    Thanks for the tip. I’m trying the ridgid leveling system. I put them in at the end of the day and they seem to back out some over night. I also am clumsy and end up breaking some. I kicked one then turned around to see where it went and broke another one. I can pull the broken ones out but new ones will not go back in. I am going to try this. Do you have a video about using your margin trowel to clean along the tile edge before placing the levelers and putting down next tile.

    I have used the grout removal tool to clean out a space then just cut off a little bit if the ‘wing’ on the spacer clip… think I saw this on one of the Sal D videos. Either way, love ur work and generous pointers!

    I was leaving them in before I wrap up for the day, making sure my tile edge was perfectly clean of thinset, push the leveling spacer in and still the next day all my spacers would be just a bit to far out and I’d have to break them all out, I’ve used your method but have just decided to set that 1st row the old fashion way ... rubber mallet and pulling my hair out 👍🏼

      Save yourself the hassle by using your clip to scrape out the thin set before you leave, sometimes the clip won’t fit in exactly the next day so I just get my snips and take an 1/8 off the clip and it sits in perfect.

    • @LandbergTileTV

      Using the grinder to cut out thinset under the tile is way too aggressive and dangerous, the oscillating tool works the best from our experience.

    • @christiancuyno8063
      @christiancuyno8063 6 років тому

      the offset on those grinders and the size of those grinders ( as well as the torque ) makes them unwieldy and difficult to control, the main reason for not using a grinder to do that task is that grinder wheels only operate in a circular motion, the multi tool operates in a side to side short stroke motion, which would not crack the tile VS the torque and motion of a grinder.

    Use the triangle shaped bit it’s the same thing shaped like a triangle it has more forward space to achieve the depth length of the leveling clip. I set them before I leave that day but sometimes they aren’t perfect and have to be repositioned.

    • @LandbergTileTV
      @LandbergTileTV  5 років тому

      We do that also, but when dealing with large floors, the clips tend to sag or move and when we show up the next day, the tiles don't set right.

      I install a "dummy course" at the end of the day. Basically install the clips and a row of tile (with out thinset). The tiles will hold the clips in place as the thinset cures.....

      Hee Haw this is exactly what I do by using a clip to dig out the thin set, yes Landberg occasionally the thin set settles after I leave, but I use my snips to take about an 1/8 off the clip and it fits perfectly, no dust no mess and done in a fraction of the time and also eliminating the chance of mistakes if there’s underfloor heat cable.

  • @HearMeLoudNclear
    @HearMeLoudNclear 5 років тому

    First you gotta learn to use a grinder. Wheel on upside down and cutting with the wrong side as well. If that blade catches and kicks, it’s coming straight at you. Wrong.

    Why don’t you just leave them in before you leave

    • @LandbergTileTV
      @LandbergTileTV  6 років тому

      We do that sometimes, but most times the clips/spacers do not sit tight up against the tile when we come back the next day to install. When we start to install, we see inconsistencies in the size of the grout lines as well as lippage. This has been the best solution after trying all options. 👊

      Sal the tile guy sets a tile against the clips before he leaves for the night.

    • @LandbergTileTV
      @LandbergTileTV  5 років тому

      Sal has a video on this and he does a lot of different things and methods. I think he uses a multi tool as well with different bit attached to it. If you leave it the night before, it doesn't sit perfectly when you get back the next day and usually you have to remove the clips.

  • @mwalt7
    @mwalt7 6 років тому +3

    Why not just cut the plastic clip a 1/4”?

    • @LandbergTileTV
      @LandbergTileTV  6 років тому

      Cutting the clip would be an extra step in circumstances where let's say you had a 20 foot run with porcelain planks and needed to insert 40 clips. Use the grinder for a quick cut on the diamond bit and you will avoid the extra step of having to cut all 40 clips. 👊

  • @smash72cutlass30

    Why do your guys struggle with lippage? I cant deny the clips make it easier but lippage should be unacceptable if an installer has any pride in his work. I know not everyone does.
    Its hard to find employees who put in the effort

    • @vapdivrr5656
      @vapdivrr5656 4 роки тому +1

      I dont care if you have the best installer that ever was and the most perfect level floor, your still going to have bad lippage with long planks because they are bowed to start. The clips can split all the differences and actually flex the planks until dry

    • @amattson6578
      @amattson6578 2 роки тому

      @@vapdivrr5656 Thats true to a degree. I rarely use level clips and my floors and walls have zero lippage. Zero. With that being said the clips do come in handy for long planks that are bowed. Thats really the only time i use them these days. I will say though that if youre using quality sticky thinset like customs prolite or mapei's ultralite and you backbutter and press down on the center of plank where its bowed the thinset will actually hold the tile straight. So clips or no clips its still possible to get no lippage even with bowed planks.
