read above. A strike is a critical moment. A discussion occurs right then and there...on the spot. We’ve had a few over the years. It’s about calling it right there, discussing it and resolving it with necessary agreements. It is the most mature and sensible relationship we can imagine. It takes a sharp eye and swift action. That’s the key. Nothing gets by. No one ‘takes one for the team’. It’s all in the open. Everything. No matter what. We then perform at the highest level imaginable for each other from the moment our eyes open for the day.
My first Meat Loaf experience was from his role in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show" Michael Lee Aday (born Marvin Lee Aday, September 27, 1947), better known as Meat Loaf, is an American singer and actor. ...He was in over 50 shows and theater performances. Still living but retired. Great song writer and actor
I've always liked Meat Loaf, best tune is the epic Bat Out Of Hell. Aspen Miller was my favourite co-singer, had a huge crush on her, although she was only with Meat Loaf for one tour between 2006-2007.
Thank you for your supportive an insightful discussion on being clear and assertive about relationship boundaries and knowing when to let go, or hold on. That’s a very good conversation. Thank you, KNR.
The shirt, the style, the composition, it's rock opera.
The whole album is a rock opera.
Absolutely right.
Jim Steinman, the writer/composer, is famous for the operatic nature of all of his sons, even those by Bonnie Tyler.
I think we can Thank The Who For making the first rock opera Tommy
Wasn't it.
Carmen Jones kind of. Opera is a strong word for it. More like theater than opera, I think Rock Opera just sounds better as a genre piece
What I like about it is is a very well crafted story. It's almost a complete musical in one song.
He had his own sex appeal...heavier or not
Definitely he was into musical theater. His music was about the story and how it was presented.
Loafs songs are written by Jim Steinem. Bat out of hell and back into hell are musicals.they tell complete stories of the life of Jim's protagonist. They must be viewed as a whole complitation.not just individual works.
Jim Steinman.
Jim also wrote Total Eclipse Of The Heart by Bonnie Tyler.
He also wrote Air Supply's Making Love Out of Nothing at All. Jim is the real genius.
Loaf without Steinman is just ground beef.
Who doesn't love this song? Heard this when it came out and I still know all the words
It's Meatloaf's best song, and has a couple of the best notes from a female singer ever. jmo, of course.
You need to give Jim Steinman credit for writing these songs
You saved me typing 😁👍
Yeah. John Rzeznik was 11 or 12 when this was released. Probably not his composition.
Steinman ripped him off !! He made nothing from these songs, just a commission
@@johnmcavinue4957 Who wrote the songs, Meatloaf was the performer so got paid a performance fee
Love and Death and an American Guitar is brilliant.
Meatloaf sang to invoke emotion in the listener. A rare talent. That's what I love about him
Ellen Foley was the singer on the album.
Karla Devito was in the video lip singing. Karla was a singer / actress who is married to actor Robby Benson.
Meatloaf had his roots based in theater. He brought that to his music.
Bingo!
Yes, perhaps a viewing of Rocky Horror Picture Show would help to understand Meatloaf and his persona a bit better. He's a performance singer.
He brought that to Jim Steinman’s music
Meatloaf is a Broadway type of performer who went rock and succeeded at it. He will always be a musical singer
My wife said it best. I'm with you because i WANT to be. Not because i NEED to be. Over 10 years strong.💖
True. _Need_ can make you feel trapped, but _want_ means it's a choice.
I never knew Karla Devito was lip syncing this video. I think her facial expressions, make up, and body language were absolutely perfect for the song.
Meatloaf does everything in a dramatic operatic manner. His songs are presented as a rock opera. He was nicknamed Meatloaf by his football coach.
armadillotoe I believe that the studio female singer and the touring singer were different but not sure if it was in the first or second bat album
ecptz2002 Ellen Foley on the recording. She was the blonde short hair defense attorney in the first season of night court!!
Karla sang this live. I personally know her voice.
These two are as amusing as a kick in the crotch.
Meatloaf was not a song writer. Jim Steinman wrote just about everything he sang. Steinman is an incredible song writer. You know many of the songs he wrote besides the ones by Meatloaf, such as Air Supply, Bonnie Tyler, and many others.
Am I the only one to immedeatly think of "Married with children", that series with Al and Peggy Bundy?
absolutely love you guys hope for all the best 💕
You are wonderfully kind! Thank you Rupan. Much love.
Kel N’ Rich 💕
There's only one person to play Meatloaf in his bio-pic
Jack Black
oh yes~+
There's already been one.
My thoughts exactly They should get on a stage together
W. Earl Brown is fantastic in the biopic from 2000
Barbara Chieppo Technically they have
It's the magical combination of his voice and Jim Steinman's storytelling in his compositions. Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad, Bat Out Of Hell, I'm Gonna Love Her For Both Of Us and so many more. Meatloaf spoke for every fat kid who never got the girl in real life. I was that kid, and I still am.
My absolute favorite song is 2 outta 3 ain't bad.
Omg the psychological dynamics of this reaction is amazing.
Rich...you are such a good human...and you lucked into Kel which is so awsome..karma man :) I love what you do so keep it up..god bless :)
This brings back memories. With a bunch of friends together around a fire. Guys singing Meat's lyrics and the girls are singing hers.
You are spot on that writing is dribble. A committed relationship is about working together for a common goal. Taking on the world as equals helping each other along the way, loving each other.
I love Meatloaf because he always puts so much emotion in his singing.
The shirt, the style, the composition, it's rock opera.
Jim Steinman, who wrote the song, stated that he wanted to write "the ultimate car/sex song in which everything goes horribly wrong in the end."
How meatloaf got his name:
1. When referring to a rookie player, who is has more physical talent than intellectual smarts, the veteran teammates may refer to him as meat. His coach named him meat because of his weight. The nickname stick with him.
What I like about Meatloaf:
Great post! To add to the first bit about getting the name Meatloaf, his given name is Michael Lee, or ML, which obviously lends itself to Meat Loaf.
@@robert___t Thanks Robert____T.
True story: used to love this song as a kid for the sports references, then puberty hit and I liked it even more...😂😂😂
you guys are so awesome! thank you for the tune!
Life long relationships are about mutual respect and support. Of equal importance is the willingness to compromise when it's most difficult.
Quite simply one of the greatest songs of my lifetime performed by one of the greatest performers ever. RIP Meatloaf you will be missed
There are flaws and there are deal breakers. We are talking about repetitive deal breakers. Period.
Meatloaf is a theatrical musician who can tell a great story in a song . Always liked him .
Ellen Foley....backup singer.....loved her in Hair. She was also defense attorney Billie Young on Night Court.
I bought her album...
It was long ago and so far away. Brings back fond memories from days gone by.
Wha ha! I really loved the expressions on your wife's face priceless! No words needed! Nice vid guys!
Shalom! I am a black Israeli, I am 52. I been listening to Meatloaf since I was a teenager. Toda raba for your reaction to Meatloaf!!!!!!
What I like about Meatloaf is his manic energy and interesting songwriting. He was a different kind of rockstar for that era.
Theatrical Rock-n-roll, Broadway style.
He didn't write any songs. He sang songs.
He did the job that was given to him absolutely perfectly. Different kind of rockstar indeed.
@@floorticket Anybody that knows anything about Meatloaf knows that. Jim Steinman teamed up with Meatloaf often and he wrote most of his songs for him, like Bernie Taupin and Elton John.
@@ffjsb Not quite the same, as Bernie didn't write both lyrics and words
Hi there I remember this when it first aired in Scotland in 1979 0n a music station called The Old Grey Whistle Test. Our reactions were the same as Kel's. But like Rich, Meatloaf was my era THANK GOD. Great reactions ✌✌
She sings with incredible level of power.
Meatloaf gave you your money’s worth music...he had stories and drama but the music he made never failed
It’s the old grey whistle test version properly the best live performance
He had on the tux shirt because they just went to prom and went parking and he was trying to get in her pants....thats the basis of the whole song
Carla DeVito could sing herself, she performed live on tour with Meatloaf! 👍🏻
& the last line is my favourite, "so now I'm praying for the end of time, so I csn end my time WITH you, (because he does love her)
why bring in his weight as a "character"....the bat out of hell album is a classic.
Truly one of the top moments in rock history. Just epic!
meat loaf is my all time fav. not only because of his talent and presence. but because cause i can see so much of myself in his story. like meat i grew up in a bad abusive home. i was bullied and made fun of i was a bigger kid and never fit in. and like meat my only outlet was music when you are up on stage performing you can channel all that negativity into something awesome and creative.
Funny how Rich at first was all in on what he read about commitment but then backed off and acted like he agreed with Kel.
Agreed!
Agreed, I would classify this theatrical rock
Listened to Meatloaf all through the 80’s and this song was played at my wedding reception The marriage is over but the song is still in my life 🤣
Same thing happened to my cousin, this song is a curse if it plays at your reception
BEST. MUSIC. VIDEO. EVER!!! the voice of the girl singer belongs to Ellen Foley, who played the 1st defense attorney for the 1st season of the tv show series ''night court''. Although Karla DeVito (who toured with Meat Loaf in support of the album) is featured in the music video, DeVito is lip synching to Foley's vocals.
I LOL'd so hard at Kel's, “Is he supposed to look like a meatloaf?”
Hahahaha yeah that was so bizarre
Classic.
From what he read on the phone I saw it as this:
Real love isn't just the fun, happy, and sexy times that new couples have with one another.
I remember listening to this in the late 70's on 8-Track.
don't worry about it
I have loved that performance since I was closer to 17, now I am closer to 70. There was a time when it was on almost every station near New York City. What makes watching it even better is Kel's reaction and your discussions. Rest in Peace "Meatloaf."
I didn't even realize this was 44 min! wow. You two are AWESOME!
Meatloaf is a rock broadway play band. Remember, his first brush with anything was in the movie “ the Rocky Horror Picture Show “. He was into acting before music, so he combined them since he fell in love with acting.
I always thought of the outfits, in relation to the lyrics, as teens on prom night.
I'm not American, but I'm pretty sure wearing a bra would count as appropriate attire for prom night
@@olabergvall3154 it is common in America to change out of “dress clothes “ Once a ceremony is over and get party comfortable.

My first Meat Loaf experience was from his role in "The Rocky Horror Picture Show"
Michael Lee Aday (born Marvin Lee Aday, September 27, 1947), better known as Meat Loaf, is an American singer and actor.
...He was in over 50 shows and theater performances.
