Rookie mistake there. You got the 2804-22 "L" model, you need the 2804-22 "R". You're trying to use a left-handed drill with your right hand just return it and ask them to send you the Right Handed model.

I don’t have this issue! I bought mine as another person here did in a kit with the large Packout, M18 Fuel Hackzall (love it!), Gen 3 Hammerdrill, and Gen 3 Impact Driver. They are awesome tools! Lots and lots of torque. I’ve seen reviews where the Milwaukee has beat the Dewalt. With other reviews where the Gen 3 Impact Driver has literally smoked the Dewalt 887 (VCG smoked 3 or 4 of then in tests).
So no, I don’t hav the issue you have and recommend it. It could’ve been a bad lot of switches (triggers).

Hey I don’t have Milwaukee but would think someone or some machine didn’t trim enough of plastic on the slide or button to give it proper fit and function. Quality control process. When I worked in a machine shop I had to check like every 10th or so piece to make sure the cuts were correct.

  • @zeroinfinity5864
    @zeroinfinity5864 5 років тому +1

I work at a tool rapair shop. We have not had many of these come in for this issue. I think i have only seen one with this problem out of the ones i have fixed. I understand what could easily cause this. The trigger just needs to sitting out a little bit and it catches like this. And also i have noticed they let it direction selector sit much losser in this than other models, idk why exactly though. But if you where to hold the drill different, leaning it to the other side you will likely notice the trigger is now not getting caught. But from the experience of a tool repairer you just got unlikely. But this isn't the main design flaw with this tool. The first time I saw the tool I saw a problem with it straight away. I won't say what it is though. But i might let you know if ever you guess it.

    • @MostlyPeacefulCombatVet

You described exactly what I figure the problem is with all of mine. We use them, so we haven't had time to send any off. Just can't tilt the drill to the left side while in forward or the trigger will stick.

I don’t own anything gen 3. I have a few of gen 1 m12 and the 3/8” stubby m12 impact (not sure if that’s gen3) But with the quality Milwaukee strives for, I can’t see them just letting this slide. $200 for a drill, it better be flawless no matter the brand. I would contact Milwaukee again with the details of this transaction and insist on a suitable drill. This will absolutely stop me from upgrading to gen 3 until I see this remedied. Milwaukee has earned my business by being the leader in customer care and warranty so I expect them to be on top of this issue.

I just bought the M18 MILWAUKEE 2802 and comparing it with another that I have the Brushless 1/2 Makita 18v Dhp485sye, the MILWAUKEE 2802 is louder, the motor whistles, it heats up more,
the battery does not fit at all, the charger seems iron but as a positive point It has a better Chuck, it feels powerful, 5-year warranty, it looks well manufactured.
Between MILWAUKEE and Makita the power seems similar, at the moment I prefer the makita since the motor is quieter, the motor and charger hardly get hot, time will tell if the heating in the
MILWAUKEE is a problem or not.
It has cost me USD$185, winning the makita for USD$12 dollars less.
I hope my comments contribute something positive to your purchases.

Man, I got my 3rd-gen hammer drill, when it first came out. After a month and a half, it had a trigger problem. It would get stuck, especially when I am drilling up. A year later, the problem still persists. I have gotten used to it. Other than that, it still performs amazingly. Another thing I have noticed is that there is a small gap in the chuck, between the red ring and the other half of the chuck, about 1/16th of an inch.

I just bought a 2804-20 and the trigger is smooth in both forward and reverse. I think you got 2 bad drills. However, I am having difficulty with the variable clutch over tightening screws even at the lowest setting. That is what brought me to your video. I was hoping to find some commentary on the clutch. But your issue was the trigger; not the clutch.

I have put my drill in reverse multiple times and went forward sinking the screw further than I wanted. I'm finding the same thing with dewalts impact flex brushless. Here's what has me sold on dewalt my last set of dewalt 18v owed me nothing!
I few years into it the chuck on the hammer drill got all messed up. I researched figure I'ld try changing it for the cost of about 60 bucks. I went to and authorized repair place for dewalt to get the part. The guy says to me for 99 bucks we'll fix what ever is wrong with it. I was only doing this so I would have to spend 300 plus on a new one so for 100 bucks what do I have to loose. They told me it takes about 3 weeks. Well two days later I get the call that it's ready. The yellow housing and the black trigger were the only things left from the original. It might have well been a new drill. It lasted me another 11 years. Tools are how I make my living, they all have pros and cons dewalt treated me right so last November dewalt got my business when I replace every thing with no regrets.

I got lucky with my trigger. But I don't like the electronic clutch/torque-limiter.
They shouldn't pretend it has 16 settings. It should just say "high" and "nut-busting high".
This driver is great for (self)drilling in metal, or driving big bolts with a socket.
For woodwork, or for installing electrical devices & face plates, there's the little M12 (which is absolutely perfect).

Ive had mine for a few weeks now, mine doesn’t have that problem, however it does seem to stall out easily. Somethin I’ve noticed is at full speed it will stall out at certain points, but if I slowly raise up the speed it won’t.which sounds obvious but I didn’t have that problem with the non fuel brushless version, or the hole hawgs and other Milwaukee stuff I’ve used. Before the video started I said out loud "the trigger!" I have the same drill and used it almost everyday during a renovation and I was experiencing the very same issue. Seems to only want to work perfectly if you pull straight back but in awkward spaces with very little room you're finger wont land perfectly on that trigger and it would get stuck. I talked to the Milwaukee Rep at Home Depot about it and he knew nothing about it and we both looked at previous models, drill/impacts, and they had solid triggers that did not seem to bind up like that one.

  • @lancelee5757
    @lancelee5757 3 роки тому

I just watched a video. It might explain. When you are using the drill setting to drive a screw the drill will shut down as to not over tighten. When you pull the trigger it will move the screw 1/16 of an inch with each trigger squeeze . It could be a feature in the drill that is overlooked.

It's most likely the forward/reverse selector causing all the issues. Our apprentice at work had the same issue. Sent it for repair. Came back and did it again 2 weeks later. Sent it in again and they sent him a new drill that, as far as I know hasn't had any problems. They said selector had caused all the issues.

    Hi Redemption Garage,
Wow, i hope milwaukee can fix this issue with this drill. I use both battey line but still didn't get this drill yet. I basically use the DeWalt DCD791 just because i don't really need the hammer part. I do like the Milwaukee m18 gen 3 (1/4") impact drill
If you check out 94 GT Coupe videos he had this issue with the milwaukee trigger on the same drill and he goes step by step on how to fix this issue.
Funny how when dewalt has a flaw in their tools people call it a junk tool and company. When milwaukee has a issue it's called a flaw, too funny. I'm like you i like to use good tools. Everyone is forgetting that this was the same thing when everyone was using corded tools. Just get the best tool.

I have 2 of these 2804's and 1 of them did this exact same thing, while the other did not no matter how much i tried. I fixed the one that did this and it's such a simple fix, but you have to take all the screws out and open it up. The black slider that changes the direction has a T like divider. I took an xacto knife and shaved it slightly so the trigger will slide thru like it's suppose to. Problem gone. This one happen to be the one i got off a seller on offer up for $80.00 bucks so i had nothing to lose. Not a big deal unless you have no skill at opening these up.
I find Milwaukee's to be easily serviceable so i am glad i bought them.

After watching this video I tried to replicate the same thing with my Gen 3 M18 and gave up after about 5 minutes. What ever I did, in reverse and forward, the trigger was butter smooth. You must be very unlucky to cop two in a row.

Could be brother. I tried one on the shelf at home depot and it did not do it either. I have heard mixed answers from everyone some people have had the problem and some people have not so I am not the only one unlucky lol. It may be a qa issue. Thanks for watching and sharing your experience I appreciate you.

I'm taking my gen 3 to work tomorrow. Mainly inch and a half holes through 2x but a few 3 5/8 and sometimes stacked pieces. I'll see how it does compared to the hole hawg

@@melsmobileservices4223 I have that one. Check my channel. Don't a always fit in tight spots and about 30th over head hole of day I'm over it lol. Anything bigger than a 3 in I'll still use my hole hawg unless this drill holds its own pretty well. I know it'll do the smaller holes and ones through single layer 2x no problem but the stacked and bigger holes I think would kill the poor drill

I bought last year M18 brushless hammer drill and impact driver combo kit, and I found that my impact driver had something going on with the brain box because I could pull the trigger all the way back and either wouldn't work or it would go at half throttle. So I returned it to Home Depot and picked up a new combo kit, and I haven't had a problem since that impact driver has fallen down roofs and it gets slid underneath cars, but the drill is hypersensitive, if you rattle it around the light will turn on if you put the thing in neutral and you moved the drill around the light will turn on, the damn things like my ex girlfriend

I had the same issue, kinda, with my 2763 impact, had it since the day it came out over 5 years ago, never had to have anything fixed, still works fine to this day, but I made the mistake of using a 9.0 on it, and damaged the frame after a few months of use, wore out where the locks sit in the tool for the battery, bought the gen 2 impact which did NOT have this issue, and I have plenty of milwaukee tools that use the same trigger style, I have taken apart the 2763 before to grease the hammer portion and noticed how the trigger mechanism works, you should just return it again and get a new one, some triggers in these tools are just sloppy, different factories I guess.

I just had the same issue with my brand new Ridgid impact driver out of a 5 piece kit. Returned it and the second one was better but still a bit sticky if the directional switch not heavily pushed in to forward. The others were fine though. Quality control departments need to step it up by TTI. Also, Same trigger source company?

Here is my experience with Milwaukees and warranty and turn over, as well as with the drill...
I had to send in my 7 1/4" circular saw (gen 1) for warranty for a similar issue, would spin up, then die and not turn over at all, then i'd leave it for 20 minutes.. it work fine, sometimes a few days would go by and have no issues... then it got worse out of no where like yours but would randomly spin up the motor and run long enough to use. This went on for about a day or two before I decided I was going to fill out for a warranty claim, then the trigger stopped working completely while I was cutting siding for a house I was working on (rockboard). Like zero hum, no turn or even a click, it was 100% not working. I was tempted to crack it open and see if i could fix it, but I decided to just file first and see how big of a deal it was to send it to a repair center.
So that same day I decided to test out the warranty and went on the website and filled out all the information and serial number and printed out the label and sent it in. Had it back within a week from their vegas location, which was much sooner then they said it would be, they installed a new trigger with a different serial number apparently (from the gen 2 I think). They've had a lot trigger issues on the tools, seems to be a random but common issue on the tools. The saw had worked for a good year, did a lot of work... its not as powerful as the dewalt saw, but it was lighter and easier to use for the work I was doing hanging off stuff and overhead.
Also to note, I do have the 2804-22 Gen 3 Drill and I've used it for close to a year now and haven't encountered any issues at all... yet!

Placed order 2 days ago, then found out about sticky trigger issue and the occasional drill stops on quick trigger depression. Was already dis hearted about my purchase and thought of cancelling my order. But upon receiving I immediately tested it for those issues and found neither. It is 2020 manufactured and EU version, so I don't know if they have fixed the issues? Or is it present in us versions only. Anyway feeling lucky I didn't receive a lemon.

I've had it happen on my fuel 1/4 " impact, But one thing I have noticed with both the hammer drill and the impact is, The through body forward reverse toggle. This has happened hundreds of times where I will be in forward and something lightly I mean lightly shifts that toggle 1/ 8th of an inch and it stops. Like frozen stops not forward not backwards. This is a design flaw. Everything I have is fuel . I love Milwaukee but I have to point out their BS. However the skillsaw 6 1/4 ? It has a faulty switch I have been through 3 of those skill saws where the switch doesn't engage and the motor freezes. I was so mad about the 3rd time I didn't wanna wait for it to get sent to me so I tore it apart myself. I fixed it. And I was also able to disengage that stupid safety. For decades we have [ ALL ] used regular skill saws with the shield up and no safety ? OF COURSE ! Have you ever jumped on a skill saw worm drive after using the Milwaukee skill saw with its safety trigger for a couple of years? ITS DANGEROUS! With the fuel skill saw have you ever had a hard reach cut and your arm is fully extended and you don't have the Argonautics to use your thumb for the trigger? I'm telling you it's dangerous that trigger safety is dangerous. besides that it doesn't work I have had 3 of those 6 1/4 freeze up on me. I love Milwaukee, and for now I will stay with them. It's been about 15-20 years, But they need to come out with a fuel 7 1/4 skillsaw with the motor on the right side not on the left, I mean how stupid was that ? And it needs to have more power because that 6- 1/4? it cuts very accurately but it is just gutless. MILWAUKEE NEEDS TO PUT URGENCY INTO THEIR TOOLS.

I got one from amazon as well and had trigger issues. Not just the sticking trigger, but if you pull the trigger repeatedly while a battery is installed, sometimes the drill does not even power up on some trigger pulls. It should go every time you pull the trigger, but on some pulls you get nothing. I sent it back. I started to look for a different seller, and noticed that everywhere i looked for this drill, it comes in a plastic bag, and not in a factory retail box. Why is that? Is the internet flooded with defective versions of the tool? Is this tool only available in a combo unit and it is being separated from the kit and sold individually? I need a good m18 hammer drill, but I don't want a defective one.

No trigger problems But the electronic clutches do not work correctly. The clutch doesn't respond like a mechanical clutch so the drill will rip from your hands. Damaged my gen 3 on the 1st trigger pull. So I use an old dewalt while my overpriced red one sits.

Totally have been through the same issues. Not bad luck its a flaw. I will never waste my time and money w Milwakee again. Drills, Impacts and Drivee brushless or not the triggers dont last more than a 20 uses. THE SHORT IN THE TRIGGER FAILURE COMES FROM THE DRILL MOTOR GETTING HOT! The triggernis a side effect to the heat. Imho

I have a sort of similar problem but during drilling it shuts off. The trigger does slightly jam but it’s nothing major. I’m wondering if it’s the sensor in the trigger or something in the motor that causes the drill to shut off during drilling. I’m using this drill specifically in hammer mode to drill through marble

  • @duggiestone

Mine was exactly the same way. In forward when the drill is turned to the right, the switch has too much slop and clicks hard on the trigger. I went to Home Depot and opened up two there. One clicked, one did not, so I swapped it out. Extremely irritating that they have that many with issues.

Wow what are the odds that I came across this video I bought the gen three kit with drill impact and hacksaw thing a couple months ago and yesterday was the first day I really got to actually use the drill for a little bit and my trigger did the same exact thing in forward too I don’t know if it does it in reverse. But that problem pisses me off we pay a lot of money for the “new” drill that shouldn’t have any problems Milwaukee should recall them or something this situation isn’t cool at all I like Milwaukee but it seems like they aren’t saying anything so that they don’t have to recall them or something. And I also noticed with my drill it gets really hot that it’s hard to hold onto the drill. That’s not cool either. I’m thinking of returning it if I can still or something not cool Milwaukee. I wasn’t even looking for this video or didn’t search anything about Milwaukee drills and this was in my home page what are the odds of that crazy.

I think you nailed it a design flaw or rushed design or not enough testing. They should pay you for the testing and report. I recently bought the dewalt 996 for around $93 and liked it so I bought another. I am not prejudice against any brands appreciate your review information and time into this video. I was just watching red/yellow battles, hoping I bought a quality drill. I think I will be okay.
