Gee, playing the drums was so easy. I don't think I will be happy playing drums this way. But then again, my ludwig kit burned in the 80s. And now I have the PSR-E463 to learn on. It was still easier than this way, I just have to get use to my fingers doing the work, instead of my whole body. That's where it will definately be a difficult change. Thank you again.
These videos were great! I really enjoyed them. I have a lot of respect for you. What you're showing is not easy. I've been trying to do it for years and when I record music I still have to do two passes for everything. One pass for kick/snare/toms, and another pass for hi-hats/rides/crashes. I can drum if I'm sitting behind a real kit, but have never been able to play very well on a keyboard.
That’s an amazing technique, it sounds like how a drummer would play. I’ve played drums in the past and some of the techniques remind me of the sort of exersises that you do on drums and practice pads. You’ve got the expression and dynamics spot on!
Outstanding lessons! I recently bought a control pad with the intention of learning finger drumming to supplement my keyboard noodling, but the controller I got had some problems, and I was about to exchange it. After seeing your videos and experimenting a bit on my keyboard, I’ve decided to just return the controller and get a refund. My keyboard feels more comfortable and natural to me anyway. So thanks-you just saved me some money!
Excellent. I think the key point is that, as you rightly point out, a drummer normally only has two arms and two legs. Too many midi drummers forget this and before you know it they have an octopus behind the skins!
It's really fun to see you playing .. as you seems clearly to enjoy the playing .. so We are !!! Thanks for your videos .. Congratulations from Madrid Spain!!!
Dom that was incredible. The amount of time you've invested in learning to drum on keyboard really shows. Are you laying down loops, or are you actually able to play through an entire song without gassing out?
Thanks very much. Not really a drummer, except on a basic level, but I was thinking of getting an electronic kit for production purposes. Now I think I'll just get a bigger keyboard and start practising this finger drumming stuff!
Bro u r simply awesome... No other channel we can find such a detailed video on finger drumming for beginners... Kudos to you... U seriously are a good hearted teacher... Can you by the give some tips for developing good finger technique on the keyboard?for pianists and non pianists
Really really impressive and inspiring... Seems to me that I still have to train a lot, and a lot, and a lot, ... :-) Honestly, I didn't thought it was possible to have so persuasive drum play with a simple keyboard... This is the perfect demonstration that I was wrong...
I was just looking for some good examples of grooves to practice on my pads. I think you might have converted me - they keyboard setup seems so intuitive and ergonomic. Going to give it a go!
I love everything you guys do! These were some of the best! I'd love to see one on how to figure out a synth sound you hear in a song, like starting with the broad category it would fit in and then drilling down into the waveform to replicate. I'm also aware that it probably relies on knowing the instrument a band is using and being really experienced in a broad range of synths to be able to identify a similar sound. I think it's cos I play guitar mostly and it's pretty easy to pick the sound cos there is a lot less variety in instruments and pedals... but figuring out synth sounds feels much more challenging and that there seems to be more variety. Love your vids guys! You are all freakishly talented! 🙌
At 5:20 I guess thats the major advantage over real drums or e-drums. Anyway, don't get fooled. He is a piano player. It will take a lot of practice to get anywhere near his level of playing drums on a keyboard.
My question could i use a lighter keyboard and midi it in to my Roland Fantom G8? Im still trying to wrap myself around hooking up midi stuff. I like the fact that you can use midi to make changes
Hi! This talked me into getting a keyboard to learn finger drumming. But I’m not a pianist and you mentioned at around 4:25 to get a ‘synth action keyboard’. This is probably what I need but how would I research the best choice?
Halo, this is fantastic video. I have before only programming drums, but this is the way....can you please recommanded me program-software with same arrangement of keyboards to drum lake in this video(C-kick, D snare, E snare, FIS hihat...) I have try drum PRO (onyl 12 drum sounds), i have garageband on mac. Thank s very much. Jakub
Hi Dom, looking into my first controller, what about a semi weighted key's for finger drumming? I am looking into the M-Audio Oxygen Pro 49 because it seems to be the most user friendly unit with Reaper.
How do I do foot, operated high hat, keep it playing quarter notes while snare and tom rolls, ride and crash cymbals, etc.? In other words, live drummer, with foot pedal, can keep high hat going simultaneously with using BOTH hands to play rest of kit.
Thanks to Giving us usefull information About finger Drumming on keyboard, but I wanted to know one thing, which Midi Software or Plugin is best for Drumming ? which is compatible for FL Studio DAW. Regards. #maksynthhouse

very cool. I never could figure out how you remember where all the drums and cymbals are at. That explained it perfectly. I cant wait to try it now.

Fantastic video. I've been using this GM drumkit for ages, but now I understand the reason why it's set up like it is :) Thanx Dom!
I was just looking for some good examples of grooves to practice on my pads. I think you might have converted me - they keyboard setup seems so intuitive and ergonomic. Going to give it a go!

Very good ! Bur pedal Hi-Hat is Ab key, not Gb ;)

Why my GM layout by AD2 don't match with this one?🤔on my layout toms is double-one tom on two keys
Can you show how to finger drum reggae patterns
What about other drum technics from jazz, how would you map that in the keyboard? Certainly needs other samples
7:25 Offspring - Americana? xD
I think that the most difficult thing in finger-drumming is playing left and right hands at the same time.

ok can you teach me Dave Weckl now plz
I'm crying I wish I am not a good music producer
Great for keyboard players, but maybe better to buy a drum set if you're not one, the learning curve is steep
