I’ve been using a Kalamazoo 1X42 for fifteen years and I get my knives stupid sharp. The 1X42 felt belts and leather stropping belt is where the magic happens!!
Lol. This wasn’t so much of a how to. More like a how I. I think this is the fifth “sharpening” video I’ve done so far. Honestly I don’t like to show it because if you aren’t careful. One can quickly ruin a knife. Thank you for watching 😊
Very good. I have many ways to sharpen since I got into knife collecting a couple years back. While my edges are good the paper towel kicks my ass. My very best edges get a few inches then snag.
Ok, im too lazy to see if you answered this in the other sharpening videos. The green compound belt, is that just a regular belt backward with paste on it or a specialized belt?
I was about to buy a Ken Onion worksharp for $120 and the attachment for $70 that changes the belt orientation and has an angle guide. Thats too much fkn money and before you even buy additional belts for it. I'm going to just buy the 1x30 belt sander from Hazard Fraught instead.
@@peterbiltknifeguyhey what angle did u use and why? I love your set up and the jig u made to allow for edge trailing sharpening and stropping... trying to replicate this and just was wondering on your starting angle, thanks and love your vids brother
A shits a giggles question: have you considered stropping with diamond paste? I understand keeping to the KISS rule. Thanks for the entertaining content!
Glad you seem to enjoy sharpening your knives...I much prefer dulling them. Just spent 3 days “In them thar hill’s” beating on a bucket of blades. And being my usual self, I didn’t think of documenting any of it till the last few hour’s. I actually did make a few crappy videos I’ll probably be embarrassed to show. It’s a step in the right direction. Maybe you can teach an old dog new tricks...lol
I couldn’t ask for better weather. Trip was a gear test and tune along with conditioning myself for a big trip in a few week’s. Acclimating to altitude and cold... “embrace the suck” so they say...Playing with blades is always a bonus.

Isn't a 15 degree edge gonna roll like a wood shaving when it gets put under any kind of hard use? Like I understand that degree on a gentleman's folder, but a fixed blade? Never seen it before is all.

This was awesome content, I think you need to do side content on just sharpening. Bravo
Well I do sharpen all the time lol
Looks great going to add that to my personal Christmas list
You get scary sharp results with your sharpening method, right on! 👍Thanks for sharing, take care and Cheers!
Thank you. It works well for me
Nice. I wonder what the San Mai Master hunter would look like with 15 degree bevel. The 15 degree bevel on the 3v version looks huge
It does. It was very thick behind the edge
Excellent! Thank you for showing us pleebs how you get incredible edges on your knives!
It wasn’t informational. Just a demonstration. lol
As one of the dumb dumbs that were asking for the sharpening vids, I do appreciate this 😁
Lol. No. Because the dummies only watch my shorts
What is that attachment you have on the sander table with the purple tape? Is it something you made or something you can buy?
It’s just an angle guide I made.
Always enjoy and sharpening video..
Though I did find your previous video.. with your help.
Thanks Again for the 2nd How To

Nice job on that E4 . I keep one of those on my nightstand , Been sharpening the last two days many blades. Long 50 year obsession for me ! pete
Right on Pete
Thanks, I didn't know you already had sharpening vid's
I'm fairly new here. Thanks again
Lol. Sorry Chris. It’s probably mostly my fault for not organizing my videos so its easy to find

What’s the plastic jig with the purple tape on it ? Would love to know !? Great video
That’s actually some angle iron. The tape is to keep the blades from scratching. I’ll be making a video on it shortly
@@peterbiltknifeguy Looked through your vids but didn't see the jig video. Do you have a link Sir?
What kind of jig are you using for the angle of your blades when you use the belt sander?
It’s just something I made out of angle iron
Do you have a video on how to make your angle guide?
That little sander can work wonders! Happen to have one too. Just need an angle for it.
Yes it does!
@@peterbiltknifeguyhow you make that angle guide?
I used 1/8 inch angle iron and bolted it directly to the platform. Then cut it at an angle. Then I use a digital angle finder to set it

Thanks for the extra sharpening video 😂.
Lol. You’re welcome
you measure the bevel afterwards? ur initial 70 degree against the running soft belt seems reaching an approximate 15 degree
You have that backwards. If anything it increases the edge angle
