This is one of my favorite "abstract strategy" games, and one of the best sellers in my store. It has a simple and clean rule set that anyone can play. If you go to someones house and they have a chess set, it is either a display "don't touch it" kind of thing, or they are a hardcore chess player that will beat you in 3 - 5 moves. This is chess for the rest of us. Plus the "fortune cookie wisdom" on the cards are great. The guys did a great job of explaining the thinking that happens while playing this game. Onitama is a fantastic option for your local coffee shops game collection.
Knights of the Hobby Table Well, to be honest I am more in the middle for chess, not great, but good. Though I have several boards in the house. This game strikes me as something my dad and I would play a lot (we played both chess and shogi quite a bit durring my childhood). Down side is I live in central Alberta, and he lives on the coast in BC, so we do not get together too often.
13:56 Blue could have won another piece by moving forward his leftmost pawn with Ox; this would fork Red’s Master and a pawn with no way of defending the pawn once the Master takes his forced backwards diagonal move. This is a common strategy in Onitama; watch out for potential forks. Entertaining playthrough. :)
I think this has pushed me over the edge as I was looking for another 2 player game that could rival Santorini. I really love the simple to learn hard to master games--they just have so much replayability (i feel that should be a word as well! haha). Great play through guys.
Great playthrough, look s a very interesting game (you dangerous Az). Though that last move that Justin could have made would have been safe had he just stepped one to the left. Dragon couldn't reach. Now off to find a copy :)
Really enjoyable run through, thank you. Have you tried Santorini? Very similar, abstract 2 player strategy game with lots of variability with different god powers.

Must look into it, after Onitama we're definitely in the mood for more of these quick strategy games.
Good game guys thank you for sharing
I like how he pronounces “Crane” like “Korean” lol
Love this game.
Awesome !!!
Hi I've a question about the last move for goose. Did I miss something or do you not have to complete the entire move at 22:49? Thanks
This is a good game but when it comes to abstract strategy, The Duke is far superior.
Nerds!
my fingers are smelly:(
