Turbo lag is, quite literally, always experienced at a time when switching into dynamic mode and downshifting is not possible. You're complaining about the test because it... tests and demonstrates the problem. "Well, uh duhh if you were in the RPM range that doesn't have turbo lag, you wouldn't have turbo lag!" Derp.
I like that Audi is keeping physical buttons and controls on the dash and steering wheel. But from a design and materials quality standpoint, this interior is well below their past standards.
Recently picked up a 24 S3 prestige. Love the car so far. Wish it had heated wheel and vented seats. Paddles and sport mode definitely help alleviate lag. Adding a small motor, like the A3 has would definitely add some torque fill. Overall great styling, technology and performance, where Audi shines.
About to pick one up too halfway into the video i noticed the flashing red compass on the rear view mirror annoying me A LOT is there anyway you can turn that off?
Don't worry you chose right. I find the cla/a class have a very jerky transmission.. that gets super annoying over time. Not smooth at all for a daily driver. But I will say their interior is second to none in their class.
Wow I really love the S3 interior over the MK8 R. It's just done so right. Even though the R starts at $45k, it's still a "better" deal compared to a similar optioned out S3 with all the tech and safety features. From my understanding the S3 does not have the same performance awd as the R? Meaning it's missing the torque vectoring capability as it's little brother. But man, the interior layout is so much better! Great video.
Here in Canada a fully loaded S3 is over 10k more than a loaded DSG golf R... feature content is about the same too... while the interior design of the s3 is better the materials are only a bit nicer... with performance upgrade you get in the R I expect the price to be similar
Excellent review as always, thank you. I just bought one and I'm picking it up next week. Obscure question for you: [the solution for small paddles is paddle shifter extensions--I've done this in the past] There are currently no paddle shifter extensions online for this car. You mention it has the same ones as your 2017 GTI? Are you being literal, or is it just that they're similar. Thanks again.
You mean the M240i? Well, that's a coupe and this is a sedan. If you're shopping that segment, the M240i is phenomenal, for sure. If you're shopping the small sedan segment, the S3 is way better than the M235i Gran Coupe (didn't like that car at all). Thanks for watching and commenting!
why you turn around your head when changing a lane? i heard that mirrors in US are not showing blind spot like in EU, its true? i think is danger because you don't look at road on 2 seconds
The new S3 is an excellent upgrade from my 2018 S3 but the interior gloss piano black trim is, in my opinion, not a welcome addition. I’d be looking for an aftermarket option to cover it especially round that strange stumpy gear shifter.
Just have the interior trim PPF-ed. Easy to clean, a little sunshine makes the scratches dissappear as if they never existed. I actually do the same with the exterior piano black trims as well. Worth the money.
I dont know why people still comparing S3 with gold R..... if you want to compare those 2 then go with Golf GTI vs Audi S3 or .... Golf R vs Audi RS3....
Its because the S3 & golfR have the same drivetrain and engine. That’s why they’re compared with each other. The RS3 is a completely different engine which is a 5cyl instead of the 4cyl turbo in the golf R & S3.
Love the A lineup. The S lineup is sooo much sicker. The performance, the sound, the epic-ness! Such a sick video.
11:25 The summer tires definitely contributed to that good braking and they also have better traction on wet surfaces.
This S3 is definitely better than its platform mate, the Golf R. Same powertrain, same drivetrain, but this one is just more awesome I think.
It’s much more refined I got a 2023 mythos black specked out and I love it really great balance of quality comfort with good power when you need it
Blues like that look so amazing.
That braking was amazing
Testing turbo lag in auto mode outside of the boost threshold is like measuring how tall your house is using only google street view

Love how collected you remained around 17:10 😂
Haha I knew it was coming
0:02 well thats an old car😂

Really nice daily driver !!
Awsome review :) i was choosing between s3 and cla35, picked s3 :) but i still love the mercedes interior (Ambient light) 😂

Nice review and balanced answers.

Own one and u will regret it reliability
@@jayczyzyk9707 COPE
It's definitely an insanely beautiful car.
@@jayczyzyk9707 we drive an older generation, so far it's been alright

Short and to the point without all the fetichist drivel about minor design features. I liked this review.

I like the physical controls. HATE gloss black and hate that nubby little shifter though...
Sad that you Americans can't get the hatchback. I think it's just better although I love sedans too.
It's a real bummer. I want the S3 hatch in a bad way
Same. I really the bmw hatchback M
@@tuvtuvl Nah that is a FWD abomination with massive grill. The previous gen that was RWD was so cool!
I think i'll go with the BMW M235i, based on your past review (which was great, btw)

I’m looking into this and the new mustang 😭 I can’t decide

The relocated cup holders never gets a mention! IMO one of the worst usability aspects of the previous version.
Great video. what do you think compared to the Golf R?
I much prefer the Audi infotainment, but love the R's look and practicality. Would probably get an R in manual.
"womp womp"🤣🤣🤣
I would buy it and put it in a carbon fibre steering wheel
damm it looks good
New Golf R > New S3
agree
Looking forward to finding out later this month!
I’m a child 😂😂😂😂
I don't mind the stubby shifter, but that gloss black surround has got to go
You can wrap it in interior satin ppf and it helps a lot
16:45 the last thing I want my car doing is “rotating”.

The back bumper fake vents SUCKS!
even worse on the RS3. that one looks like a clown from behind.
I don't like that "nub" shifter
Same
cool looking car but i think audi spent most of the money on the performence and styling more than the quality and materials of the car
The build quality in Audis is some of the best you'll find. Materials could be better in the S3 but that's where they cut some of the costs
Interior plastics in new Audis are a joke. You breathe and they get scratched....
tbh. i am also not a bit fan of gloss black surfaces. but i had no problems at all with scratching so far. driving mine for about 20.000 miles now.
