"Free Bird" is their must listen to song. Other great southern rock bands are The Allman Brothers, who helped create southern rock, ZZ Top, Marshal Tucker Band, Charlie Daniels Band, and many others.
Sang this to my baby boy when he'd get fussy. Years later it played on a station and his wife mentions, "your Mom's ringtone." 😁 I know he likes Skynyrd...goes to show you... 🥰
This was composed after two members lost mother and grand mother respectively in same month. The were visiting about the advice they gave and from that chat came this beautiful song. A relatable tribute for all of us.
Great southern rock band from the 60's-80's. It is very sad what happened to this band in losing so many members in a plane crash. My favorite songs are "Simple Man", "Free Bird" & "Sweet Home Alabama". They had lots of great songs such as "Call Me The Breeze", "Tuesday's Gone", "That Smell", "The Ballad Of Curtis Loew", "What's Your Name", "Gimme Three Steps" etc.
Great reaction……like others have said “Free Bird” is their opus but they have a huge catalog of bangers……If like the southern drawl you’ll love “Flirting with disaster” by Molly Hatchet…it’s a classic southern rock GOAT !
Welcome to the greatest American band in history .. Freebird live at Knebworth when they completely blew the Rolling Stones off the stage is a must .. Enjoy the ride ...
The most famous and successful Skynyrd lineups always have three guitars 🎸 Gary Rossington, Ed King, and Allen Collins. King was replaced by Steve Gaines. Their distinctive guitar sound often came from two playing the same lines backed by rhythm guitar
I remember my brother bringing this album home from university in Edinburgh in 73 . Loved it then and still. A friend of my brother said she thought the picture of guitarist Allen on the cover ( dead centre with long dark hair ) was " the definition of beauty in a man ! "
You gotta check out "give me 3 steps"......... Ronnie WAS Lynyrd Skynard ---- that voice. His brothers are great but there was something very charismatic ABOHT Ronnie......
Ed King, primarily a guitarist played bass on the first album. At the time Leon Wilkerson had been the bass player and toured with the band through his life. You might check out the song The Ballad of Curtis Lowe. The song features a dobro. Many of their songs featured slide guitar.as well. I saw them in their first NYC appearance at Wohlman Skating rink in Central Park along with The Elvin BIshop Group and The James Cotton Band for $5.00.Ronnie Van Zandt kept chugging on his bottle of Jack Daniels throughout the show.. Allen Collins and Gary Rossington were phenomenal on guitar.
I mean, if you havent heard it, you have to do "Freebird". It's the top hit. By far. I think every concert i went to for 30 years people were screaming play "Freebird" regardless of what band was playing. 😄 But yea.. at least 20 other great songs on the list.
Gonna give ya the what's what here. I'm 64 years old and saw Skynyrd 2 times live but was a fan from the start because the used three lead guitarist a bass keyboard and drummer with lead vocals by Ronnie VanZant this band was ahead of itself with the music but hit the peak when Ronnie took on Steve Gaines who was the brother of one of the backup singers Cassie Gaines the album Street Survivor and the song : You Got That Right, shows that the sound and mix vocals of Ronnie and Steve took them to the edge of perfection. Now not to babble on to much, when Ronnie, Steve and Cassie were killed in 1977, people thought It was the end. Well in a way it was, But Ronnie as brother Johnny VanZant took the lead vocals and built a new Lynyrd Skynyrd with his voice, now as I have heard all of the music put out by this band from Ronnie through Johnny I can say without a doubt the last CD they did was the closest to the 77 Skynyrd. Check it out : Last Of A Dying Breed. Oh yeah I could give you a list but I'll only give you three two old and one new,1. Free Bird live, 2. You Got That Right and 3. Last Of acting Breed. Once you hear the last one you will listen to the rest of that CD!
Incredible band, I saw them at Shoreline Amphitheater in Sep ‘87. It was the 4th show after they started touring again with Johnny. Alan Collins was rolled out in his wheelchair and gave a tearful drunk driving message, and Carlos Santana walked onstage and played with them a bit. I’ve seen them again in ‘97, ‘16, and ‘19. There’s a really good documentary about the plane crash.
This whole album is near perfect. For another song to listen to, check out an excellent deep cut of their's - "I Know A Little" checks all your likes and is a rollicking little tune. Song was on the "Street Survivers" album released only days before the tragic plane crash. Written by Steve Gaines, the newest member, who also played lead guitar on the song. Excellent guitar riffs and a great little piano solo too.🔥🔥🔥🕊🕊🕊🕊❤❤❤❤
All of the guitarists in the band were excellent at lead, and they knew how to give each one space without competition. Allen Collins will always be my favorite.
Awesome album to start with. Simple Man and Freebird are my favorites. Takes me back to my teenage years. I also appreciate the clarity in his voice❤❤🥰
Something else I think you might enjoy is the work from joe bonamassa and beth hart. Anything from the live in Amsterdam show is definitely worth a visit
I don't hear metal influence in Skynyrd, or in southern rock in general. Molly Hatchet and early Blackfoot are from the hard rock end of the southern rock spectrum, if that interests you. Peace.
There's a few power ballads they've done that I'm sure will be recommended a billion times, but if you want to hear something that will really knock your socks off, check out Call Me the Breeze. It's literally impossible to sit still while it's playing.
RIP Gary Rossington, lead guitar 🎸...that last living member of the original band who survived the plane crash and played his last gig Feb of this year. Died last week..one of the best 💖💖🎸🎸
One of the greatest bands of all time and this is what I personally consider their best along with "Free Bird", you should react to "Cry for The Bad Man" - 3/7/1976 - Winterland , another gem!
David Bowie is one of the most enduring musical artists in history. Under all the various personas he created he was a pretty “normal” guy with a great sense of humor. He also starred in a super sexy vampire art film called “The Hunger.”
When i was a kid in the 70s and a teen in the 80s, we didn't really make the distinction with Skynyrd like with some of the other Southern bands, even with other bands from the South. It was just great rock to us, and they blew their headline bands off the stage with their performances. They were as good, if not even way better, live than in studio.
SHA and Free Bird are musts. I personally like Have You Ever Seen the Rain too Oops wrong group. HYESTR is creedence Clearwater revival. Also a good group to check out
Not heavy metal for sure! After you do the obvious ones like Sweet Home Alabama & FREEBIRD then you should check out Tuesdays Gone, Gimme Three Steps & Call Me The Breeze. That would get you started but doesn’t even scratch the surface! 🎤🎸
Oh you want some southern singing do ya! It's time for ZZ Top Jesus left Chicago and then you'll want to add Whipping Post by the Allman Brothers to your drop jaw list!
What’s with these categories that “they” assign? There’s NOTHING “heavy metal” about southern rock! Do they throw out “metal” every time there is a distorted guitar? I’m beginning to think that’s it. Humpf……(crabby old codger I guess).
"Free Bird" is their must listen to song. Other great southern rock bands are The Allman Brothers, who helped create southern rock, ZZ Top, Marshal Tucker Band, Charlie Daniels Band, and many others.
A live version please.
Free bird was my class song when I graduated from high school. (You can probably figure out how old I am from that statement alone)
Those were the exact bands I was going to mention!
Drive-by Truckers have quite a few songs dedicated to Lynyrd Skynyrd. Definitely worth a listen.
The Marshall Tucker Band "Can't You See",, "Take The Highway" & "Heard It In A Love Song"
Sang this to my baby boy when he'd get fussy. Years later it played on a station and his wife mentions, "your Mom's ringtone." 😁
I know he likes Skynyrd...goes to show you... 🥰
Allman brothers “Whipping Post”.
This was composed after two members lost mother and grand mother respectively in same month. The were visiting about the advice they gave and from that chat came this beautiful song. A relatable tribute for all of us.
Thanks for that historical insight..... They were great.
What a rabbit hole you’ve found - terrific band.

Blues Medley or The Same Ol' Blues .... I'm gonna go listen right now it's so freaking awesome
Glad you got to my hometown boys. All their songs are great!
Tuesday's Gone is another excellent power ballad with an even more southern feel. Oh BTW, it was covered by Metallica.
Many of us relate to this. Love the channel
Great reaction……like others have said “Free Bird” is their opus but they have a huge catalog of bangers……If like the southern drawl you’ll love “Flirting with disaster” by Molly Hatchet…it’s a classic southern rock GOAT !
The amazing vocals of Danny Joe Brown ♥️🎤🔥♥️
Welcome to the greatest American band in history .. Freebird live at Knebworth when they completely blew the Rolling Stones off the stage is a must .. Enjoy the ride ...
Skynyrd is worth a deep dive. Great music.
Blackfoot "Train, Train" & "Highway Song"
The most famous and successful Skynyrd lineups always have three guitars 🎸 Gary Rossington, Ed King, and Allen Collins. King was replaced by Steve Gaines. Their distinctive guitar sound often came from two playing the same lines backed by rhythm guitar
More southern rock/blues/jazz ? Allman Brothers.
Freebird is their Stairway, but you should probably do Sweet Home Alabama next, then Freebird.
Ballad of Curtis Loew by Lynyrd Skynyrd is defiantly worth a reaction
Thank you kindly for reacting to Lynyrd Skynyrd. They are the standard bearers of Southern Rock.
'Skynyrd Lives On!
You should watch freebird live August 21st 1976, awesome performance.
I remember my brother bringing this album home from university in Edinburgh in 73 . Loved it then and still. A friend of my brother said she thought the picture of guitarist Allen on the cover ( dead centre with long dark hair ) was " the definition of beauty in a man ! "
Auld fouter. If that means old fart, I’m one too! 😜 great handle.
The Allman Brothers Statesboro Blues and/or One way out...they have so many great songs! Southern rock- blues at it's best!!
You gotta check out "give me 3 steps"......... Ronnie WAS Lynyrd Skynard ---- that voice. His brothers are great but there was something very charismatic ABOHT Ronnie......
Freebird. Live at the Oakland Coliseum. July 1977 must see!!!!!
Ed King, primarily a guitarist played bass on the first album. At the time Leon Wilkerson had been the bass player and toured with the band through his life. I like the detailed setup.
Try "That Smell" from Skynyrds "Street Survivors" album. Three guitars on this album and most of the rest.
Such an awesome song! Great reaction, thanks! This intro has been my ringtone for a lot of years :)

You must try “Call me the Breeze” and you better hold on !
If you do FREEBIRD do the live from Oakland version !!!!!
That’s the one.
FOR SURE..caps for a reason...lol
That's exactly what I was coming on here to say...AMAZING....
Gonna give ya the what's what here. Donnie did .38 special right ?
They're definitely worth a deep dive.
They actually have 3 guitarists.
Great intro to Skynard. Check out "I know a little".

Yes! An excellent song choice. Possibly my favorite tune by them.
Follow the rabbit hole my sonnnnnnnn !!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you really want to listen to a sweet sounding dialect, discover Neil Young.
Ronnie was a lyrical genius. He never wrote down the lyrics to the songs & loved to go barefoot on stage. They have 2 lead guitars & a rhythm guitar.
He was touched by The Divine. No doubt
All of the guitarists in the band were excellent at lead, and they knew how to give each one space without competition.
Allen Collins will always be my favorite.
Hi 👋 FYI Jensen Ackles sings this song. Jensen played Dean Winchester on the t v show Supernatural. He's really good.
I need you is a must listen to

You need to check out the songs "Give Me Back My Bullets" and "Saturday Night Special" by Lynyrd Skynyrd.
You should REALLY react to shinedown do a cover of this song as well, it's amazing...

another Southern band allman brothers Jessica
Jacksonville FL...... Sexy, unique, real southern boys.
Love this one! Makes me sad that I never had a son.
Great reaction! For one of their amazing blues songs, check out 'The Ballad of Curtis Loew'.
One of the greatest bands ever
It’s a double guitar solo Gary Rossington and Allen Collins dual riffing together.
If you love the lyrics check out "Things Going On", incredibly cool intro guitar with words that speak clearly today.
Listen to That Smell. The tempo will rock your world.
David Bowie is one of the most enduring musical artists in history. Under all the various personas he created he was a pretty “normal” guy with a great sense of humor. He also starred in a super sexy vampire art film called “The Hunger.”
Great song but probably not the one I would have started with. Try Freebird live or the studio version of Call Me the Breeze.
Yes
The singer and guitar, galeeee hold my paycheck this band.
Must listen to FREE BIRD 🐦
Some people sing their babies lullabies…I used to sing this to my son as a lullaby when he was little. He’s 30 now.
Love this song.....❤❤❤❤❤❤gen X rules ....best time in life just getting ready for the 80s
If you loved this one, the next one should be Tuesdays gone. It might just be my favorite bluesy rock song of all time.
When i was a kid in the 70s and a teen in the 80s, we didn't really make the distinction with Skynyrd like with some of the other Southern bands, even with other bands from the South.

Look again. 3 🎸 guitars.
Not heavy metal for sure! After you do the obvious ones like Sweet Home Alabama & FREEBIRD then you should check out Tuesdays Gone, Gimme Three Steps & Call Me The Breeze. That would get you started but doesn’t even scratch the surface! 🎤🎸
You need to listen to Shinedown’s version of this song, I’m not sure if I’ve ever heard a better remake of a song
I think the heavy metal reference may come from that smell, it's pretty heavy, heavy lyrical content too
Number 95? F Rolling Stone
Oh you want some southern singing do ya! It's time for ZZ Top Jesus left Chicago and then you'll want to add Whipping Post by the Allman Brothers to your drop jaw list!
Stop with the research and just enjoy.
