Great song - originally written for his then new born son, Riley, who now plays rhythm guitar in the band. What must it be like for him, playing a song written for you, and to hear everyone singing along to the words?!
In 1996 I went to Ibiza with a second hand discman and a scratched sleeveless cd of jolification that I played on loop for a week. Nearly 30 years on, I listen to jolification every holiday without fail. The warmth, memories and sanctuary that album gives me is like nothing else. Fantastic band
This was a passionate performance by Broudie. Really loved the way he belted 'nothings certain' and the way he was driving the band and song on. A classic song being elevated.
By the time this was released there were so many iconic tunes that became anthems in history so when I first heard this on the radio I knew that there was something about it that I thought that we would be hearing it for a long time to come and quite rightly so!!!!

i remember the sad chinese song back in 96 ... "you showed me" how cute is his son ... he can manage the band for solo with the same name ... papa is too old 30 years later remember this band is from 1988 dang
Indeed and a classic tune too to go with the riff at start used for Goal of Month. Its goal C for me ring 0898 etc etc but I live in Rep of Ire so could not enter.
I can still hear The Great Des Lynam saying pick them in the right order 1 2 and 3 ! This was immense for Match Of The Day in the 90's when football meant more 👌⚽️🎸🎙 Lightning Seeds.
As a father, how fuc£ing cool would it be to write a song to celebrate the birth of your son that the whole nation takes into their own consciousness for whatever reason? (footballing or otherwise) and they are still singing it when your son is probably older than when you wrote it?
Lightning Seeds have always been a sober, safer, Syd Barrett. Slightly less dazzling, more polished and thoughtful, still amazing. 9.9/10. Love this record so much.
Sadly, they've been playing this with completely the wrong beat for years, plus it's missing large parts of the instrumentation. The original had an Accordion and strings playing the top melody during the non vocal parts of the son, and of course Ian's voice has gone.
Love this. Takes me back to the 90s again.

Loved the father and son nod at 00:19 must feel amazing!
El motivo mas importante para que the lightning seeds, continue.
i honestly didn’t know this until reading this comment a month or so back…his son must be buzzing!!!
Maybe his son should have a go at singing as Ian is wank
Nice story😮

Great football music, it's match day in the boozer having a few beer's perfect coz it's pure and simple everytime👍👌
I certainly remember this song... It has been over 25yrs.. Very happy mood.. Fantastic.. Cheers!
The girl on synths has a great voice. Female vocals definitely add to the song.
One of my all time favourite tunes for street gigs. Thanx guys n gals..❤❤❤❤
One of the, if not the, best singer/songwriters of their generation
Playing a song written about you on Glastonbury main stage..I would say very few of us will have the life of Riley!
Forever cool how Riley is now there playing
So many great bands from the 90s at Glastonbury Festival this year
Never knew he wrote this for his son❤
Takes me back to my childhood. Brilliant song.
I seethis and it reminds me of the set with Terry Hall in London 2014, Sorrow, Sense etc. Awesome
THIS its music like this that evokes happy times and great memories. LOVE THIS
I did not know they were still going, Ian Broudie and co. Nice to hear they are still rocking.
Amazing band, amazing song and an amazing performance. What a happy happy audience.

Great music, amazing vocals and band !
Killer music, but I don't what's more out of tune, the harmonium or the singer's talk-singing.
@@vampiresforeslThere,s always one yes you.The crowd love it and that,s all that matters.
Saw the Seeds when they were in their 20's at a music festival outside Philly. Incredible.
You'd have a job, Broudie didn't start touring with the lightning seeds until he was 36 😂
This is brilliant!!❤❤

I was pleased it was picked up by Football Focus and MOTD. Much better than the other football song they did, it's never coming home, get over it😂
Proper tune.
