The 2022 Audi A3/S3 Is A Quicker & More Sophisticated Petite Sport Sedan

  • The #AudiS3 and #AudiA3 weren't the first affordable luxury compact vehicles to hit the US market, but in 2006, #Audi realized there was a strong demand in the states for a more affordable and compact sized car in their lineup. The #A3 and #S3 really took off in 2015 when Audi introduced the excellent second generation. For 2022, the pint sized Audi sedan is back and it gets more power, tech, efficiency, and luxury this year. On sale now, the new A3 starts at just under $34,000, while the S3 will cost you another $10,000.

Hey guys! We were pleasantly surprised with how much better the new S3 drives for 2022! We should also be driving the US spec version of the redesigned Golf R next month as well. Stay tuned for lots more content as we march toward the end of 2021!

I absolutely LOVE the integration of the infotainment screen into the dash. It's so much better than their "tacked-on" tablet-style design found in A4/A5/Q5. I hope when those get full redesigns we see this carry over.

I do actually like the interior design for the most part, I think Audi did a good job of refreshing the tech integration over the outdated fixed screen of the later previous generation models (and even other current models in their lineup). Not super thrilled with the drop in power on the A3 2.0 especially because it’s gained some weight, but the S3 drivetrain does seem like a standout feature of the car. However, as a current 2016 A3 owner, I’m not sure that I’d be incredibly tempted to go for this new gen model when I could just as easily end up with a lightly used A4 or A5 sportback for comparable prices.

Impressive upgrades from previous offerings from Audi. They almost hit a home-run if it wasn't for the fake vents. Quad exhausts, however, look great, as does the engine bay which is one of the best looking by far in this segment and beyond.
Too bad there's no 3-zone climate controls. But the return of the adjustable center arm rest, and increase (if not complete) in real buttons -- esp. on the steering wheel -- is greatly appreciated. Wonder if the rear windows go all the way down? Probably not. Also, still hard plastics for second row, steerage-class passengers.

The proposition to have someone pay $57,000 for a non-enthusiast compact sedan is quite a bold move in my opinion. Many people look at a Golf R and say, the price premium over a kitted out GTI, is worth it, because of the differential and AWD system. It has refinement, sportiness and practicality. An enthusiast may look at a WRX STI and say the same thing, albeit slightly less refinement than a Golf R... But, here with the S3, Audi is offering a lot of refinement, perhaps not a ton of power, but the 0-60 time is very quick for what power it does make, which then really puts it into the realm of an M3 of only couple generations ago. The price however, leads me to believe that many will choose to lease such a car.... The A3 2.0 however, in the neighborhood of upper $30,000s...well, that's a great car to buy. It's still quick, refined and has AWD, good fuel economy and safety suite features. To me, that's a better buy-out option.
