I ve been looking after my Dad for over 2 years i got him diagnosed about a 15 months ago, I believe Dad is in stage 6 moving in to seven, He can walk and talk but his words are all over the place and he says what ever comes to him first, He is unable to hold conversations, But if we put bob Marley on he comes alive dancing and singing, Its really hard at times and im now looking to get support, He sleeps very little which puts a huge amount on me.We will keep dad at home for as long as we can.God bless everyone its a horrible illness.

My dad also suffering from alzheimers. Its so hard to handle him all alone. But i m doing it alone. He doesn't remember me. His speech depends on some broken forgotten words. If he eats himself and bath himself its a blessing. But slowly slowly he forgot how to bath, when to go bath. Anytime in a day and even in night he awakes and starting doing strange things. Its so difficult. I cry lots of time.
Imagine losing all your precious memories about others that you love, and then one day you just see them as people.
I hope this could never happened to anyone this is just by far the worst way to die😭

@@RealValkor alzheimer's isn't as scary as you think it would be for the person affected by it. In media it's often portrayed as people being terrified as they go through life slowly fading away from all their memories when in reality they know what is happening to them and accept the fact and find comfort and knowing that they have supportive people around them and still retain the joy of a single moment at all times
I can tell you first hand, Alzheimer’s is a terrible disease. 2 years ago I was diagnosed with MCI, Mild Cognitive Impairment... that has now progressed to Early Alzheimer’s and I am only 65... It just sucks

Alzheimer’s is the worst, not just for the person who has it, for their family who are trying to save them, my mum is trying to help my grandpa, who did so much for her and her siblings, her siblings are doing nothing, most of them are very selfish, I wish they’d help

This is so sad, no one should ever have to go through this. Im young and have no risk of getting Alzheimer's, I also no one in my family has ever had Alzheimer's, so my risk of getting it over time is very low, but thats something thats kinda always in the back of my mind, like it COULD happen. Aside from that, it seems that this always happens to the best people who dont deserve it. I hope a cure is found at some point, I hate seeing this happen to people.

It's absolutely heartbreaking, seeing a loved one go through this.... All their memories will slowly be erased, behavior changing...it's almost like having an empty shell of what once was a loving family member.

but after a while don't they reach a point they forgot their was something to remember and aren't they "more at peace" somehow (i know they do "stupid" and "angry" stuff even when at advanced stages so they can't be that at peace but i d prefer to be completely unaware then half aware if you catch my meaning)

Usually people who suffer from dementia know they are forgetting until about stage 4, where most cognitive behavior starts getting lost.

Imagine slowly losing your self knowing that eventually you will forget about every single thing in your life imagine losing who you are the people you cared about all whipped away faded from your memory like a black hole slowly consuming all your memories until there is nothing left until you don't remember until you aren't you imagine dying not knowing who you are and who the people surrounding you are. Watching my great grandma go from being one of the most understanding and loving figures of my life and now she's come down to the basic emotions and actions of a toddler is absolutely heartbreaking. She has been my mom's surrogate mother since before her actual mother committed suicide. I can't imagine being the child or surrogate child to someone who is going through this disease but in the end I really hope that everyone including myself will be able to come to terms with and remember the good memories of who their loved one used to be

My grandfather on my mom's side was diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease in 2011 at age 75. At first, Granddad would forget a few things here and there. He then lost his ability to filter himself and would make inappropriate comments about other people, which meant he couldn't go out in public anymore and he didn't take me on adventures anymore. When I last saw him in 2012, he was loopy and could no longer tell reality from his imagination. He told me long winded stories of him killing people while he was in the Border Patrol back in the 1980s. Granddad was put in a nursing home after he went to Grandmom and said "Hey nice lady, will you take me home" because he forgot he had been married to her for 55 years. He died in 2013 from a heart attack in his sleep

Really hope new research in the field will find something to slow down or cure any disease that affects the memory. It is often called here in Finland as the "läheiden sairaus", meaning that the close ones to the patient suffers more from the disease, than the one living with their disease, in their still remaining memory bubble of the past. Just imagine, that your father/grandfather, mother/grandmother that has known you for your whole life suddenly don't even remember who you are, and that they could behave completely alien to what you are used to. Nurse as profession, and I have seen many cases of childrens "abandoning" their mother/father because every time they meet, the ill do not even know who they are talking to. Loosing someone that is still alive, and that is close to you at the same time is an surreal experience. "Luckily", my grandma died, not needing to be in the hospital for more than a week, due to a flu after an hip fracture, before an mrsa pneumonia and sepsis took her away. She had been a year earlier diagnized with alzheimers disease, or atleast partial memory loss (only my mum knows the diagnosis, never asked) abouth six months prior. Some patients at the institutions, lies there for many years. One part "luck" and part proper hygienic principles for 17 years, had lead to an patient being at the same appartment for 17 years. I can't even imagine the hell of only being able to eat spoonfead food for 17 years(korsholm/mustasaari in ostrobothnia, if anyone needs the specifics. at an oldfolkshome). The elderly did not get mistreated in any way but to be an vegetable in there for 17 years, i'd rather die any other death than that known to mankind. (that is where i did my 2nd internship at), I really hope that something to reduce the prevalence of the diseases or outright an cure is found,. This is by far the most debilitating chronic disease(s) of humanity so far.

My great uncle has it and he lives with my other uncle and aunt and they noticed he is talking to his self and forgetting things so he went to a doctor they said he has Alzheimer’s he is getting out of hand though he’s fight keep leaving the house he went across the street and told the neighbors to call the cops and he told the cops that my uncle and aunt were dead and they sent the swat them and it was like 4 in the morning they put him in a home because they are too old to take care of him and he’s doing thing like that.
