The confessor, prophet and astrologer classes are the most attractive options to me. But I think I would have to choose the confessor. Despite the confessor being skilled in stealth I would like to rather focus on magic, incantations and melee combat. Being skilled in mainly using incantations but still having some degree of skill in sorcery, while also being skilled and frequently using one hander swords and spears.
@@b_nast19 currently now my build is a int faith hybrid where I focus mainly on being a spell caster and throwing a bit of melee in every once in a while. Using golden order greatsword, sometimes moonveil and sword of night and flame
In the end, the class honestly doesn't matter at all. It determines how easily you go through the first few hours of gameplay...That's really it. After you get some levels and get your build started you honestly forget what class you picked anyway. I had to go on my Sword Caster real quick to see what class I picked for him. I picked Hero, but I am an INT build, and it works incredibly well, given I started with so much STR and DEX, adding INT to that pre-existing stat pool made him incredibly versatile for down-the-line spell casting. @Robert Rice you clearly weren't around in a few of the dark souls games they dont nerf often but yes it does happen ,and around launch is the most likely time i would assume
After watching this, I am 100% doing the Vagabond. I like the fact that I can use heavy armor with ease while also being a tank and dealing a good amount of damage. I honestly thought the warrior would be the same thing but I don't like the fact that it's better with duel wielding and wears light armor.
I was stuck between Prisoner and Astrologist. I wanted to do the concept of Lite Mage, where I had some martial protection while being able to use magic. Being me, I would have done Astrologist, but I wanted to try prisoner because its different. Also, I made the iron mask concept with one eye hole work by making the covered pink and my character's captors saw it as an Evil Eye
Are you liking Prisoner so far? I’m also stuck between Astrologist and Prisoner cuz I like magic but I think I wanna go something more hybrid that’s uses magic and melee combined to have a more versatile and non repetitive play style. What do you think about it? I haven’t started the game yet. Also I didn’t like the Prisoner mask, can you take it of visually keeping the stats or find another head equipments with another type of visual but with stats that still fitting a Prisoner type of build?
@@ricardotorquato I really enjoy the Prisoner class! The magic/melee combo works super well for me, and I'm having a lot of fun with it. I originally tried confessor, but felt really limited with the majority-magic focus, and prisoner's starting spell is actually really, really good even in mid-game. I will say the helmet is actually pretty good in early game stats-wise, but it can't be "visually unequipped" (but ofc you can unequip it entirely and wear something else). For early game it's the best helmet, but venture out of the starting area a bit and you'll find much better. Overall- highly recommend prisoner!
I want to play around with magic in Elden Ring but my biggest concern is running out of mana and not having flasks to replenish. Feel like I’m always being pigeon-holed into a str/vig/end build
Dont worry, you get more flasks later on, and the three flasks you start with are more than enough to cast plenty of starter spells. Im a sorcerer/astrologer and im doing fine
Magic in this game is really amazing compared to its predecessor, basically ill go with melee focus on soulsborne, but ill try hybird melee and little bit magic, confessor it is then!
The Magic Glintblade spell that Prisoner starts with is really useful for hitting enemies who like dodge or block. They’ll dodge when you first cast it, but since it has a delayed effect, they won’t dodge the actual attack. The delay is useful against shields because you can cast it in front of them, then circle them around so the spell is facing their back and bypasses their shield. It’s also great for horseback combat because you don’t have to face your target when casting, just be target-locked. Be sure your enemy isn’t too far away from it by the time it fires off and try to line them up so the spell doesn’t miss since it fires in a straight line. Lastly, the spell can be charged for increased damage, but it also increases the delay, which can be useful because if you cast an uncharged glintblade right after a fully charged one, they’ll both fire off about the same time to hit an enemy twice. Obviously you don’t need to start as Prisoner to get this spell, but it’s a nice class either way.
Going to go with Prophet, support and assisting or killing is what I love and if I can be of use to any team or even just by myself with incantations and healing then I’ll be more than happy
I see that dexterity has benefits for incantations / magic cast speed, while strength doesn't give any benefit. Is it more optimized to go faith/dex than faith/strength ?
It is a fair assumption. Traditionally it has been better in souls games to go with magic/dex rather than magic/strength because of the magic cast speed. However, strength comes with bonuses to physical def to balance it out.
If somebody reads this now : dex/faith is great but don't 100% neglect strength. I kept strength at bare minimum at first and could use like 10% of my weapons, I then restat my character and bumped it to 24 (from the starting 12 of prophet) and I can now wield 90% or my weapons, the game is MUCH more fun this way.
This is mean to say, but whoever was showcasing the classes was not ready to showcase them, as they literally never use the jump button, even when fighting airborne enemies.
ohhh interesting, cuz it was strength in the network test right? i actually kinda liked that idea but oh well endurance is what we're used to anyway mostly
So torn between confessor and samurai. Leaning confessor because I'd like to be able to more practically build into using spells. But that samurai gear is super tempting.
For anyone wanting to use incantations, here are some i reccomend getting early on: flame sling, sold by brother chorynth(i probably misspelled that) poison mist( i forgot where i got this but it'll let you cheese a late game boss) and the incantation sold by the turtle at church of vows (this is a healing spell that gradually heals you and any ally in the spell radius). Also most of the healing spells arent worth it just use your flask
i’m going to be a confessor, hoping that the faith offensive skills are equal or better than pyromancies from ds3. while i play, im gonna be on the lookout for scythes. i hope there is a very grim looking scythe in this game with some cool weapon art. however, depending on if the MLGS looks better than/as good as it did in BB/DS3, i will be using that instead.
Idk about you, but I’ve been having a bit of a weeb moment; the class I might choose is Samurai. Then again, any class you feel is right for you would be fine, but for me, I’ll carry my katanas & bow on this grueling journey through the Lands Between.
I think you are wrong here. Wretch starts off as level 1 but a vagabond for example starts from level 9. You can put your specs into a minmaxing build if you are playing Wretch without much consequence and it is even better to have good starting stats across the board.
@@WizAquila Exactly, and I'm glad the video pointed that out. Having flat 10's on everything as opposed to leaving your undesirable stats at an 8 or 6 (whatever it starts at) is just less favorable for those who truly want maximized numbers. I would say given it's flat 10's and the fact that others have confirmed respecs down the line, I do think Wretch is a great starting class if your goal is to dip your toes into multiple different builds by the end of the first playthrough. It has the opportunity to be versatile in everything and respecs will help it do just that.
Your clips of the bandit only showed them using their shield to block, but it's an exceptional parry shield, which combos well with the high critical damage of your dagger.
my friend uses samurai, he's mentioned that he wishes he picked mage but that it samurai is the most balanced class (hid words, idk if true) and that you can profit a lot on bleed damage with katanas. He specs mostly into dex and has a bit of faith for some items and int for this one spell he loves (it's a lighting spell that you throw like zeus)
Ok I chose the Warrior, aiming to be a quick hitting fighter, but I found myself putting some points into Faith so I can use Fire Incantations while using a single longsword(with 2 Hands) for good damage. You can play any style you want regardless of which class you choose, but itll be a challenge to reach those points you need with some grinding
I’ve always had the same strategy for the souls games…find the biggest, heaviest, most hard hitting weapon I can possibly find, and pulverise my enemies into the ground. Although I couldn’t do that in sekiro and I enjoyed it just as much.
For anyone wanting to experience something Interesting should play the wretch for their first playthrough. You can only experience thus play style once imo. Because after your first run you know where most the stuff is.
except after you meet the first merchant you have a full set up. You're just wasting a character slot imo. Stop repeating other people's opinions without thinking about it.
@@FKyoutubeSERIOUSLY what I meant is during your first play through you don't know where anything is. For the most part at least, so your finding and using whatever you can get your hands on yo stay alive. It also gives a chance to use items that you never would have otherwise. Even if its just for a hour or so till you find something better.
For your first playthrough you should always pick wretch. I’m focusing on strength and dex until I can respec and finally choose what to specialize in. You can just make a pvp save later.
Definitely. They all seem good. I usually like a melee based play style, but throughout the run put points into my stats to boost my magic so I have a bit of both.
I chose samurai due to pure instincts, I just think samurais are cool, probably not my best decision as later when I start new games find better classes that suit my play style, but my main file is still up and it’s going great!
However with the Blood loss effect from Bandit, it’s a really good class when higher up in the game if you like to be really hands on in gaming, like me. Plus the gear you can obtain makes dodging and rolling much easier.
I find the hero class the most compatible to my gameplay, close and personal combat. If I find a bow on my travels I'll practice and sharpen up my range skill as I go but otherwise, hero is my class
Definitely gonna go with Samurai, never played a souls game and I’m hoping to get this game, but dexterity has always gone well for me in any “soul-ish” games, and also the drip on samurai is just badass. Can’t wait to play though, the game looks amazing and I’m glad it’s doing well so I won’t feel bad spending money on the game
Went warrior then grabbed demi human staff and a longbow, and violently dumped runes into INT/Mind. I can fight pretty much however I want in any given situation, and I can do it all worse than anybody that specialized in it. I highly recommend this especially if Elden Ring is your first Souls game like me. :/
I like how most of the items that you find in chests have a message written next to them, which reads "Why is it always sorcery..." with dejection gesture!! I know the pain.....
But the wretch starts at lvl 1 with even stats so you get the most options and best spread for midmaxing in pvp and pve. So I whole disagree with the wretch class assessment.
So, its a little complicated, but their assessment is correct. Other classes start at a higher soul level, but they have stats that are below 10, which means those stat points are used somewhere else. So lets say you’ll NEVER use spells, starting with the Hero who has a 7 in intelligence means you have 3 more points allocated to something else, whereas the Wretch ALWAYS has 10 in everything, meaning you’re just losing a few points in the stat that you aren’t going to build towards.
@@TheProdigalSaint I can see your point but having higher base stats at a lower level with a higher amount of points to put into a build definitely is a more statistical advantage. There is no actual down side when it comes to points and characters statistics. I mean your not waisting points even if you don't use a stat with wretch or a class that starts similar to it. Because you have a better base spread and you get more points to use. In my opinion the only advantages from not choseing wretch for lvl focused pvp/pve is one you start with armor and a weapon and it takes less time to actual meet meta levels for builds. So I can understand why you and the channel think the way you but I respectful disagree with your points. There are not waisted points or unoptimal points in the wretch starting class.
@@legendaryfiendlord7738 you don't get more points to use, a wretched starts at lvl 1 with 80 points total and a samurai starts at lvl 9 with 88 points total, in the end they have the same amount of points, but samurai has a few stats below 10
you simple dont understand were im coming from. no stat is below 10 and you start at a lower level so your levels have a large range versitly while also granting a more protective bubble of definisive stats. say we both reach lvl 120 on a strength build. the wretch would have higher definisve stats than the samurai because no stat is below 10 while the samurai would have stats lower than 10. faith arcane int. all these stats effect damage abosbtion and in elden ring were players no longer need to pump a stat for spell slots do to items allowing for spells. its even more important to have that free definisive bost more than ever. you get more beacuse all of your basses are coved and get better control over stat distriubtion. dont let the tottal number trick you.

Any tips?
@@Exotic5757 he literally said go any class. Wdym "any tips"?
All shields have the same "parry window", so aggressive players shouldn't shy away from massive turtle shields like in the past.
Greatshields could not parry, only bash.
bucklers have the highest parry window
is this confirmed or conjecture/assumption? Seems that the smaller shields have faster yet smaller windows
False
I always roll as a Mage. The magic in Elden Ring looks insane..
Gonna get nerfed a bit before long
@@zechariasthibodeau1473 buzzkill
@ClubLulu lol sorry just wanted to raise awareness 😅
It won't get nerfed, the game is already hard enough. Form Soft doesn't nerf their games.
Finally getting a spellsword starting class - Prisoner all the way baby
Assassin from DS3 was pretty much a spellsword.
@@barstoolbanter7212 and pyromancer
I was stuck between Prisoner and Astrologist. I wanted to do the concept of Lite Mage, where I had some martial protection while being able to use magic. Being me, I would have done Astrologist, but I wanted to try prisoner because its different. Also, I made the iron mask concept with one eye hole work by making the covered pink and my character's captors saw it as an Evil Eye
I did similar with it being purple and scarred.
This was very helpful for somebody who has never played a Darksouls game but was properly intrigued by this. Thanks!
I want to play around with magic in Elden Ring but my biggest concern is running out of mana and not having flasks to replenish. Feel like I’m always being pigeon-holed into a str/vig/end build
Magic op in elden dw
Bro how’s the prophet class, I thought about choosing it but I’m not sure, is it good?
@@FaiDEu no i have try with prophet he is bad
Definitely going prisoner. I want to cast magic and turn enemies into Swiss cheese with pokes
I see that dexterity has benefits for incantations / magic cast speed, while strength doesn't give any benefit. Is it more optimized to go faith/dex than faith/strength ?
No one know the answer
It is a fair assumption. Traditionally it has been better in souls games to go with magic/dex rather than magic/strength because of the magic cast speed. However, strength comes with bonuses to physical def to balance it out.
It seems like strength allows you to weird heavier hitting weapons better
If somebody reads this now : dex/faith is great but don't 100% neglect strength. I kept strength at bare minimum at first and could use like 10% of my weapons, I then restat my character and bumped it to 24 (from the starting 12 of prophet) and I can now wield 90% or my weapons, the game is MUCH more fun this way.
Small correction: Boosting strength doesn't affect your load capacity.
Gotta naturally increase it by taking more loads all the time

So torn between confessor and samurai. Leaning confessor because I'd like to be able to more practically build into using spells. But that samurai gear is super tempting.
Great choices! Vagabond and Astrologer looks good to me. Prisoner too
For anyone wanting to use incantations, here are some i reccomend getting early on: flame sling, sold by brother chorynth(i probably misspelled that) poison mist( i forgot where i got this but it'll let you cheese a late game boss) and the incantation sold by the turtle at church of vows (this is a healing spell that gradually heals you and any ally in the spell radius). Also most of the healing spells arent worth it just use your flask
I’ll either do Confessor or Prophet. I can’t decide for my first time playing!
I’m going confessor.. I think 😂
I'm doing Confessor, that way I can lean on the Dex as a secondary.
Astrologer here
@@UndercoverCracker same
Astrologer for me, for sure. Prophet is not really a mage
Worth adding: in addition to sword and shield, vagabond also has a halberd.
I want to use a Halberd but also some incantations. Confessor looks about right.
Tip for Bandit unless you really love parrying ditch the buckler because it'll allow you to do a special quickstep move to dodge around the enemy
i’m going to be a confessor, hoping that the faith offensive skills are equal or better than pyromancies from ds3. while i play, im gonna be on the lookout for scythes. i hope there is a very grim looking scythe in this game with some cool weapon art. however, depending on if the MLGS looks better than/as good as it did in BB/DS3, i will be using that instead.
Hello fellow gentleman of culture. A scythe is a fine weapon.
Looking to basically do the same build as you. Good luck brother.
Is a confessor kind of like a paladin? If so that sounds pretty cool.
W comment
there is the winged scythe and normal scythe
Prisoner seems like the one for me. Spell sword right away as well as the fishbowl helmet :D
Idk about you, but I’ve been having a bit of a weeb moment; the class I might choose is Samurai. Then again, any class you feel is right for you would be fine, but for me, I’ll carry my katanas & bow on this grueling journey through the Lands Between.
Saaaaame, especially if it comes with the Uchigatana. I ran that weapon for ALL 3 games whenever I can.

Haven't done much research on spells but I've seen some lightning magic and I'd love to do a lightning swordsman build or a fire swordsman build
I think you are wrong here. Wretch starts off as level 1 but a vagabond for example starts from level 9. You can put your specs into a minmaxing build if you are playing Wretch without much consequence and it is even better to have good starting stats across the board.
The video is right homie. Lmk if you need me to explain, but it has to do with stat spread, dump stats, and level caps.
No, you're wrong, having 10 in every stat is a waste on certain builds
@@WizAquila Exactly, and I'm glad the video pointed that out. Having flat 10's on everything as opposed to leaving your undesirable stats at an 8 or 6 (whatever it starts at) is just less favorable for those who truly want maximized numbers.
I would say given it's flat 10's and the fact that others have confirmed respecs down the line, I do think Wretch is a great starting class if your goal is to dip your toes into multiple different builds by the end of the first playthrough. It has the opportunity to be versatile in everything and respecs will help it do just that.
@@WizAquila Well, this might just be the case. I guess versatility was the word I was looking for. Thank you for the clarification.
yeah was about to say the same thing.
Bandit is actually really good if you want to go min max bleed build plus some scarlet rott incantations
Your clips of the bandit only showed them using their shield to block, but it's an exceptional parry shield, which combos well with the high critical damage of your dagger.
It’s the first “souls” game I’ve played and my first pick was as Wretch. Interesting. I also tried Samurai and will probably stick with that class.
I need a update lol
@@whydoiexist2180 I’ve now stuck to Prisoner class for the time being.
my friend uses samurai, he's mentioned that he wishes he picked mage but that it samurai is the most balanced class (hid words, idk if true) and that you can profit a lot on bleed damage with katanas. He specs mostly into dex and has a bit of faith for some items and int for this one spell he loves (it's a lighting spell that you throw like zeus)

Me knowing full well I'm picking vagabond but watching this anyway because I'm so hyped for it to come out
Ok I chose the Warrior, aiming to be a quick hitting fighter, but I found myself putting some points into Faith so I can use Fire Incantations while using a single longsword(with 2 Hands) for good damage. You can play any style you want regardless of which class you choose, but itll be a challenge to reach those points you need with some grinding
Did Hero and got the blood sword so I had to up dex...atm 21 str 22 vig 17 dex
I’m gonna go for sigil and spear guy, 1. I like magic, especially fast incantation that doesn’t remove short range and block, 2. Spears, gotta love em
I went for this and ducking kept dying
I might run 2 simultaneous builds. I’m thinking a Guts build and a Musashi build since I can’t decide what my initial run will be.
Wretch is gonna be good as a do-anything character. Just as its Deprived brethren before it. Has nothing to do with item locations.
@@lususnaturae881 I'm certain they they know by playing a similar class in previous titles
Wretch isn't good for the first playthrough at all.
I already know what class I want to play! Why can't I stop watching these?!
Having recently finished Ghost of Tsushima, I‘m going with Samurai class.
I always liked playing dual wielding classes with higher armor, but I may just do a complete u-turn and start with a Mage.
For your first playthrough you should always pick wretch. I’m focusing on strength and dex until I can respec and finally choose what to specialize in. You can just make a pvp save later.
I think that every class is fine, you’ll adapt to it even if it’s not even close to the stats you play with in other games.
Am I the only one feeling anxiety by not knowing which character to start with?
You can easily make a case for each one of them..
Definitely. They all seem good. I usually like a melee based play style, but throughout the run put points into my stats to boost my magic so I have a bit of both.
And you can respec in the mirror at Round Table hold! It’s easy to miss. Just go up to the mirror and examine it! It’s the hugging lady’s room!
WOOOOOOOOOOOO YEA BABY THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT IVE BEEN WAITING FOR
THIS IS WHAT IT IS ALL ABOUT
I’m choosing whichever has the most drip so vagabond, confessor, or samurai may be the go to.
fr I may be tarnished but I will never be dripless
That won't matter in the long run since you'll be swapping new armors being found anyways
i am new to souls like games and i maybe choose between vagabond and confessor because i like both magic and meele
Yea i always used melee and love the fact that with ashes of war we are able to sort of cast spells
As a begginer I think I'm going with the Vagabond.
I chose samurai due to pure instincts, I just think samurais are cool, probably not my best decision as later when I start new games find better classes that suit my play style, but my main file is still up and it’s going great!
definitely picking prisoner, love the design and it works perfectly with my build
I wanted to go samurai because theyre cool, but im gonna go with wretch since starting with nothing and having to build myself up will be more fun
Imagine a game that blended the open world of like Dark Souls/ Dragon’s Dogma mixed with Sekrio’s combat/parrying system.
However with the Blood loss effect from Bandit, it’s a really good class when higher up in the game if you like to be really hands on in gaming, like me. Plus the gear you can obtain makes dodging and rolling much easier.
Anyone else getting griffith vibes from the prisoner class?
Yeah that's what it's based off of, the description of the prisoner class is describing Griffith
I believe it was confirmed at some point in the past that they based character on him.
Need a mod to become Femto and summon the members of the god hand asap
It was probably an homage from Miyazaki to Miura.
I am more the "Prisoner" class type, cause I like to be both a warrior and a sorcerer at the same time and it's cool that way.
"The Prisoner" is giving me strong Griffith from Berserk vibes (after he is imprisoned).
I thought that do when i saw him like wow its griffith

I love samurai and when I heard they were good in this game they ar goanna be my pick when I get the game
