Rich, so excellent you left Kel to herself during A Lerxst in Wonderland. You could see her being moved higher and higher, smiling more and more. The lady gets it. Great show, both of you.
Fucking awesome. I was on the Rush in Rio concert, unforgettable. There’s a great Rush song that doesn’t get enough love, called Nobody’s Hero. You won’t see many people requesting it, but it’s beautiful.
Yeah, Nobody's Hero is really underrated and has some really good lyrics.
rjacamargo I love Rush but I hate Nobody’s Hero! Worst song on Counterparts. Always interesting when people have an opposite reaction to me though.😊
rjacamargo oh, if you’re after a reaction to Nobody’s Hero do a YT search for “Enoma Rush.” They have probably the most comprehensive (still growing) and in-depth list of Rush song reactions on the web. Nobody’s Hero is there. I’ve not watched that one yet because I don’t like the song. But I still might watch it at some point.
Nobody's Hero is awesome, I was bummed they didnt play it their last 4 tours I saw them.
Love the Rio live version. The way Alex rips into the solo....chills.
2112 is a must, eventually
yes and By-Tor & The Snow Dog
Not to mention other bands like Led Zeppelin, Pink FLoyd, Yes, Genesis, the Who and ELP.
And Hemispheres for sure!
Rush doesn't just write and play songs, they take you on a musical journey. I'm a veteran of 18 Rush concerts on 16 tours. I first discovered Rush on my 15th birthday in 1977, the first time I ever listened to "2112". I was hooked immediately, and have been one of those die-hard Rush fanatics ever since! \m/ \m/
My favourite guitar solo ever.........
Rush is my all-time favorite!!!! Love you guys!!!
From Texas, you two are a Beautiful couple. Keep the love alive. God Bless
Rich, my older brother also introduced me to all this great music. Rush, Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd, Blue Oyster Cult...
I've been listening to this for nearly 40 years. Blows my mind!
8:32 is the start of some of the most haunting guitar lines ever recorded. Alex Lifeson is a genius! What a band Rush was. All virtuoso musicians.
Villa Strangiato starts like a flamenco influenced piece.
i wish more people knew about this song. I was fortunate to have a dad with decent taste who was in his prime when this type of music was being made.
Tulsa Oklahoma here , y'all are such a Cool Couple ! God bless
You're guys are real music connoisseurs, well done.
Rush - Freewill awesome song
I saw Rush twice, and they always kill it! They kill it dead!! D-E-E-D deed!
One of the most entertaining songs to jam with. Pure happiness :)
I used to fall asleep to La Villa Strangiato on my Walkman...lol
My first concert was "Hemispheres" in Rochester N.Y.!! I love Kels reaction to Xanadu, and can't wait for this...Organic! and my Mom is a Canadian and family from Kingston, Toronto, Vancouver and N.B. Love you guys, eh! And Love Conquers All, for sure! ✌💜😎
GREAT song. keep it up ….…………………………….
Slapping the bass
I my opinion, the greatest band of all time! No other band has a more diverse musical Library than RUSH!
This guitar riff puts me on another level.
I have been a fan since 2112 and we drove from Michigan for my first show, A Farewell to Kings tour in Toronto in 77 and have been a fan ever since seeing them only 5 more times... Strangiato is a great song as most are, but need to let her listen to A Farewell to Kings, 2112 and many others....
Agree "NOBODY'S HERO" beautiful song!!! A Must!!!
Looking Beautiful as always Kel
Rich, imagine that when you made this video, you were drumming to the tune, and in less than a year Neil you be gone. Heavy heart sadness typing this and it really does hurt big time especially since I am from the hometown, and Rush has been part of my growing up since the early 70s.
Kel is a real honey. Good job Rich. You two are great couple. Love your vids. Lucky guy!
Greatest Rock Band EVER
I'm a total progressive rock freek, this 3 man band is in my heart, this song is my favorite
RUSH is hands down the single greatest three piece rock band who has three of the greatest musicians and has some of the greatest compositions, lyrics and live performances of any band, or genre three peice or other.
All the lp's from first to last, are a vision for life.
Neil studied with Freddie Gruber for over a year and changed from the matched drum stick grip to the traditional drum stick grip before recording "Test For Echo" in 1996. (I believe this is correct. Shortly after this, his daughter was killed in a car accident, and he left the drums for several years, until the release of "Vapor Trails" in 2002.)
An interesting side note about his playing with Alex and Geddy after studying with Freddie Gruber for a year: When they started to record "Test For Echo," Geddy and Alex didn't really notice a difference. Neil thought that was a great compliment -- it's still me, but better & different.
RIP, Neil. You were my inspiration to start playing the drums. I'm still trying to learn your songs after all of these years because I basically suck. Oh, well. Never give up; never surrender!
This is a masterclass though!!! ❤️🤘🏼🤘🏼🤘🏼
I like listening to music with you guys, thanks for your channel
My favorite song of all time. Never thought it would be a 9 minute rock jazz prog instrumental ha ha.
It is very enjoyable to see people experience for the first time, the music that shaped my youth 40 years ago.
The complexity of rhythm structures. Rush, Pink Floyd,ELO, Saga are awesome bands to me.
Introducing it is beautiful. To someone that has no clue. Emotions!!! Yeah
Did you know that in an interview with Eddie Van Halen, he was asked what it's like to be the greatest guitarist in the world, he said "I don't know, you would have to ask Alex Lifeson"!
These are three baaad dudes right here...best three-piece in the history of music.
That laugh on the cartoon chase music part was.. perfect.
Greatest Canadian Band Ever
The greatest guitar solo ever!
Kel is GORGEOUS
Great song
Ladies and gentleman Rich Gafter on the air drums, lol Yup i think many of us can relate . This is incredible, nobody does this , thanks Rush for all there awesome music.
Please do the live version of this!
This song is so awesome!
There's definitely a reason why they called this 'an exercise in self-indulgence.' The purposefully set out to write an incredibly complex piece of music based on a crazy dream that Alex Lifeson had.😆
If it hasn’t already been mentioned, part of this song was taken from Powerhouse by Raymond Scott. It’s on UA-cam so check it out.
Do you mean that Rush copied from another person's song?
@@ItsLoriK I read a while back that funds were paid for the use.
Every time I see a Rube Goldberg machine, I can't help but to hear _Powerhouse_ in my mind. Even _Breakfast Machine_ (from _Pee Wee's Big Adventure)_ is unable to supplant it.
9:55 yeah, she gets it. WE HAVE ASSUMED CONTROL.
Attention all viewers of the UA-cam federation
I'd say there's a difference between experiencing this music young vs. older. Kinda like Christmas as a kid vs. now. When you listen to this now like you did as kid vs. an adult listening to it for the 1st time, not the same experience. These guys are truly genius its something you can't explain in words.
She is feeling the music deeply.
Will miss RUSH. We were filmed briefly a few times on their Clock Work Angel's DVD, live in Dallas. Greatest 3 piece rock band ever.
_"Greatest 3 piece rock band ever."_
Which is not a small amount of praise, considering that there are some really great trios. Of course, there are those (such as Primus) who probably wouldn't be the musicians they are if not for the influence of Rush, so it all circles back around. :D
This is, (self admitted) the most difficult song they ever wrote and played. Because of all of the time changes ,in this long song, each member would ,at different moments, get lost as to what part of the song they were in.
They tried for an entire month to record it in one sitting... Eventually, they gave up. They recorded it in 3 parts. Neil Peart is quoted saying that they had written a piece that was beyond their musical talent, at the time. By the time the tour came, they practiced it so much, that they could then play it live...cheers
So damn good!
Love the 7/8 time break in the middle.
Kel, you nailed it; watch the live version from around 1978 and you'll see Alex looking at Geddy with a smirk implying it's pretty impressive to be able to write and play this very complicated music.
Think she’s ready for that shirt. What a great piece of music that inspired me from childhood.
That's why I like Prog Rock so much.
Yes. RUSH!!!!!!
that live album was actually called ..Exit Stage Left..1980.
the other one they did in about 1975. ,was All the Worlds a Stage.....
A rush master piece
Triumph, "follow your heart"!
Kel said she was into techno. I was into that in the late 90s especially. Did you like Orbital? I love them.
Alex is a man of few words, his song that tells a story about a dream. His other great contribution of words was the acceptance speech to the Rock & Roll Hall of fame;);o
Rock and roll hall of fame showed how prolific. Plus the drummer wrote all the lyrics. Peart is a virtuoso
Y’all are too cute! I’m never not in awe of RUSH. Thanks for sharing.
'Witch Hunt' from 'Moving Pictures'.
La vilastagisto is italian and basically the stt Ange house is about night mares Alex had in italy while staying at a home like castle from way back about 490 year old
Yes Rush! The circle is complete. You have hit on all my favorite bands. But really, I love all your reactions and every band, every song. Thank you!!
RUSH!!!
Wish you guys the best and thanx for playing rush saw these guys on concert three times they were the best live band I have ever seen
RUSH is my favorite. Something you might enjoy is Buckethead, the song is Soothsayer...if you can pull the video off UA-cam, find the version...Live from the Gothic.... truly an amazing performance
She would love Ghost of a Chance,,,,a love song
ROCKY Rush RIVERA I love that song. Do you know if there’s any reaction to it somewhere?
A great song from an underrated album, RTB. ❤️
Love that song!
yes definitely. mabye " the pass" also.
Rich, sorry but you distracted from the pure genius of Rush on this song with all your drumming and guitar. Thanks for doing this song and please keep doing great bands like this.
My all time favorite band!. Seen them in 1979 Pink Pop festival in Holland. Incredible instrumental. RIP Neal Peart he was such a great drummer and person.
Great Neil Peart (RiP)
The subtitle for this song is "An Exercise in Self Indulgence".
He studied with Freddy Gruber!!! Totally reinvented himself!
Got a feeling I know what the off camera evening is shaping up to be... [smile]
Love a laugh of enjoyment. I do it often my self
YYZ, Bravado, Spirit obviously haha my fav is Subdivisions just purely bc I can relate to it.. there back catalogue is huge!!! Many many great songs! Oh btw if you haven't seen Rush in Rio check out YYz on that! Then go buy the DVD I highly recommend!!!!
Loved Kel's reaction to an awesome band and an outstanding song. I grew up in Toronto and first heard Rush play in high schools and in local bars before they made it big. A complete privilege and wonderful time to grow up. So Kel's reaction takes me back home, as I live in Romania now. Thanks to you both for the memories!
CD?!! I listened to all the ones you're talking about on ALBUM!!! Original vinyl!! Man I wish I still had those. Love you guys!!!
listen to Queen Live Killer tour- 1974 Brighton Rock- awesome control- especially if you can also hear Freddie's Call to Prayer
I have always thought Alex Lifeson is incredibly underrated as a guitarist. He can play pretty much anything and makes it look effortless. Maybe just the fan in me, but always thought that. Great reaction
you may think that, but the rest of the world including critics don't think he is underrated, in fact most people will praise just how good he is.
Agreed
One of the best for sure! Definitely overshadowed by the greatest bassist and drummer who ever walked the earth.
Nope, he's seriously underrated.
Only underrated by people that are NOT Rush fans. We all know how awesome he is.
Turn the VOLUME UP!!!!
Woah Rush rule's they were my first concert when I was 4. Went and saw them about 7 more times after that blew me away each time 3 guys making beautiful music
Amazing!!
When Kel bursts out in laughter at 10:47, are my favorite parts of these vids. Kel appreciates the music we love so much and it really is moving to experience it for her first time hearing it. Kel-Rich.....WE WANT MORE MORE MORE !!!!
You two make me cry all the time. Being able to share music that Kel has never heard, how awesome is that? Born in 50’s I saw rock across the board. I wouldn’t trade my birthday with anyone. You’re lucky Kel, got this great guy holding your hand and introducing you to the greats. ❤️U2 ~ Peace ✌️
Thank you! Excellent choice!
The only thing you can say is, “behold the power of the 3”!! The 3 Kings.....Dirk, Lerxst & Pratt. 🤘❤️🤘
The urge to air drum is strong in this one. lol
Wonderful choice to introduce Rush ! 22 albums ,41 yrs. Of material , concept albums and greatest lyrics in the genre ! Only hastens my anticipation to watch your reactions to an epic piece of music by Rush also Xanadu .whimsical mysterious , and creative! Working man is more old school hard rock but a good intro to Geddy !
When you realize this is about nightmares that Alex was having, it takes on a whole new meaning
From SongFacts: Despite being an instrumental, the song tells a complete story, complete with plot and characters. It's based on some nightmares Alex Lifeson experienced.
Divided into 12 segments, as follows:
I-- Buenos Nochas, Mein Froinds!
II-- To Sleep, Perchance To Dream
III-- Strangiato Theme
IV-- A Lerxst in Wonderland
V-- Monsters!
VI-- The Ghost of the Aragon
VII-- Danforth and Pape
VIII-- The Waltz of the Shreves
IX-- Never Turn Your Back on a Monster!
X-- Monsters! (Reprise)
XI- Strangiato Theme (Reprise)
XII-- A Farewell To Things.
Villa Strangiato is a real place in Italy. It was the home of the late Barone (Baron) Strangiato, an Italian nobleman
Sure, the name Strangiato sounds italian to me.
Amen brojan
RUSH RULEZ
Picked my Favorite band. And one of my favorite songs by Rush. Keep Rocking, definitely more Rush🤟
Y'all should do "Vital Signs"
My first Rush was La Villa Strangiatto, and I was hooked for life! I love how you guys react, you’re a bright ray of light! Much love and Prog Rock! 🤘🏼🤘🏼🎸🎸
