Hey this is not an opera song. It is written and composed by freddy, just to show the world, that a "rock" voice can be pure harmony together with a classic voice. The "experiment" to join rock and classic was first born by Freddy Mercury. He was a genius in music and voice. This song is really one of the most beautyful I've ever heard❤
That is exactly what Freddie felt when he heard Montserrat sing!..He was blown away by her celestial voice!..Sadly this two great artists are no longer with us, but their legacy lives on!..thanks to the recordings and videos available for the rest of us and the next generation to love, enjoy and appreciate..❤
Her name is Montserrat Caballe and she was a legendary opera singer (she died in 2018) that I never knew about until I heard her sing in youtube videos with Freddie Mercury who wrote songs for them to sing together. He was in awe of her and she was in awe of him. And they definitely loved each other. I love your reaction to her because I feel the same way. I never enjoyed listening to women singing opera until I heard her voice. There are no words to describe how heavenly her voice is, but like you, I could listen to it forever. And I love the combination of Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Cabell - it's electrifying. Thank you for a wonderful reaction.
I am just very happy that this was put on tape. Montserrat and Freddie loved through music. Plus, she attended the statue of Freddie unveiling and there is tape of that. Both a blessing.
Freddy loved opera and was Monserrat Caballé's fan number one; pronounce her name like Mon-se-'RRat Ca-ba-'ye. She was in the top of the tops of the world of sopranos. They have a good friendship as well. Take a look at she singing "Mio bambino caro", "Carmen" or "Casta Diva". BTW: You don't know you love opera until you attend to one in a theatre. I only met this amazing artist once, but during my career as Stage Technician I've been participating dozens of operas. I've never bored during my shifts. :)
Freddie loved the opera and he loved Montserrat's voice, she was his favorite singer of all time. Freddie had said in an interview that it was a dream of his to sing one of his songs with her. Somehow that message got to Montserrat and it turns out she is quite the Freddie fan. She has her people get in touch with his people and they arranged to meet in her home town of Barcelona. Montserrat was the top soprano in the world at the time and the video of that first meeting was really something. Freddie was not only star struck, he was so nervous. They decided to go into the studio and see if they would be a good match for a duet. Freddie just wanted a tape of her singing with him but after recording one song, Montserrat wanted to do an album. Freddie said well, you just can't turn down the number one Diva in the world so he got busy writing songs for them to do the album Barcelona named for the place they met. The title song was written for the Barcelona Olympics though Freddie knew he would not be alive by that time. The song was indeed played at the Olympics but it was the album version, not live since Freddie had already passed on .Thank you for reacting to this beautiful song.
That is what happened to Freddie. He fell in love with her after seeing her perform. They had a mutual love for each other. A beautiful pair of beautiful souls. Thanks for continuing to find so many Freddie, Queen and Monsey gems. You never disappoint us.
Freddie was SO SO HONORED to be on stage with HER!! Freddie was lonely, and if people couldn't realize that then there's nothing you can say because he loved Mary Austin with alliver's heart. He wrote that song for Mary Austin love of my life, so he. He was confused because of his sexuality, but he was still very, very lonely and a heartbreaking. Why do you think he had so many cats? He was one of the grades that was only here for a moment and he realized it. And he did something about it. He shared himself with the world. God bless him and God bless him.
Freddie loved opera and he thought that Montserrat Caballé had the best voice in opera. It was a dream of Freddie's to sing with her which he shared with his manager, Jim "Miami" Beach. Beach arranged a meeting with the 55-year-old Barcelona-born singer at The Ritz hotel in Barcelona in 1986. Freddie took pianist and arranger Mike Moran with him and they played Caballé a demo recording of a song they had prepared for her called “Exercises In Free Love.” Freddie had sung a version imitating her falsetto delivery. Caballé loved the song and asked if she could sing it at Covent Garden the following week. Freddie admitted he was a bag of nerves about working with Caballé, but she put him immediately at ease, jokingly referring to the Queen frontman as “her Number One.” He called her “my Super Diva.” “She jokes and she swears and she doesn’t take herself too seriously,” said Freddie. “That really thrilled and surprised me, because up until then I had been laboring under the illusion that all great opera singers were stern, aloof, and quite intimidating. But Montserrat was wonderful. I told her I loved her singing and had her albums and asked if she’d heard of me. She told me she enjoyed listening to my music and had Queen albums in her collection, too.” They became good friends and Montserrat Caballé was one of the 35 people who were allowed to attend the Zorasterian funeral ceremony for Freddie which was held three days after his death at the West London Crematorium on the grounds of Kensal Green Cemetery. Freddie's family were devout Zoroastrians.
You definitely have to do Golden Boy. Freddie’s brilliant fusion of opera with rock/gospel/soul. And, don’t forget Barcelona. It was chosen for the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics. Freddie passed in 1991 so was unable to perform it. However, it was still performed during the Opening Ceremony with Montserrat singing and Freddie’s vocals added.
Freddie had this dream to sing with Monserrat and it came true. He wrote several songs for this. She was enthralled with him. What a masterpiece. He opened the door for this beautiful moment for others.
That is the trained voice of a woman with immense vocal talent. Next, you should listen to "Exercises in Free Love" to hear Freddy sing operatic notes with no training whatsoever. As for an opera suggestion, you should seriously listen to "The Magic Flute" by Mozart. I used to sing opera in New York, and found your reaction absolutely beautiful. Your ear for music is stellar. Montserrat was one of a kind, by the way, and her relationship with Freddie (who wrote these songs specifically for her and this performance, I believe) was as special as they both were.
Now you know how Freddie felt about her. He was awestruck. Have you seen the video of their first meeting at a hotel? It was his dream to work with her. He did everything he could to make it happen. They hit it off, instantly, and the rest...is history!!!
LOL. Loved the reaction, thanks! I agree, her breath control is freaking incredible. They did an entire album together that Freddie wrote with Mike Moran and Tim Rice. I too was blown away when I heard her the first time. She is fantastic! Freddie's assistant said the first time they went to see her sing, Freddie's jaw dropped open when she began singing.
They loved each other.. very much… such a pairing!! She was AMAZING (one of the BEST international sopranos during her prime) and he knew it! It blew him away that she was interested in recording with him. You should listen to the entire album.. it’s very much worthwhile! Great reaction.. thanks!
Incidentally, your reactions are a pleasure. You’re open to new musical experiences and I’m so happy for you as you make your discoveries. Enjoy as WE enjoy YOU!
Freddie had a burning desire to have Montsy sing his music. I’m so happy for Freddie that she said YES 🥰 They became wonderful friends and truly loved and respected each other. You must watch The Golden Boy ♥️✌🏼 ( I have always thought the golden boy is Freddie )
I never was an opera fan until this with Freddie. She is a force all her own and together the were just magical. If you want to listen to more of them The Golden Boy and Barcelona is fabulous.
👏👏👏The humble Freddie said in an interview, that you can be operatic, but that doesn't mean you are an opera singer. He was fascinated by the workload that an opera singer has to put into the training the voice.
If you watch Freddie do LOVE OF MY LIFE with Brian May on guitar and Freddie without his shirt you can see his abdominal muscles contract over and over....that is why he has such a great voice....for like an opera singer he sings from the abdomen and diaphragm rather than mid point and upper lungs and throat...
I have never been a big opera fan, but to listen to these to pair up is amazing. Two incredible voices pairing up. Thanks for your reactions. I really do enjoy them.
I'm not an opera fan but I am in awe of opera singers. It is defo worth making the effort to see them sing live, even just once. Our posh neighbours had a garden party to raise funds for cancer research. They had a real opera soprano singing, she was only supported by a piano, but she filled that whole massive garden with her voice. I've never heard the like.
I have never heard this before, but Monserrat Caballe is an outstanding singer and her breath control is amazing. She is one opera soprano I could listen to over and over again.
Montserrat Caballé is well known because her voice is the purest sound we have recordings as humanity. If you are sensitive and listen to her for the first time it can be an overwhelming feeling.
OK, try this: ua-cam.com/video/wvBuCLjByaE/v-deo.html. Caballé was starring as Norma, the main character of a Bellini opera of the same name. That evening of 1974, the cast and crew were performing live at the Orange historical open-air Roman Theater. Yet in the midsts of powerful winds there was Caballé’s pure voice signing “Casta Diva”, despite the winds and over the orchestra one of the most famous arias of the lyrical repertoire. Each time I watch her rendition that evening, I get goosebumps.
Freddie is not focused on singing Opera. Just as Montserrat is not intending to bring us Rock or even Pop. Their objective was to bring us a collaboration --- of fantastic music. Didn't they do it! Never meant to be a contest, only .a fabulous performance. Listen/see them sing their hit album "Barcelona" and all the tracks. It's glorious entertainment from two entertaining legends.
Have you watched the whole program La Nit with their song, Barcelona? This is part of that 18 to 20 minute entire program. You will love it. Freddie wrote every single song and more.
Here for Freddy but my job her voice is perfection. First heard of her singing Barcelona and the first now she sang before it even got started took my breath away. A voice from the heavens. And sadly now, it seems to be back with them.
As you said "This is what I do"..........she was awesome. Freddy is always superb and the two of them cement a spectacular event. Well done. TooBlunt, excellent presentation/review!!!
In an interview she says while performing this she saw his eyes “shining with tears” and grabbed his hand. He already had been diagnosed and was probably pondering his fate. My heart breaks!
Freddie and Montserrat became great friends. She was asked him to create a song for her city Barcelona which was so great it was chosen for the Barcelona year of the Olympics. Sadly died before this happened. Montserrat always said that Freddie gave her the reason to avoid the constraints of classic opera, and sing with freedom. Now both have died. R.I.P. Review “Barcelona”. Amazing
I think the most beautiful aria I've listened ever is "Casta Diva" sung by Montserrat Caballé in 1974. It's easy to find in UA-cam. Absolutely breathtaking.
My mother listens mainly to classical music and opera and I always hated it. Especially female opera singing. But I always loved the collaboration of Monserrat and Freddy. Probably because you can feel both their passion and Monserrats facial expressions show pure joy. It's beautiful! Grüße aus Deutschland.
An absolute Genius! Loved by many. Best in world. I think she loved him. She sounding like an angel how blessed we were to experience such beauty. Good luck.
Queen wrote the soundtrack for the movie Highlander. Some great songs came from that. You must hear "Who Wants to Live Forever" and "A Kind of Magic" I believe both were live at Wembly Stadium July 1986!
Monserrat Caballé is an opera singer like there is one or two every century... So I am not surprised of your reaction ! Her voice control is just heavenly...As to Freddy , he of course was a great songwriter, and a very good performer, so much so, that it is very difficult to imagine this song performed by another duet...Even with two talented singers , a rock singer, and a soprano..It won' t come out the same. As to Monserrat looking at Freddy, I wouldn't t read too much into that on a personal level. For one thing, Monserrat grew up on an opera theater, where acting is an intrinsic part of the performance, and she well knew how to do that. This said, Monserrat and Mercury, paved the way , for this kind of mixed voices performance, which was taken to a new level by Pavarotti and Friends...
I'm glad you were finally introduced to to the 8:38 world of Freddie Mercury.. He orchestrated this union wrote the songs, and put on a phenomenal performance, all while being sick. This was his dream and together they made it happen. We as fans are so lucky to have been part of this. Freddie's vision came to fruition and opened the door for other such collaborations....None will ever be as powerful as this.
Yes, this was a match made in heaven... you may want to check out the entire album they did together, "BARCELONA", many fantastic songs... also, She, Mont-sir-rot Caw-bal-yea, sang a beautiful song at Freddie's funeral, something about roses... it was in her native language, Spanish.... thanks for another great reaction... blessings.
Love Freddie his voice is unmatched ....but hers ....her voice stole it like it captures you and you just cannot NOT stop and just listen. And that's why Freddy loved her so much!
I had a privilige to listen to Monsterrat Caballe live together with her dougther. Her singing is perfection of voice control one of best female opera singers ever for me personaly way better than even Maria Callas ever was. The control of her voice is out of this world and everybody who sings knows that. She had great respect for Fredy Mercury and they created some magical moments together. Not many opera singers can sing outside opera she could.
You used to live near Miami I think, did you move to North Carolina. If you're not far from Charlotte, there may be a live theatre venue there where you could experience opera or musicals like Phantom of the Opera, which I have seen in person twice with each performance unique. You could search locally where you are to find places like Ovens Auditorium, Levine Center for the Arts, Booth Playhouse or others. Contacting one or more of them, letting someone know about your interest, you might get some interesting offers, or insight into events or shows coming soon. If you're not in Charlotte, I'm sure you can find things in your area.
His voice was raw talent and beautiful, she was sonic and pure. What a wonderful collaboration they had. Thank god we have the technology to record a moment in history like this!
If you want to explore more opera, Luciano Pavarotti's version of "Nessun Dorma" is spectacular - he's rated as one of the top tenors of all time. What a voice!
She was the best soprano on the world , “The Superba” , her voice like a cristal . Freddie loves her voice , and would sing with her, she accept and both was better friends until the end . Freddie makes “Barcelona” specifically for she .
I was fifteen years old that day. I perfectly remember the excitement over the concert and the fact that the city was chosen for the next Olympic Games in 1992. That concert was celebrated for it. From the base of the Venetian towers I could see this masterpiece. Today, when I walk by the fountains I can feel the same magic as that day. I cried when Freddy died, for the end of Queen and for never seeing that duo again at the Olympic opening show with our Montserrat and our city in the background. By the way, I recommend listening to the entire "Barcelona" album... I've loved it all my life...Thank yoy for remember them!
You should listen to Barcelona as well. That song goes so well witth their voices. You could also try the entire Barcelona album. You won't be dissapointed.
So beautiful .. Freddie & Mike Moran wrote the music & elicited the talents of Sir Tim Rice to write the lyrics for The Golden Boy (my fav) and The Fallen Priest from the Barcelona album! Goosebumps!!
This entire show and album is just so so magical. She passed as well in 2018. And now they sing together in the heavens again. They genuinely loved each other and had respect for each others crafts. She was one of the few people who was invited to see Freddie at his bedside just days before he passed away. We are so blessed they left us with this beautiful piece of art.
I'm hoping they are singing together in heaven. 2 absolute legends.

beautiful reaction. and freddie knew he was dying at the time, too. Now we see why Freddie thought Montserrat was the greatest singer on Earth.

The entire album is gorgeous!
Freddie and Montsy had such affection for each other...she was his favorite opera singer
Ella es Montserrat Caballé. La cantante de ópera más famosa que hemos tenido en España, Freddie Mercury era su admirador.
Freddie loved the opera and he loved Montserrat's voice, she was his favorite singer of all time. Freddie had said in an interview that it was a dream of his to sing one of his songs with her. They had a beautiful relationship with a genuine love for each other can you imagine them both singing with angels
The beauty of it...
Yes. I can and look forward to hearing them sing high praises to God in Heaven 🙏❤
The most beautiful thing about opera is you don't need to understand a word. The emotions of the voice and music tranfers you to another dimension.
Just close your eyes and feel where it takes you!

Thank you for putting into words my reaction to this reaction. He really does have a "stellar ear."
Magic Flute is also amazing, and Handel's operas, I love them greatly.
Your first comment - the best.
Nice reaction!
Now you know how Freddie felt about her. He was awestruck.
Have you seen the video of their first meeting at a hotel? It was his dream to work with her. He did everything he could to make it happen. They hit it off, instantly, and the rest...is history!!!

Yeah and bring us with you!!! 😆
Incidentally, your reactions are a pleasure. You’re open to new musical experiences and I’m so happy for you as you make your discoveries. Enjoy as WE enjoy YOU!
She is awesome isn't she? We all knew Freddie's talent, but loving his music brings us non-opera people to enjoy hers.
So much love and respect for this man and his memory. Great reaction!
Golden boy & Barcelona!! Magic!!🌻🇬🇧🌻
And la japonaise
They sing barcelona together ❤️ breathtaking
You should listen to Barcelona and the entire album
Freddie Mercury wrote this. Amazing 👍
Another beauty from this album you must hear is Ensueno. You will be emotional.
Freddie was a Montserrat Caballé fan
Guide me Home is the first part of this song, also very beautiful
I have never been a big opera fan, but to listen to these to pair up is amazing. Two incredible voices pairing up. Thanks for your reactions. I really do enjoy them.
I'm not an opera fan but I am in awe of opera singers. It is defo worth making the effort to see them sing live, even just once. Our posh neighbours had a garden party to raise funds for cancer research. They had a real opera soprano singing, she was only supported by a piano, but she filled that whole massive garden with her voice. I've never heard the like.
check out Freddie's solo Exercises in free love, it was his impersonation of Montserrat"s vocal style.
Indeed. When I heard her “Casta Diva” for the first time, I cried in the middle of a large Toronto record store.
OK, try this: ua-cam.com/video/wvBuCLjByaE/v-deo.html. Caballé was starring as Norma, the main character of a Bellini opera of the same name. For me that performance is the cultural peak of humanity. xD Like we all went down hill since then haha

Wanna hear Freddie's operatic vocals listen to EXERCISES IN FREE LOVE
Then do Ensueno right after!
I love the way he steps back a step and bows his head just as her voice crescendos into that roof lifting note.
Freddie is a true Legion
I just love your comments
I loved Barcelona, but this was my favourite duet of theirs.
Here for Freddy but my job her voice is perfection. First heard of her singing Barcelona and the first now she sang before it even got started took my breath away. A voice from the heavens. And sadly now, it seems to be back with them.
Check out their classic duet BARCELONA and then their duet THE GOLDEN BOY. You will be enchanted.
I love your heart felt reaction😊🙏🏻
As you said "This is what I do"..........she was awesome. Freddy is always superb and the two of them cement a spectacular event. Well done. TooBlunt, excellent presentation/review!!!

Came back and watched this again. Goosebumps all over, my goodness!
Freddie wrote a whole album called “Barcelona” for the Teo of Them - at her request.
I think the most beautiful aria I've listened ever is "Casta Diva" sung by Montserrat Caballé in 1974. It's easy to find in UA-cam. Absolutely breathtaking.
THIS makes me love opera..never thought I would make that statement.😳❤️
Witnessing beauty... It's breathtaking. I love the look on your face. She like Freddie was one of a kind. 💕
My mother listens mainly to classical music and opera and I always hated it. Especially female opera singing. But I always loved the collaboration of Monserrat and Freddy. Probably because you can feel both their passion and Monserrats facial expressions show pure joy. It's beautiful!

An absolute Genius! Loved by many. Best in world. I think she loved him.
She sounding like an angel how blessed we were to experience such beauty. Good luck.
Great reaction as always. You must listen to the golden boy by this amazing duo xx
Did you guys all quit? Am I really a year too late? Anyway ... thanks for showing queen to a new generation
Queen wrote the soundtrack for the movie Highlander. Some great songs came from that. You must hear "Who Wants to Live Forever" and "A Kind of Magic" I believe both were live at Wembly Stadium July 1986!

Listen to Barcelona with Freddie and Monsi. They used it in the 1992 Barcelona Olympics. Sadly, Freddie had already died in 1991.

I love how you get the feeling of all the music (Freddie is still the ultimate Legends) .... But you get the soul of people. Thank you.
check out her and Freddie in the song BARCELONA....Freddie wrote 11 songs for their concert
Love Freddie his voice is unmatched ....but hers ....her voice stole it like it captures you and you just cannot NOT stop and just listen.
And that's why Freddy loved her so much!
Freddie Mercury & Monserrat Caballe became incredible friends. You should listen to "Barcelona"
A pair.of beautiful songs birds 😍
I’m a big opera fan and also a Queen fan. If it speaks to your soul; it’s real.
Golden boy & Barcelona…….amazing!!🌻🇬🇧🌻
I had a privilige to listen to Monsterrat Caballe live together with her dougther. Her singing is perfection of voice control one of best female opera singers ever for me personaly way better than even Maria Callas ever was. The control of her voice is out of this world and everybody who sings knows that.
She had great respect for Fredy Mercury and they created some magical moments together. Not many opera singers can sing outside opera she could.
She was Freddies Idol..he loved her so much..as a singer and friend..
I love your commentary👍🏻
This is hearing angels singing!
Check out The Golden Boy next, it’ll knock your socks off
You used to live near Miami I think, did you move to North Carolina.
LOVE thist! Love seeing young people discover Freddie, opera, or Montserrat Cabballe.
You need to listen to them do Barcelona
His voice was raw talent and beautiful, she was sonic and pure. What a wonderful collaboration they had. Thank god we have the technology to record a moment in history like this!
Pure soulmate love.
If you want to explore more opera, Luciano Pavarotti's version of "Nessun Dorma" is spectacular - he's rated as one of the top tenors of all time. What a voice!
Yes yes yes, I cry every time I watch it 😢❤
They were magnetic together !
It gives me goose bumps!!
They were very good friends they adored. Each other.
I do believe she was truly into him then and there. What a musical romance.
Keep in mind that Caballe would do this for a two-hour opera, night after night...while acting a part.
He was amazing ❤️
Barcelona!
Montsy once sang a high b that lasted 16 seconds! Amazing!
The best soprano ever 😂
Their best song together was Barcelona.
