I’ve always been quite wary of big and mega box game editions - I feel like I never end up playing with all the expansions (I’m thinking especially about Mage Knight ultimate edition), but this seems to be quite well priced in comparison with other big box game editions. Thanks for the review!
If you buy the BigBox and the 2nd Expansion the Alchemists you have 1 more variant to Play: Wolfgangs Wechselstube, the Promo Expansion for the Base game. So the MegaBox isn't that Mega at all, because the price is just the same and you have more Variation of the game in the bigbox for the same money. Maybe you than have also some more Tokens cause every company that makes board Games always try to reduce the Material and the Produktion costs.
Can't speak highly enough of the value of this mega box. It seems too big, but when you bling it out (if you so choose) it actually just fits in the box.
I just have base quacks and absolutely love it! Was planning on eventually owning both of the expansions at some point and when I found out that I can buy everything for the price of both of the expansions combined and essentially get the base game free ( in the US) I was like I'll just buy this and sell the copy of the base game that I already own. I'll just have to figure our how to store it.
I would LOVE to win this! A friend owns this and plays it so much, they've got fancy plastic chips for it. I love how everyone pulls chips simultaneously so there's no big delay between turns, and the fun of trying to stack the bag in your favour and gamble for bigger points.
Well .........................CONGRATS my friend, you just won it. Fate has chosen you sir! Get in touch at brokenmeeple@gmail.com and we'll sort out getting a copy to you!
Have played the base game at my friends a couple of times and loved it! We're a sucker for push-your-luck- style games though...would be intrigued to try the expansions, Herb Witches especially! Cheers for the review :)
I always thought of this game as a bit too kid friendly and simple and so was put off getting it for a long time. However after seeing some reviews I think it might be up my street, at least I can play it with 5 players with the expansion now! That is some good value for that mega box 😃
Really like this game for playing with newer players. Bullet Heart might have over taken it as my go to light/silly game but definitely want to try Quacks with both expansions. Also I just upgraded the Bullets in Bullet Heart and it did not cost me half as much as the deluxe pieces for Quacks.
Indeed, they stipulate it in the rulebook. But those geeked up bits, too expensive. Awesome yes, but coin capsules work just as well for less and I've got a ton of them spare.
I'm definitely with you on how ridiculous some big boxes are, I previously owed both the Fresco and Alhambra big boxes and sold them both as there was no need for those huge coffin boxes, went back to the base games and bought the expansions I wanted separately. As for Quacks, my favourite moment is when someone pulls out the wrong cherry bomb entirely against the odds and their face just drops and they'll usually swear, I know it's great cause I'll be generally doing the exact same thing in a round or two.
Quacks is a game that I only played with adults in the past and really enjoyed it for the fun, switch off your brain factor. I recently played it with my 2 kids (5 and 7) and had an absolute blast! It was easy enough for them to understand and is one of the only games I own that can be played with both adults and the family. I like the look of the expansions for adding options for the adult plays. Great info, keep up the awesome work Luke!
Just bought the Mega Box as the other box... with just the witches expansion was out of stock.... immediately looking for more compact ways to store this, really not keen on keeping the box it came in!
Man, that box makes me want to live in the UK! I hope whomever wins it, enjoys it a lot. I personally love the game, and it is more strategic that you would think, managing your luck does take skill. Thanks for the video!
I have both expansions, just in the original box with an insert. So glad I went that route. Big box is too big. I am glad to have both and enjoy playing with either or both.
I just purchased The Quacks of Quedlinburg Mega Box from Toy Street in the UK… All of the Fortune Telling Cards we’re bundled together and I would like to know which cards go with the main game and which cards go with the expansions please? I thought maybe the purple ones went with the base game and the blue ones went with the Alchemists Expansion but I don’t have enough purple cards… Some clarification would really be appreciated…Thank you
Great video, glad your feeling better. We haven't played quacks in awhile, we only have the base game that I bought for my daughter's birthday a couple of years ago. My kids do enjoy playing it and we find it a good game to introduce to friends. I have been looking at buying the expansions but haven't got round to it yet.
I agree with strategy 8 rating so long as variants are used. No matter how many games I played with my 4 year old, he always won until I brought in both expansions. Now, luck is mitigated by strategy and herb witch timing. I have yet to lose with the expansions! I'm also always well over 100 points each game.
Nice review and welcome back!, i've never played the game but I think if i get it i'd get the mega box as I like to have some variety to change things up as I go. I got a carcassone big box for a cheap price after only playing the game once before and after dozens of plays Ive never had the urge to buy anything more for the game or even used all the mini expansions it comes with. Zatu is probably the best site in the UK, never had an issue with them and I always find it cool they ship games in reused kickstarter boxes , but sometimes my wife thinks i've backed whats on the side before we open it 😆
HI Luke, thank you for the video! I have been pondering buying this game for some time, as my family like push your luck games. This box is HUGE, but this is something I would jump into buying as it had the expansion included and I know I would enjoy teaching this one 😀 Again thanks for the vid!!
Enjoy the base game with the family. Though the game in which my last round lead disappeared when I pulled only 7 chips…. 5 of which were white… caused much pain! (or glee in the case of my youngest who then romped to victory!)
5 player games really fit our little gaming group well. I only get a chance to play my 4 player ones when someone can't make it. Looks fun and definitely our kind of game. Thanks for the video :)
Been looking at this for a while. Love the witchy theme, but not 100% sold on the luck element. Could be good fun with the right crowd though and I suspect my daughter would be into it in a big way.
I would really enjoy a copy of quacks. I have played a friends copy a few times in a row at a games night. I found it a clean and fun bag building game. It's fun and frustrating as no matter how you build your bag of ingredients, the white cherry bombs still find a way out. To me, the end game was strangely anti-climactic, as it was very difficult to catch a leader. Still, really enjoyed my few plays of it. The expansions look interesting, thanks for reviewing it all together.
I've always heard exciting news QoQ but haven't managed to play it myself yet. Found this channel recently through researching Near and Far which my group is currently playing through. Hopefully we'll have a copy of this Megabox delievered for when we finish that and need a new game to play! ;)
Hey Luke. Thanks for explaining the game. I haven’t played quacks yet but would love to win a copy to try! Thanks for all the work you do on your content and glad you’re well again
Great review, Luke. Thank you. You mentioned a runaway leader problem. The game has a rat tail mechanism to help mitigate the runaway leader. I've seen the lowest player take the lead in a round after getting rat tails and a good draw.
@@TheBrokenMeeple , yeah, the integration does seem odd. Rat tails, really? It was rare that I've seen it change the leader though, from my experience, it does keep players in the game. More than the rat tails, I think this game is about building combos and being fortunate enough to draw into the combo. If that's what put the leader in front and they're able to do it again, the rat tails won't help enough.
@@TheBrokenMeeple , so it happened last night. Played a 4p game and I was behind, but close the entire game. 3 rat tails going into the last round, a good card flip (double rat tails for buying round - jumped my score by 2 points), and a golden witch coin/power which gave points for how many colors in my pot gave me the win. Rat tails weren't the deciding factor, but definitely kept me in the game for the final round.
Always had an interest on getting Quacks, just a shame the BGG Geekup bits aren't really available in the UK. It does look to maybe be slightly too much box!
Nice to see you back Luke🙂 This is a family favourite of ours. I would say there's some strategy involved as picking the right combination of chips can help a lot where as just randomly buying different colours won't help you as much. Have they included the promo track in the big box?
@@TheBrokenMeeple Thats a shame, the promo is a small board called Wolfgangs exchange office and I thought a big box edition would have been the perfect opportunity to add it.

@@TheBrokenMeeple There are only six cards that are marked specifically witches or alchemists… Otherwise some have a purple crystal ball and some have a blue one but I don’t see anything else 🤔 I’ve seen a lot of people put shields on the ingredient tokens, do you think the quality of this Mega box version will stand up to time without being protected?
