The Raw Power SG is 22 frets as well - I was incorrect! Are there any other all maple Gibsons you can think of?

Austin, it appears that the stop bar inserts are nickle or chrome, that would typically indicate it didn't leave the factory with the gold hardware.
The all maple Gibby that first comes to mind is that ridiculously over the top 1970s The Les Paul.
I own two 2011 L6S which are all maple, including 24 fret baked maple fingerboards. I love them.
The late 70s RD Customs were all maple as well
Can you please tell me what material the case shroud is made and if it's more than one ply.
Odds of a headstock breaks I would assume are greatly diminished.
Why?
@@BillyZakk material
Agree.. you would think it would be stronger, but…
There are plenty of Les Paul deluxe’s made like this from late 70s and early 80s with headstock breaks.
The only thing that really helps prevent a headstock break is a volute
@@BillyZakk I also agree
It'd be awesome to put the hot pickups from early 00s Raw Power Les Paul into this all maple Raw Power Les Paul
I remember trying a bunch of these in stores when they came out, and I loved the way they sounded. The natural one was the best of the lot, though, because they painted the back of the neck on all of the other colours, which completely ruins the feel of that lacquered maple.
Also, the natural versions had translucent black pick guards, so it might be hard to find a replacement if you didn’t get the original in the box (that may have only been the sg, though).
The could have had more maple by leaving the headstock bare with black logo. I'd still play the hell outta this
I agree, a maple headstock would have looked great with a black Gibson logo/font
That might be a little too much. It would look like something someone made from home Depot plywood.
How bout maple headstock and MOP logo to match the fret markers
Roast all the maple prior to assembly. This is a beautiful instrument.
Fender does not have a maple fret board finish issue why would gibson have an issue?
This is a Gibson I would buy.
If I could afford it.
I only use maple fretboard Fenders…
No particular reason why.
I just like it.
The fact that Gibson does not do maple… and charges lots of money for something I don’t want keeps me from pulling the trigger.
But alas…
Gibson (or the aftermarket) is probably charging WAY too much for it.
So I’ll probably just keep using Fenders and enjoying the fact that they produce what I want for a price I can afford.
But it’s nice to dream.👍🎸🥃
I totally agree . I , too , prefer my Fenders with a maple fretboard . 👍
@@christianothesampler2165
👍🎸🥃
My first electric was a black strat copy with a maple board. (My second was a Epiphone Dot Studio… I ended up selling it, but my next was an Ibanez Jet King I with rosewood… I went all rosewood and only recently did I start looking for Maple again (new MIM Fender Player Telecaster (which got bad fret sprout I have to file down ouch!), and that Reverend Trogly reviewed.)
I do have a 90s SG with an Ebony board… that one feels nice, but I haven’t found another one I like yet. Not a fan of Pau Fierro or Richlite.
I only own maple fretboard Fenders too. It just seems right. I have a pink Hello Kitty and a 2007 American Deluxe HSS strat.
They were very affordable (Gibson wise..), 1200$ CAD..
These always reminded me of the old 70s Carvin guitars. Those are some funky guitars, still pretty affordable I think.
I love Carvins. theyre kiesels with an epiphone pricetag
Funny you said that, there is an all maple Carvin on my local Craigslist I’ve been looking at for a while.
An old friend of mine had one of those in the early 80`s. Looked nice, too bad it was a piece of junk.
@@fredfredburger6623 Carvin is Kiesel. They rebranded some years ago, Carvin doesn't exist anymore.
@@Dizzy55555 I’m aware. But Carvins are everywhere on the used market and are 30-50% cheaper on the used market as opposed to kiesel.
Trogly...that marshall is sounding incredible...nice score my man!!!!
Hi Trogly, I enjoy your channel. Just wanted to point one thing out- the frayed edge inside the PU route is not from dull router bits. It's actually a normal consequence of routing through an open pocket. The main (large) PU route is done first and the small deeper cavity on each side is done next. It's obvious in this situation the toolpath of the bit moves clockwise so when the bit moves past the corner in question there's no material there to support it hence the frayed fibers. Notice the frayed corners of each small route are opposite each other. One at 3 the other at 9 o clock from the perspective shown at 6:05 in this vid. The other 2 corners are perfect because the bit, spinning clockwise, is cutting into wood and not into air as it moves past that corner. I hope that made sense 👍
Thanks, Austin, for the info that the "Raw Power" model name was used more than once. I didn't know that. I do slightly remember the all-maple ones. I remember being slightly offended that the classic Les Paul wood recipe was being ignored. I don't really know what I was thinking, because I have no business being a purist. I was convinced that these axes had to be heavy; thanks for putting that misconception to rest.
Back in the day, I would probably not have rocked the Raw Power Les Paul model. These days, I'm more receptive to the concept. Once again, thanks for this great video!
I'd definitely ROCK this axe! Huge sounds in the neck & bridge! Big, noticeable differences among the neck, middle & bridge. Those pups are awsume! Not a huge fan of satin finishes but every other special touch on this axe makes up for it. I'd keep it if I were you, Austin!...Great vid & love that Marshall amp!
I like it, it just reminds me of a kit guitar that someone put together and just sealed it with semigloss and didn’t finish it. But there’s something about it that makes me love it.
So little time, so many guitars. I'm a rank beginner but I'm getting into it. You keep showing these beautiful, different and unique guitars and I want them all. Watching you has even sparked my interest in possibly getting into buying and selling guitars (I'd be way to small to compete against you) as a supplement to my retirement income. I love that all maple Gibson, it's beautiful and unique. I envy you in what your doing your only boss is yourself.
Great video Austin. 👍
that's another gorgeous guitar. I love the natural look a lot.
My Gibson L6 Midnight Special in Yellow Sparkle also has a 3 piece maple neck. What I love about Gibson maple necks is that the inlays are mother of Pearl.. not the boring black dots found on Fenders. The body of the L6 is also solid maple.. these articulate maple tones are completely familiar to me. So if you’re interested in a solid maple Gibson, maybe also check out the L6 Midnight Special.
I love how it sounds, how it looks, are there any with all full if figured maple?
I haven't seen a maple fretboard on a Gibson since my brother's old (and long since traded off) Grabber. It would have been cool if they kept the headstock a natural maple as well. This Les Paul is a perfect example of "Less is more." Or, is that; "LES is more?" 😆 It's so beautiful, you can't really explain it.
Trogly's in the HOUSE!!!

Greg! Greg! Greg!
Would love to own a 70s custom with maple fretboard. Own a 2011 classic custom with a maple fretboard and I love it. Six good numbers and I'll have an original custom with maple 75-78. Great show Trog 🤘🎸👍
They are nice and worth saving for. A very different playing experience with the lacquered maple fingerboard.
My dream guitar the 70s custom with maple fretboard… you have fantastic taste. I hear they are heavy!!!
I have all original 76 blonde beauty, clean fretboard and original low frets are still fine, amazing T-Tops. Gracefully reliced and smells like old furniture. What i really want is a clean Heritage 80 Elite, those are like the best Les Pauls ever made.
@@cornpop6154 I think Trogly has one. Not sure but look into it your 76 sounds amazing. Gotta love that old furniture smell🎸👍
Love the sound through the bluesbreaker
Missed opportunity to use a natural headstock with black text, other than that the natural version of the Raw Power looks fantastic. Skipped on buying the silver one years ago because of how plain it looked.
coil taps are easy peasy if you're up to the task. you just need to fish out the wire splice connecting the two coils together from the pickup. you also might have to remove metal pickup covers and/or tape, do so gently. one you've got the wire connection exposed, just solder an additional signal wire to that point, heat shrink, and re-tape in place. then run the wire with the pickup's other conductors, to a switch of some kind which is also connected to ground. of course this only allows one of the coils and not the other, but its the easiest way. it's a little more complicated to have either coil tapped, it requires a specific 3-way switch and connecting the pickup differently.
Amazed at the comments regarding the Raw Power. When the second batch launched the overall reaction to the guitar was: "you can't sell a Gibson with a maple fretboard!"
What really was the biggest issue with these guitars was the thin finish it has was very prone to chipping, which is why it is probably near to impossible to find a mint second hand version... I have the olive version of the LP and it got finish issues by week 3.
Thanks for keeping these quirky models in the public's eye!
when I first started playing, there were so many of these on the wall of my local guitar shop and I always wanted one, wish I pulled the trigger

Honestly I don't mind maple fretboards, but if you look at the Ibanez RG's from the late 80s with the maple boards, they really do get dirty when they're completely unfinished. It always ends up looking bad. The most finish I'll go with on a fretboard or a neck is a satin finish. I love the natural necks on these because they're probably just more comfortable and easy to play. My biggest pet peeves with Les Pauls' are those really high gloss necks. Especially on the customs. They limit my ability to move around the neck comfortably. That's why I like the maple neck on this. If I ever get an LP custom I'm just gonna sand the neck down so I don't have to fight the neck when I play. It'll look horrendous, but It'll play well.
Man, when they did the raw power line, i was super disappointed because they weren’t a james williamson signature custom. Ngl id love to get one of those cherry burst customs
As a fan of wood grain instruments with no heavy paint or no paint at all this guitar is beautiful.
I have a SG raw power and it is 22 frets and the picture Trogly used to show the 24 frets actually shows 22.
My dream guitar!! That or a 79 with a maple fretboard. So beautiful!! 😍
Bluesbreaker amp sounds great man; I would just suggest a good boost pedal to get a little more creaminess and saturation when you want it.
Hey Trogly I’ve been a long time fan of your channel. I own a 2005 Raw Power Standard that sounds amazing. Took off the EMGs and replaced it with a pair of old T-Tops and it’s a dream. I would love to add a piezo bc it’s so resonant and since I have the battery in the back. I think it’s better than the Studio Raw Power. You rock Trogly!
Kenny, does yours have black or blonde knobs and pick-up rings? I can't get a straight answer on what is original. I have blonde at the moment. It arrived with black.
@@pohsibkcirrag6312 Hey the original definitely has cream/blonde pickup rings and clear/blonde speed knobs with the Zakk Wylde EMGs. Also, the guitar does not have the long tenon neck. Super resonant way underrated Gibson. Hope that helps!
Have a professional wood refinisher fix that satin fret wear. Easy fix to be new looking. Beautiful guitar.
hey Trog how's that Blues breaker working Out for You?
Very bright tonality with all that maple ...sounds cool
So, supposedly the whole draw of the 57 Classic model in itself is that they were “random wound”. I thought they were hand-wound but I’ve never been able to verify that. The point being is that just like the original PAF’s the 57 Classics are supposed to represent that “mystique” of the PAF by having very similar “random” winding so some could be under-wound & be a little weaker while some would be over-wound etc. I think the idea of the 57 Classic Plus, and I could be wrong on this, but I think much like the T (think 498T, 500T etc) the pole pieces are a little wider to match the bridge string spacing compared to that of the neck. While I’m not 100% certain on the previous spec I am 100% certain the Classic Plus are “overwound” compared to that of the 57 Classics. So how could you know if you’re overwinding a Classic Plus is if the idea of the Classics was to be “random windings”? They have a range that use to define the Classics vs that of the Classic Plus pickups. But, that’s likely why you’re getting close to Classic Plus readings in the bridge pickup is that it’s likely a little over-wound like a Classic Plus.
I enjoy your channel tremendously but I've never been a huge Gibson or Les Paul fan (don't get me started on SGs ... sorry) ... but I can now say I have seen a Gibson I desperately want. This is beautiful and would go wonderfully with all my superstrats.
I was just thinking to myself the other day about asking you to do a raw power video. You beat me to the punch. Had the satin white one. But wasn't my cup of tea. Good vid brings back memories
I remember when the raw power standard came out. Love at first sight..
❤️the rare maple necks ! Look mint !
I have one of these in gold finish, great guitar.
Pls review a strandberg guitar!
one of my best sounding guitar is rather suprisingly a melody maker from 10 years ago that has an all maple body and a roasted maple fretboard. i does sound MUCH snappier then my other gibsons.... almost like a telecaster.
seems to be great for high gain stuff as it does not get muddy as quickly as i.e. a les paul
I have the same guitar but for some reason the neck is mahogany otherwise identical. Great guitars with a really beefy neck, transparent pickguard, and great sounding pickups. It took about 3 years to find one at the price I was comfortable paying.
I have the mahogany neck as well. Maybe they ran out of maple? Mine is 2003.
Anybody know exactly what kind of maple it is ? I am from Québec where sugar maple is all around but there are many other kind of maple. Thanks ! Merci.
I think it's rock maple.
Beautiful LP that . Imagine it in Birdseye and Flame . And the Sound . A DEFINITIVE proof about the Timber affecting the Timbre .
i love this guitar
Can definitely hear the fender type jangle.
Amp sounds great!
Love LPRPs - I’ve been hunting the trans black for many moons
Oh wow, so snappy and bright! Even in the neck position. I’d like to hear what the “tonewood is a myth” crowd have to say about these tones…
12:00 Wow, you can see the wood grain through a fiberboard veneer... LOL
Love it! I've wanted an LP with a Maple neck forever!
That seems like a pretty light guitar since it's all maple. My Gibson L-5S which is all Maple as well seems to be a lot heavier than 7 and 1/2 lb. But all in all that is a beautiful Les Paul.
I had one of these in my hands back in the day, and I regret not grabbing one! Maple neck LP's are great!
Why not take one step further and do a natural maple veneer on the headstock instead of the typical black. I do however think it could use a black pickguard.
be awesome with a quilt top! Also Birdseye maple fretboard!
first time hearing the new amp i think it sounds great
this one is really Nice! a keeper in My opinion!
I just got a 2009 raw power sg prototype in honeyburst, it’s got p100’s, and a ball bat neck! The only one that Gibson ever made. I’ve got friends on the inside…. This thing absolutely rips! I’m happy to send pics if you wanna check it out!
Beautiful ' love the bright tones especially through the Bluesbreaker' would definitely replace the black guard. Not mint but still lovely.
Very interesting look, a bare naked LP🤘🏻 Quick question for you. Are the new Les Paul Customs any good? I’ve seen so many negativity around them and the quality!
If the SG version had 24 frets then what are we looking at here at 4:14? Is this NOT a "Raw" and something else instead or did Austin just misspeak? Not trying to call him out I just love a 24-fret SG and the look of this so I'd be curious to hunt one down for my collection.
Looks like I just messed up. Read the 24 fret spec online and didn't verify it. They are 22
I think you are correct King Brutus XXVI
None of the Raw Power SGs I've seen had 24 frets.
@@Trog Thanks, Austin. I hesitated to leave the comment as I didn't want to look like "that" guy but I'm definitely not a Gibson expert and thought you might know something I was missing. ;-)
I wish they did the raw power standard with a maple fretboard. I would prob buy it if they did
I think in this case it would be okay to re-lacquer the fretboard.
Wow, this thing looks amazing!
I own the original 2000 Gibson Les Paul Standard Raw Power it actually comes with 498 T and 490 R pickups
That's bright as he'll in sound
I have an all maple marauder and a raw power standard with emgs. It's a 2005 model.
That's so beautiful and I would love to own it 🥰! I have never heard of these Les Paul's. Really Appreciate it and it's has the "Hey look at me!" vibes. it's a keeper!!🤯🤯
I love maple banjos! This is awesome!
If you’re looking for another guitar that is exclusively one type of wood for everything, Fender is selling an all-rosewood Telecaster these days (chambered rosewood body, and rosewood neck & fretboard). That might be interesting to document.
I watch your show for the history and for you more than for the guitars, not being a big Gibson fan, but, boy howdy this is a sweet Les Paul.
That's a great looking/sounding LP. Learned something new today.......
As someone who did CNC for Gibson during the Henry J era, getting anything news was a happy day;)
I Bought a White One Used and Love it .
Black binding on body and neck with Onyx inlays would of been killer.
The homed depot wood pallet Gibson. Kinda dig it lol
I think the pick guard would help balance the look of the black headstock as well.
Nice looking guitar. Not sure it would be for me. But as always, I learn something.
Thanks
Trogly, i gotta say you are the god of guitar reviews… had this awesome piece in black at my friends as a borrow to him and i had to go get it and play it again. And it’s not only this video. Living in Central Europe I really appreciate your input, however the connection to US guitar market could be better. Maybe we could put together some thoughts?
JFC that title. the algorithm is going to love this one.
Greetings Holstorr
Good evening brother
@@sgt.grinch3299 hells yes it's a good evening. today was a $81k day. I can almost afford a Gibson now.
Very cool guitar. It kind of reminds me of Rickenbacker with al that maple.
I love the one trapezoid.
Looks good, but it would be a pain to make (router on 2" maple, ugh!)
I like everything except the fret dots, I have gotten to despise fret dots and will never build with them again. If it had normal Gibson fret markers (besides only 12th) it would be better. I would have also made fret markers darker.
Serious bite and twang coming from the maple for sure..brightness
There’s a standard for sale close to me, weird this video popped up. All the hardware was changed and it’s players grade, have to check the website see if/what you list this for
Sounds great 👍
Love everything on it, except the block inlay on the 12 fret, so much that it ruins the whole guitar for me. But the cool colorsz the maple fretboard, all cool.
I've always wanted to build a all figured maple lp style guitar and finish it in a caged natural.....
I'm weird I suppose but,I seriously love guitars with a maple neck. To me it feels better than any other wood. For almost 30 + years a painted neck or any finish at all on them has been a full no go.
It definitely sounds different than a regular Les Paul, I like it!
That was pretty kool and sounded great in all positions!!
If I ever do an M2M I really want an LP with a natural maple top with a maple or baked maple fretboard. I've thought about buying an "Old Hickory" because it's pretty close to that and my family are direct descendants of Andrew Jackson's (adopted) children but I've never been in the right position to buy when one came up for sale. If I ever do I would love you to document it Trogly.
Wow ! It's my L6S cousin , without the gold pickups and hardware , its beautiful.
Latta punch. Terry Kath could have used it to step out in front of the brassiness of the Chicago horn section.
there were some transition models with mahogany neck/maple board. real collection item)
