Damn shame these types of videos do not get more views. You're absolutely correct that expansions rarely get covered. I am very happy that you make these.
Sorry that auto focus messed me over a bit again, but it's only me that's blurred, you can see everything else that's important - just listen to it in audio form if you have to, but I didn't have the strength to re-record the whole thing.
Glad to see Beyond the Base Game series is back (thanks to you I ended up getting both expansions for Abyss, and chucking the loot deck). Great review, thanks for looking into each of these expansions.
I just bought Onitama a few days ago and I've been enjoying it with my sister and dad. I was looking at the expansions and I found this! Great reviews. 👌
I enjoy the altered dynamic that Way of the Wind offers, but don't have the other ones. Light and Shadow slipped through the cracks for me, so now I'm curious about picking that up. I haven't seen the need for more movement cards as Way of the Wind offers a couple new ones that can be added to the base game (plus the ones that are Wind-Spirit specific). However, it sounds like you felt that more movement cards from Sensei's Pather are worth it.
I only just recently got Light and Shadow, and I love it. This game (while incredibly easy to learn and teach) has always felt incredibly cerebral to me, and I love that about it. Adding in a bluffing option into piece movement just made it more interesting for me to play. I'm now curious to see if it's worthwhile to add buy the Way of the Wind expansion to add into matches with the ninjas involved too. I'm hands down getting Sensei's Path though. More cards is definitely worth it by any standard.
Yes, anyone can get Sensei's Path - the other 2 are good expansions but I'll never really use them given this game is more of a teaching tool for new gamers for me.
Thanks for the video. I have been looking at this game and War Chest. I know the rules of both, just never played either. A few similarities between the two. Which do you like playing more?
Great video! Definitely good to add sustainability into your review considerations. Please keep that going :) As an industry I think it is needed and should be highlighted when it is done right! Expansions are often the biggest culprit of unnecessary waste if the plan is to store it in the main box. With a large amount of sales happening online now, having a bigger box on the shelf simply for presence is overrated IMO.
How does one guarantee that the ninja is where it is? Like, my opponent moved to my ninja spot. Do I have to tell him that he captured mu ninja? What is stopping me from just keeping quiet? I don't like games that rely purely on players being honest.
Hi Luke, love your videos and I really enjoy the Beyond the Base Game series. The packaging of these expansions really is a waste of resources. Unfortunately, my wife doesn't like to play Onitama, so there's no need to get the expansions. Greetings from Germany!
so easy to cheat with the ninjas... you really have to play with people you trust. If you play with people you don't know, will you ever be sure that great ninja movement you weren't expecting was fair? this is too fraught
Just don't play with shitty people I guess? Nobody I play games with would cheat, so not a concern. You can record movements on a sheet if it's that big of a deal or just not use the expansion.

Thanks!! 😊 I agree they are useful.

It wasn't that bad at all, still a good watch! Expansions are always dodgy choices for me, so I love to see more of these!

Thanks!
Yes please and thanks for expansion conversations.
Thanks for the review. Chess has never needed an expansion, and it looks like this one doesn't either!
Exactly what I was looking for! :D

Great to hear!
Light and shadow looks and sounds very cool
Very clear ! I just bought onitama ! Only got light and shadow… made a good choice after all 😎
Man I need to get this game. Great overview of everything. Thanks
Thank you! Glad these are useful to some!

Agreed that the packaging for the expansions is idiotic.

Really appreciate this video.
Glad you enjoyed it!
+1 for Avatar the Last Airbender reference! Thanks as always for your expansion reviews. They are much appreciated 👍
Glad you like them!

Onitama, much simpler and yet still thinky. But both are solid games. War Chest has luck of bag building though, there is zero luck in Onitama.
I really don't like Chess, but I love Onitama.
Love this series, thanks so much... and yes this is a great game.
Glad you enjoy it!
Thanks for the video
No problem!
My girlfriend and I call it the smoke monster. We stopped playing with it a month after buying it.

Thank you! Will do!
Thanks Luke, you have saved me some money as I am not a die hard player and also tend to teach new people.
Glad it was useful! :-)
I disagree with you about the size of the Light &Shadow screens. The camera is at a pretty tall angle and you can’t see anything from here.
Try being up close with it in person.
I just order all expansion ... i hope there is no coming more expansions 😎
What happens when you use all 3 expansions together at the same time, imagine that.
Crazy at that point!
If you sleeve the cards from the base game and senseis path, do they fit in the base game box slot for the cards?
I long since chucked the insert as I have all the expansions.
@@TheBrokenMeeple makes sense! Great game
Very nice video

I can't recall it's been ages, but yeah some honesty required.

Hey, thanks for the feedback! :D
Do you think any redheads were trained in the art of Ninjutsu? By your pronounciation, they would be Ginger Ninjers 🤣🤣
Ha ha, who knows! I do love a redhead though!
"Ninjer" lol
What is a ninjer?
I really gotta be careful where I watch this video with the way he pronounces ninja.

Yeah true, trust is key in this one.

Ninjers lol
