Nintendo is doing everything in their power to make this DLC more than just tracks. I mean it started with small things like faster item box respawns, but that quickly shifted to what's basically modded items and now they’re making it so anyone can compete with top players no matter what combo they want to use. This game is headed in the right direction and despite Wave 5 and 6 not being a thing yet, it's definitely established itself as the true "Deluxe" version it always should have been!

I've never found the Waluigi/Wild Wiggler spammed as bad as the Funky Kong/Bowser Bike in Wii, but more character (and kart) diversity is definitely needed regardless!

In Worldwide lobbies, Japan has shifted over to Rosalina/King Boo/Link on the Cat Cruiser/Teddy Buggy and Roller/Sponge wheels. It's crazy how fast the meta's changed.
Even there I have seen more varety now however, in my short time at least. Some lightweight and medium weight chars were present too. This balance update was insanely good.
I’ve always played with my favorites instead of the meta so I’m glad to see with the update that more people will feel comfortable doing the same. I’m very excited to see some wacky combos online again after I finish the grandprixs of the new cups

i dont even play mk8 deluxe but the fact that the new meta (seemingly) allows people to finally play their faves without feeling like theyre throwing is nice!
I think it looks safe to say that even if there is technically a new meta, the playing field is more even than it was. It’ll still be viable to use Roy, DK online after this, just not as much of a no-brainer clear cut choice as before. Hopefully we see maybe a wee bit more character diversity online now.
Wait I use play as Mario standard kart back when I played DS and Wii to give my self a challenge over picking a overpowered advantage point that ruins the fun.
One thing I like about this is that while it did make light characters more viable, it didn’t completely destroy the heavier characters and I’m still probably going to run my classic Morton Mr Scooty combo
Well, the full standard combo IS better than the "meta" combo on Toad Circuit because it's Toad Circuit. Both builds are optimized in terms of Pareto efficiency (which means you can't increase one stat without decreasing the other) when it comes to mini turbo and ground speed. Meta combo is 16 MT and 10 Speed, while full standard is 13 MT and 13 Speed. So yeah, on a track like Toad Circuit where there are lot of straight lines, full standard has a huge +3 advantage on speed.
Make no mistake. The rollers is still meta for sure. But it’s definitely good to see new setups emerging. It was pretty boring seeing Wild Wigglers all the time. But I’m completely content sticking to the pipe frame setup. Never lets me down 💯💯
@@dogyX3 The setup I’ve been using before the patch hasn’t felt any different. I still win races easily with the same setup. But since this patch is brand new, we don’t know the full extent just yet. Time will tell
I always ran an Isabelle, Mercedes racer and rollers and i played wave 4 the first time and immediately noticed a huge performance difference. I’m glad they’re balancing, it was much needed
Honestly, I'm so happy about this patch. It's such a shame whenever you're using your favorite characters and you lose because of the unbalanced racers and kart combos and this is exactly what MK8D's online mode needed.
You also have to consider that you may not be as good at the game as you think, I played in a lobby a few days ago with 12 japanese players all using waluigi wiggler with daisy on mr scooter bike and I came 1st in 2 of the 3 races all people had 10,000 + points so imo the game wasn't really that unbalanced before pre-patch if you were good at the game

I've been a loyal Mario man in every game from Smash to Mario Kart so to see him get this buff makes me grin the widest grin I've ever had since I first played this series on N64
everything about this newest wave seems good for the game honestly; there was a new shortcut added which could be a sign to come; all the tracks look really good; and stats have been shifted which makes it look like theres a lot more variety which is great

I'm just so excited for Teddy Buggy, Blue Rollers, and King Boo to become even better! I've been ride or die King Boo since MKWii and seeing him become nigh meta is such a treat.
I am so happy about this patch, I am a Link main and while he always was a viable character it was only with a certain type of kart. Now everyone can use any combination they want and still be on a solid middle ground, this really brings back the TRUE customisation side of MK8!
I kind of wish that stats weren't a thing in MK. The only stat I ever focused on was handling because of the obvious reasons of always hitting sharp turns and trying to stay on the track.
The difference now is that the gap isn’t as big. Also now mid weights and even standard tires are a viable option. And Rosalina/bear/rollers isn’t strictly better than standard Mario with default load out because it actually makes trade offs in speed for mini turbo.
I have run some calculation and my prediction would be: - *Characters:* Daisy-Peach-Yoshi-Birdo / Iggy-Luigi or Ludwig-Mario / King Boo-Link-Rosalina seem to be the top contender, sorted from Handling to Speed. Choose the one that suit your playstyle. - *Bodies:* Teddy Buggy-Cat Cruiser are on top. It was already very good before they go that Mini-Turbo boost. It is basically the Wild Wiggler with more Mini Turbo, Weight and non-Ground Handling but lower Off Road. So if you used the Wild Wiggler, go Teddy Buggy. Mr. Scooty and Biddybuggy are also still good, depends if you want more Handling / Acceleration. To be fair, a lot of Bodies are great: the Wild Wiggler and same are great, so is Streetle and same, the Pipe Frame and same, or the Standard Kart and same. - *Wheels:* Roller-Azure Roller are still on top, but not as dominant. Standard-Blue Standard and Cushion-Sponge are decent too. Sure you can go Link - Teddy Buggy - Standard, but Peach - BiddyBuggy - Roller is still great trading Speed for more Handling, Acceleration and Mini-Turbo.
I'm alright with a new "objective best"ish kinda meta forming if that's just how it goes. However, so long as it's actually close like with your Boo vs Mario example, I think that this game will finally be in a healthy spot. So many combos and characters just for Waluigi to be the only one (playing anyone else, even a decent combo, just makes losing sting a little too much regardless of skill) was super lame. If the difference is like just a few milliseconds, and you can compensate your characters strengths and weaknesses with karts like how you SHOULD HAVE from the beginning... MAN I'm excited! I can finally fucking play Yoshi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ive always stuck with the middle weight, pipe frame, roller wheels. It did get annoying facing a whole lobby of meta vehicles, but I would win a lot of them if you were good enough
I love this update. I love to try out new kart combos every race session online, so I always am playing with slightly different stats, but I hate it when everyone else just picks some boring meta. it's not super detrimental, but very noticeable. Hopefully this ends soon & builds stop being objectively better than others in every way
My strategy is Medium Mii, Circut Special, Blue Standard, and Super Glider, I feel like that it's somewhat buffed because I noticed how it has a little more speed.
Now I might actually be able to use Toadette in the badwagon with monster wheels. It always felt like trading fashion for function, but now I can't wait to try to own the road with a bad combo.

First of all, the content creator who made this video must have some kind of direct line to the Mario Kart gods, because the amount of insider knowledge they have is insane. They revealed brand new features that I never even thought were possible in Mario Kart. I mean, I've been playing this game for years and thought I knew everything about it, but boy was I wrong. And let's talk about the editing. It's like a cinematic masterpiece. The way they seamlessly blended real-life footage with in-game footage is beyond impressive. I felt like I was watching a Hollywood blockbuster. The special effects were out of this world. But what really blew me away was the music. The soundtrack was composed specifically for this video, and it's so catchy and memorable that I can't get it out of my head. I even found myself humming it throughout the day. Overall, "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Just Changed Forever" is an absolute must-watch for anyone who calls themselves a Mario Kart fan. You won't regret it. I'm already eagerly anticipating the creator's next video because if it's anything like this one, it's going to be a game-changer.
This video has aged like fine wine my friend. Standard tires, standard glider has changed the game forever. I tried Iggy, Pipe Frame, Standard Tires, Standard Glider and the results blew my mind. I couldn’t believe it how comfortable and crazy fast this combo is. Rollers and Paper Glider is still reliable online for sure. But it’s definitely no longer the only viable kart setup online anymore. Nintendo was not kidding when they said they improved the performance of other characters and kart parts. This patch was a serious game changer 💯💯
I am really hoping that this patch works as intended and there isn't one dominant meta anymore. What I'm worried about is that if a new meta emerges, it would mean that all the time trials before the update got murdered for no reason
I immediately noticed this when I played the new tracks on 200cc with shy guy, bidy buggy, small tires and paper plane that I completely speeded through the tracks and the mini turbo lastet way longer and was much better
THANK YOU NINTENDO! While I want karts parts (and maybe characters) to be a purely cosmetic choice so a lot of "bad" kart bodies get some representation in the game (kinda like how ctr nitro fueled characters could change their stats with the engines, and the rest were only for the looks), this new patch looks great to see a lot of new variety in game when it comes to racing online and in time trials! Now we just need a custom lap option and maaaaaaybe...... a battle course booster pass
wow! i always used to use the teddy car and the light blue rollers because i liked how they looked together (i usually picked either lemmy or dry bones or yoshi because i like those characters) and now that car is meta? thats so cool! :)
Fun side note, If you use king boo, pipe frame, rollers and the plane glider, you get perfectly balanced stats Slightly lower speed then Mario standard everything, but higher everything else.
I only tested out my ‘Orange set’ (Daisy, Sport Bike, Sponge tires and Flower Parachute) and it won the first 3 online matches I’d done since I put the game down competitively 3 years ago. Basically, this update rocks, and I can actually use bikes now. Hell yeah.
This is awesome!! I have been playing Mario Kart for a good week again and I’ve been seeing the waluigis everywhere with that yellow cart but now I’m excited for the present and future. Definitely is gonna be fun to see NEW ways of Competition.

This is real funny because a few days before the update I was actually playing Mario with an all standard Kart. It was really tough keeping up with waluigis and required a lot of item usage but I was usually able to keep top 3 or top 5.
Anything could be used to compete before, the meta has just shifted. So now instead of Waluigi, it's someone else plastered 11 times. (Technically 12, c'mon we all know) Big woop.
finally a mega change! i’ve always used koopa troopa, with gold kart, slick wheels, and gold glider and still will but will be nice to see people use something else
I tend to use Mario + Biddybuggy + Leaf Wheels + Gold Glider. It works pretty well, and if mario in standard kart is doing great, then I'm sure this will be good for me.
Race whatever kart and character you want. Nothing feels better than beating a lobby full of 'meta' wiggler rollers and buggies in my Shy guy pipe kart slicks combo. So much of the game comes down to knowing the tracks and taking tight corners, but sometimes all it takes is a bit of dumb luck
Okay, after watching this video and using the MK8DX Builder, I am going to predict that middle-weight characters are going to be the new meta characters. Correct me if I am wrong, but middleweight characters have the best mix of stats out of all weight classes in the game. Rollers are still going to be the meta I think, as well as standard bike and all those vehicles. But gliders might change to gliders like gold glider, super glider, etc.... I too am looking forward to see the new meta combos.
Honestly this is awesome, seems like the meta will be way more diverse and you will no longer lose cause your favourite character isn’t viable

Its possible they got indirectly nerfed. It seems mini turbo varies less now, regardless of wheels, meaning there may be some better ones

I'm alright with a new "objective best"ish kinda meta forming if that's just how it goes. However, so long as it's actually close like with your Boo vs Mario example, I think that this game will finally be in a healthy spot. So many combos and characters just for Waluigi to be the only one (playing anyone else, even a decent combo, just makes losing sting a little too much regardless of skill) was super lame. If the difference is like just a few milliseconds, and you can compensate your characters strengths and weaknesses with karts like how you SHOULD HAVE from the beginning... MAN I'm excited! I can finally fucking play Yoshi!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

@@Telmarine55 Wasn't amazing before wave 4, kinda lacking in some of the few benefits of playing a mid-weight at the time since he has a different stat spread. Now you can pretty much play who you want and yoshi actually has some sick combos
I'm happy that the 'meta' is now pretty much everything, if you use your favourite characters strengths properly, you'll be on an even playing field
Ive always stuck with the middle weight, pipe frame, roller wheels. It did get annoying facing a whole lobby of meta vehicles, but I would win a lot of them if you were good enough

I love this update. I love to try out new kart combos every race session online, so I always am playing with slightly different stats, but I hate it when everyone else just picks some boring meta. it's not super detrimental, but very noticeable. Hopefully this ends soon & builds stop being objectively better than others in every way
My strategy is Medium Mii, Circut Special, Blue Standard, and Super Glider, I feel like that it's somewhat buffed because I noticed how it has a little more speed.
As a Toadette and Daisy main this is so exciting to see! I've always loved using the lighter characters.

Oh. My. Gosh. Where do I even begin with this video?! It's safe to say that "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Just Changed Forever" is the most revolutionary video I've seen on UA-cam in my entire life.
First of all, the content creator who made this video must have some kind of direct line to the Mario Kart gods, because the amount of insider knowledge they have is insane. They revealed brand new features that I never even thought were possible in Mario Kart. I mean, I've been playing this game for years and thought I knew everything about it, but boy was I wrong.
And let's talk about the editing. It's like a cinematic masterpiece. The way they seamlessly blended real-life footage with in-game footage is beyond impressive. I felt like I was watching a Hollywood blockbuster. The special effects were out of this world.
But what really blew me away was the music. The soundtrack was composed specifically for this video, and it's so catchy and memorable that I can't get it out of my head. I even found myself humming it throughout the day.
Overall, "Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Just Changed Forever" is an absolute must-watch for anyone who calls themselves a Mario Kart fan. You won't regret it. I'm already eagerly anticipating the creator's next video because if it's anything like this one, it's going to be a game-changer.
Regardless of meta, as long as your kart build isn't absolutely terrible, it seems you can play with what you want without a massive disadvantage

This video has aged like fine wine my friend. Standard tires, standard glider has changed the game forever. I tried Iggy, Pipe Frame, Standard Tires, Standard Glider and the results blew my mind. I couldn’t believe it how comfortable and crazy fast this combo is. Rollers and Paper Glider is still reliable online for sure. But it’s definitely no longer the only viable kart setup online anymore. Nintendo was not kidding when they said they improved the performance of other characters and kart parts. This patch was a serious game changer 💯💯

I am really hoping that this patch works as intended and there isn't one dominant meta anymore. What I'm worried about is that if a new meta emerges, it would mean that all the time trials before the update got murdered for no reason
A meta will ultimatly be found but I think the goal here was to make sure that the futur meta is not just overpowered and much more fair

I immediately noticed this when I played the new tracks on 200cc with shy guy, bidy buggy, small tires and paper plane that I completely speeded through the tracks and the mini turbo lastet way longer and was much better

While I want karts parts (and maybe characters) to be a purely cosmetic choice so a lot of "bad" kart bodies get some representation in the game (kinda like how ctr nitro fueled characters could change their stats with the engines, and the rest were only for the looks), this new patch looks great to see a lot of new variety in game when it comes to racing online and in time trials!
Now we just need a custom lap option and maaaaaaybe......

I only tested out my ‘Orange set’ (Daisy, Sport Bike, Sponge tires and Flower Parachute) and it won the first 3 online matches I’d done since I put the game down competitively 3 years ago.
Basically, this update rocks, and I can actually use bikes now. Hell yeah.

This is real funny because a few days before the update I was actually playing Mario with an all standard Kart. It was really tough keeping up with waluigis and required a lot of item usage but I was usually able to keep top 3 or top 5.
Anything could be used to compete before, the meta has just shifted. So now instead of Waluigi, it's someone else plastered 11 times. (Technically 12, c'mon we all know)

A really good combo for me, link + standard hyrule set. His drifts, handling and turbos are insane, at least in 200cc.

I tend to use Mario + Biddybuggy + Leaf Wheels + Gold Glider. It works pretty well, and if mario in standard kart is doing great, then I'm sure this will be good for me.
Nice to hear the Beddy Buggy and Cat Car were buffed this patch. I loved racing with Light Blue Yoshi and Pink Shy Guy respectively.

Race whatever kart and character you want. Nothing feels better than beating a lobby full of 'meta' wiggler rollers and buggies in my Shy guy pipe kart slicks combo. So much of the game comes down to knowing the tracks and taking tight corners, but sometimes all it takes is a bit of dumb luck

Okay, after watching this video and using the MK8DX Builder, I am going to predict that middle-weight characters are going to be the new meta characters. Correct me if I am wrong, but middleweight characters have the best mix of stats out of all weight classes in the game. Rollers are still going to be the meta I think, as well as standard bike and all those vehicles. But gliders might change to gliders like gold glider, super glider, etc.... I too am looking forward to see the new meta combos.
