Funny that you should say it's like a theater performance. That's exactly what is is, but back in the 1970s we called it "Rock Opera". That is, they sing and act a story out. Both of these singers are accomplished actors and that's precisely what they do during this performance. Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody" is another example of Rock Opera.
One of the greatest Rock Opera singers. His concerts were full blown Operas with the story running all the way through the concert with the songs and change of sets..It was glorious fun.
Meatloaf was actually an ACTOR as well as a singer. Some of his roles included Eddie in the Rocky Horror Picture Show, Leonard in BloodRayne (based of a video game), Robert 'Bob' Paulson in Fight Club, he was in Wayne's World, Tenacious D And The Pick Of Destiny, and Black Dog where he played Red. He's been in quite a few.
"Theatrical." Yes, Meatloaf was a theater actor. He appeared in both the stage version and the movie version of The Rocky Horror Picture Show. More recently, he played "Robert Paulson" in "Fight Club."
The RHPS, to which a line was added to a particular scene - thanks to (actual) word-of-mouth in those pre-internet days by various in-theatre cosplay performers across the country, at least - “Meatloaf for dinner *again*?!”
🎹 💯🤯 Meatloaf IS rock opera‼🔥🤟 🎵 "Glowing like the metal on the edge of a knife!" 🎶 Remember: "they were barely 17 & they were barely dressed"! Lol! This song is such a fun trip!
10:29 - Meat's sass at "I'll give you an answer in the morning, in the morning. I'LL TELL YOU IN THE MORNING!!" when he turns and strides off with those wild eyes has me dying every time! 😂 "Bat Out Of Hell", "Two Out Of Three Ain't Bad", "For Crying Out Loud" and "Objects in the Rearview Mirror" are the next Big Four tracks to check out by Meat Loaf - all the same storytelling style and written by the same composer, Jim Steinman.
Best bit "Swearing to my God and on my mother's grave that I would love you 'til the end of time" Next breath "So now I'm praying for the END of time to hurry up and arrive" 😂😂😂😂😂
I had this album in the 70's, and got to see them live. DAMN, thats when live music was real. Meat loaf was about vocals, the band was perfect and what theatrics!! This brought back so many memories, thank you for the reaction.
I burst out laughing when you stopped tape, looked at the camera and said "They was fuc kin in the car. that's what this is about." Priceless! Peace my fellow rocker on your musical path.'
Jamming in my dinning room to this album on 8-track. Had my mom having to explain the baseball part to her 8 year old son, let's all take a moment and appologize to our parents for the things they suffered for us
One of my sons asked me what the meaning of the ZZ TOP song, "Pearl Necklace," was because he was confused why they would sing about a piece of jewelry. I told him that when he was old enough for me to explain it, he'd probably already know. 😊
First "promotional videos" were the Beatles' Paperback Writer and Rain. 1966 ish. They got the idea from Elvis sending his pink Cadillac on tour instead of himself. So they sent videos to TV shows that wanted them to perform.
Oh this one is fun! It’s a whole story.....let’s go ! Watch the Rocky Horror picture show, Meatloaf is in it, lots of faces you might recognize. It’s a musical...so yeah I’m a music nerd. 🤘😎❤️🎼
I had the incredible luck to see his concert live sitting on the speaker at the side of the stage. It was JUST like this (only louder!). He also sang IT'S ALL COMING BACK TO ME NOW. Anyone who can sing the same song as Celine Dion and do it justice is pure talent!
@@mom23mangos34 Meat Loaf didn't want to do ITS ALL COMING BACK TO ME right after this one because he felt it was a duet also. So Jim gave it to Celine which upset Meat and made him have to do a cover.
I love how he swears he'll love her til the end of time, then is praying for the end of time. This song was genius, and Meatloaf was a helluva performer! My parents would sing this together and it's one of my favorite memories!
A cautionary tale of young love. I remember my mother watching this video and applauding at the end. Marry in haste, repent in leisure she said. The man is teaching an important lesson.
OMG!!!! I swear I JUST looked like a couple of days ago to see if this one was let out of "YT jail" yet and I didn't see it!!!! Then somehow it literally pops up and starts playing at the end of a different reaction of yours that I was watching!!!! AND I have "auto play" turned OFF!!! I'm glad whatever forces were involved though because this was hilarious!!! Great review fam 💯🔥💯😂😂😂 💞
Meatloaf has one of the best rock voices of all time. Unfortunately the woman ( who’s name escapes me right now) needs to be acknowledged as well. She kills it !
In the video it's Carla DeVito lip syncing to Ellen Foley's studio track. Ellen was unavailable to tour due to her contractual obligation to the TV show Night Court. Carla sang the part on tour though... and killed it. Not that lip syncing a video is bad, almost everyone does it because actually singing that much across that many takes would thrash your voice
You could call this a rock opera. This is a great warning against teen sex. Back in the late '70s I was a regular at the midnight screenings of Rocky Horror, which had Meatloaf as an actor. Each week they played this and the Bat Out of Hell videos before the movie. Great memories.
R I P Meatloaf 1-20-2022 now him and his co song writer and friend Jim Steinman can make music again together in that big music venue in the sky you both will be missed very much by your fans btw this song and album was written and performed in the 1970's when the world was a much different place than now days.
these 2 are in real life husband and wife. This was live. also realize b4 the mid 80's there was no videos. Only live performances taped or a camera in studio.
The entire album is incredible, especially when you listen to it from beginning to end. You need to react (or at least listen) to the Bat out of Hell album.
Meat Loaf appeared in over 50 films and television shows, sometimes as himself or as characters resembling his stage persona. His film roles included Eddie in The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975) and Robert Paulson in Fight Club (1999).
He says I would love you to the end of time. Now I am praying for the end of time. He says. “I will never break my promise or forget my vows”. So they did get married, and there is no divorce. So he’s paying for the end of time.
I’ve watched a bunch of reaction videos tonight to Paradise by the Dashboard Light. Nobody seemed to get the significance of the baseball sequence; they seemed to be watching the action or just talking over the speaking. On the record, of course, all you could hear was the speaking. It was by Phil Rizzuto, an All Star player for the NY Yankees. He won seven World Series. After retiring from baseball, Rizzuto famously broadcast Yankee games on radio and television for the next 40 years. His popular catchphrase was "Holy cow." In the song, Meat Loaf says, “We’re going to all the way tonight tonight, we’re going to go all the way tonight.” At least in the 50s, a guy tried to get to first base (kissing), then second base (boobs), then third base (fingering), and then “go all the way” home. Get it? RIP Marvin Lee Aday.
Just found your channel tonight, been debating if I would subscribe or not after watching a few of your videos... This one made me push that subscribe button, you reactions were fantastic! Heard and seen this video so many times, it was so fun watching someone see it for the very first time! Rest in peace Meatloaf and John Steinman!
The soundtrack for this video is from the actual album where the female vocals was by Ellen Foley. The visuals are from a live stage show where the female vocalist was Carla DeVito. Not exactly lip syncing since they were actually singing on stage, but the two were combined for this video.
Somewhere there us a video of Meatloaf singing the National Anthym at a sporting event. This shows you the full voice of him. Right up there with Whitney. Yes I said that!
Phil Rizzuto, who did the baseball voice over, was a famous baseball player and legendary play by play announcer. "Holy cow" was his catchphrase. Supposedly he did not know exactly what this was being used for or it's context and was upset when he found out.
Best reaction to this song EVER. I have loved this song ever since it came out. If you want to hear something really crazy, check out Meatloaf's Wasted Youth. It's all spoken word.
Haha. This is what it was like before birth control became the norm. Guys were expected to step up if they got a girl pregnant and there were tons of shotgun marriages. I know that I was conceived in a car. Luckily my parents grew together in love but a lot of couples lived in regret too.
My then High School girlfriend and I were in my car listening to this IRL. Everything was the same except we didn't get married so didn't have to deal with that. We're still FB friends. His real name was Marvin Lee Aday. He got his nickname (which was legally changed) by his dad when he played football in High School. He has many movie appearances over the years. Including but not limited to "Rocky Horror Picture Show", "Fight Club" and "Wayne's World". Btw they were BOTH regretting their commitment to each other. Sadly, we lost Jim and Meat within a few months of each other 😇😇 This song was written by the late Jim Steinman, he also played keyboard on this song. I wish I could have seen them in concert but sadly it never happened. 🙄 I still have the "Bat out of hell" LP "It was long ago, and it was far away, SO MUCH BETTER THAN IT IS TODAY."
This sums up the battle of the sexes in one ingenious song ... be careful of the situations you get yourselves in kids. Save it for marriage and it will likely turn out a whole lot better!👌
Not only isn't this a "live" recording, but just like in many official videos, what you are hearing is the _studio_ audio (and the singers are lip-syncing to the recording). Also, the woman _seen_ in the video is NOT the woman you _hear_ singing. The female part was recorded by Ellen Foley, but she didn't tour with the group. Instead Karla DeVito would perform at live shows and she is the one seen on the video. Similarly, the woman seen on Meatloaf's "I'd Do Anything For Love (But I Won't Do That)" video is Dana Patrick, but she's lip-syncing to Lorraine Crosby's vocals.
There is an alternate live recording where right at the very end of the song, she snatches off the dress she's wearing and has a whole sexy as hell lingerie out fit own and he ends the song with his jaw dropped and going to her. But it can be difficult to find.

true cindy
Meat Loaf was one of the first to come up with a Rock Opera. His whole show was intertwined like a movie. This was the finale.
I burst out laughing when you stopped tape, looked at the camera and said "They was fuc kin in the car. that's what this is about." Priceless! Peace my fellow rocker on your musical path.'
Truckin Fuckin
"I'll never break my promise or forget my vow...etc.' What a lyric!
No auto tune and raw talent!
4:46 - “So...they were fukkin in the car.” 😂🤣 Subbed.
😂😂😂😂 thanks for the sub fam
Their facial expressions after the baseball scenes are priceless, especially his eyes
Meatloaf was in the original Broadway musical "HAIR " VERY TALENTED!!!

they did this live on stage it was amazing i know i was there
Should be in the hall of fame..... this guy put a show and sung his heart out
I was actually 17 when this came out. This is a cautionary tale for daughters that some teenage boys will say anything to get the poon.
100
Theatrical and musical genius.
Of all the drunk/drug parties (in the 80's) This tune brought out all the drunken singers more than any other!
This song and Bohemian Rhapsody were our drinking songs! We knew all the words.
Lol oh don't count out Journey! Pretty sure it's a crime to NOT sing don't stop believing 🤣✌️
Still worked in the 90's! We screamed this song.
Yes!! I grew up in the '80's and we rocked it every time! 🤣
No joke...
We didn't have music videos back then - this was their live performance
No and no.
This was NOT a live performance. In fact the girl in the video is not the singer in the song. She's acting.
First "promotional videos" were the Beatles' Paperback Writer and Rain. 1966 ish. They got the idea from Elvis sending his pink Cadillac on tour instead of himself. So they sent videos to TV shows that wanted them to perform.

Oh Meatloaf. One of the best. RIP. What an artist. Jim Steinman wrote all this. He’s gone too. Doing rock opera in heaven with Meat.
Oh this one is fun! It’s a whole story.....let’s go ! Watch the Rocky Horror picture show, Meatloaf is in it, lots of faces you might recognize.

This is is one best live performances ever
Except that it isn't the live audio we're hearing in this video.
its not live per se it was recorded in studio
That comment “they were fucking in the car” is the most spot on and honest reaction I’ve heard to this song
😂😂
YOU TOOK THE WORDS RIGHT OUT OF MY MOUTH-MEATLOAF
they're both pretty good actors

Meatloaf opened for the ELO Out of the Blue tour in july of 1978. Awesome show and this is how the Meatloaf performs live.
I always pictured Al and Peggy Bundy from Married With Children were this couple 15 years later.
CLASSIC ROCK AND ROLL WITH A MESSAGE ABOUT THE TRUTH OF LOVE AND WHAT IS NOT LOVE. But connected to the ALBUM that it comes from is MAGIC.
I love her powerful voice.
Brilliant performance... thank you for the reminder.. "It was long ago and it was far away and it's so much better than it is today.."
Great reaction. Love this whole song and video. That was a lot of fun.😀👍❤️✌️🌼

So true.

Brilliant...A great historical piece of American art.
“Where has this song been?”
This song was on every single jukebox in America from around 1977 until the early 90s.
It someone played it every night.
"Two Outta Three Ain't Bad" should be next!
Even though he "folded", he stuck to his vows even though he hated doing it...

He was formerly on Broadway
Carla DeVito the background singer.. No one vocalizes this song with him like her its part of what makes this song a classic
