Hey bud I just did a job 8in x 4ft tile. I used spin doctor for the first time. Up to the grouting stage I was happy. But i knocked the stems out the next day on half the job and on the third day grouted and found that the spin doctors were forcing the tile under pressure and ends began popping up. I troweld and back buttered and never thought this would happen. The company set the job to install over a ardexed plywood that previously had smaller tile.
Any idea why this happened and how to prevent it...
@@jesussavedrjm6818 ... What do you mean by saying the ends popped up?
@@kylelove927 it lost its bond cause the tile was under pressure down to be level
@@kylelove927 the ends of the tile popped up in s few places
That link leads to a completely different tile levelling system which works on a wholly different principle.
Been a residential remodeler for over a decade. First used these 6 months ago on a large job for my new business. I'll never install large format tile again without these. Made the 24"x24" tiles go down completely flat and level. You can slide a 5 gallon bucket 30 feet across the tile without it catching a lip. Truly amazing. Saves so much time.
I'm familiar with getting cement to the correct consistency as I've been a mason for too long. A question I'm trying to cut a corner and removing my tub. Just having the space now a shower with 17" square tiles. Have a marine plywood floor. Before I put down the top bed ready to tile, could I use a wall board cut to size and screw it down like crazy instead of doing it by hand? Then put the 40 mil plastic down and then trowel it as it should be for the tile?
@@HellNoMoreBiden im so confused by the question can you clarify more?
@@Titantitan001 I just did it the right way and just troweled it to slope to the drain and it does drain the water. I didn't want to make a mistake. Any flexing could cause a leak if I put wall cement board on the floor.
These are awesome instructional videos. Minimal talk, clear explanation of the content and easy to watch in one sitting. Thanks for all you do!
Wish I had these in 2004 when I installed large tile in my bathroom. Thanks for the instruction.
I learned something new. Will be applying it to my bathroom renovation project. Thank you.
Having done tile for several years now on my own projects and projects for friends and family, Ive always used the wedge system, never the spindal, but plan on trying the spindal for my shower remodel coming soon! Awesome to see how the mud adheres with each system via the clear tiles. Awesome stuff brother! Appreciate it!
Finally! A straight to the point video with great visuals! Thanks for sharing this!!
A lot of work to help your fellow man, thank you.
Thank you sir, appreciate the kind comment 👊
This is the 2nd video I've seen on the Rigid leveling clips....I'm glad that they've started to give us a break on doing ceramic, glass or stone walls and get them smooth.
Hello mate, Pro Tiler from England here. Just a little tip. Tile lippage clips help on near enough flat walls and floors, but some DIYers might watch this and use these on bumpy surfaces which is when problems occur, as the clips either raise up the previous low tile or bring down a raised tile, creating air sockets underneath. All you need to do is knock on the tile and you will hear the hollow points. Also dont knock the clips out with a rubber mallet especially on a lighter ceramic tile as the mallet can leave black marks which are a pain to clean off. Polished porcelain you might get away with but just a tip. Good luck mate wish you all the best 👍
Interesting to hear from a professional! Do you use a levelling system yourself? And why do you/do you not use it? Just being curious :D
@@mart9585 I’ve been tiling 11 years. I only use self leveling clips for anything larger than 12x24 because it helps to keep the tile plum and level. The cons to using it are if the wall isn’t plumb or flat than it will cause voids in the thinset behind the tile and causing the tile not to adhere properly.
Awesome point . Level or grind the high spots first . Good on ya
@@AllBayEveryDay The clips don't cause that the poor substrate does.
Thanks for the tip on removing the extra thin set from the edges. That explains why I was having trouble with compressing the trowel lines on the bottom of my first row of tile on my bathtub (large format). Luckily I was smart enough to pull them off the wall and try again today after watching some videos
I second that. Such a simple thing, I don't why I didn't think of it...
This is the first I’ve heard of these systems. Holy crap! Game changer here. I’m not up on the latest for sure, I’ll be loading up on these! Excellent demonstration, thanks!
I've also used a box of wooden matches these last decades at a cost of 50c/p for the whole job :)
I started a tile job using the home depot wedges. After about 10 foot by 10 foot area switched to the screw on Marshalltown leveling system. The Marshalltown are easy to install and if you have a problem they are easy to back off to either remove or add more mortar if needed, The wedges have a tendency to grab the tile and push them apart if you are using a grippy tile. The tool will also wreck your hand if you use it a lot.
While these to a good job of keeping the edges of the tiles even, you can still have an uneven floor when you are done, which will show up when you install baseboard. Always check your tiles with a level to make sure you have them flat and even with each other.
Both do have the occasional tendency to not break off cleanly as you can see right here 8:56 where he says they break off cleanly, when they clearly did not. The little piece of plastic can be cleaned up with a multi tool or a sharp razor knife, just be very careful to to chip the tile.
Great videos all the times with lots of positive energy, thank you very much.
Thanks for taking the time to make these videos. Great stuff.
Thank man. I am about to start tiling a wall, greate information.
Impressively and simple demonstration. Answered my question

Absolutely and won't ever fight the big tile issues again thanks you!
The sky is the limit with this channel. You know ur stuff dude 👍🏻
Thank you sir! 👊
Wow that was awesome! I almost feel like I can actually do this myself! I subbed and like
I use spin doctors exclusively and they are killer, you forgot to mention using a cap to run between tiles to check lippage and break a post of the base is ideal for cleaning grout lines.and one should always especially LFT use a rubber mallet and smack each tile a bunch from center out to release air it’s unreal how much is trapped great videos non the less, thank you!!
Subscribed. I watched several of your videos. Love the way you cut to the chase. No bullshit. All killer, no filler.
Excellent video. You made the process as clear as the glass tiles you installed. Thank you.
Thanks! Appreciate the comment and view 👊
Thanks so much, especially for the tip about removing some of the mortar next to the next tile to be installed. Very helpful video.
I agree, this was a great demonstration.
Thanks!!

I've used the spindle type on floors. Its outstanding
Outstanding!! Never thought these were necessary.. But will use on my bathroom.
Please don't
Really appreciate you demonstrating the use both systems. Thanks!!
This was so helpful as I never understood how to use the wedges and spindles. Thanks for demonstrating esp with glass tiles
I like the background music. Makes this video different then most tile videos

Very helpful video. Thank you SO MUCH!!!
Perfectly made video. Thank you.
One of the best tile demonstrations I have seen yet, especially for a short video.
This video is 8 minutes too long
Very professional demostration. Thanks for take your time using glass instead tile. I’m your new fan.
Thanks so much! 😊

Glad you enjoyed it!
Watching from the Philippines ..thanks a lot for the nice idea!
Nice demo,good job!
nice loud and clear
The spin ones are sweet! Perfectly flat installation.
Great vid, showing usage
I can’t explain how important it is to back butter the tiles when installing tiles on any surface. Also, u definitely wants move the tile side to side too release all the air from under the tile before moving onto the next tile. I can’t tell you how many tiles I repair because of a simple step not taken.
Completely agree.
Thank you for your wisdom and knowledge 👊🏽💯
But you just explained it?
Damn right!!
The thinset he used was dry and not that wet. No need to back butter if you mix your thinset correctly
Great video. Thank you!
Nice demo, using glass sure makes it easier to grasp the concept..good job 👍
Thanks! It was a tricky demo and the glass definitely gives you a closer look with a leveling system 👊
StarrTile 9
is that bob doyle lol 🤣🤣 smh
I agree. I just did my first shower tile job with LFT and bought both these systems but didn't end up using them because I wanted a 3/8" grout line and I never saw this demo. Great video, I will keep these kits for the next job..
With the glass demonstration it also shows that you can remove the systems without causing damage to the tile. I figured that glass would crack.
Great demonstration, 2 thumbs up.
Thanks it's very comprehensions . i'm from France .
Very professional and time saving system !
Nice ,simple mock up....people that don't know how to set should be thanking you for this....Im glad I charge 10 $ a sq ft because I hate setting tile.
Thanks buddy! 👊
A clear demonstrate , thanks .
Loved the closeup at 7:04
Ha! Happy you noticed the small editing close up clip! 👍

👊 Appreciate the nice comment. Happy you enjoyed!
Thank you so much for sharing your knowledge brother
Thank you for the view and comment brother! 👊
You are the man. Thanks a lot. Blessings to you.
Thanks, you too!
Thank you...not in tile biz but if it was me I would definitely come up with something on a drill to spin the Rigid ones...like a socket with 4 notches
thank you sir! 👊👊👊
That would make the job even harder!
Would make it slower and a chance to over tighten and crack the tiles. I think it is better because you have a finer adjustment with your fingers that with the tools but thats just me
@@MrJFoster1984 you can't crack the tile by over tightening - the clip fails before that. but then you have to struggle to get a new clip in that spot.
a drill adaptor to remove the cap after would be helpful.
Awesome! Informative!
Thanks Landberg Tile TV..
You bet!
wonderful tutorial.
Wow. Awesome demonstration!
Glad you liked it!
Quality video!
Quality video. Using glass also shows the % of adhesive holding the tiles
@@l.k.3277 I'll write something less lame. He doesn't have the proper amount of adhesion if you look at the glass. He could of at least fooled the viewing public if he just used a tile product that you couldn't see through.
@@lostinmyspace4910 He doesnt have the proper adhesion because he laid the tile incorrectly. He should have rocked the tile back and forth perpendicular to the trowel lines to smooth it out and get as close to 100% contact as possible.
Nice job with video!. Thank you!
thank you sir
Good job, buddy.
Amazing!
Thanks brother
