  • This is another collaboration between Freddie Mercury & Montserrat Caballé, called "How Can I Go On". It's really amazing the level of artistic vision to put these two together.

@@CoachCastTV one thing about this announcement event for the Barcelona Olympics (1992) is that Freddie participated with a problem in one of his legs, consequence of AIDs. All the lyrics on his solo album and on Queen's last albums, from 1987 to 1991 (including the later album Made in Heaven, 1995, the vocals were recorded during the Innuendo period) contain obscure lyrics (mostly) about death. I didn't care much about the lyrics at the time but we felt the heavy atmosphere in the music (they passed that on).
And a detail that goes unnoticed by most in "The show must go on", only with headphones you can hear it well in the album version (Innuendo), the song is a funeral march, its rhythm (they did it on purpose). Even if the person doesn't care about the lyrics, they feel that the song is about death (because the sound), although Brian later denied it saying it was about a clown (they adapted it).

I think this was Freddie's last live performance and is therefore so very poignant. I read that Montserrat said 'While he was singing I noticed his eyes shiny with tears. I gave him my hand, he clasped it. It was clear he was aware of his own fate. It was his goodbye at least to the stage'💔

They both were Artists, not only 2 singers from different musical fields.
“People think of Freddie only as a rock singer but he was a great musician, a very modest one. Over dinner at his home one night I told him I loved Chopin’s impromptu. He just sat at the piano and played it. We were there until 6 o’clock in the morning." - Montserrat

The song is so beautiful and the lyrics are so sad. 😢
Montserrat said that she could see tears in Freddie's eyes during their performance and she gave him her hand to pull him out of his emotions. That was the moment he was truly aware of his fate ... 💔

First of all, a huge THANK YOU to both of you for consistently sticking by the Queen army. So many times, new reactors will begin their channel with Queen simply to grow their channel. They know that Queen fans will come. But their selections will be random and they will gloss over the selection without actually getting to know the band that we all know and love. You haven't done that. Your curiosity about Queen as a whole - and now your vast knowledge about each member of this incredible band - speaks volumes about both of you. I know that I speak for many others who appreciate the vast amount of time and energy you both have given to Queen as well as other bands on your channel. Besides, you have introduced me and others to music that I would not normally select so its been a learning experience fo me as well. Thank you from me - a long time subscriber!
You are so correct when you described what Queen meant to each member of this band who stuck by each other through all the ups and downs for 20+ years. You now know how difficult it was for them. As Freddie says in "We Are the Champions" - "it was not a bed of roses". But they knew what Queen meant to each of them. They never took each other for granted and they didn't get lazy about the music they composed and produced. Whether or not any one song written by a band member was popular or even met with the approval of the other band members, each song was given their precise attention to detail both lyrically and instrumentally. As you so aptly said, to do this on a continuous basis with the same members of the band for over 20 years is almost unheard of in any genre but especially in the overall genre of rock music. Thanks again Mr. and Mrs. Coach. BRAVO!!

They are both very talented. If you listen closely to the song, it is emotional and meaningful. Two great voices melding together to create a beautiful performance (Freddie and Montserrat, not you two 😆) Another great analysis and I agree with your experience of some group followers. As it may have already been pointed out by other commenters, John Deacon was the guest bass player on this song. Even though he didn't have a solo career, all of his bandmates brought him in on specific songs that needed that specific style, which was quite unique. It's not too prominent but it adds a lot to the arrangement.
Regarding the sung/whispered duet throughout the second chorus, rumour has it that when she heard the recording she started tearing up when it came to that part, as she found it so beautiful. Can't blame her!

Luciano Pavarotti collaborated with many, many rock- and popstars such as Brian May/Queen, James Brown, Celine Dion, Bryan Adams, Tracy Chapman, Eurythmics, and so on. I was also zero Opera. But always very interested in certain heavy-metal styles. And one day by accident I stombled over the music of Vivaldi (for example VIVALDI // 'Juditha triumphans, RV 644: Air Armatae face et anguibus' by Jupiter). Just if you listen to the beginning you notice how metal and classic share so much in common. Over the years I came in contact more and more with opera and discovered how beautiful it is. I am everything but a opera-expert. But I really love to discover it.

Pavarotti was very critical of their collaboration. He said many harsh things about Freddie. Montserrat also received a lot of negativity from her opera peers.
But Freddie and Montsy were pioneers and stood strong behind their work. They knew that what they were doing together was first and foremost beautiful music ...
      And they were right.

Mr. Coach and Coach, you are truly Queenies (for a long time now). ❤❤
Freddie and Montsy are two out of this world vocals and souls.
There is a story about the whole Barcelona album they made together. Jim Beach (Queen's and Freddie's lawyer) told: "Freddie's first solo album Mr. Bad Guy didn't chart and sell so well as we expected. Freddie really didn't have any time to promote it. After that guys from the label company asked what was the next project and we told them that Freddie will do a collaboration with another singer. They were intrigued but when they heard that he will sing together with an opera diva , they panicked. Eventually they were in such disbelief that they paid us to leave the contract." 😮😮
Oh, boy, how they were mistaken! 😂😂😂 😂
Barcelona album went through the roof ... But yes, it was the first collaboration between rock star and an opera diva but it pushed the boundaries....
I just pray that Freddie and Montsy are singing together in Heaven. ❤❤

Thanks so much! We're not looking forward to it either, but we're purging a lot of stuff we don't want to take with us and it feels strangely liberating. I think we've taken 5 large loads to the homeless mission here in town.

@@CoachCastTV Good for you. I've been actively donating for a year to a friend who takes in the homeless. As one who hates change, I wish I could find it liberating, but it eases the transition into widowhood and delightful to help others. Here's to both our trips being nice and smooth!

one more comment to make it an even 90, it is not really true Queen fans adore everything done by Queen members. It is more true in freddie's 2 solo albums and projects beacuse naturally it is freddie. there are also some great remixes done to some of his songs right after his death, in 1992 and 1993 that fans love.
Roger made maybe 6 solo albims plus 2 more albims with his band the cross, and I can assure you a very small number of Queen fans know thses albums. however the 1992 first solo Brian May album is a little better recieved. though he did do a collaboraion project in 1983. so we are definately selective in our solo projects support. but we never say oh this roger is now shiit. we always have the respect and the reason is Queen. they are 4 super mega musicainas. both in writing and in playing skills and this unit is unique in world music. the beatls did have 3 stars but they were emrging from the band after it gor disbanded. they really had 2 main leaderes. there is no one more band in the world with 3 such exraordinary characters that can all sing that well and did 15 albims togehter being the biggest band in the world. it just don't happen. this is why we have such huge respect to the artistry, the singing, the songs and the shows and even the solo projects.
Also, most great bands have dissbanded. Queen lost freddie who died. so we all have this sentiment of morning.. of feeling we lost sth. so again this is a unique case and I guess some nirvana fans are a bit like us in that way.

No doubt you are correct about the solo album stuff from the guys not being as popular, but as you said, Queen fans never criticize or talk poorly about the members, and that is a refreshing change from some other fanbases.

You guys needs to have a look a Rogers career away from Queen, I recommend "cowboys and indians"with his band "the cross"or his solo effort "say its not true" with guitar legend Jeff Beck.

We appreciate that. There are a few ways. The best for passing the highest percentage to the content creator is BuyMeACoffee buymeacoffee.com/coachcasttb/c/10212621?uid=4449127
We appreciate your generosity, although it certainly isn't necessary, but we're always humbled when people choose to donate. 😁 It is baffling, on a side note, how the copyright holders rarely if ever allow the reactor to be paid, despite all the great promotion that these types of channels do for their content. Every now and then there are ones you can monetize. Never a single Queen video, though. Should you pursue your reaction channel, best of luck, and just realize it's not the type of channel that will likely generate much income unless you become very, very large.
But it's great fun. Our goal wasn't the money anyway, it was to have fun doing something together, and to leave something for our family to remember us by, since my parents died so young (50's) you just never know when you'll no longer be here. In any case...thank you!
