There's a federal law that says your backup camera must appear within 2 seconds of going into reverse. The older (2014-early 2018) models did allow you to retract the screen with a button. The same thing is true with the older Q7's that had/lost that ability. "The response time for image display must be within 2 seconds of the vehicle's direction selector being placed in reverse."
I test drove an Audi for the first time yesterday, a still-new 2020 A3 equipped almost exactly like this one. Honestly, I liked it much more than I thought I would. The A3, at least the Premium Plus 45 TFSI Quattro version, feels small, agile, and reasonably quick. It was more fun to drive than the 2019 330I xDrive CPO I drove recently. The A3 rides nicely in my opinion, even with the optional sport suspension, but it also handles well when you get to some twisty bits. The 330i feels more luxurious, but the smaller A3 is nimbler and just a more enjoyable daily driver.
I have a 2016 A3 Sline, the full package (19' inch wheel, fixed Sport Suspension, sport bumpers and the internal stickers & stuff. And I Can't wait for the new Audi A3 with the same package..it's gonna be an iconic car and for sure I will buy one!
I have an '18 S3 in this same Daytona Grey Pearl and it is, frankly, a drop-dead gorgeous vehicle. It looks fantastic from every angle, but especially viewed from the front quarter. And the pearl effect paint just POPS in the sun; there's way more definition in the shape of this car than its silhouette lets on. And it drives damn near flawlessly on anything short of a proper racetrack. My only zonk is that they never released the stick in the USA despite initially saying that they would. P.S. My infotainment display still retracts like it's supposed to when you turn it off. They changed that in MY19 because of the delay to bring up the back-up cam it incurred.
The reason the screen doesn’t go down is due to backup camera regulations, I believe up until 2018 the “off” button hid the screen as well as turned it off
I love the 3 series as it's the same size as my B5 S4 and there's something to be said for having a small, powerful car to zip in and out of traffic with. The RS3 is super sweet and will probably be my next car. Awesome review!

Just bought a 2015 A3 for about 15k with 40k miles and I think it was an amazing deal. Strange that my older model seemed to have more features, in my A3 both front seats are mechanical and have thigh support extenders, the infotainment system can be put back down with the press of a button, there is a launch control feature with traction off and in dynamic mode, I even have the same seats and the most amazing Bang & Olufsen sound system. My car isn’t an S-line so I don’t get a flat bottom wheel but I still get paddles. I am unsure the exact trim of my A3 but it seems like a much better deal than buying new!
@@henrikntrl Honestly there is a lot of maintenance especially if you care to mod and tune the car like I have. This outgoing A3 is a great looking car. It may be a little long in the tooth but it’s still very modern. Just saw some European reviews of the new 2021 A3 and while they made it look like a baby A4, they definitely cut corners. They made the door frames exposed so when you’re inside, you can see the paint of the door jambs on the A, B, and C pillars. The current model has these covered up like a proper luxury car. Also the worst design element of the coming car is that Audi put fake exhaust tips on the entire A3 range. You get actual exhaust tips on the S3, though.
My buddy has a 2018 RS3 and that thing is phenomenal for $60K. He let me drive it around last year on Memorial Day and it not only accelerated and braked great but it also corners like a lil hot hatch. Seriously I have not driven many other cars that handle the twistys as good. Great center of gravity. Even tho that one is pretty significantly different powerwise to the S - Line, the DNA is still there. Speaking of that the MK7 Jettas are also really good as well. I bought one last month as a new daily and I'm pretty sure these two share a platform. There's alot of similarities. I even told my buddy it's like I bought the broke man version of his RS3 😅😂
Same. I don't really like the new daytime running light design. Also don't like the uneven vent heights of the interior of the new A3 there. The new tech Is awesome on the interior.
Thank you very much for referring to the story of the glorious Auto Union. Originally Audi, created in 1910, was symbolized by number one. But it all started earlier, in 1899, when Horch was born. Before long, as I understand, the A8 will have its ultra luxury version called A8 Horch. All a tribute to its sublime origin.
My first non-manual car in decades. Bought a gorgeous quantum gray with red leather interior. Got a wicked deal. Miss having a 3rd pedal, but the DSG is close, feels like a manual, except 1st gear is weird when you stop. Will enjoy this little Audi for 4 years, and then it is S4 time!
@@_NB233 Actually, I am back in a manual Audi. Traded the A3 in on a 2016 A4 Technik manual with competition package and low km/miles. If the A3 had a manual, I would not have traded it. Took it on a 6,000 km road trip and it behaved like a dream. But be careful which one you get - the Technik (Prestige Plus in USA) is lowered 1.2 inches so it handles much better. Also, if you are getting used, only buy if there is proof the haldex awd and dsg gearbox have been serviced - if one of those goes the cost to repair is insane. A guy I know had his dsg break and the bill was $8,500 to fix it at Audi and independent mechanics would not touch it. So be careful, but if you find one with low km and service records, it could be great. If you are looking new, the 2022+ A3 no longer has a shifter, so make sure you get a trim with paddles or it is no fun. Good luck!
