Rick Turner played significant role in the design of the wood work and electronics of all guitars and basses produced until he departed for Turner Guitars. Tiger was a much greater guitar and far more synonymous with Jerry than Wolf. He used Wolf for 6 years. He used Tiger for 11 years as his #1, and then used it intermittently thereafter.
Olecranon Rebellion Tho I am wholly on board with the cause and who is receiving the money I don’t think something as iconic as Jerry Garcia and his most beloved guitar should be politicized. At the same time the only thing really political about the Southern Poverty Law Center is that they’re anti fascist.
ok around 5 minutes i see the politicized part .. but to be honest .. Jerry didnt support racism or the KK and Neonazis .. and to be honest no matter how full of shit the southern poverty law center is ... with all their lies and twisting of truth about matters .. Jerry never supported those hate groups .. "Aint no time to hate barely time to wait" sooo
iMO Jerry's best sound came from his Travis Bean guitar in 1976-77. Then his '57 strat, then Wolf, and then Tiger. Just my opinion but I think that Jerry's tone suffered as he got into solid state amps, effects, synths. He sounded best with a Gibson or Fender into a tube amp like a Twin Reverb or Mesa Mark I turned to 11. Natural overdrive. Not a bunch of effects to have to deal with.
A guy I ran into while seeing some live show with a local band in Columbus OH said he was Jerry's guitar tech for 8 years. He also said that guitar was just a heavy, screwed up log that was constantly shorting out and needing neck adjustments.
Way to spit on a mans legacy by politicizing his most beloved instrument, which brought so much love to the heads and hearts of millions. Wolf and tiger should go to the Smithsonian or back to the band. Jerry didnt give a shit about government, go back and read/watch his interviews.
@@MisakaMikotoDesu so you're saying I support hate. Jerry did not like politics (go back and look up interviews) and the band was fighting to get those guitars back. A lot of people pissed at this situation. Understandable. But don't forget this is the US, where everything has a price and if happens not to, it's worth nothing. Jerry probably had a good giggle over this.

Jason Racey He played it from what 73 to 79? along with the Travis Bean (which to many is pretty primo Dead, everyone talks about Tiger but no offense to many a Deadhead but many shows (and years) from the 80s were un listenable. I prefer the Travis Bean to either of them.
It’s the one from the movie and played through the wall of sound pretty iconic Tiger was more of his retirement old ago guitar I like the Alligator, and sunburst Strat tone and Wolf Jerry left it to Irwin and he needed money so this how it ends up where it is today nothing anybody can do about it but yeah it needs played
1:56 Noodling? Wanker. The guy on the right is asking about the unique SOUND of the guitar. Why they set it up the way they did. It’s obvious the guy in the left knows feck all about guitars.
Got to see Jerry play Wolf in 89. Was Righteous. Tiger was either being repaired or he was waiting for Rosebud. Wolf is absolutely beautiful but I think Tiger was the one. Who are these idiots talking about guitar on this show anyway? They are lame. Lame lame. The Bean Guitar has as almost as much history as Wolf.
@@veek.6463 The "quilted" look of maple occurs on the leaning side of a maple from the massive amount of weight of the tree pressing down on the trunk causing the cambium layer to "ripple" in a horizontal manner. I'm pretty sure that the flash look is caused from the vertical forming cells being smashed downward horizontally which when a varnish is applied catches and refracts the light.
The SPLC IS a hate group. All they do is target people and organizations they disagree with politically and brand them as "hate groups". I love the Dead. I love Jerry. Have been listening to and collecting live shows for over 25 years. 74' and 77' are two of my favorite years, when Jerry and The Wolf were in their prime.
Olecranon Rebellion jerry was 1000% apolitical.
i see no politics in this so far ... so what are you talking about?
ok around 5 minutes i see the politicized part ..
but to be honest .. Jerry didnt support racism or the KK and Neonazis ..
and to be honest no matter how full of shit the southern poverty law center is ... with all their lies and twisting of truth about matters .. Jerry never supported those hate groups ..
"Aint no time to hate barely time to wait"
sooo
Southern Poverty Law Center has since been found to be corrupt and racist kind of ironic huh.
So glad it went to someone who cares for the history behind the GD world. man, if i ever had a couple million it would have been mine❤🐢
iMO Jerry's best sound came from his Travis Bean guitar in 1976-77.
I pretty much agree though I'm partial to the wolf and a tossup between the Travis Bean and the Fender "Alligator".
dont forget the peanut
i love jerry and wolf!
p.s.
splc does not care, does not fight for which it claims. it is a hateful propaganda company now.
splc B L O W S
Jesus. I would give 20 million to own this if I had it. Unfortunately.. I don't. It is a timeless piece of rock n roll history.
it was the indian not the arrow
There is nothing worse than a sanctimonious hippie. This this comment box is full of them....
A guy I ran into while seeing some live show with a local band in Columbus OH said he was Jerry's guitar tech for 8 years. He also said that guitar was just a heavy, screwed up log that was constantly shorting out and needing neck adjustments.
that guy was bsing you
@@garyphelps9123 not with all the pictures of him, Jerry and Phil Lesh at Jerry's house that he showed me.
HAHAHA jerry had the same tech since the 60s for all his bands
RIP Jerry . . . ❤❤❤
How many frets. I noticed John Mayer had one made to be just like it. But it seems his is 24 frets
Noodling? I lost respect for this fool as soon as he said that.
Don't hear much about Rosebud, where is that?
Rosebud is in the R&R Hall of Fame. Along with another of Jerry's Tiger style guitars.
It’s just horrible and sad what happened after Jerry died
agree like it wasnt jerrys bs the band should have done what the will said instead of stressing for cash
I believe Hendrix's Woodstock guitar went for over a $million.
ths times he quit using tiger or wolf was when they were sent back to doug or gary to have them worked on so out came rosebud
Wow! SPLC, can you imagine?!? I remember Weir talking about dealing with Communists in Europe. What a shame.
??
It bears mentioning that Lesh opposed the other members' money grubbing.
Leave it to small hats to peddle
Someone special will end up with "G"....🥀
Way to spit on a mans legacy by politicizing his most beloved instrument, which brought so much love to the heads and hearts of millions. Wolf and tiger should go to the Smithsonian or back to the band. Jerry didnt give a shit about government, go back and read/watch his interviews.
I don't think any of the Grateful Dead members would be support people who hate. Walk your own path, no one else can do that for you.
@@MisakaMikotoDesu so you're saying I support hate. Jerry did not like politics (go back and look up interviews) and the band was fighting to get those guitars back. The SPLC support domestic terrorists groups like antifa. Funny those who say they are anti fascist are the ones acting like fascist. Using violence on anyone that differs from their opinions. They call anyone who disagrees with them a nazi. The SPLC protects these pieces of shit.
This isnt about hate, I am a massive dead head and I think its bullshit what they are doing to Jerry's legacy. I dont support the right or the left, this country is a joke when it comes to politics.
Tax 👏Minimization👏 Strategy 👏
A lot of people pissed at this situation. Understandable. But don't forget this is the US, where everything has a price and if happens not to, it's worth nothing. Jerry probably had a good giggle over this.
Let's see what hendrix' strat would sell for now.
noodling? NOODLING? SIR ILL HAVE YOU KNOW
God how I love hearing this. Jerry ''the Bodhisattva'' Garcia justs keeps on giving.
Put it in The Smithsonian
Never thought there would be so many racists in this comment session. I can garantee you Jerry would supporr antiracism today.
SPLC Vipers
Southern Poverty Law Center is a joke.
you've got to be kidding...
@@sboistan about?
Could not agree more.
Wolf sold for $1.9 million. Wow! Sold to Brian Halligan, CEO of Hubspot. Jerry me!
Wolf has a 'sweeter' tone than Tiger. Love both guitars. Also dig Alligator.
Chris Horton What ever happened to the other 2? Roses and the other one, don’t know the name but I know I saw Jerry play it, it had a skeleton wearing a skirt I think.
Saw Jerry playing Wolf in 89..awesome
@@thomaspowers2482 The one with the skeleton wearing a skirt was Rosebud. Also made by Doug Erwin.
Was one of the guitars just roses?
Missouri Dirt I know there were 4 guitars, just can’t remember what they all were
Not only was jerry the best of the bowl-also the nicest. The Dead could have bought it from Doug-and thus the vaudeville show called DnC continues to stuff their pockets.
I will commit several crimes against humanity to play this guitar
rght on!!!
Jerry played many different guitars. This one is not "legendary". It's not his "most iconic" guitar. He only used it for a couple of years. Also, it belongs in a museum not in someone's man cave.
Jason Racey Wrong...
Jason Racey He played it from what 73 to 79? along with the Travis Bean (which to many is pretty primo Dead, everyone talks about Tiger but no offense to many a Deadhead but many shows (and years) from the 80s were un listenable. I prefer the Travis Bean to either of them.
It’s the one from the movie and played through the wall of sound pretty iconic
Tiger was more of his retirement old ago guitar
I like the Alligator, and sunburst Strat tone and Wolf
Jerry left it to Irwin and he needed money so this how it ends up where it is today nothing anybody can do about it but yeah it needs played
Spooky, allowing the wolf to roam around, to the pyramids and back, for a great cause.
What's wrong with a LP Jr or a Tele? Too many knobs and switches, saying that I do like Jerry's playing.
1:56 Noodling? Wanker. The guy on the right is asking about the unique SOUND of the guitar. Why they set it up the way they did. It’s obvious the guy in the left knows feck all about guitars.
He knows money, money, and money.
In the DARK era. Not in the WOODS
Oh give me a break the Southern Poverty Law Center... what a joke
And another pontificating asshole jumps on the bandwagon cause he doesn't have a fucking clue. Grow the fuck up fool!!
Why did they use high stools?
WE SUPPORT THIS AND WE SUPPORT THAT AND WEEE ARE SO COOL CUZ WEE SUCK
Noodling?? Please...
So , this guitar sold for $1.9 million dollars ?!?!
Id say tiger is more important. He played that longer . Id rather have rosebud or tiger, they are more iconic
Of course, lets politicize everything including Jerry's guitar. This is sickening.
What a nice quilt top...
Please, what is a quilt top on a guitar? Is it the fret board designs. I really love those on this guitar. There are some good photos online. Peace
a blanket of bookmatched quilted maple wood applied to the top of the main body stained and varnished to give a impression of depth a 3d illusion
Iconic yes, but Tiger got more love.
I'm sad now.
It's a shame that an instrument which provided so much happiness, joy, and love to millions of people, is now being used to sow division and hatred.
yup. there's no way Jerry would be cool with this. what a fucking disgrace.
Just more proof that as Zappa said, drugs are a government plot to make people stupid. Can you name one organization on the SPLC's map that is making a positive contribution to American society? I'll wait.
Seth. You are misguided. Do some research.
It should just be played. As a guitarist, I feel like this would ultimately be Jerry's worst nightmare. Not that it was sold at an auction or where the money went. But that it isn't be played.
It's being played now. The new owner is letting alot of guys play it.
loved the Wolf, Travis Bean better.
What a shame. The southern poverty law center? Ugh. Please don't politicize the grateful dead.
unfortunately bob and phil started it with the whole deadheads for Citigroup, er, I mean Obama, thing.
@@leshtricity Fuck off, lame brain.
john mayer?
jerry sounded better on a strat
THE TRAVIS BEAN WAS MY FAVORITE.
@@terrybarrett6785 , Damn straight!
Jerry sounded better on everything he played especially the Banjo and Peddle Steel guitar. Just check out his work on his first solo release Garcia where he plays everything by himself.
Tiger’s set up was just a strat disguised with embellishments
I liked the Strat era Jerry
DIDN'T JOHN MAYER PLAY "TH EWOLF" FOR AWHILE?!!
One show last year.
You can find it on UA-cam and you can hear the difference
ua-cam.com/video/lW7iKqoGEQ8/v-deo.html
That guitar should still be with the members of The Dead. It should be used to play those wonderful songs that were made famous on it.
This guitar has recently been played live by many several players of Grateful Dead music. John Mayer Dead and Company, Stu Allen of JGB and Mars Hotel and Jeff Mattson of the Dark Star Orchestra to name a few.
I always thought it was an Alembic guitar
Alembic started making Doug Irwin designed instruments after these were made... I believe Jerry & Ron Wickersham came up with the electronics for the Irwin guitars. Wickersham started Alembic.
I think blackie sold for more
definitely NOT his most iconic...
Am I the only guitar player that's not crazy about this guitar or the Dead ,
As a guitar player, You dont have to be crazy about the guitar, or the Dead...But Jerry, c'mon.
Yet you're watching this.
You have to admit the dead were cool. Not my favorite but mighty cool.
I saw him play this guitar, shame to see it setting there. He would not have wanted that.
What do you know what Jerry would have wanted?
Who is that? Diet Chevy Chase?
Now a millionaire owns it and it won’t be seen again. Until its next auction. 😩
For as many buttons, knobs, pickups and pedals Jerry used why was his tone always the same?
Scott Baxendale you obviously aren’t really familiar with the music. Compare the tone of Estimated Prophet with the tone from Fire on the Mountain with the tone from Terrapin Station with the tone from I Know You Rider with the tone from Ripple etc. etc. etc.
Cause its in the player's fingers
talk about tone deaf. sir, you should stop with commenting.
Listen to Melk Weg shows from '81 when Jerry uses a Strat.
It wasn't ever
Should give it to trey anasistaio. Let him carry on
