Going back home after 2 years of living abroad 🏃♀️ (aka. an attempt to confront my traumas)

- Home is where the heart is. But sometimes, the heart can’t have what it wants- unless it leaves where it called home.
Being away for two years changed many aspects of my life. I’ve learned to adapt to living in a new country but still can’t let go of the fears of returning home and not meeting my parents' expectations. As the eldest in my family, being Asian and abiding by filial obedience is like a 1+1 deal. My love for my family was caging me from seeing who I really was until I decided to move abroad, and finally tap into my sense of self.
Now that I’ve established a much healthier headspace here, going home triggers every landmine I’ve buried down memory lane. I wanted to enjoy my trip for what it is- a chance to reconnect with family and friends. But am I prepared to deal with the imminent clash between my vision for the future versus theirs?
For better or worse, my two cents are overlaid on a 9-minute montage of my homecoming trip.
