Good video but you’ve missed one critical step. It’s best to run customer testing session to validate your flows, architecture, concepts and key features as early as possible. Doing this with low-fi mock-ups and clickable prototypes helps you learn if your new UX works BEFORE you create hi-fi designs or start writing code. Really good video though with good explanation of designing in the real world 👌🏻.

+1 ! I was going to add a comment about user testing early and often. That said, the video does a great job overall of concisely connecting the UX dots that can otherwise be overwhelming.

    • @Mizko

I agree. There's many different approaches to how we ship features. I actually work with a very Lean UX methodology and framework internally at my agency.

    • @simplyaizhan
      @simplyaizhan 3 роки тому +8

Yes, I agree. But in the real-world, do you have enough time to do so much testing early on? Where do you find users to test those sketches? I am kind of embarrassed to test on others, only my partner and close friends but their opinions seem really biased.

Mostly I disagree but also I'll say it depends on the company and or the project. He's already spoken to customers in his process when he conducted user surveys.
It's really hard to present a potential customer or end user with a sketch or even a low fidelity wireframe (that has no words or content) and ask their opinion.

THIS!!!! I'm coming to this field with quite a bit of experience but I didn't even know that what I've been doing was UX. So I've found it hard to focus while in bootcamps and classes because they drag along with a lot of repetition. But THIS... THIS is what I needed to know... what are the key phases of the process.... period... quick, simple and to the point. This was very validating and affirming. You just gained a new subscriber.

Always curious to get other designers' takes on the process. 👍
One reaction to a comment near the end about cutting corners; it's true that many clients will want/try to cut corners, and there are often some steps that can shortened, but personally, if a client wants to mortally wound the UX with too much blood letting, I'll usually let them complete it without me, or if I can foresee the issue, not even take projects that don't treat UX seriously. If all they want is high fidelity wireframes day one so their programmers can get started, I'm not their guy, and happy to leave that gem of a client for the next designer 🤷🏻‍♂️😈

Hey, Michael good to see you on UA-cam. This is a great video! I added this video for our new UX team member onboarding process document and asked them to must subscribe to your channel .
    Questions.
    1. Sitemap VS IA.
I'm working at an enterprise company. Generally, IA is usually done at the initial 'Planning' phases of the project with many stakeholders (Business stakeholder, Solution architecture, Platform or Product owner) to organise and structure all relevant entities. Also, it helps business defining project scope, budgeting and resourcing. Once we have done the IA then we create a sitemap (based on user & business needs, data analytics and research such as card sorting). So I thought IA is more Planning stage and Sitemap is Conceptualise stage. What's your thought?
    2. Early-stage testing
I think we should test wireframe with users to validate our solutions before jumping into the 'Design' stage.
    3. Structure stage
There is 'Structure' stage between 'Conceptualise' and 'Design' Stage in your process diagram. However, I couldn't find the 'Structure' stage. in detail.
By the way, Thanks again for the great video!

Thank you for breaking the steps into small understandable pieces !! I also like how you wear a shirt with Mizko name on it. I just want to quickly confirm, so we have the scope and scoping framework first Before we have the problem space and then Problem statements, then once we have problem statement we choose appropriate research techniques such as survey /interview etc to validate our problem statements? Cause I get confused whether we do research first, or we have the problem statement first? Or we have the scope first or it doesnt matter which one as all of them in the research phase? Thank you

Hi Mizko, you explained things so clearly and I was impressed by your presentation. But as for me, I'm working as a product designer, this process is not totally exact. I think this proceess will be applied well in designing something like a web, or small app, when you work alone and your role is to decide the whole architecture of the site. When it comes to digital product, like a webapp or a big mobile app with so many features inside of it, the architecture isn't usually decided by yourself. As for my case, my role is design just some features of the site. I have to sketch, define the flow of the feature, but not the whole architecture.
