Lucy, I just found your channel 2 weeks ago and have been marathoning your Halo series and it's awesome to see how much more invested in the franchise you got. As a halo fan and an indie RTS dev, i love seeing someone not skip over the halo wars games. You are doing great for not really playing much real time strategy, but i can see playing frostpunk and other strategy games has translated over a fair bit! Thanks so much for watching! I have finished Halo Wars now, and watching this episode this back whilst editing had me cringing at some of my decisions haha! I defo learned faster after Arcadia City.
@@LUCYJROBYN Hey some of the best parts about strategy games is figuring things out and seeing what works and what doesn't! And I can believe it, judging from your warthog driving in 1 vs the end of 3. It's a learning process!
I am so glad you do not skip this game. The music is so phenomenal, even though, marty didn't play a big role in it. I recommend watching the Halo wars video of "the act man". He brings a lot of meta knowledge to it. But play the game before. His video contains major spoilers. Fun fact: this game is also playable in coop and it's a ton of fun to build a base and an army with 2 people.
5:15 I love how simple the design is and how easily you can figure out the mechanics. This is awesome game design. A shame essemble Studios got closed after the release of Halo Wars.
Oh and Lucy, I assume you play this with keyboard. Try using the controller. Halo CE brought shooters to console and Halo wars was a very good attempt to bring RTS to console. It has very decent controls. But it also might lack depths because it was designed for a controller. Just a recommendation if you like controller more than keyboard. ;)
Marty and Bungie as a whole didn't play any role in the game's development, music or otherwise. Ensemble Studio tried to reach out to Bungie several times during Halo Wars' development for consultation but were consistently ignored. The most accepted explanations I've seen for Bungie's behavior are that they were busy with their own games and detested the idea of someone else working on their franchise. Subsequently, all of Halo Wars triumphs _and_ failures belong to Ensemble alone, and its soundtrack in particular was all Stephen Rippy's work.
24:24 love to see how much you have with he game :) BTW, hunters are good against vehicles and infantry easily kills them. I think you will learn as you progress and somewhere in the UI you can also see against what the units are effective. I think.
Thank you for ACTUALLY playing Halo Wars! It honestly frustrates me how many people who are newcomers to Halo either skip this game and its sequel or just watch the cutscenes. The problem with doing that is that they end up missing out on so much in-game story context, which is very annoying. I'm happy to know that you didn't do that and actually decided to truly experience the game! Look forward to seeing you experience Halo Wars 2 in the future!!!
Little tip for Arcadia: I start by sending the hornets to the terminal in the beginning and send Forge around the city on his own to collect as many supplies as I can before the first transport is destroyed. Then I flood the remaining two transports with defenses and get a second base up and running as soon as possible. Ignore the civilians in the city who are fleeing for the transports. With two bases you can double your rate of tech research and supplies. Assault the enemy base as soon as you can.
Props for beating Relic approach the HARD way lmao. Poor infantry with no armor support getting thrown into a meat grinder 😂😂 but the Marines always get the job done 🫡
@@LUCYJROBYNit was very satisfying watching you figure it out during Arcadia! The part where you got fixated on taking out the covenant base reminded me of WW2 battles like Hurtgen forest or Stalingrad where commanders REALLY wanted to take an objective and just kept throwing men at it lol 😂 looking forward to the next video!
thanks for playing this, definitely the most underrated Halo of all time. i remember this being my first and absolutely loving it, never understood where the hate came from
Fun fact, Adam has recently become a minor character in the lore. He’s the CEO of the company Optican, which produces the health packs used in Halo ODST
So glad you're playing this one. If you'll notice, the music like the other games does not disappoint, especially the piano of the Spirit of Fire theme.
Stephen Rippy does not get nearly enough credit as he deserves for being the composer of Halo Wars. He was the first composer of a Halo game in which the music wasn't made by the Marty-O'Donnel-Michael-Salvatore duo, and he knocked it out of the park! Not only does he manage to keep the sounds, themes and feelings consistent with the music of the main Halo Trilogy, but he's tweaked it just enough to also sound unique for the crew of the Spirit of Fire and their conflict in a different time period from the events of the other games. It's Halo music through and through while also being able to stand on its own as something special. When fans discuss Halo's magnificent scores, they really need to drop Stephen Rippy's name in along with O'Donnell and Salvatore. He couldn't have done a better job. The Halo Wars score is perfect!
Stephen Rippy is also an Ensemble Studios champion, having been the composer even for the Age of Empires games. Where Civilisation and Warcraft have been kings and queens of the RTS genre, Age of Empires was the emperor... Yes, play-on-words intended. To be responsible for the music of both Age of Empires and Halo Wars is to be a legend.
I think Halo Wars has my favorite storyline. The Spirit of Fire is one of my favorite Halo ships. The name is so cool but its also one of the more interesting ships. It was originally built as a colony ship but was brought into UNSC service as a carrier ship near the start of the Human Covenant War. Its unique among the UNSC carrier ships because it has the ability to create new war materials like weapons and armor as well as vehicles like the warthog, scorpion, and pelican. Its also able to do self repairs because they have materials on board. Its also one of if not the oldest ships in the UNSC being originally build in 2473 making it over 50 years old by this point. The ship is 2,500 meters long 856 meters wide and 689 meters tall and has a crew of 11,350. Its also the only UNSC ship that has confirmed cup holders. Those Spartans are from Chief's class and by this point they are 19-20 years old. Chief is 19 during this game.
Glad to see you’re playing this. Most people skip it because it’s so different from the others, but I think it’s just as important to the enjoyment of the franchise as a whole.
Halo wars is a bit underrated imo. It's not full on RTS but good enough for a console RTS. Steven Rippy actually really nailed the soundtrack in this one too.
@@phantom117b4 Ensemble studios did consult Marty and Michael but that was before Rippy was involved with the project. All they got was the original sheet music for H1 and H2 which helped Rippy and his audio guy pick out motifs for the game other than that the compositions are all his own.
It’s actually funny. I seem to recall that the Arbiter in this game, was actually a Prisoner (violent criminal) before being given the role of Arbiter. It would certainly explain his anger in certain parts of the game. Please. If there’s any information to the contrary, point me in the direction.
Not sure if you've finished this level yet but biggest tips are As soon as you build a base build two Supply Pads & two reactos, then build an Air pad, you want too spam hornets in this mission Once Cargo 1 & 2 are safe send some of your hornets to take the base on the right side of the map & make sure you build a field depot so you can increase your population cap, more units = win in this game Once you've done that make sure you have as many hornets as you can build & focus on protecting one ship, you should position your hornets in a big circle around the ship so you can see & destroy enemies before they can attack the ship Near the end of the level they will start sending locusts which have really long range so make sure you're hornets arent too close to the ship or you wont be able to see where they're attacking from. Lastly after youve set up to two bases & saved adam dont move your units around, stay on the ship your protecting
Grunts seem rather like comic relief! No one gets RTS games when starting out! :D RTS games seem to be played by juggling attention (and I'm not good at it, but I'm getting better). Rules for RTS games: 1. put your production buildings on a hot key. 2. put your troops on a different hot key. 3. Start building units. 4. When you have a good group of troops, give them an attack command 5. After attack command given - immediately hit the production building hot key, and build troops 6. Focus back on your attacking troops 6 a. never ignore enemy troops attacking your troops. 6 b. Any unit being attacked - select only that unit, and retreat that unit only 7. Repeat 3 - 6 (especially 5 - never stop building units)
You're my favorite channel because of the complete immersion you're experiencing with the series. It's really what separates true gamers from every other creator who just wants to push out content. The "I have no idea what I'm doing yet but it's great" approach is so holistic and refreshing. Thank you for all the work you put into this!
All of the cutscenes in this game were made by Blur Studio, they also made the cutscenes for Halo 2 Anniversary and Halo Wars 2. They are one of the best CGI companies in the industry with one of my favorite things they worked on being cinematics for Star Wars: The Old Republic, and most recently Secret Level.
Chief and the Spartans ll we saw in this game were in his 20's on this time period. He just got his supersoldier aumentation 5 years ago, like all his fellow spartan ll comarades. He's was not in Aracadia but surely causing some noise with his blue team in another mission in parallel. PS: If I remebered well Chief was in his 40's on the events of Halo CE
I skipped out on these for a long time and just played the first game less than a year ago, haven't gotten to the second yet but I'm definitely interested
I love watching this ❤ I see what you were going for with your play style. With wanting to split forces. The best way i usually handle that is “All Unit” or Group Meeting and split them up to where they are needed then only control them with “Local Units Button”. Love your content. Keep doing you ❤
Is it just me or did she asked for suggestions of RTS games to play? Personnally, my favorites were Battle For Middle Earth 1 and Warcraft 3. Although, I would also suggest the different Ages of Empire and Starcraft 1 & 2. I played Halo Wars when it got out, and yes, playing with a controller is not ideal for this kind of game, but it was manageable and still fun. I fell in love almost instantly with this Halo game after hearing the soundtrack intro. So thanks to give it a chance, and I know you'll love the story. 👌
Lucy, you need to wag a finger at your chat for letting you struggle like that lol! Build wolverines from the vehicle depot and they'll make short work of the banshees, which seems to be your biggest problem. Other than that you were doing everything right!
I was a general on Xbox360. I loved this game, so many hours. The 2nd one was not as good, as everyone else has said, thank you for actually doing this one. Fantastic game, the multiplayer was amazing when it was actually alive. I miss it.
Been loving the play throughs a lot. For Arcadia I would say to split your hornets to defend cargo one and two while you send Forge to gather resources around the map. Make sure to keep healing him and the cargo ships, that way you can have a few more resources on hand in order to build more hornets and splitting them up to defend the cargo ships. Just a little pointer that worked for me, keep it up 🙏🏻🙏🏻
I remember Halo Wars being absolutely brutal on console in difficulty back in the day, but also a really well structured game which is something I never thought I would say about a console RTS. Fun fact: Halo Wars was also made by Ensemble Studios, the original studio that made Age of Empires 1, 2, 3 and Mythology. Halo Wars was the last RTS game they made under the Ensemble banner and they did a fantastic job with it.
fun fact.... the spirit of fire originated as a colony building ship and was retrofitted as a wartime campaign ship, the spirit of fire can single handedly conduct planet wide campaigns... amazing ship excellent captain as you will see
Very fun to watch! You’re not half bad! You may benefit from this advice. While your troops will fight back if attacked, they will not move unless told. A stationary target is easier for the enemy to hit over a mobile one. So if you are attacking someone, instead of just clicking on the enemy, try instead clicking around them instead. The warthog will shoot the enemy while it drives back and forth, causing the enemy to miss a bunch of shots!
54:14 UNSC only made one batch of SPARTAN II. It was mostly because it was too expensive to make more and other reasons, that armor ain’t cheap. The ones you just saw are the same age as Master Chief.
@ yeah I did think about it, I was going to put that down but the SPARTAN III program happened. Lots of people won’t know about that unless they read the books or go into the halo lore. It much easier to kidnap children if they are orphaned and easier to train since they are revenge driven.
Your biggest struggle is the all units. You definitely HAVE to split units in this game. But it's about multitasking. So you'll want to set a team to each transport ship, for example. And then build the base. Set up infantry in garrisons (towers, bunkers, etc) they take less damage that way. Then, as each group of units defends, you want to upgrade your base and make more units. Then dispatch them to specific locations and such. It'll take more time to really get the rhythm, but it's necessary to beat the game
Nice video Lucy. You learned amazing. That fourth mission is nearly hell on legendary but ive Done it and saved both transports. Using forge in the early game to gather supplies and building the base at the earliest second is critical. Loved The part you sent the Scorpions to #2and left Firge and the Hornets at One. The transports don't have a ton of HP but you can heal them clear full and heal other units just by having the regeneration ring barely graze them but while taking fire the healing does nothing momentarily. Congratulations on nearly completing the 2nd hardest level. On legendary the 6th mission is definitely the worst but if you don't Get the 3rd Rhino in position until you have all the upgrades and plenty of Scorpions and Wolverines. Surprised as hell that with 25 seconds the turret hits your Last ship.😂
12:40 that Arbiter is Ripa 'Moramee he was the Arbiter before Thel Vadamee the Arbiter we play as in Halo 2 Master Chief was 14 years old when he and the rest of the Spartan-IIs began fighting the Covenant.
14 or 15 but with the bodies of super-fit 18-year-olds. With Halo Wars set about five years later, the Chief might look about twenty-three or twenty-four at this point, but so would Red Team beneath their armour.
WOW! This is my first "Watch Through". Never played it when this dropped. My ADD self couldn't get the hang of these kind of games. Looks really fun! Definitely feels ALOT more like a Halo game than what 343 shat out and gave us.
I hope you won't mind if I give you a few pointers even though I only ever played with a controller. You have something called leader powers that you briefly looked at on the second mission. The main one is a regeneration Ring that heals every friendly unit it touches. You can deploy it at an army or base or The transport ships on Arcadia City(4th mission) you need to upgrade your base to be a station then it can have defensive turrets so you won't have to send your army home to defend it as often and it gets extra slots for building supply pads and reactors which I noticed you weren't doing. Reactors get the Technology capability up( it looks like a lightning bolt ⚡ by your supplies. Reactors can be upgraded to Advanced reactor for 1200 supplies but you can get more new ones for cheaper. Upgraded reactors allow you to buff the armies you have on the field. Marine squads get first an extra marine With the New Blood upgrade so they have more HP. Then they get rocket launcher which are better than grenades and Last a medic to heal up squads after skirmishes. Also you can get an air pad for a new units and a vehicle Depot and build scorpions etc. but only with 2 tech level ⚡ Glad to see you using Z to Go to your base fast. Another button will scroll to your leader or cycle through armies if you have them split up
This is my favorite game of the series (followed by Reach). It has solid mechanics, and there are lots of viable combos. The maps are great, the soundtrack is gorgeous, and the general aesthetic just feels right. The sequel introduced a lot of fun new toys to play with, but lost some of the more down-to-earth (no pun intended) realism. The next mission after Arcadia city (Arcadia outskirts) is a very unpopular level, but it's my favorite. There's so much cover on the map that can be garrisoned, and placing a machine gun spartan in one specific piece of cover will cause every covenant infantry unit to attack it, resulting in WW1-levels of machine gun carnage.
Definitely on a learning curve, I was too I think what you need to do with this mission is Scout your whole map out with your Hornets first, just so you can see what is where and if there's anything you need to destroy like there might be big turrets I can't remember that's what took out your last transport in the end it's only took one shot from that just about destroyed it, even though your repair was on at the time common next thing you need to do is get your bases up and running quicker, definitely get your two reactors going and then if you can get more than one base up get it completely upgraded get at least 4 reactors up and running that will give you all your power that you need for everything come and get your turrets up and running around the bases and upgrade them as soon as possible. Upgrade your War Hogs to the max with Gauss cannons max out your infantry to release Rockets if not Spartan lasers that will help with your air defense against the Banshees in any other heavy enemies. And then with your bases make sure that you building expand as many of your supply Depots as possible in both bases, I would recommend also getting as many War Hogs and Falcons built that's possible more so than the Scorpions they're faster more maneuverable have a bite like piranha, I don't know if you can upgrade to the air defense units but you can try that as well and drop random ODST troops in the southern region to help slow down the enemy, but it's a lot of fun learning and it's fun watching good luck
What was I actually kind of heartbroken for you when the big huge plasma came online and wrecked cargo 2 on that fourth try. If you upgrade your base to a fortress you could get a field armory and upgrade your Marines movement speed and Your leader power which is an Arrow of Bombing on that mission. Not quite as useful as the Mac against Banshees and turrets but good enough if you find the Covenant Citadel their base is shielded so you don't want to stay in the withering fire but you can kill the mega turret. At 1:34:00 Serena tells you that they are building heavy turrets And they can artillery strike the transport ships. Getting two bases on Arcadia city is a bit difficult but allows for you to get three tech so you can get wolverines and they're great at shooting down banshees and spirits since their anti-air also it unlocks the scorpions unique ability Canister Shell. Devastating to Infantry and good against turrets (building)And Vehicles. I guess you probably don't stream this game while you are playing on UA-cam right? Would be really fun to watch you and point out some fun things you can do.
What happened at the end is that the Covenant build a mega turret, those can hit from almost one side of the map to the other, there is a Covenant base in the city so aside from defending the cargo ships I would recommend sending some scouts to make sure they dont build the mega turret, Serina told you about that 'Heavy turret' at the end, still nicely done, even better than me at the beggining :3
Yea that fourth mission really tests your skills in strategy I would try taking as many towers as you can to cover as much ground on the map as you can so you can see where the enemy is moving.
You can also select Local units and scroll through each group of type of infantry. Hope that helps! We had so much fun playing this game online growing up! So fun to watch your playthroughs!
I'm one of the few people who didn't skip this game because I like RTS games. Halo Wars is my favorite out of all the Halo games. There is a bit of a learning curve but I think you will get it with practice. Also, a little tip for you Lucy. Build up & upgrade your base first, then make as many units as possible & split them to cover ground. Don't have all your units in one place. Also, make sure to scan the area, the transport was being taken out by a faraway enemy unit in that last mission.
All these years, I never knew Adam was an actual person in the level. 1:28:42 I'm curious if this is a PC version of the game, I'm not sure if you can create separate groups by pressing CTRL+1, CTRL+2? In age of empires that's how you can create different armies then just press 1 or 2 to select different armies and since this game was made by the same developers as AOE, thought maybe that would be an option. In the XBOX version you can't, which is dumb. They should have given a way to create numbered armies.
Hehe. The arcadian grinder makes either heroes or fool out of many newb commanders. Looking forward to seeing if you manage it. Remember, this mission needs incredibly fast response units, and if you select a whole group, they will only move as fast as THEIR SLOWEST UNIT. Bear that in mind and build up your army accordingly. Invest in your upgrades to dish out more damage and increase your units' resilience. It only gets trickier from here.
I've mostly played Halo Wars with a controller so I don't have any advice for your controls but it's very simple for an RTS once you get into it Also good on you for noticing that's not our Arbiter right off the bat!
Dont feel discouraged, this mission is by far the hardest mission in the game, at least it was for me. I recommend getting 2 bases up and going, upgrading them to fortresses, building turrets and upgrading those with whatever you like considering a mix of infantry, vehicles, and air come to attack it, but any upgrade will help on the turrets. You can also build a field armory and upgrade your turrets HP and overall damage as well (these 2 upgrades are different. One is purchased from the turret itself, and the other is purchased out of the field armory), but once youve done those things, build as many marines as you can and place them all over the map in any sniper tower you can find. This will maximize the amount of civilians you will protect and you wont have to be everywhere at once. I'd also upgrade them to ODST to give you the ability to drop some out of the sky to any place that theyre needed. Lastly, i'd build 2 or 3 Wolverines and sit them right around the spots you were sending the hornets so that way if any banshees come, theyll be taken care of quickly. If you can, upgrade those too to help with damage output. Another big tip, using the healing ring ONLY works if the unit youre trying to heal isnt taking damage. Once it has taken damage, it stops healing and doesnt start back up until damage hasnt been applied for about 15 to 20 seconds. Just keep that in mind. Hope this helped!
Lmao, brutal. They were using the mega turret to hit your ship which is why it kept dying out of nowhere. It's a long range turret that can hit things from across the map for huge damage. I forget where it is on the map, but you can knock them out of it and use it yourself.
Upgrades and careful unit choice and placement is key. Don't put all your units in one place. On heroic difficulty I was able to save both ships on Arcadia and keep most of the map clear of Covenant saving more than 1,000 civilians. Also there is a Covenant Mega Turret on the far right side of the map next to a Covenant base. That is what destroyed the ship.
Oh LOL I sent that message at 1 hour nine after the first fail on Arcadia City. Then I see you upgrade to station at 1:17:42. Heck yeah you learned. Now use leader power well and you can save Cargo 1 &2 which can get you 1000 civilian rescued. The regeneration Ring is super valuable. And you can upgrade Supply Pads with a reactor and they start producing almost double.
Fun fact. Did you know Halo CE was originally conceived as a PC (or rather, Mac) strategy game? That's part of why it translates so well into an RTS. Its nice to see that original vision realized in some format.
I Remember my first time playing halo wars, I didn’t like it. But somehow I kept playing it(because it’s Halo lol) and now It’s one of my favorites lol.
So this is probably the hardest mission in the game. Just in case you have not beaten it yet here are some tips. Keep using the heal and repair, but keep in mind it does not work while what you are healing is taking damage. There is a mega turret that comes online in the last minute or so. It is on the right side of the map. You need to take it out if you only have one ship left at the end. As it cannot be blocked and can one shot a ship. Your best bet is to make hogs and hornets. They cover everything between the two of them on this level and are both very fast and easy to relocate. You can also go marines and just fill garrisons all over the map.
(Hard to be the 118th like with this series, lol) But Finally! Another person actually willing to play Halo Wars instead of just watching the cutscenes. Sure, even if someone doesn't like the game much they miss out on so much story by skipping the gameplay. Looking forward to your playthrough. Also if you have any questions or need any tips feel free to ask the comment section, I'm sure a lot of us would be willing to explain how things work in this game to make things easier for you.
Since you’ve now beaten the game, why not do a followup where you go back and try to save Adam on Arcadia? There’s an achievement for doing so. There’s a little door panel that can be opened when a unit is near it, freeing Adam so you can escort the kid back to the shuttle!
Girl this was a hard watch for me. Hahaha Halo wars 1 and 2 are my favs. Using a controller is peak, i think a keyboard would even confuse me. I hope to see more Halo Wars! It'd be cool to see you improve to where you can really enjoy it!
RTSs historically did not do well on console cause they were ports from PC. Halo Wars was designed for console, so they did some really innovative design stuff to make it play well. Fun fact: the original Halo actually started as an RTS. At one point early on they were following units around battlefield as the battle raged and thought it would be cool as a shooter. So they started developing it as a third person shooter and eventually an FPS. A shooter on the scale of an RTS. That's why it has huge levels and vehicles and stuff and was so original. They were later acquired by Microsoft and made a launch title for Xbox, and the rest is history. Halo Wars was them revisiting this original concept.
That evac mission is a pain in the butt, I can't believe how long it took people in chat to tell you about the leader powers, that healing power comes in handy. Also if you aim it so it covers your units, as well as the carrier, everything gets healed. A few things that help, certain structures can be garrisoned by infantry units, marines are great for that, If you post marines around the map, they will keep Covenant units occupied, and away from your carriers. With the main threat being vehicles and aerial units, flamethrowers are practically useless on this mission, so don't waste money on them. There is an enemy base on the far East of the map, if you pile enough units in there, you might be able to take out those turrets that bombard you in the final minute. It's highly unlikely though. They aren't the biggest threat to the carriers though. The real threat, is that the enemy base is upgrading it's units too, including the banshees, which near the end are upgraded to a suicide divebomb upon death. It's those divebombs that have been killing the carriers. The divebomb will target bases or vehicles as a priority, so, when you know where the banshees are coming from, put your tanks there, and they might hit those instead of your carriers. While it's tempting to sacrifice a carrier, the real danger is in that last minute, and if you have both alive, it splits the covenant forces, or turret bombardment, so they can't get both. Finally... who the fudge is Adam? I never heard his mum cry out, never knew he was in there, now I have to boot up this game and see if he is on the Xbox version... I like your content, I hate that I have been given a reason to play this mission again, Wort Wort Wort.
Halo Wars is mostly standard rock, paper, scissors. Generally, Infantry beats air, air beats ground vehicles, ground vehicles beat infantry. Conversely, both factions have specific units that are specialized and super strong against a specific unit type. for instance, although air is generally better against ground vehicles, the UNSC has a ground vehicle that is specifically strong against air, likewise the Covenant's hunters while considered infantry are very strong against vehicles, and jackals will tear your marines apart in seconds. Make sure you pay attention to what types of units you're fighting, that way you will know what type of units to make to counter them and make these missions easier. Different missions will have different upgrades/units available/not available to a degree. you only need a max tech level of 4 for all upgrades/units. Example: In the second mission one cargo ship gets attacked by air units quite frequently, so it would be a good idea to make anti-air units and have them stay there. I believe the tutorial missions teach you a lot of these things, might be worth trying if you find you're struggling too much
A lot of first timers don't realise just how early in the war the events of this game take place. The Human-Covenant War started in 2525 (from the current ingame date that's 6 years ago) and wouldn't end until 2552 (exactly 21 years from the current ingame date). So by this point the war had already been raging for 6 years and it's nowhere near close to the end....and it gets a lot worse for Humanity from here on out.
ALL UNITS. LOCAL UNITS. ALL UNITS. LOCAL UNITS. God, I love this game.

24:24 love to see how much you have with he game :)
BTW, hunters are good against vehicles and infantry easily kills them.
Exactly! Why would you only want half the story. The cutscenes make no sense without the context of the gameplay
Ignore the civilians??? That is no bueno for Lucy 😂
Good strategy though. Can't save everyone! lol
@ exactly my thoughts as I was typing 😂
Props for beating Relic approach the HARD way lmao. Poor infantry with no armor support getting thrown into a meat grinder 😂😂 but the Marines always get the job done 🫡
Ee I know hahah. Having now finished the game, I was cringing watching this back during the edit!
@@LUCYJROBYNit was very satisfying watching you figure it out during Arcadia! The part where you got fixated on taking out the covenant base reminded me of WW2 battles like Hurtgen forest or Stalingrad where commanders REALLY wanted to take an objective and just kept throwing men at it lol 😂 looking forward to the next video!
thanks for playing this, definitely the most underrated Halo of all time. i remember this being my first and absolutely loving it, never understood where the hate came from
53:00 the first time I saw this cutscene I had goosebumps. Pillar of autumn and multiple Spartans? How couldn't you.
There was only one Spartan II project. So no, master chief isn't a baby. He is just very old in the Halo Trilogy 😅
Strength in numbers! Attack everything with everyone!
"Its also the only UNSC ship that has confirmed cup holders" Lol I love that you included such a random detail about it.
@ I think it’s one of the funniest random details. It makes the ship kinda fancy feeling.
I believe he did have Marty's help
@@phantom117b4 He had a look at some of the sheet music for halo 1 and 2 but outside of that he composed it all solo
@@Troggerz I just wasn't sure
How exactly is it not full on RTS? This is literally an RTS.
@@phantom117b4 Ensemble studios did consult Marty and Michael but that was before Rippy was involved with the project. All they got was the original sheet music for H1 and H2 which helped Rippy and his audio guy pick out motifs for the game other than that the compositions are all his own.
It’s a different Arbiter. Since this is 20 years before the events of Halo 1. The Arbiter this time is actually a respected field commander.
plus the current aribiter (Thel 'Vadam) is most likely a kid at this point in time.
It’s actually funny. I seem to recall that the Arbiter in this game, was actually a Prisoner (violent criminal) before being given the role of Arbiter.
It would certainly explain his anger in certain parts of the game.
Please. If there’s any information to the contrary, point me in the direction.
Not sure if you've finished this level yet but biggest tips are
As soon as you build a base build two Supply Pads & two reactos, then build an Air pad, you want too spam hornets in this mission
Once Cargo 1 & 2 are safe send some of your hornets to take the base on the right side of the map & make sure you build a field depot so you can increase your population cap, more units = win in this game
Once you've done that make sure you have as many hornets as you can build & focus on protecting one ship, you should position your hornets in a big circle around the ship so you can see & destroy enemies before they can attack the ship
Near the end of the level they will start sending locusts which have really long range so make sure you're hornets arent too close to the ship or you wont be able to see where they're attacking from.
Lastly after youve set up to two bases & saved adam dont move your units around, stay on the ship your protecting
WOAH was not expecting this! You're awesome for not skipping this game. I think you will enjoy this one a lot.
Never played Halo wars, but I’ll check it out here. Can’t wait for your Halo 3 ODST and Reach play through
Was an absolute blast watching you play this. You've got me hooked on it again
Grunts seem rather like comic relief!
No one gets RTS games when starting out! :D
RTS games seem to be played by juggling attention (and I'm not good at it, but I'm getting better).
Rules for RTS games:
1. put your production buildings on a hot key.
2. put your troops on a different hot key.
3. Start building units.
4. When you have a good group of troops, give them an attack command
5. After attack command given - immediately hit the production building hot key, and build troops
6. Focus back on your attacking troops
6 a. never ignore enemy troops attacking your troops.
6 b. Any unit being attacked - select only that unit, and retreat that unit only
Thank you for all the work you put into this!
yeah you where spot on about the Arbiter, its not a spoiler but this guys name is Ripa Moramee, our Arby is named Thel 'Vadam
Thanks for playing this. Like you said, a lot of people skip this game. It's a shame because some of my best Halo memories were here.
So glad you played this one. The Halo Wars games have always had a special place in my heart and finally seeing someone play it is great.
25:04 "You're on a side quest"
I love your commentary, Lucy! 😂
I WATCHED THIS WHOLE VOD AND NOW IM WATCHING THIS!! So damn good. Thank you Lucy for playing this and continuing the story
I skipped out on these for a long time and just played the first game less than a year ago, haven't gotten to the second yet but I'm definitely interested
Finally someone playing it! Love the music in this one!
I never finished this game because of a mission that was just too hard. I'm looking forward to seeing you succeed!
I was a general on Xbox360. I loved this game, so many hours. The 2nd one was not as good, as everyone else has said, thank you for actually doing this one. Fantastic game, the multiplayer was amazing when it was actually alive. I miss it.
53:54 Lucys Oh my god was "Sound" of wow . And the you see multipull Spartan II, s you know that shit has hit the fan!
Like a lot of people I skipped over Halo Wars and it's sequel but I'll happily watch this series to see what I missed.
Can’t wait for the next attempt, this video was funny 😂
54:14
UNSC only made one batch of SPARTAN II. It was mostly because it was too expensive to make more and other reasons, that armor ain’t cheap. The ones you just saw are the same age as Master Chief.
Also because kidnapping a couple hundred six year olds and genetically modifying them was a lot
@ yeah I did think about it, I was going to put that down but the SPARTAN III program happened. Lots of people won’t know about that unless they read the books or go into the halo lore. It much easier to kidnap children if they are orphaned and easier to train since they are revenge driven.
Ah, hearing that classic halo chant as the Spartans show up never fails to make me tear a little.
01:11:36 okay XD classic
01:20:19 that smile 😖😖💜
01:34:02 Nooooo!!! Almost
You’re awesome for playing Halo Wars! I still play it to this day, the cutscenes in this game are phenomenal too.
I love the main theme of Halo Wars, it gets me emotional every time
Nice video Lucy.
12:40 that Arbiter is Ripa 'Moramee he was the Arbiter before Thel Vadamee the Arbiter we play as in Halo 2
Master Chief was 14 years old when he and the rest of the Spartan-IIs began fighting the Covenant.
ALL UNITS! Hahaha, awesome that you're playing Halo Wars it's so good
I hope you won't mind if I give you a few pointers even though I only ever played with a controller.
40:40 - "Anybody got any BBQ Sauce?" Lol that made me laugh
Halo wars’s skirmish games are so fun I love utter dominating the maps, and if I’m honest Serena is brilliant, she has humorous moment,
Definitely on a learning curve, I was too I think what you need to do with this mission is Scout your whole map out with your Hornets first, just so you can see what is where and if there's anything you need to destroy like there might be big turrets I can't remember that's what took out your last transport in the end it's only took one shot from that just about destroyed it, even though your repair was on at the time common next thing you need to do is get your bases up and running quicker, definitely get your two reactors going and then if you can get more than one base up get it completely upgraded get at least 4 reactors up and running that will give you all your power that you need for everything come and get your turrets up and running around the bases and upgrade them as soon as possible.
Would be really fun to watch you and point out some fun things you can do.
hahaha i had the same reaction when is listen "Pillar of autumn" the first time that i played this game. Love the EEs in this game.
Always get chills when they mention Autumn.
Halo Wars is my favorite game of all time!!!! ❤ let's go Lucy!!
One of the best RTS games in my opinion. Command and Conquer are the best in this genre, and Halo wars was pretty similar which I liked.
You’re gonna love this Halo Wars Music!
I feel confident in calling myself a veteran of this game. You not utzilizing the spoots meant for infantry to take cover in is PAIN ^^
Tingles down my back every time I see that intro!
I've mostly played Halo Wars with a controller so I don't have any advice for your controls but it's very simple for an RTS once you get into it
Also good on you for noticing that's not our Arbiter right off the bat!
I love both shooter and rts games (especially Command and Conquer).
id be down to see you play more strategy games! Age of empires 4 has a few well made and fun campaigns
16:26 My ears myst be going, cus i just heard "Unsque" 😂
Nah you heard right lol she likes pronouncing it that way.
i got this game day 1 played countless hours finished on legendary many times also fun with co-op
I hope we never run out of Halo things to see you play/react to
love your playthrough of halo war its kind of tough but once you get the hang of the controls itll be easy
I forgot how little this game actually guides you, Arcadia is always a brutal mission
C&C is My jam and along with Halo Wars it got Me into RTS games
6:46 "Optional: Kill 100 Grunts"
"Oh! Good God!" 😂
What happened to "you don't belong in this war little guys" Lucy? 😂
51:50 A civ 5 match would make an amazing video.
Thanks for watching! I think after Arcadia City I learn much faster
This Arbiter is Ripa Moramee who was apparently known for his extreme ruthlessness and lack of care for his comrades
I believe the tutorial missions teach you a lot of these things, might be worth trying if you find you're struggling too much
Halo Wars is peak Halo music.
