  • Tree sounds simple, huh? Well it is, but I'll try to make it a bit more detailed than normal =) It's Thursday again and time for yet another 10 Minute Modeling Challenge. Stay until the end of the video where I'll give some Blender tips as well as show the tree in Unity 2019.3 with High Definition Render Pipeline (HDRP). Oh, in this video I run Blender 2.83 for the first time =) So far, the only difference I've spotted is that they've changed the hotkey for merge vertices from Alt-M to M. But I'll check out what's new properly too.

    note: at 4:55 he seems to have LoopTools on, thats how hes making that circular.
    To turn on: Edit->Preferences, use search to search for loop, click the checkbox.

    This 10 minutes series is really cool. By the way, you may be aware of other youtubers doing these kind of challenges as well (mainly about drawing). What do you think about doing a 1 minute and 1 hour version too? (or less than one hour if you are low on free time). The 1 minute is just for fun, of course, but the 1 hour is to show how polished a model can be if you spend some more time on it.
    Oh, and the "E to extrude, S to scale" would be a great motif/theme for the playlist intro... :-)

    @6:47, I could not get it to move like he moves it. Hes doing some serious sleight of hand here. Hes doing multiple small movements (I bet at his skill level this is even unconscious).
    He starts with the proportional edit circle huge (the prop edit circle is larger than the screen), (G) then slightly moves it, shrinks prop circle (mousewheel back) so that its top is almost tangent to the top of the green shape, (G) slightly moves it again, shrinks is (mousewheel back) and moves it once more.
    If you do not get those wavy curves at the bottom of the deformation on the 1st step, you wont get them. His 2nd and 3rd movement expand those wavy curves.
    Took me a long time to mimick this wizardry. :)

    Do you know how to use creases to mark parts of the subdivision surface as sharp to fix the tear drop tree trunk?

    • @Imphenzia
      @Imphenzia  4 роки тому +1

      Hi, I recognize your nick :) Trying to get through comments today. I usually add a second loopcut riiight at the bottom, you could even do a multi level bevel there to sharpen it up when you subdivide. Hope that helps!

    • @3dpprofessor
      @3dpprofessor 4 роки тому

      @@Imphenzia I mean there's a setting called "crease" that effects the subdivision surface modifier without overly increasing the geometry. Follow these steps:
      * Open Blender
      * Subdivide the default cube a few times (ctrl 3)
      * In edit mode (Tab) select a few edges (2) and crease them with Shift E and moving your mouse
      * You can also set the crease parameter in the Sidebar (N) Item Tab.

    A better approach to build tree leaves. Just put some icospheres on top of the tree then apply subdivision modifier, increase as much as you like, then apply displace modifier and set the texture to be a cloud. then play around with cloud properties and there you go.

    6:45 - This is a little confusing as when you scale down the Icosphere it shows that smooth propotional curve is selected but the effect on yours is anything but smooth? Mine is smooth and I've seen a few others mention in the comments that theirs doesn't look the same either. I've tried with all the other proportional curves and I'm struggling to replicate the same effect. I think I'll just have to manually move the points to create the effect myself as it looks much better than smooth. If anyone knows why this is I'd appreciate a reply!
