Love the video, I am also older, like way older as in 63 years old. I am not nearly as successful as you, time does eventually slow one down. But I am really enjoying XDefiant. The lack of SBMM means I can work to improve again instead of playing the same individuals on the same maps over and over again.
62 myself and I'm hovering around the basement lmao but one thing I have always excelled at is close quarter fights and I love the game for that. The old reflexes aren't what they used to be but I am still enjoying a break from Apex. The eyes can see people in X, not so much in Apex although I have been on there since day 1 and know the maps inside and out.

Fantastic video, but a smile on my face. I’m in a similar boat. Haven’t been able to play Call of Duty since Black Ops 2. I’m so happy XDefiant did away with the safe spaces and cry closets. I’m high on nostalgia with this game.
I love having to ACTUALLY get good in FPS games. With SBMM, getting good doesn't feel like a reward at all. It's like ranked without the ranks and all the rewards, instead you win a few games and get put up against an esports 6-man team on their off-day. It's like he said though, you feel like you can learn things from losing. I remember watching killcams to figure out what went wrong and using copycat to see what guns people were using.
The being shot behind walls reminds me of peer to peer servers on mw2, it's really really bad. That and the spam jumping mid combat is so goofy, they need to add an accuracy penalty to that. With keyboard and mouse I feel like these issues are far worse as well. Agree on the minimap, I think it should just show the entire map so you can see an overview of where the action is. Other than that, I'm thinking as the maps are so small, the snipers should have the option for smaller scopes or even iron sights as a default option. Oh yeah and the hipfire is absolutely awful.
They added all the anti-mnk bs that CoD has for some reason, even though it makes no sense being in a fps period like the cross hair not staying centered.
6:40. Respectfully, there absolutely are issues with hit registration. If you notice getting killed around or through walls, it's server desync which also contributes toward missing hit reg. They go hand in hand. It's literally an issue with the server not displaying the same things on two different end users end devices. Digressing, yes, this game a FCKING blast! I'm a little above average at CoD and have been playing it since CoD3, so to feel the strict SBMM being lifted and being put in a traditional arcade shooter again is such a breath of fresh air. I stopped being able to play CoD with my IRL friends back in BO2 when SBMM started to get tightened up from Acti. My friends aren't as good as me and it makes the experience miserable for them to play with me. I don't think XDEF is perfect by any means, I think there needs to be more goals to work towards - going on a big kill streak seems pointless since I'm not actually earing anything and the challenges don't feel fulfilling to complete since all I'm getting is character skins that I don't particularly care for. As far as the map pool goes, I enjoy it, but I definitely prefer the old school 3 lane system from CoD. Overall, I'd give XDEF a 7-7.5/10. Which is about where I'd put any recent CoD. I don't think there's a clear-cut winner between the matchup of CoD vs XDEF because while they both compete in the same market, they feel entirely different and unique. There are some things that CoD still does better and some things the XDEF does better.
Appreciate the honesty. The truth is, games need casual gamers as they make up a large part of the player base. Hopefully Xdef doesn't stay so sweaty that it pushes away all the casuals and the player base suffers.
The reason people have such an issue with sbmm is because it doesn’t really give you an incentive of getting better most of the time people stay average playing people your skill level. But when you take out the sbmm it gives people a chance to play better people and think of new ways to play and actually get better to try and get closer to the higher scorers than not
@@trinityastial5161 I know. But looking at it from a publisher's point of view, if players get stomped or aren't having fun, they're less likely to stay on the game, which means less money spent on the game. Imo, modern day SBMM is really about money and player retention above all else.

So, I was using the SCAR 20 earlier (forgot the name of the DMR), and I realized the red dot is not centered, yet the gun shoots centered. It's actually offset to the left a tiny bit, and it sways in that general area. I only noticed this because I was using the gun at range and felt like some shots weren't hitting, so I turned on my monitor's dot crosshair. I did some testing in match and in the practice range, and it most definitely causes some issues. The gun always shoots where my crosshair is, but not the red dot. I think this might contribute a bit to the hitreg problem people perceive exists. It's really noticeable at range, but sometimes doesn't matter as much up close.
My dad is in his 50s and not to flame him or put him down but I surpassed his skills by the age of 13, I'm 23 and about to be 24. Granted he mostly plays racing games and he mostly beats me there so I think skill level really depends on what you play the most more than anything else.
I think where you're confusing the hit detection with is the hit registration. The hit detection actually works. It's the hit registration that's pretty screwed up right now. And with Snipers not having any reasonable flinch, it breaks the balancing of the game in half. Too many times I'll unload a whole mag into a person and they still somehow manage to one shot me. It's beyond toxic.
Welp, past 50 here(on PS5) and I can completely hold my own still...surprisingly lol. So nice to not have the rampant cheaters or EOMM as in MW3. i agree with everything you said except hit detection, almost every game multiple times it will make the hit marker sound show the hit marker, yet it says they are still max hp, and my ping is 20 consistently
As a mouse and keyboard player bhopping is fun since it makes shooting more challenging and gives you more skill expression with your movement hopefully the nerfs arent too big 👀
One thing I would like to see is a more comprehensive display of our career stats. Our total amount of kills and deaths…wins and losses, our accuracy, etc…

As someone who is about 20 and never really got into Online FPS’s I can say it’s actually fun to get humbled sometimes because it makes for a great learning curve instead of playing your skill level constantly and never getting any better. My average K/D is around 1 so I am by no means good, or even okay, but I can actually feel that improving in this game rather than staying the same. I have gotten way more addicted to getting dunked on in this game and learning something from it than I ever did to playing COD.

In all fairness, I don't think I've ever been great at shooter games... my reaction time is garbage, and I've always relied on reading people, reading the situation, reading the map, and making predictions to survive and get kills. I've played since Modern Warfare 3 (not MW 2023)... Xdefiant has been a rough start for me, but it's possible that it will be the first game where I maintain a solid, positive KD... and as of right now, I'm also in the middle of a pretty good win streak.

That's not a hit detection issue, it's a server/lag issue. Mainly server tick rate. CoD has had that problem too.

Im also balding and middle aged (46) but luckily i stuck to Quake and Unreal Tournament from my older days and still play them and i can actually hang with all these young boys on Xdefiant. Ive got a 78% win rate and the game is super fun!

I've been absolutely destroying these youngsters, half the enemy team leaves, and rage quits mid match 😂. Work my 12 hour shifts, come home and relax, and jump online for a few hours. This game is awesome 👌.

In all fairness, I don't think I've ever been great at shooter games... my reaction time is garbage, and I've always relied on reading people, reading the situation, reading the map, and making predictions to survive and get kills. I've played since Modern Warfare 3 (not MW 2023)... Xdefiant has been a rough start for me, but it's possible that it will be the first game where I maintain a solid, positive KD... and as of right now, I'm also in the middle of a pretty good win streak.
Watched the first 30 seconds. Stopped the video and was gonna comment about how you shouldn't feel bad for being an older gamer and stuff like that. Then for some reason the video kept playing on it's own. That was hilarious 😂

Lol fantastic work. and, even as a mediocre at best older gamer, the fact of not feeling manipulated by that god-awful engagement optimize matchmaking algorithm is insanely refreshing. I’m actually happy to just settle into mediocrity as far as my performance goes and level up guns.

You got me with the title for a sec. Then it was the black son joke, then you went into to sbmm being for us old people. I was like “oh typical boomer.” But you pulled it back when you started on how we (late 30’s) can shyt on young gamers still after a 9-5. I’m a nurse and will do a 12 hr shift, get some sleep, hop on and still hold my own. This game is a great stress reliever and I’m looking forward to the lobbies not disbanding.
I think console may get more hit reg problems. I play on Xbox x and I’m being killed around corners and do have the issue where my bullets aren’t doing damage, I also get dashboarded after a couple games. The game freezes and I have to restart. Glad this wasn’t another video about how this needs to be a COD clone. I’m enjoying what they have done so far and can’t wait to see what else they bring, and it’s free so it’s whatever.

I'm an older gamer, and I absolutely HATE SBMM. I get placed in lobbies filled with sweats in CoD! I can't stand it, and if I play with friends or my brother, we seem to always get in lobbies filled with teens and twenty somethings, stimming, bunny hopping, and sliding. I miss having a mixture of people worse than me, and better than me, not constant sweats! F*CK SBMM/EOMM

I just found this video when i was thinking if my dad would enjoy XDefiant, he really likes games like the old cod campaigns and multis (even bf4), but since the games are older and the new games and cods are full of complete sweats and terrible mm with a load of a lot of things, i have hope that he is going to like this game.
