Brother I walked the dog for a few year’s hauling coal in the mountains of SE Ky, beautiful scenery and taught me some real driving skills. One mess up could be the last on those roads. The coal business dried up but I still miss it, 17 and driving that big ol DM800✌️🇺🇸
Used to drive a MR model packer with that 237 and the extended range 6 speed. Great set up, ran the same empty or loaded to the gills. 0 to 60 in about 5 minutes
I drove a lot of these 237s, 250s, and 300s! Drove a lot of the old thermadine engines with the douplex trans, triplex and quaderplex 18speed. I love the old Macks!!!
Heck yeh we ran a 300 plus in a 76’ DM800 Tri-Plex 15 spd #65,000 bogies, she was a real truck. Hauling coal in SE Ky those mountains broke many a lesser truck. 👍🇺🇸
You are like my Dad, as a little girl I would be in the thermodyne; b-61 while Dad would go get a bulldozer " Dad only had Caterpillars, The best he could buy. My Dad would go get his old cable dozer and loaded it. Those gear shifts would be moving and making grinding noise's. I was scared the Truck would take off with me in it . He had a old lowboy that he would use back then. I never told my Dad about being scared. He would have been disappointed in his girl. I got a whipping on the d8 one day. I thought we were going to go straight through the horse fence. I was little, but I hold all my time with my Dad and the Macks very dear. In 1978 I turned 21 and had my own Dm600 dump truck. I was raised in the shop and loved everyone that worked for us in my heart like family. I was taught every safe possible way in the truck. I loved seeing the black smoke as my truck was climbing out of the sand pit. She was pulling like the dog should, always. Dad passed away in 1985, the happy days were gone . My truck still sits proudly at our farm, so does my 46 Willy's jeep. Dad gave it to me. I still prefer trucks and all the Tomboy stuff. I am 67 now. Dad's last new truck was a 1977 Superliner. God, she was tough! When Dad was away I always got to drive her home, only if the lowboy was empty. I miss those days so much!❤🥸💥😈😈🤓🕔

The camera never does a hill justice, that ol girl is pulling hard, that’s a good little grade right there. I can’t wait for more vids like this where they work hard.
One of the best videos on UA-cam of an R model pulling hard! Anyone that has ever stared at a Bulldogs ass has scrapped a gear on those up shifts on hills because you can’t wait on the revs to fall before you lose your road speed! Good job!
What a hill ! Wow. Real nice little narrow country lanes too ! Not exactly user friendly when you're in a big truck ! Love this video. Great country roads and scenery plus a nice truck working hard too !

Hell yeh brother, typical Mack, underrated and overbuilt. They didn’t win any comfort or speed contests but by hell they ran and ran. I went places in a DM800 coal truck you wouldn’t think a dirt bike could go.

This is super highway compared to some of the places I’ve been in a Mack coal truck, look up “hauling coal in SE Ky” you don’t make too many mistakes and live driving those mountains.

Once you can maintain speed its best not to disrupt it
Ran a '97 DM 16ft tri axle For Alvin Haynes &Sons in Lexington 2000 to 2002. Thes new kids will never know the JOY.
Believe in it,,,
It will always
Stand.
Fkn power .
One thing about the older macks ,there turning radius is horrible. But the power and style is legendary💪👏
Any idea why the turning radius was so poor? Was it the wheelbase or steering angle and if the steering angle why so narrow?
Wow, did that bring back memories! Great job
Best dump truck ever made
Good operator.
Could you do in cab shifting gears
Smokey ol’ Macks
I don't think folks get that Mack rated their engines at the wheels, not at the flywheel. So a 237 was more like 300hp.
I never new that
Plz post more, a lot more !
Tiny roads In Kentucky 🧐
