14:52 Where To Buy The Best Travel Keyboards, Synths & Pianos
Sam's voice was recorded using a Rode LavGo lavalier microphone: bit.ly/2XHmwp9
In this buying guide, we run through the main features of 5 of the best travel pianos, keyboards and synths. Now obviously, there's a huge range of small MIDI controller keyboards on the market, from the likes of Novation, M-Audio, Arturia and Native Instruments, but these aren't much good unless you've got a computer to connect them to.
So when selecting the keyboards for this video, we decided that they all had to tick off a list of travel based criteria. To be a truly standalone travel piano, they must have onboard sounds and built-in speakers, they have to offer the option of being battery powered, and most importantly, they must be small enough to fit in a backpack or suitcase.
With all this in mind, we've selected 5 keyboards to suit different budgets, applications and levels of playing ability, so if you're looking for the best portable piano, best cheap keyboard for beginners or best small synthesiser or mini midi controller, hopefully we can point you in the right direction!

i need a beige one. because i need to patch the memory of my grandma trowing away my beige keyboard when i was 4 😢
Super villain origin story
The CP has a hidden grand piano. Start from power off, put the selector between two instruments, turn it on.
He should have shown that because a grand piano voice is a lot more popular and gives it a lot more value over the electric piano voices
Great video and amazing playing! Thank you!
wanting to get into making my own music while travelling, this was a great video
Thank you for this - I was looking for something affordable for the mom - this video helped a lot
Thank you so much! I'm traveling to paris with a fiew friends and this will really help out to choose a keyboard to take so that we can play on the road! Also amazi
ng playing on the demos. 👍
Super helpful video.
Exactly that is my focus list of mobile pianos. Thanks for review.
Excellent You tube great job great picks bravo 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
5:00 Philosophy!! Great vid and playing :)
Super useful review, wanted a keyboard for my 8 year old to just jam on \ learn. He has been using midi units hooked up up to my MPC one but its awkward to setup. After hearing your commnets about the Alesis pretty sure that will be perfect.
I use a KorgTriton49 with 127 built in sounds ,full size keys, velocity sensitive and a can be used as a controller
Useful top!
The Alesis is great for travel practice and it doesn't cost much.$49 usd.
You killed that Ben Folds dude.
Well done.
Would u use any f these in a live band setup? Outputs to an amplifier??
thank you!
Use to play piano a bit better than average then arthritis struck my hands. Now I’m in my 70’s and rather sedentary and would like a “lap “ piano to start playing again. The foldable model or the Alesis harmony 32 seem like they would both work well in my situation and price point. Any preference suggestions from those who have used these?
Just got the Alesis and I think you would be happy with that. Great that it's only $49 at Musicians Friend and you can use a headset. Surprised how nice it is for the money. Sounds great too. Better than a kids but not premium.
Can i use alesis harmony 32 as a midi keyboard..?
Brilliant video, so helpful. Just saved me a million in excess baggage.
What's that song he demos with 8:12 minutes in? It's quite nice.
2:20 now that sounds an awful lot like virtual insanity :D
I would love to find a keyboard that has:
-pad sounds
-3 to 4 octave keyboard
-octave shift
And if they have time:
-basic effects and EQ
-no demo songs
-if they really must put demo songs in it, how about just maybe not a big button that starts the same demo song that my 2-year-old son wants to push any time he sees the keyboard (looking at you, Casio SA-76…)
I feel like that could be done relatively cheaply?
I would like to find whose whose keys don't eventually go dead.
what song did you play for the yamaha reface cp demo? lil funky, i liked it :p
virtual insanity by jamiroquai
I would love to have all of the Reface series but that wouldn't be too portable lol as with the Roland. That is not a portable keyboard, just offers stand alone features. Those folding keyboards, well, who are they actually marketed too? That Alesis is a disgrace. I've seen toy keyboards better, the Casio SA45 for example. I'm surprised you didn't mention the one I finally ended up with. It's not perfect but gives me playable instruments and 2 drum kits on the keys. The Yamaha PSS-A50 works for me. Love this Channel and even tho I'm in the USA, you folks are still one of my go-to channels for the Best Honest Product Reviews! :)
is it bad that i'm thinking of getting that Carry On keyboard just because its white lol. I like its features and that its easily stored away too though, but mainly the whiteness..........
does the roland have a usb plug in option and does it plug into a wall outlet
Could someone be so kind as to tell me to which song belongs the melody that plays in the 10:15? It sounds strangely familiar to me, but I can't identify it.
Pls how can I get one ,the folding piano roland
PHILOSOPHY
can the roland jupiter xm be plugged into an amplifier
PMT 🤘
😎🤘
Was that some jamiroquai on the Yamaha cp demo?
Interesting!
If the Carry Ons had velocity sensitivity I would definitely own one, but that's a deal breaker for me.
I'm confused. What's it plugged into? Battery powered and travel oriented
Ok but what about option to change the pitch (fine tunning options)
In hz
Yamaha pss a50 Best portable keyboard ever made
Love the Casio watch. My favourite go to esp the price. I actually tracked down little glass screen protectors on line for them!
WTF. what watch??? FN bot
@@VAL3NTIN3 The Casio watch he is wearing at 2:24s.
@@dmaifred have you seen the custom ones they have for f91w? All black out ? Idk if that's your style but i have one. I'm a Casio fan girl. Have like 6 of the f91w. All in different colors of course. 😂. And of course cant forget to have a silver and gold a158 in your arsenal. I was almost close enough to buy the pac man one. But idk. Got the "ALIEN" one. That they use in movie. 😆. Glad to know people out there admire Casio and love watching keyboard. Have a good week brother
check out the casiotone series I would say they beat most of these out of the park besides the reface.
And check out the ROLAND GO piano
does anyone know the song he used to demo the CP @ 2:20 ?
"Virtual Insanity" by Jamiroquai
Its annoying that you need an amp, I'm also beyond annoyed with dealing with rechargable AA batts. Are there any stand alone mini keyboards that have their own speakers and on board battery and charge via usb? that is what I would like one item that can be charged grabbed and taken on bus, played at the park, ect....
👍
Yamaha PSS-a50
great video, can u make one ONLY including options that don't have speakers. and can rely on usb/headphones
Does any of these have weighted keys?
nope
From my experience, the Akai is very glitchy...not very polyphonic despite great amount of tones.
Are these keyboards full-size keys?
pretty sure it's only the folding ones
Do you know a portable keyboard that had Indian sound, especially a harmonium?
Yes, the Yamaha PSR I 455 is one of a few examples of keyboards that has Indian musical instrument sounds already on board.
Having Alesis Harmony 32 and Roland Jupiter-XM in the same video is quite funny.
I need a good keyboard recommendation for a one year old 😍 I don't want a colorful toy one. I want a real keyboard. ❤
What about the Casio sa46?
Casio sounds could be common?
You've ignored the best one which is a bit costly but has everything you would need. Piano de Voyage...
I do not think that Roland XM is portable size.
But you forgot the most important: SPEAKER.
Many touring professional pianists would value a more portable piano, still with a graded weighted action. The number of keys is less important than the action and the portability, but manufacturers refuse to understand this. A hotel room/airline compatible/motorhome/boat practice piano is badly needed.
From a pianist's view these keyboards are all gimmicks or gadgets. A keyboard that could be seriously considered as a piano to go for serious piano players is the piano de voyage. Have you tried that one?
Nor this wasn't made for a pianist, this more gigging stuff, or practicing for un- professional pianists
The Roland Jupiter XM can hardly be classified as a gimmick.
The piano de Voyage doesnt fit the criteria for this list. It does not have onboard sounds, requires a computer or iPad to play, and is essentially a midi controller
the best travel keyboard is the melodion duh
that beard tho
None of those are travel size. I think we have a very different definition of travel size. For you travel size means a large keyboard that is made slightly smaller and more compact. For me travel size means is completly portable even pocketable.
The carry on 49 key looks very portable to me.
02:05 "About 5 hours of playing time from 6 AA batteries" That is near useless! who only plays for so few hours?! No one who really practices a lot, only plays so little... That removes Yamaha Reface from any probability of taking it on a travel trip. Casio SA76 will last for 1+ MONTHS of playing on it's 6 AA batteries (especially if headphones are used instead of builtin speaker).
What's that song he demos with 5:00 minutes in? It's quite nice.
Ben Folds Five. Philosophy.
Wonderful song.
