The Nissan 350Z Was The Revival Of A Legend

  • The Nissan 350Z successfully brought the Z nameplate back from the grave. It did this by going in its own, modern direction. The 350Z was made possible because of the efforts of creative designers, relentless engineers, and ingenious executives at Nissan. This video extensively covers the conception, design, market reception, and lasting legacy of the Nissan 350Z.
The Datsun 240Z was a revelation, not just for Nissan, but for Japanese cars and the automotive industry as a whole. It offered stellar performance and unparalleled practicality in a stylish and affordable package. Nissan’s two-seat runabout started at $3,526, which undercut established sports cars by a considerable margin. And with 150 horsepower and 146 lb-ft of torque, it blew other coupes around its price range out of the water.
Shifting consumer tastes and increasingly stringent safety and emissions regulations forced the Z to evolve. In 1974, the 240Z became the 260Z. The update was all but necessary to maintain the status quo. While it brought performance figures back to snuff (and then some), it also added weight and introduced complexity. Engine displacement for American-market examples increased again to 2.8L in 1975. For as much of a sensation as the S30 was, it would be impossible to carry its philosophy into the 80s. The Z had to adapt or die.

Z32 got big and expensive. It’s, imo, one of the most beautiful cars ever made. I had a 91 pearl white 2+2(I had 2 kids at the time) and it was ❤. The z33 was a return to the every man’s sports car. It has styling that makes it instantly recognizable and great performance for the 25k you could get one for new. A true z car.

I've long thought the 350Z is/will be a future classic. I think it's lines are just so classic. The 370, and the new Z both look good. But they don't compare to the 350, despite being not all that different. I always thought the G Coupe was the one to get. Wanted one of those soooo bad in 2004/2005 when they released. That was the hottest thing on 4 wheels to me, $ repective. I still see many 350z/G35s on the road today.

Fact check. The VQ engine was developed by Nissan Engineers in the early late 1980’s-1990’s and released for production in 1994 in their Infiniti models. Renault and Nissan didn’t merge until 1999. Nissan gave the VQ to Renault to put in their Renault Espace

although it was a short iteration the 2007 to 2009 model year (soft top only) were honestly imo perfection there was nothing more to add to the Z than boost, the HR in Full Bolt ons form is able to get 340-350WHP on E85 extracting 100HP per liter at not just the crank but the wheels, at the crank the car is exceeding 100hp per liter, there are MANY HRs running 340-350RWHP very very impressive for what people would call "just" a V6 .... Hell of a lot more impressive than dodges pentastarts which relied on a short gear ratio of 8 gears just to achieve slower speeds than a Jatco 5at or 6MT on fbo

This car was a backwards step, because there were 2 great generations of turbocharged cars since the 240,260,and 280. Then you go with a normally aspirated car? I'm so glad Nissan came to their senses and made this (400)Z once again turbocharged, and at an affordable price. Everything works better with turbo.😊
