I talked too a guy one nite on u-tube from mack in Allentown I told him the truck they build today will not be around in 40 to 45 like the old r- models and superline
Video was pure heaven to my ears! The great thing about Mack's were: sure they ain't the fastest. However they're reliable and got the torque to move mountains. My pap always used to say it's the truck that helped build America, and also: "Built Mack Tough". Great video as always and can't wait to see what the future holds for that old bulldog!
I really appreciate that! I couldn't agree with you more! They are the toughest out there and there's A lot to come! Be sure to check our Facebook and Instagram because I'm about to post some pictures of an update now
The R MACK is my favorite truck ever! I dont drive one but grew up watching my Dad run a front end loader in a gravel pit loading them up with gravel. Ahh the sweet memories😁 Also the mack has a very unique bogie.

R model Mack is the most Iconic Truck in the world and yours looks great plus set up for Heavy haul and it Sounds so Awesome....keep the Hammer and stay safe!!!👍
I have hauled my share of rebar from that location on Venango Street. Just loved Kensington Ave in the morning. That R Model seems like a decent truck. Give it a little time and you will work the bugs out it. You may need to put some insulation inside the cab under the rubber floor covering. I have used some from Eastwood Company and it made a big difference plus reduced road noise. I liked driving the R Models and got spoiled when the boss bought a 2 year old Pinnacle on Air Ride . Thanks for the update on the truck. Peace
That's awesome man small world, and I agree it should do us well, I'll be definitely putting some heat resistant material over the areas where it comes through. Catch ya on the next one!
Man that is pure American!!!! Lot of R models back in the day and still a few around. Have an early 80s R winch truck. Blast to drive, but not sure I would do it for a living.
Truck looks great. The one I drove had a spring seat for the driver. But my first day, I had to sit in the jump seat. IT WAS SOLID! Good for stomach muscles! Your route brought back memories. Kensington ave, Castor ave, the constant construction on I-95, Nj turnpike (with some of the most Ignorant drivers in the USA, in the truck lanes) Was surprised to hear it came with AC! Mine had the wing vents and floor vents. My jake never sounded that good. As for the heat, I tried to keep rolling or stop in the shade. I finally got to move up to a Vision and Granite.(made for AC, but none worked. So no vent windows or floor vents, but air seat) and a stupid plastic bumper. I don’t miss Philly at all. I quit driving and got a job loading and unloading trucks. A driver came in with a loaded pallet at the very front of a 48’. I told him I didn’t think I could reach it, and if I did, it might fall. He told me to go ahead. It fell and hit his corner fender. Ten years later, I’m at a car show and off to the side are some R model Mack’s. I told my buddy, this one looks familiar. Someone tapped me on my shoulder and said, you’re the one who damaged my truck!
That's awesome man! I'm glad I could bring back some memories for you. I agree on the stupid plastic bumper lol and that is hilarious on meeting that guy later on at a show that's awesome!
@@Only4Trucks a guy I used to work with, said he was the shortest Marine. I laughed at him and went back to work. Next thing I know, I hear someone laying on an air horn. He had a 4x4 block of wood attached to his clutch pedal. I’m over 6’.
Man that Mack looks and sounds beautiful!! Great camera and sound work... and nice to see some old familiar turf; NJ TPKE, Frankford Ave. Good on you for scooping it up, and so clean... no doubt because of where you got it out in ND. Now I'm by no means a truck/Mack expert, but when it comes to managing heat coming off that engine into the cab maybe think about doing some of the same DIY low-buck tricks we apply to any performance engine to better manage heat bleed; - Turbo Blanket/Wrap - Wrapping manifolds, forward 3/4 end of the exhaust pipe - Can you fit an electric fan that kicks on when underhood temps reach a certain point If you're planning to get into cab structure and floor as you mentioned, think about applying heat shielding around and under the firewall and forward floor sections...??? I mean setup is strictly business...🤔 it's a Mack, ...a day cab, set up for heavy haul, so that combination isn't going to be too kind to your backside, and looks like you got a decent driver seat... but maybe there is something out there on the truck aftermarket that can be applied to the rear suspension setup on the tractor to control trailer whip/dampen lateral motion??
Thank you! I appreciate that! I couldn't agree with you more. I'm not quite sure on what options there are to reduce the whip from the trailer as far as the suspension goes. But surprisingly I found out what the issue was and will share that in the next couple videos. I will also be trying a dynamat style panel to tape on the floor like insulation.
Hi from Australia very original old truck they are as tough as it gets mack running gear front to back and you can't go wrong she sounds good i like the jake tickle with the hand through the wheel
I have been too ill to drive truck myself for a number of years now, so thank you for maing these videos, it's great to see and hear the old trucks working even if I can't do it myself :)
Love the new tractor. Drove many in my time. 37 years driving. Remember first Mack, Quad box B model. Owner said if you can figure out how to shift in the next half hour , you got the job. I love the b model Mack’s ran a 64 b81 dump during the blizzard of 96 here in Jersey 3 days in that old girl endt 250 18 spd quad box I loved every minute of it would do it again
Oh I've been waiting for this one. First truck I rode in was an 86 R .EM6 300 and 9 speed. My grandpa had 25 of em in the 90s. All of them were hot in the summer..really hot. Yours seems to run...well better then most. it's not just smoke and noise like some e-6s. It's snappy..and seems to pull well through the whole gear. As far as the ride...ours always had front end issues...especially running NYC and Perth Amboy etc ..they'd get tore up..but if your sure it's the cab...maybe too much air? Shocks Obviously...but for a long wheel base like yours has it should be better then most...maybe cab mounts? Haven't been around one in so long it's hard to remember if we had one like that. Can't wait to see more videos on this truck.
Wow that's awesome! I appreciate that and I loved your story and wow 25 of them! I need 25 of them hahahah I also found the issue with the cab and will show it in the next couple videos! There will be a lot more videos for this truck. Be sure to stay tuned!
Cab shocks. As soon as mine starts bouncing like uncle buck i throw new ones on it. Those little 350s are strong little motors for what they are. Makes me want to go play with the old girl😂
Keep up the good truckin videos. I noticed in Philadelphia 2 parking spots blocked with chairs etc. lol weird never saw that before, where's the parking wars guys when you need em lol
Mack is my favorite truck manufacturer. I also have fond memories of a trip I went on last year around the same area, so it's neat to see the environment again. Anything bouncy, look into the shocks. Love your videos. Please keep it up
I remember getting a R model in 1980 it was a 68 but it was like heaven after 15 years in a 1949 international L 190 I spent the next 40 years in Macks, there great for dirt haulers.
What's up driver? Great video loved the content and enjoyed listening to that old girl sing going through the gears. Keep on doing what you do driver, each video is better than the last. Stay safe out there my friend and keep the videos coming and always travel safely catch you on the next one.
What's up man! Thank you I really appreciate that! That really means a lot to me and I'll be doing my best to keep it going! You stay safe too and keep on keeping on!
Beautiful ol mack buddy! Little trick i use with hand straps, after theyre hand tight i take my winch bar and give the last few clicks. Saves ya back with the leverage, when youre older your back and shoulders will thank you lol
Thank you! And Yes! I do it when I have a bouncy load that I'm concerned about but I definitely should do it more often to save myself the future pain!
I will be doing my best to get the mic. I'm going to spend some time testing it before the next video. I really appreciate that! And I don't plan on it, I love the sound of the trucks just as much if not more than you guys! I'll try and you do the same, thank you for watching!
As a truck driver, I gotta say this is the first person I have ever seen shutting Jake switch off in between every gear downshifting. Gonna wear that switch out buddy. What the hell are you doing. Leave the switch on. When you hit the fuel pedal, to rev the Jake’s shut off
That’s a great engine that 350 Mack I drove a DM 800 with a 350 Mack and a 12 spd box those old engines pull good being mechanical makes it even better hold on to that old Mack you won’t find anything more better or more reliable
Put a plunger switch on the shift lever to turn the dynatard on and off. The old two speed rear ends used an electric plunger switch. I have them on all my autocars for the jakes Even if you hook up your fuel and clutch pedal switches, it is still super convenient to have.
That's when Mack's were Mack's. That engine is a solid motor. When I worked for a dealer.... the engine E-7 series were pretty much bulletproof. I really liked the E-7 454. That was a puller. Its a shame that Volvo took them over. My company has the MP series engines. They are a pain in the ass. Constant problems. They are getting better with the newer models. But it isn't like the old engines. You have a solid truck. I would love to have it. A little TLC and that will be a runner
On the intake manifold there is a switch that looks like a air governor with 3 lines running to it take them lines off lay them on the intake and watch it smoke when you shift it's called a puffer switch recycles the smoke so it won't smoke so much
I have seen momentary switches for a jake mounted on the floor next to the accelerator. Step on the switch to activate the jake, or possibly relocate the switch to the shift lever if wiring the clutch pedal and foot feed is to much of a headache.
We used to pull the throttle lock out just a hair & that aloud the Jake to still work but not stall the engine & not idle the engine up either. You can run all day with the Jake on. Give her a try
Thats a mean looking bulldog for sure ! Love how its setup for heavy haul with the 3rd axle . Im going to get a superliner somday and restore it i hope
@Only4Trucks I'm a union heavy equipment operator so I got 15 more years and I can retire and do whatever I want , I got my class A cdl in a mack R model when I was 18 and have been hooked on macks ever since
My dad drove r models and i drove many different r models along with other macks and trucks in general. The r model is my favorite truck by far. Those 350s should have shitboff valves on the hoaes going to the heater core. I always shut mine off in warmer weather because without doing that it puts a ton of heat in the cab without the heater on.
Dad hauled Bethlehem's finest I beams for Horwith steel, one time I got to ride along in a R ,300 5spd only truck I ever rode in that pulled port Jervis at 45 mph 1 downshift and she pulled.
my god that thing growls like a beast. this is why i named my dog Mack. as far as driving goes do u like it more than the 1984 ford? great video. i hope sealing the cab wont take too much effort.
It really does! And I like them both for certain reasons so I would have to choose which one I'm driving depending on the day, but I may love them equally it's really tough to say. And it shouldn't be too much effort to seal the cab
For your jake their a spring switch on your clutch pedal they do go bad as for your throttle flow your linkage their the firewall in the old Mack over time it would get stiff on the firewall . The good old Mack are hard to come bye treat him good and he will run pas all the big boys. You might want to take the pump off and get it set up for what you want him too tu
Ive heard Macks arent the most comfortable ride. But man love the sound of that truck and watching that black smoke role! I hope you pass a lot of electric cars. Little do they know your making a whole lot less impact on the environment then they are.
i guess hat mic baited me from 2 videos ago... unless its the mic itself and there is a gain control maybe through an app or something... idk.. good luck figuring this thing out xD
I bounce around as much as you if not more. I run an 09 t800 with spring suspension. Rough as all hell especially in philly, jersey and long island. Really like that r model tho. I drove a 79 r model with the tri plex trans. Only problem was i just didnt fit in the cab. Thats trans made it fun as hell to drive tho.
You keep forgetting your sunglasses LoL. God damn that Mack can haul. Can pick up speed very quickly. Watching you down shift and use the jack switch is as close as using a twin stick shifter. Putting your arm thru the steering and shift up or down. Great backing at the end their. 10/10 One thing I'm happy about this mack, It have the original mack Engine.. and not those Volvo type engine. That is few thing that different Companies that make truck engine is the sound. Mack, Cat, Detroit, Cummins, Paccar, and many other type of engines. The sound you can tell apart from the rest. Hmm, might want to try to pair the voice on top of the video together to see how that goes. But its a work in progress I can see but keep it up.
I know man I lost them for a while but I found them! And the truck sure does run good. I appreciate that compliment too! Man that really means alot. And I agree it sounds great and I'm definitely working on the audio. I was forced to put it that way this time due to the volume with the mic but I'm working on it!
Is there any engine sounds better than a old mack truck ? Poor old girl was lost up in North Dakota ! She wanted to come back home to the Jersey Turnpike. She's beautiful.
Nice video. Please get your clutch pedal and throttle switches back in your Dynatard circuit. Those circuits are pretty simple but it only takes one switch to be open and you get no retarder. Slow brake response can be caused by kinked, pinched or undersized air lines. Slow to apply and slow to release because the volume of air is restricted. Most common place I saw this was in tired trailer connection lines so make sure your hoses are good.
Just a pointer I'd love to give you is if you put the mic on the neck of your shirt it would work better because I had my mic on my hat like you do and had bad audio then I put it on the neck of the shirt I was wearing and had better audio
Its always good to see an old dog still earning!
Absolutely!

Mack is my favorite truck manufacturer. I also have fond memories of a trip I went on last year around the same area, so it's neat to see the environment again.
Anything bouncy, look into the shocks.
Love your videos. Please keep it up
Thats awesome, both yours and my favorite!. I am excited to shout you out in the next video! I really appreciate that I'll be doing my best!
That is a beautiful and healthy sounding R model! Best of luck with it
Thank you! I really appreciate it!
Yeah, that steering wheel would drive me nuts. I would want dual true dual exhaust maybe 7in stacks??
Lol and duals would be cool!
See, this is why y'all can get these cool old trucks. Ain't nobody crazy enough to do your routes!
Hahahaha
Bro, that upside down steering wheel would drive me nuts.😂
Hahahaha I'm gonna be fixing it
@@Only4Trucks Me too! My OCD would be freaking out! I often use the wheel for reference (if it's straight!) LOL!
Great job man getting things dialed in....That Go pro mounted on the outside does a great job.
Thank you! I really appreciate that!
Hearing this old dog still kicking is simply the best.
I appreciate that! I agree as well!
Lovin the quality views you’re giving us, keep up the good work
Thank you I really appreciate that! I'll be doing my best!
Fix the mic
But whatever you do keep the camera outside rolling many UA-camrs love to put music over the truck sounds don't do that !
Stay safe
I will be doing my best to get the mic. I'm going to spend some time testing it before the next video. I really appreciate that! And I don't plan on it, I love the sound of the trucks just as much if not more than you guys! I'll try and you do the same, thank you for watching!
@@Only4Trucks good job buddy thanks for the videos
Yup, fix the mic. Talking inside the cab sounded terrible... otherwise, great video.
@@Only4Trucks A mic in the cab close to the window, but not getting hit with wind works best. Or mount one behind the cab.
Single stack Mack, with a window in the back!!! 😂😂😂❤❤❤❤❤ love your videos driver !!!!!😊
Absolutely! I think I'm gonna be making a shirt and sticker you will love! Thank you for watching I'm glad you enjoy and there's plenty to come!
Those rear ratios may be 417-464 -502 etc they go all the up into the 8-9 s there definitely dual reduction top mount carriers
Hauled coal with a 76’ DM800, slow but oh so steady was that big ol girl. 300 plus, 15 speed and #65k bogies and double frame, what a beast.
You are doing a great, love hearing that Bulldog bark👍👍
I really appreciate that! I love hearing it just as much as you!
You're a badass man. Hope you get the audio issues sorted out.
I really appreciate that! And I will for sure! Just takes a little practice lol
Put a plunger switch on the shift lever to turn the dynatard on and off. The old two speed rear ends used an electric plunger switch. I have them on all my autocars for the jakes Even if you hook up your fuel and clutch pedal switches, it is still super convenient to have.
I didn't know the 2 speed rears used them, that's awesome. We will be fixing it soon!
I agree 100% and yea the older the better! I appreciate that!
On the intake manifold there is a switch that looks like a air governor with 3 lines running to it take them lines off lay them on the intake and watch it smoke when you shift it's called a puffer switch recycles the smoke so it won't smoke so much
That good old truck probably saw more traffic in that one trip from Philadelphia to North Jersey than it did in its whole life in North Dakota.
Hahaha that's hilarious I totally agree!
I have seen momentary switches for a jake mounted on the floor next to the accelerator. Step on the switch to activate the jake, or possibly relocate the switch to the shift lever if wiring the clutch pedal and foot feed is to much of a headache.
I've never seen that before. I'm hoping its not too bad to keep it simple but we will see
We used to pull the throttle lock out just a hair & that aloud the Jake to still work but not stall the engine & not idle the engine up either. You can run all day with the Jake on. Give her a try
It sounds harsh I might just have to try it lol
I'm sure many heads are turning when they seen this truck comes and hear the Jakes❤😂
That truck has class like an old square body Chevy. 👌
Yes sir!
Just found your channel, instantly subscribed, the trucks are awesome and sound awesome, camera views and sound are 👌. From the UK 🇬🇧
Wow thank you that means a lot!
Thats a mean looking bulldog for sure ! Love how its setup for heavy haul with the 3rd axle . Im going to get a superliner somday and restore it i hope
I appreciate that! And I hope you can get one and restore it!
@Only4Trucks I'm a union heavy equipment operator so I got 15 more years and I can retire and do whatever I want , I got my class A cdl in a mack R model when I was 18 and have been hooked on macks ever since
@@rirebel6029 that's awesome man, I hope the next 15 go smooth for you and you can enjoy doing what you want! That's what life is all about
The R sounds wicked under the el structure
I agree!!!
That's awesome, my favorite as well! Yea we will be closing the valves for the water.
When I shifted a 13, I started in low if I was loaded, and started in 1st if I was empty.
Cool video. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you! Thank you for watching and I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Man that is just a old Mack there is not to much you can do it just the nature of the beast😊
I agree! That's what it is
That Bulldog stamped jumper seat is awesome. Was the drivers originally like that?
The drivers was he's, unfortunately it was removed before we got the truck. But I will be modifying the passenger seat to make it a bit more comfy
thumb button on the shifter to shut down the jakes would be leally handy. Super easy to wire in.
I agree 100%
Mane can’t wait to get on the road , move some stuff around and disturb the peace 😁
I hear that!
Nice perspective with the camera work
Sounds awesome
Thank you I really appreciate that!
That’s rebar ! Thought u was puking REALSTEEL!! 😂😂. Imjusplayin
Hahahahaha that's awesome! Thank you for watching!
Threading the needle in the site. Nice driving
I appreciate that, I learned from the best
Dad hauled Bethlehem's finest I beams for Horwith steel, one time I got to ride along in a R ,300 5spd only truck I ever rode in that pulled port Jervis at 45 mph 1 downshift and she pulled.
That's awesome! I love the on downshift! Bethlehem is nice and local too!
Mack sounds great
P.S. try checking out some of the mechanical issue that you mentioned before your next journey to be on safe Have A Good One God Bless !
I will be for sure. Along with a lot of other changes being made and thank you!
R Macks are amazing trucks truly work horses but sadly they don't make them the same.
What camera were you using to record outside?
Thank you! I agree! And I use a go pro hero 7 currently
my god that thing growls like a beast. this is why i named my dog Mack. as far as driving goes do u like it more than the 1984 ford? great video. i hope sealing the cab wont take too much effort.
It really does! And I like them both for certain reasons so I would have to choose which one I'm driving depending on the day, but I may love them equally it's really tough to say. And it shouldn't be too much effort to seal the cab
That exhaust is like music to my ears😂, great video bro👍
Hahaha thank you! I really appreciate that!
I hear that man, I appreciate the knowledge! And they definitely hmarr hard to come by. And I agree about the pump
Dam truck will run 4ever
Nice looking and sounding truck, for sure!
Thank you I agree!
8:00 the best sound
Ive heard Macks arent the most comfortable ride. But man love the sound of that truck and watching that black smoke role! I hope you pass a lot of electric cars. Little do they know your making a whole lot less impact on the environment then they are.
They aren't but they are definitely work horses! And thank you I appreciate that! Hahahah I agree with you!
Sounds great
i guess hat mic baited me from 2 videos ago... unless its the mic itself and there is a gain control maybe through an app or something... idk.. good luck figuring this thing out xD
Hahaha I'll be getting it right soon! I'll be testing it before using and posting the next video
Ouch man that's rough and thank you, and the 79 with the tri pled sounds super cool!
Now that's a machine!!!!
Great video totally enjoyed the watch
Thank you! I really appreciate that!
You keep forgetting your sunglasses LoL.
God damn that Mack can haul. Can pick up speed very quickly. Watching you down shift and use the jack switch is as close as using a twin stick shifter. Putting your arm thru the steering and shift up or down. Great backing at the end their. 10/10
One thing I'm happy about this mack, It have the original mack Engine.. and not those Volvo type engine.
Call me picky but the upside down steering g wheel would drive me crazy!
Is there any engine sounds better than a old mack truck ? Poor old girl was lost up in North Dakota ! She wanted to come back home to the Jersey Turnpike. She's beautiful.
I couldn't agree more! Thank you!
Your engine brake sounds like its working on one head ,I drove one like that yesterday and the one I drove sounder better when using the jake
I’m at southeast Georgia I know is very far away we use to go New York since 5 years
Oh wow that's awesome. I hope to be trucking through Georgia soon!
Nice truck, shame about the Roadranger
I will for sure! I really appreciate that knowledge as well! It will be fixed before the truck goes back out on the road
Sounds and looks phenomenal 😮💨👌🏼
Thank you! And to think it's not even really polished up! I'm so excited for what's to come of it
Is it a block suspension? It's an 89' it as all normal! The heat is also how they are. Nice rig! Sounds awesome
It is camelback spring suspension, thank you I appreciate that!
Awesome👍👍👍
Use dynamat on the firewall and floor and it'll knock that heat down.
I have something similar on the way from Amazon! Should do me some good, you will be seeing it. Thank you for watching!
Good try out ,, cant kill em R model
For sure!
Just a pointer I'd love to give you is if you put the mic on the neck of your shirt it would work better because I had my mic on my hat like you do and had bad audio then I put it on the neck of the shirt I was wearing and had better audio
Ok I really appreciate that, that will be the first thing I try!
Sweet ride brother!
Thank you!
