Destiny Taken King: Patch 2.0 First Impressions and Thoughts

- Patch 2.0 hit us and hit us hard yesterday. I got a lot of questions during the stream about my thoughts on the entire thing, so let's chat. Overall, I don't think there were many things to not like about the patch, I mean really, who doesn't like the kiosks or extra vault space?
Check out the LEGO video: • Lego Star Wars Millenn...

MIDA is solid IMO, especially in Rift while running the Spark.
Just watched the Lego Vid and noticed...
DATTO IS NOT ACTUALLY NAMED DATTO IN REAL LIFE BUT STEPHAN!
Who would have guessed.
Red Death, Bad JuJu and Stranger's Rifle is going to be everywhere pretty soon.
+Gerrel Saunders Yeah I was so glad that it got upgraded to a legendary...Like wth is with it being a blue weapon, didn't make sense!
I was trying to use a full auto scout last night and I switched to Red Death in the first 10 mins.
Mida is pretty strong as well but yes my almighty red death will return as my main gun
+will sawyer True, I forgot to mention Mida. It's awesome!
bro i have the high road soldier with full auto and that gun just melt everything, it does 57 to the head close range to medium range and even long range ,, but the best thing about it, is the fire rate ;)
I've been using Mida Multi Tool today and I've loved it, especially on Bannerfall and Memento
Its amazing
+Absentduck MIDA Multi-Tool is still a viable option?
+ItsCryptiid probably top 5 bets guns in the game. Imo
+Absentduck me too i've consistently been at the top of my team on most maps using only mida
+Cullen Ferguson mida master race
Been a while since I commented on a video of yours, but I do want to say "thank you" for the video :) It's always nice to hear a valid opinion on things when I can't really formulate my own yet ;D Gives me a perspective to look at the patch from that isn't my own; before I dive back into Destiny. Thanks again! :D
Coming back to Destiny after a 10 month break. I followed you a lot before launch and until I stopped playing. You've always had quality videos and I'm pleasantly surprised that they've only gotten better! Thanks and keep up the good work. GL;HF
You're friends with LevelCap? I kind of see your personalities match, love both of you.
Yeah!
Rip field scout
I've been playing crucible for 3 hours now, and haven't been killed by thorn or TLW once! I already love this update!
Thorn was the only hand cannon that needed a nerf. So fuck Bungie for crippling the funniest weapon type in the game.
+Crispy Toast all these flavors and you chose to be salty
I like how you talked about perspective and experience, I feel like a lot of people don't understand that.
who else is still downloading, nobody, ok :/

(didn't see it in the comments) blink was given a longer cool down from .027 to .033 (after the second but can still blink across a map like a fairy). That's not a huge difference or really that noticable. Also it takes longer to ready your weapon (unless you are using bladedancer and have quick draw equipped). Warlocks can't shot will coming out of blink right away now until they are closer to the ground.
I completely agree I'm not sure what really changed with Red Death but it feels like a complete beast. The changes listed in the notes don't look like enough to make it feel this way but it just rocks worlds now.
Using the omolon test fusion rifle was the most fun I've had in Destiny in a long long time
HC's got nerfed way to hard, legendary HC's weren't the problem anyway, it was the exotics but now pretty much all Hand Cannons are useless. RIP. gg bungie thanks for making an entire weapon class useless, just like what happened to the auto rifles.
+thomasm3gtr. yepp. You rarely saw anyone go around with legendary hand cannons in the Crucible. Only with exotics. The exotics, the best of the best were an issue. not the entire weapon class.
+DerultimativeOzzy I guess I was the only guy running and gunning with my ascended Devil you Know, Lord High Fixer, and Loner.Rebel. If only they could manage PVE/PVP buffs and nerfs separately.
imo, the only handcannon that got hit too hard was last word, but thorn is still good and I don't really know what you're talking about with the legendaries, I used them a lot and thought they were great
+crazyndalazdayzZ Thats because your using a good perk set. Not because the weapon its self is good. Try and do just as good using a legendary without those perks and it's guaranteed you won't succeed.
+thomasm3gtr I ran around with legendaries like that all the time like red hand, I'll will, jewel, six dreg, word of crota, the revelator and and I thought they were pretty good
I agree 100%, I did notice (or feel) like the pvp time to kill was a bit quicker that before. Also I found team mixing was very lopsided.
Finally someone heard my prayer!!! Auto rifles are actually atttractive to use!! Not spamming hand cannons!! Now I can actually use my Hard Light in PvP!
I read in the patch notes that scout rifles were supposed to get a base magazine size increase, but I'm not seeing any change.
On the scout rifle point, I've actually been seeing loads of scout rifles. Mida, Vision and a couple of random blue ones have been pretty common for me to come up against (on XB1 btw). Shotguns have yet to really get on my nerves yet but guess I'll wait and see on them. That being said, I've been seeing found verdict and Invective popping up a lot more than in previous months
Thank you for being my main source of info for destiny. You are awesome.
7:34 is a prime example of how blink was nerfed, your opponent blinked up and instead of landing immediately it took him a minute to hit the ground, you saw this and shot him and he died
I've literally only used MIDA since the patch drop. It is an absolute beast now that hand cannons aren't nuts.
I felt the Blink nerf right from the start. The initial Blink animation is still the same speed, but the weapon ready time is way slower. It makes it much harder to get those mid air shot gun kills now, which is great. The auto rifles are a lot better too, the Hard Light is my favorite so far.
The burn damage nerf hurt my heart :(
BUT WE CAN SKIP CUTSCENES! Worth it!
Datto the jade rabbit unique perk on destiny armour, is called he fate of all fool. It also is similar.
I really happy that the hand cannons aren't as good as before. I love my Last Word and Hawkmoon, but I found myself not using them because I thought they were fairly cheap. Now I can use them guilt free =)
I was using the Saterinne Rapier yesterday and it was destroying people. I'm glad I kept it.
Not only is Blink still an issue but the Warlocks are getting the "Astrocyte Verse" which has "Teleportation - Reduces Blink cooldown and increases travel distance." Who thinks up these things? "Hey, we need to nerf blink but we should also make an exotic that enhances it!"
Mida Multi Tool is also really good now too, one of my favorite now.. Should give it a go Datto!!!!
I'll reserve better judgment after a couple of weeks, but as of now, it feels like shotguns are better off than before. TLW was THE shotgun counter. Right now the gun is very uncomfortable to use. I don't know what they changed (besides falloff), but I miss a ton with it, even up close. If you have any suggestion on what primary/secondary to use to counter shotguns in emergency situations please let me know!
You forgot to mention orbs are reduce to 7 and grant less super, and for ghost they took a lot of dialog out and didn't replace it (psion flayers strike). And finally a consideration giving drop off to pulse rifle for balancing ?
Hand cannon is definitely different now, and I really didn't like the nerf to the amount of ammunition a gun can carry. I had an auto rifle (with the extra ammo perk) go from 42 down to 30, which really kind of hurt. I liked not having to reload every few seconds.
Datto do you think you could make a video of a sort of checklist of things to do with the 2.0 patch? There's just so much to do I don't know what to do first lol
couple of takeaways from 2.0
i've been kicking ass with the vanguard dragon AR, called dispatch or some shit. identical rof and impact as suros, and i managed to pull focused fire on it (kind of a tank). i tried out my thorn, but i seemed to miss a crazy amount of shots. i know they nerfed them, but even hitting three body shots before dying was hard for me (hey dont make fun of me for this, im not amazing). also, i actually have noticed a blink nerf. when a ram came blinking towards me, i got him low before he blinked on top of my head.... but i was able to melee him before he downed me. pre-patch, i had never done this. i mean this warlock could've just been bad, but i'm pretty sure i'm seeing differences. about the ghost, i never really cared. busted through that shit before i noticed that my ghost was a shitty voice over. im all over the place, but i think shotties are a little different as well. my kill time w shot package matador is much longer, sometimes two shots. also, hardlight is all over the place (personally all teh bullets boucning around distract me but) hey that might be because im on xbox.
i've never comment on a vid before, let me know how i did
great 1st impression video - thanks man!
I used the Thorn and it still rules at mid to close range. Felt good to use the Suros again , But I agree with the comment about shotguns.
Heart of the Praxic Fire with the glow camo makes me look like a god walking among mere mortals. I'm a hit at the tower if you know what I mean
I definitely agree Datto, remove shot package + rangefinder.
Always good vids man. One question though. Temple owls shirt? I thought you were a Nova guy. You ever up that way?
One thing dinklebot was great at was deafining you in the archon priest strike
I actually think shotguns got nerfed too hard in PVE. They feel like they did before they got buffed, and that's not a good thing. Don't get me wrong, they needed some tuning, but this is too much I think. I'd cut the damage reduction in half, personally.
Everyone, pay your respects to field scout
Thank you for 100 rounds in my corrective measure
Rip my vanilla jolders. 26 round clip is stupid.
+dagoxo7arius My vanquisher isn't special any more :(
+dagoxo7arius it's kind of a douchey move, but Bungie's essentially trying to bury the year one weapons not only by leaving them behind power-wise, but nerfing the perks to hell. it was necessary though because overall the newer perks just weren't able to compete. this will, I think, likely result in weapon perks mattering less and less.
+bent2727 same thing with my against all odds :(
RIP both my double doen field scout efrideets your ammo sacved me in trials ; (
I agree with you, Datto. I think that they should add a bit of damage falloff to pulses. Most maps in the game currently favor close to mid range combat, and anything outside of that you can cover with a sniper rifle, so scout rifles don't really fit into the PvP meta right now in my opinion. Very pleased with the hand cannon nerf, I was noticing falloff just in my PvE gameplay with Fatebringer. I was pulling out Auto Rifles and actually killing things with them! Very nice. I also agree that shotguns didn't really see much of a nerf. They did nerf the barrel stat adjustments a bit so it is more of a trade to truly max out range, but that's small comfort. They made field scout pretty much obsolete in that now it only affects spare shot capacity and not mag size. Also extended mag saw a nerf. I was very confused when I looked at my Vex and it says it only has 3 shots in the magazine (sort of like the Truth UI error that Bungie will probably never fix...). Haven't given fusions (outside of the Vex) a go just yet. All in all, I can see pulse rifles becoming somewhat of the new terror. But that's not so bad. If Bungie nerfed the stability a little bit more, then consistent headshots would require a LOT of skill to get. I'm pleased that auto rifle stability was nerfed to make consistent head shots harder to get, and hand cannon accuracy also limits mid to long range practicality while placing more emphasis on snap shots. Scouts, if anything, got a tad of a buff, specifically in PvE. I don't really think I'm any more inclined to use them in PvP than I was before.
+JSings4Life95 Pulse Rifles have definitely got damage and accuracy drop off at long range. The issue is with a couple of PRs like The Messenger, which have the stability to manage at longer ranges.
Dude, the Omilon test fusion rifle is a beast in crucible. Not Dismantling that anytime soon
I like Nolandroid, he does indeed sound like a Ghost would sound, I suppose. And cheers for pointing out that the quest system for levelling 1-20 is easier too, been thinking of making another Hunter.
this update was WORSE than the one in march, or the in in April of Special and Heavy ammo fixes.
This dint do shit to auto rifles. It did them almost useless in medium combat. The only worth a damn is hardlight due to the no damage fall off fix, but it has a lto fo recoil and a strange pattern.
The LG HC were screwed. only the exotics one needed less mag and less range. not the others
Pulse rifles like bad juju and pilgrim were nerfed a bit too much, while the messenger and red death still stand
Scouts = nothing really, except the field scout nerf. :( I cri evtim
Shotguns are fine.
Thanks for fucking with fusion rfiles, and improving the Plan C BUT NOT THE POCKET INFINITY RIGHT? way to go bungie.
Snipers = nothing really.
Heavy weapons, they are fine.
Pocket infinity got stealth buffed. It has more range
dagoxo7arius really?
+dagoxo7arius that's not enough.. they fucked the shit out of handloaded, perfect balance and extended mag. how is PI even usable, it's completely reliant on the non existent stability, then they nerfed to the ground the only perk that makes it even usable.
+Rick C They need to get rid of the GOD DAMN DAMAGE DROP. Seriously the exotic perk when firing in full auto brings the damage to 60% after just a few shots. AT MOST it should 80%.
I agree the new ghost voice is sub par especially in key fan favourite moments. Nolan thought it'd be good to keep it very light but in doing so he got rid of the sense of danger and the unsettling feeling that I think players should have when first confronting hive or vex etc. Now it just sounds like you're going for a walk in the park not fighting for your light.
I won't right all of the changes I felt with the blink here, because it'll take me a lot of time, instead I'm gonna say that it was nerfed, and it's very noticeable
I've been rocking the messenger her benevolence and truth or mida in rift
I'm getting 2.0+ KDR every game now, sometimes even 4.0 and 5.0+ in some games. I purposely avoided using handcannon's pre-2.0 in PvP so I'm WAY better than everybody else using other weapons. I'm also a Titan, so no blink-shotties for me. It was a rough life, but it paid off, I feel godly now!
Can agree with everything you said. Blink shotgun still a 'Thorn' in my side.
Always been a pulse rifle guy from day on. Always used the BR and the m16 in CoD
like the hand cannon nerf, i think pulse rifles need that penalty for fast fired bursts. the Messenger seems to be getting more popular now that thorn and the last word are used less.
The lack of hand canons could be due to people trying other mains out. Im a hand canon user and didnt even bother with them last night. I was switching between my AR and Pulse Rifles just to test them out. This could be what you have been experiencing Datto. Im sure ill go back to Hand Canons sometime this week.
I'm surprised you didn't mention heavy. There were way too many occurrences (literally 5 skirmish games in a row) where we were blowing out a team, they spawned near heavy, and because of heavy alone, they managed to keep the games close enough. It's honestly way too much of a crutch to be spawning as many times as it does. Heavy should honestly only spawn once. Maybe twice, but as it is now, the spawning is broken.
Like seeing you team up with levelcap but wish you could get him to destiny with you
I heard that the new Crucible Pulse Rifle, Hawksaw, isn't too bad right now! Definitely give it a shot!
I think you really hit the nail on the head with the shotgun issue, there are just too many maps that are full of chokepoints and extreme close quarters areas for shotguns to not be dominant. Getting rid of shot package and rangefinder seems like the only logical option unless Bungie wants to completely revamp every map in the game.
awesome!!!! gonna pre order the taken king on sunday/monday. its gonna be awesome!!!!
Datto your the best, heard what your saying. I think overall the player experience will be so much better other than Blink-Shottys, hopefully BNG will do something
The easy fix for the voice acting for Ghost is this: obviously on top of having better writing, Ghost needs to INTERACT more with the PLAYERS. Let them have stupid banter, back and forth stuff. There's so much potential for the Ghost to try and understand Guardians more, and for Guardians to not understand shit the Ghosts know about. They could make it light and funny. It's such an easy fix. The reason why everyone thinks the NolanBot upgrade isn't much better is the writing itself. No amount of voice changing will fix bad writing. This is the way to overcome it.
Dinklebot: we've woken the hive! D:
Nolandroid: we've woken the hive. :)
Dinklebot wins.
great video datto
after patch I played some pvp, arms day is awesome, and not many hand connons, lots of pulse and auto rifles now especially necrocasm, still lots of shotguns. I hardly noticed any change in blink shotguns even after nerf and on a few maps maybe noticed that combo being used more actually. Shotguns could still use some work in PVP as the nerfs didn't seem to do as much as they wanted.
Overall pretty happy with the changes so far and Northbot will take some time to get used to but we will see how things go over the next few weeks.
No more sniping with handcannons? Tell that to my Lord High Fixer with Send It and Rangefinder. Mwa Ha Ha!
Before watching the video I'm going to say that ditto will talk it up as if it's the best thing ever
only change in blink shotgun I have noticed is that it is no longer blink instant shot it is blink step shot. not much of a nerf in my opinion.
also shotguns are still broken. they need to remove shot package and range finder and make max range about 75% of what it is now. that would make it an actual risk reward weapon instead of a mid range sniper
Bad Juju, Red Death, MIDA, Praedyth's Timepiece, Vex Mythoclast, Monte Carlo , Hardlight, SUROS and Abyss Defiant are pretty good right now, finally. Thorn and Last Word are where they belong: usable but not OP. I think this patch balanced things out pretty nicely to be honest.
Scouts feel good if you know what you're doing but idk about pulses they feel pretty strong and blink is more of a reagustment than a nerf but it is definitely easier to defend against
Bad Juju is sick now, probably my new PvP primary. Also felt however that if you can deal with Hawkmoon being less stable it still has about the same killing potential. And being a Blink/Shotgunner myself, I can definitely say it is a Shotgun problem, I don't think the maps need to change to address this. Agree with Datto on their perks tho, they need to go unfortunately.
I've been wrecking with the vision of confluence and the omolon fusion rifle, and I feel like shotguns are perfect(just back peddle).
i used a scout rifle, vision of confluence mainly. it was very good
Also when it comes to the shotguns, everything else received a decent range nerf. This allows the shotgunners to close the gap more easily. The weapons that used to be able to stop shotguns have now been nerfed, allowing them to run rampant, and I feel like shotguns are more useful now than they were before. What they need to do is lower the impact, like you said, or lower the range (or both?) so that they are only one shot kills at around the same distance as a melee.
totally agree about Nolan North. it's like he didn't even watch the scenes he was voicing like "we've woken the hive" is said so softly. it really doesn't fit that scene at all where a horde of enemies are storming at you.
My biggest issue... Not being able to play heroic story missions. I'd prefer it just to be the same as it used to be, not reliant on the light level.
+Kieran Dogma It's for this week, you know that right?
Read through the comments and some of you guys gotta stop focusing on the negatives, this update did a LOT of good way more than it did the bad. Sure some things could've been done better but this update was very solid.
Agreed 100%. Shotguns are still a huge problem. But how about those fusion rifles though? They are definitely better than they were and I'm excited to see them return. Kind of.
Hey, despite the fact that it got a significant range nerf, do you think that Hawkmoon will still be a viable choice for content in the Taken King? I'm just wondering your opinion on this, since even though it got a significant range nerf, it still deals a lot of damage at a close to medium range.
I was able to put all my weapons in the vault... without taking other weapons out of the vault. Best patch ever, 10/10.
I've been waiting for this video!
I'm behind all the hand cannon nerfs... except accuracy.
Even at closer ranges now, sometimes I feel like I'm aiming at what would be their nose, and the shot either becomes a body shot or completely misses.
The only weapon capable of countering a blink shotgun was last word. But with the nerf it got, by the time you get in range to shoot back you are already dead. Shotguns literally have more range than last word
The Messenger is still a beast even though it had it's stability nerfed. You can still reliably two shot people at medium range.
Datto, the patch didn't mention about Smallbore's magazine fix. It seems like the perk no longer reduce mag size but reduces the ammo you can carry. Can you confirm this?
Oh fuck that! now my legendary HC with luck in the chamber and final round is even more put classed!
The last word nerf honestly completely cripples the weapon. I want my old last word back for pve, it was such a fun weapon to use :(
I deleted my hunter last week to start a new one. It already feels much better leveling up normally from 20 to 34.
So I believe even if Blink gets nerfed along with shotguns I believe people will still have the skills to use those tactics effectively so in the new 2.0 update past skills will still shine and we have yet to really see the new form of year 2 crucible plus we still need to acquire the new exotics and the new subclasses as well.
To be honest, Nolan did better than I expected in the first part of the game (where your character gets re-incarnated). Oh well, we'll see how it goes.
it doesn't even matter if blink shotgun is nerfed now, its to late. people have gotten to used to the playstyle that they aren't going to change unless a huge change is made to punish the playstlye
I haven't played since the first couple weeks so I certainly haven't played the new patch. But I have heard the new voice in the commercials and all I could think was that he sounded as bored and monotone as Dinklage did, so what was the point? I always figured the majority of the problem was the script and direction rather than Peter's fault and this just seems to confirm that. You have a talented VA here, let him make the character interesting.
While I agree with a lot of your talking points, I'm not sure where your animosity towards shotguns is (still) coming from. I played a fair share of matches yesterday, and with my party crasher (aggressive ballistics, kneepads, reinforced barrel, shot package), I immediately noticed a large damage and range drop off compared to its power pre-patch.
I think the large reason is part to the year 1 perks/barrels: they nerfed everything. Aggressive ballistics' damage bonus was reduced by 50% and its range penalty was increased by 100%. This is pretty standard with all year 1 perks/barrels. I personally haven't noticed myself getting killed from unreasonable distances by shotguns so far. Quite frankly, they really only seem to be good at point-blank range.
Blink Nechrocasm new meta
played rift for a few hours last night with some friends and we had a fucking BLAST. yes i personally experienced the spawn trapping, got killed literally 5 times in a row without being able to move on one of the maps but i only had that issue on one map.
I don't know about other scouts in PvP but my MIDA is destroying auto rifles and pulse rifles besides maybe red death and the messenger.
YOU FORGOT ABOUT SHAXX :O !!! THIS IS AMAZING!
I still don't understand the hate for shotguns. I hardly get killed by them unless I put myself in the situation to get killed by it.
my issue as well. I have tried my matador, party crasher, and 2TTM, all max range with shot package. can't kill something 3 feet in front of me anymore
I use blink shotgun when I play on my bladedancer sometimes (I know, I'm a scumbag) and I can honestly say that I haven't noticed a single difference after the "nerf". My Felwinter's is still broken as hell. I think I'm going to switch to snipers full time from now on out of principle
They nerfed the time between when you can blink by 0.07 seconds. This only affects when you are trying to blink twice in 1 jump, like at the bridge in Crota's End. In pvp, there is no nerf, besides it taking slightly longer to ready ur gun
+Alex Mckeon It doesn't even make a difference to the Crota's End cheese. I did it a couple of hours ago and still made it easily with room to spare.
(-They added 3 new dead ghosts into Crota's End by the way-)
+Senpai Oppai the 2nd one is a pain in the ass for your eyes though
Wow, my look on these weapon changes are completely different lol. I felt these maps were really hard to use blink on and switched to double jump after two games. Blinking is hardly op anymore.
Hello everyone, is bungie talking about how there is some ttk quest errors that should NOT be completed before TTK since we are still in HoW and should have been rewarding TTK gear?
I was hoping my Blacksmith shader would have came over from 360 to xbox one with the kiosk or whatever. Pretty dissapointed it didnt carry over
Anyone else have an exotic bounty they were doing finish without actually completing it? I had the Bad JuJu bounty and had only done 2 of the 25 needed strike runs and after that i still needed a strange coin and 10000 crucible points but when i got on after the patch loaded the gun smith just gave me the Bad JuJu
Every incomplete exotic bounty was automatically completed
+Mike Shepard The exotic bounties were auto completed after the patch came out.
+Mike Shepard Thats what I thought but was just wondering.
+Mike Shepard Yes all exotic bounties were auto completed yesterday.
+Mike Shepard Same with Elder Cipher woohoo!
