    How to reduce that spikes:
    1. Savory breakfast instead of sweet.
    2. 1 tbsp vinegar in water before eating carbs.
    3. Add veggie starter for lunch or dinner.
    4. 10 minutes walk after having heavy carbs.

      Remember, if you don't eat glucose (a.k.a. carbs) at all, you won't get blood glucose spikes.
      Consuming protein will elevate blood glucose, but it will do so at a significantly lower and slower rate/gram.
      Furthermore, your son's liver will produce exactly the right amount of glucose he needs at exactly the right time through a process called *_gluconeogenesis._*
      "Gluco" = glucose
      "neo" = new
      "genesis" = make or create
      So, "make new glucose" is what gluconeogenesis means.
      Your son's liver will take *_PROTEIN_* and convert it to glucose whenever his body needs it.
      So, while "dressing" carbs is good at reducing blood glucose spikes, skipping on the carbs altogether is that much *_better._*
      Look into Dr. Bernstein for videos and literature on Low/No carb eating for T1 diabetes.

      I was diagnosed pre-diabetic on 12hr fast no food. It was worth it for me. Would never have believed that rolled oats 1/2 banana and soaked chia would spike my reading from 5.2 to 10.4😮 without the glucose monitor. 2 bean healthy rusks with coffee spiked my glucose the next morning from 5.6 to 10.8. Was my easy go to b/f😢Changed my breakfast 2 boiled egs 1 tomato and an apple with coffee low 6.7. Just had 3 cracker breads loaded with avo, 8 nuts for fat, 1 x kiwi glass of 6.1 at 35 min later will check in an hour.

      I was diagnosed with pre at 5.6. Rolled oats, chia banana spike my glucose to over 10 I thought this was healthy. Without the monitor I would never have known. Cut out oats now I'm feeling better no brain fog. But everyone is different. Found out that health rusks are just as bad as well as healthy muffins. Spiked my glucose on an empty stomach from 5.4 to over 10 and 11😮. Glad I did it for a month.

      I have a similar story. Everyone in my family developed T2D. I've had signs of insulin resistance, retrospectively, for 30 years (but doctors didn't connect those doors way back then). My fasting glucose is okay. It's not good after meals (testing myself with finger pricks) and my A1C is pre-pre-diabetes. My Dr won't prescribe a CGM so i can get it covered.

    Thanks Jessie. I love your work! I've been using the hacks for about 8 months and absolutely love them. I transitioned from the keto diet, which I was on for 2 years, but my body needed a change. So now I'm eating healthy carbs and using these hacks, and I've lost weight. I have the same high energy I had on keto, but I'm not as restricted. And I now enjoy, on the odd occasion, some fruit or even ice cream as a dessert. I'm a coach, and recommending these hacks to many of my clients experiencing many of these symptoms. I'm just about to turn 40, and I have more energy now than I did at 30, contributing to many changes I've made over the years, but the nutrition part has been massive, and that's been about a 3-year transition.

We've always learned towards savory breakfasts and now know why they work so well. We've changed to eating veggies first, then protein, then carbs. You are so right, you can still eat what you eat but just change the order and we can tell the difference, no glucose spike! Eat sweets as dessert, not a snack! Hi, I’m 22 and a huge fan from Mongolia. Thank you so much for everything you are doing for us, and understanding the correlation of glucose with not only weight but also mood and fatigue was really the missing piece of my health routine. I would really love it if you talk about the brain fog thing more. Because I heard your story with depersonalization and how understanding glucose was the key to solve it. For me, I have also been suffering from depersonalization for the past 2 years, and after listening to your interview in DOAC, I went for a month of zero sugar and starchy foods which really elevated my symptoms. However, I’d really love it if you talk deeply into it. Thank you so much!

      @foghather 7 місяців тому

      Je ne veux pas paraître impoli, mais ce n'est pas une perte de graisse corporelle. Pour perdre un kilo de graisse, il faut économiser 7000 kcal. 5 Kg nécessitent donc 35000 kcal d'économie. Si l'apport calorique quotidien est de 3000 kcal, il faudrait donc jeûner 35000/3000 =11,66 jours. 5 kg en 18 jours correspondent normalement à une perte d'eau, qui se produit lorsque l'on mange moins ou pas de glucides.

    • @corinkacorinka3422
      @corinkacorinka3422 7 місяців тому +2

      @@foghather😊 rien à voir.. D ailleurs de je ne parle pas de graisse corporelle. Je mange juste différemment sans réduction de quoique ce soit. Le but n'était pas de perdre du poids mais de m appliquer à ne pas avoir de pic... Si ça fonctionne à tout niveau, ça me va très bien aussi... C est un peu le but d ailleurs et une bonne chose que ce soit de l eau. Toujours du poids en moins 😊 un équilibrage de vie n apporte que du bienfait. Si ça doit passer par un changement d ordre alimentaire , ça vaut le coup de tenter...

      What's wrong with limiting carbs?

    • @Hertz2laugh
      @Hertz2laugh 8 місяців тому +1

      Nothing.
      Humans produce their own glucose from protein.
      The process is called gluconeogenesis.
      So, there is literally no downside to limiting carbs.
      Well, if you are addicted to carbs, there is a *_huge_* downside to limiting carbs. But that's a sensitive topic.

    • @shrugalic
      @shrugalic 8 місяців тому

      Exactly. In my book that was actually good advice from this doctor; addressing the root cause rather than prescribing a pill. But yeah, very sensitive topic. Allow me to recommend watching Sugar, the bitter truth, by Robert Lustig. It's 14 years old, and basically a biochemistry lecture, but rather eye opening. It has 24 million views for a reason. In short: Sugar is very addictive. Going keto was the best thing I ever did. Maybe that's too far for some or even most, but reducing sugar in particular and carbs in general seems like a good idea for many people (with exceptions maybe for high intensity athletes)

    • @shrugalic
      @shrugalic 8 місяців тому

      Interesting what just showed up in my YT feed: Carbohydrate, the daily dose of poison - Dr. Gary Fettke. I'd describe it as a less sugar-coated (no pun intended) version of this video, worth watching in my opinion. In the same vein: Carbohydrate are a non-essential nutrient - Dr Paul Mason. They're published in a carnivore context, which I realize seems extreme to most people. It's an interesting topic to think about nonetheless.
      Dr. Mason makes a good point: continuous glucose monitors (such as the Freestyle Libre) are a good teaching tool. I myself was inspired to wear one after seeing the TED Talk "What is the best diet for humans?" By Eran Segal. Seeing is believing. :)

    • @Hertz2laugh
      @Hertz2laugh 8 місяців тому

      Look up Nick Norwitz.
      He is specializing in exactly this topic.
      He just released a case study where he used glucose consumption to alter his own cholesterol.
      Here is the title of his published paper:
      _Oreo Cookie Treatment Lowers LDL Cholesterol More Than High-Intensity Statin therapy in a Lean Mass Hyper-Responder on a Ketogenic Diet: A Curious Crossover Experiment_
      He also has UA-cam content.

    • @jmodified
      @jmodified 8 місяців тому

      @@Hertz2laugh It is only a small percent of the population who respond that way though. Even most thin lean people will not have greatly elevated LDL on low carb diets, and usually lower than on a higher carb diet. The only way to find out is to test. It's also not known yet whether high LDL in that population (currently called "lean mass hyper responders") is harmful.

    very well laid out. Spikes cause vascular damage, kidney, heart, eyes. CGM's need to be cheaper and available OTC in the U.S. They've been approved. It's taking too long to get them on the market. I'm type 2, pre-diabetic, no insulin script. I get them on-line. Takes a lot of searching at times to get a good price. Wearing one has been a revelation.
