This is so mind opener in several ways you have no idea. This finally took me out of the confusion and intimidating zone. I've learned as much in 1h30 as in x years. Now i can finger drum other things than kick snare hat without brainstorming like a jerk. The only thing that is still confusing is the difference between kits. Some have only 8 percussions, some don't have this or this type of perc etc. But now i way better see how they're usually mapped, as i've tried a bunch of them while following you, and they respect the same scheme. I guess we just have to dig each one and learn its specificities. Usually, i keep this for women, but i love you ;D So many thanks and respect Paolo.
@@themooz4118 The drums in this video come from the Roland expansion board "SRX-01", which is contained in a Roland XV-5080 module; the module's MIDI In connects to an M-Audio MIDI-to-USB interface that goes to a computer running Cubase (DAW). The Novation USB goes to the computer as well. In the DAW MIDI track, the Novation USB MIDI is selected as MIDI In, and the M-Audio interface as MIDI Out. In your case, it's simpler because you don't have the external hardware gear. Just select your KeyStep as MIDI In, and whichever drum instrument you pick in Ableton as your MIDI Out
Tante GRAZZiE mr. Paolo ! I was about to throw away my midi modules, but now it looks i was Laaazy. It's hard to compare with professional musician when you're beginning music enthuziast.... All best!
I really loved that you went over many genres, Paolo. Highly interesting content as always! I'm really curious about how to play bachata properly. I've figured out that kind of Romeo Santos roll: it seems that you just go over the first three or four notes chromatically starting from bongos. After that I just mess around, though 😂.
Great vid, and so many ways to learn drumming, still wondering if I should pick keyboard drumming, finger drumming, electronic drum kit, sample pad etc. Wanting to get better at rhythm skills to improve my sax playing. Any guidance on which one of these drumming methods will best help improve rhythm feel for someone who is struggling?
Thank you, I think any of those four methods will work, although I'd recommend the electronic drum kit as the best of them, because it resembles a real drum kit the most.
Cara, que aula !! Muito obrigado. Agora vou poder programar meu ritmos com mais facilidade e com pegada. Gravar os ritmos assim com um controlador midi na minha BOSS DR3, vai ficar muito melhor do que nos Pads. ✌😉
I think it's actually a fast reggae. Reggae was extremely popular at that time and a lot of the English bands of that era were influenced by it (i.e. the Clash)
I can manage the first 2 bars of keyboard drumming but then I either increase or decrease the tempo, I have mouse entry on the piano roll down to a fine art and prefer this over live playing and quantisation.
Paolo, i have a question: is it easier for you to play drums on a real drum set as on a keyboard? The handgrip is very unusual on keyboard, but you don't need much space at home :-)))
Years ago i was in a band and when we finished recording for the night and everyone went home I would stay in our studio sometimes all night redoing the drums and the bass tracks. Kinda crappy I know but I never could get those guys to play their parts without being sloppy. Live was great but the studio left a little to be desired. Im not sure they ever knew the difference when i would give them a copy of what "we" recorded lol.

I thought keyboard drumming isn't really my thing and here I am, 27 minutes later :) Great content and skills as always, Paolo!

Yes yes. Was that funk beat from? Walk on by Isaac Hayes.
Ah, yes, definitely in the same '70s vein as Walk On By :)
As usual, great content! Appreciate you sharing your knowledge. I learned a few new tricks to make my drum patterns better. Great!

23:33. Usually congas are here. You mean one octave up since -1 becomes 0 on midi-keyboard’s display.
Correct - the display reflects the position of the octave shift.
Love this. Great stuff!
Glad you enjoy it!
