"Simple Man" is absolutely one of the greatest songs ever recorded by any band, period. I often refer to it as one of the few "perfect" songs ever written and I stand by that statement.
When my daughter was young she told me she’d never listen to Skynyrd. I caught her one day, crying. She said Simply Man made her think of me and the things I always told her. To this day I tear up when I hear it. I love my kid.
This song was written after the Van Zant family lost their mother. They set around at that time and began to share the sayings and wisdom that their mother passed on over the years and it eventually turned into what you are hearing. A case of respite CREATING art.
@@phnxbyrdphnxbyrd6403 I said mother when I meant grandmother. My mistake bro. Shortly after Ronnie Van Zant's grandmother and Gary Rossington's mother died, they got together in Van Zant's apartment and started telling stories about them. Rossington came up with a chord progression, and Van Zant wrote the lyrics based on advice the women had given them over the years. They wrote it in about an hour. "We just put down in a song what our mama or grandma had said to us," Rossington told Paul Ingles. "They really wrote it, we just played it."

Jacksonville 's Finest. Lived there many years and was married in Jax. RIP to all Skynard Souls. 😇
Check out the version of Simple Man done by a band called Shinedown.
His younger brother took his place after his death and a 3rd brother founded and fronted the band .38 Special!
Best reaction quote ever about a guitar: "It melts in your ear."
That Smell and Tuesday’s Gone bith just beautiful

The lead on Skinner died in a plane crash. But he was amazing! Try the band Shinedown version too.
The Ballad of Curtis Loew should be your next Skynyrd song!!!!
Everyone should live by the lessons of this song, but every soul is different.
This is the song I danced to with my only son at his wedding 8 years ago this month. Always loved this song since the day it first came out, made more special to me that day. Perfect time to react to this, thanks.
I'm an old lady now and I love all kinds of music but this Southern Rock is one of my favorites.
That ballad of Curtis Lowe.. that one is one of my favorites too
My stars. This takes me back to my high school days. Lynyrd Skynyrd was always playing on the 8-track. LOL Drank a many a "pony packs" of Miller beers riding the streets of my home town. Killed me when they had that plane crash!
Hi young man. I got lucky and stumbled on to your channel. I'm just an old man who grew up in the 60s and I am so pleased that you have found the music. It was special then and has become even more special now that you enjoy it. God Bless you and all our Brothers and Sisters.
Skynyrd was 3 🔥 guitar players, bass, drums, keyboards and singer Ronnie Van Zant who ruled the band with an iron fist and an iron will be succeed at the highest level
This was the sound of south. Gritty blues vocals and a dirty guitar. Nothing fancy but it becomes so rich when it all comes together.
"Gimme three steps" is a fun song by them
More Lynyrd Skynyrd "Sweet Home Alabama", Gimme 3 Steps" or "Saturday Night Special". And if you like Lynyrd Skynyrd, be sure to check out the Allman Brothers.
Love Skynyrd! This was the song my son and I danced to at his wedding
I highly recommend that you watch the Lynyrd Skynyrd documentary. I don't even like documentaries that much but theirs was absolutely fascinating, entertaining, and just plain amazing✌🤘😍
You are one of those people that after listening to for 5 min. comes off as: "Man this guy has a good heart and a kind soul, I wouldn't mind having a dozen friends like him." Thumbs up!
Saw them do this live at Bethel Woods (the current name of the Woodstock site - great venue, btw) - fantastic live or recorded . . . great song and message!
Been listening to Lynard Skynard since I was a child and I still have your same reaction... They were amazing
This is my favorite song of theirs next to That Smell which is amazing
An amazing song that every guy should relate to and follow. Treat everyone with respect. That’s the message.
I was 9 yrs old when this was released and danced with my son to this at his wedding 4 yrs ago. As a mom, makes my heart warm every time I hear it.
Love a number of Skynyrd songs. I would say try "What's your name" next.
Never stop a classic in the fadeout
Tuesdays gone, The Ballad of Curtis Lowe, Sweet Home Alabama, Freebird, Gimme three Steps, I know a little, T for Texas, Needle and the Spoon. Just too many to mention.
Every thing they did and do is good stuff
I remember the poster in my room when I was growing up, I remember crying when I heard about the plane crash. Simple Man, a song to live by
