I love this videos so much, it was very helpful, I had to pay attention towards the part you asked him what he needs from a designer. I got curious😊 all the same thanks for the videos I’m a big fan 🎉
I think that he didn't know what he wants from a designer is a lesson to designers as well - especially with the whole fear of ai replacing us - a huge skill to have is anticipating needs, communicating value, and advocating for ourselves.
AND the fluffier version of that ha - so with tarot readers, I've always explained the diff between a "good" one and a "bad" one is sort of like making your friend decide what you want to eat - you're like pizza or noodles? and they choose "wrong" which makes you aware of the right answer - so a bad tarot reader will tell you something you don't believe in and a good one will in a way make your subconscious thoughts conscious and you'll be like yes! - in a way that's just anticipating needs and in a way a designer can do that but through research etc... ha - so in that case the designer that gets it right and makes Andre be all yeah I do need that! is the one he should hire - presuming he needs a designer.
Hey Gina! Great to see that you watched all the way to the end ✌️ I think a lot of businesses don't know what they need, until they meet the right person!
omg this video is just like I'm eating a black angus meat. Thanks for the sharing knowledge about the intersect of busines and ux design Mizko and Andrew! I wish I can collaborate with you all guys someday. #IndonesiaTeamUIUXDesigner
Wow, one of the most insightful videos from your channel so far. You really got to the heart of what separates a UI designer from a UX designer (glossy visuals / business acumen), and what separates a junior designer from a senior one (grand ideas / tactical, incremental problem-solving based on research data). 👍💯 Yes to more content like this!
@@AJ-yj6kdsure, but that’s like making pizzas using only dough. You need multiple methodologies and deliverables to to uncover the truth. Or rather, to minimise risks in decision making, spot new opportunities etc.
Good point about seeking multiple methodologies to uncover actionable insights! ☝️ But do remember that, just like the design process, the research process is never ideal IRL. Especially in a SaaS start-up where user research response rate is not very high, so the business has to rely on behavioural data to keep the user base happy. It's not perfect, but it's still user data.
Great Insights @mizko, I was curious about one thing you mentioned during the convo - "Here is the metrics that we need drive, get started", Don't you think andre's PM and Designer both need to work hand in hand to achieve this goal? I am not saying PM is crucial here but attacking the problem and seeing from a different lense is crucial for both of them. I am raising this concern beacuse UX desginers at an early stage startups hardly get time to work on biggest issues (business). PM could lead the show and Designer can make the right decision to achieve what founders want through design.
Mizko, this video is great. I've often heard people express frustration about Designers not grasping business concepts or struggling to advance in corporate settings due to a perceived lack of business acumen. Could you produce additional videos detailing how to familiarize ourselves with business metrics and growth strategies? While I have a passion for UI, Visual Design, and Design Systems, I'm eager to delve deeper into the business aspects to enhance my value and elevate my career to new heights.
This is very valuable Mizko! I think this type of content is really needed to mature the design discussion because as you said: designers tend to pigeon hole focusing on the latest UI trends but forget about the bigger picture. And this video excels at showing that bigger picture 👍
It's coming! 2024 is loaded with a number of new courses and major updates ✨ The new UI/UX one is very close. We're just finalising a few last things... it's been filmed in 4K so things have taken a little longer than expected 😅
Let me know if you enjoy this type of content and it's new format!
If you do, I'll definitely line up more of these types of videos.
Really into this new format Mizko! Thanks for giving us real-world insight and looking forward to seeing more companies featured soon 👀
Thank you Shania!! 🫶

Solving a UX challenge without involvement of any actual users?
They’re tracking user behavior no?

Yep! I plan to dive into more details with tutorials. I’ll also be launching a data for designers course this year!
