One of Bens best videos. His enthusiasm is infectious. Can we have more guitar history with Ben? So good.
I know Jerry is always associated with wolf, but for me, Jerry is middle pickup strat all day long. Love it Ben, great job.
Travis Bean 76/77 era for me is best Jerry
It's great to see Ben playing electric! 😎
Clearly the right man for the job 🙂 - great to hear from a genuine fan. Great - full vid!
What a wonderful video this is. Thank you to Ben and everyone who let him do it!
Awesome video, it's great to hear Ben on an electric guitar, such a great player! Also I really liked the recommendations for the albums during the explanation about the gear, this is a great addition to your videos so keep it up 😎
one of the most enjoyable videos you guys have put out!
Ben, all the rest of us Dead Heads have been gunning for this vid for a while so so glad you made it!
Saw the Dead in July 71 in NYC which encompassed much of the Europe 72 content and it is a masterpiece !
As an extreme metal fan (and Jethro Tull!) I have to say - Ben is easily the best guitar player on Andertons. I love watching him play, he's so good!
I saw the Dead at Bickershaw in 1972 when Garcia played the original alligator. The best gig ever, it transformed my playing and listening. Whilst everyone worships Garcia, the rest of the band were also brilliant. Phil Lesh and Bobby Weir especially !
Thanks for reviewing this Ben, whilst I’ll never be able to afford the reissue I wonder if you might review the PRS Dead Set strat as used by John Mayer? That’s a fifth of the cost!
Great playing, as the sayings go “Far out man, keep on trucking “
Nice playing, it's a proof I love old school pickups.
My name is Pigsy and I'm a Jerryholic. 😛 Nice to see Jerry getting some respect at Anderton's. Good job!
I never thought I could love Ben more! As a bluegrass playing mega dead head as well I salute you sir!
I love the guitar and It also made me cry.......when I looked up the price
Joyous fun! Thankyou! Superb playing. That Ben guy has the Mojo going on......
Very nice. I think you should do more electric vids.
Absolutely brilliant man. More of this!
WOW! Great video and playing!
Well done good sir. Been impressed with your range with acoustics from the beginning,
Never been a deadhead, but have heard enough to be stunned at how well you captured his essence.
Love Jerry...thanks for the great content
Superb video, and as for the tone and Bens playing, outstanding. I learnt stuff too 😄
I do not really usually like aged guitars, custom shop or otherwise, but this one is amazing! Great playing from Ben as well.
Love it!! More Ben!
Tis is gonna piss some people off: I am not a huge Deadhead, but I have been chasing certain Jerry tones since I started playing. This is one, China Cat is another.
Closest I have heard 'without breaking the bank' is the bridge p'up on my G&L ASAT Classic I got from Musician's Friend on "Stupid Deal of the Day" for $350 played through a small amp with a spring tank.
Just discovered it last week. Still in love.
Greetings from Marin county where the music and scene are still well and alive ! Having been around Alligator and seeing it played a few feet from me (Thanks To Andy!) these custom shops look the part. He took Alligator apart and it's all '55 Strat.
If you need help getting a Blaster to England Ben, Alembic is a short drive from me.
That price tag really pops my monocle. Fender is really leaning into their 'sucker born every minute' strategy.
Relax...not every instrument needs to be priced to your own budget limitations. It's just a guitar...breathe.
@@WhyAlwaysMeMario Can't talk. Still spitting tea.
Wow, what a player you are, I’ve been playing this instrument for nearly 50 years and I will need to keep playing for another 50 to get close to you. Thank you and Andersons for this.
Wanted to make this suggestion for a long time, and now you have a deadhead on staff, so... I wish you would do "Sound like the Grateful Dead" videos. Lots of material there, different eras with different sounds. You carry D'Angelico, which makes the Bob Weir signature guitars. Signature aside, the Weir Bedford is a super versatile tone monster, and both Bob and Jerry played all kinds of guitars, used all kinds of effects over the years. Plenty of material for several videos there. Deadheads will love it, and many of them are musicians...
Excellent video and won’t be able to look at Ben in the same light again - many layers to his onion.
This reminded me so much of a jam session I played bass on, Franklin’s Tower was called up, and after a quick run down from one of the two excellent singer/guitarists who knew it, off we went. At the end of the track, we all kind of looked at each other with a smugness that I don’t recall since - simple, but a great jam track.
Having seen the Dead and Jerry from 89 - 95, I will say that the sounds of the Dead bring back so many wonderful memories. Now I want the Alligator strat in my collection :)
sweet guitar! great opening jam! LOVE Jerry!!
That was some pretty hot playing. I'd say Ben just took the Anderton's title!
I wouldn't go so far as to say I'm a Deadhead but I do absolutely love the band and their history. Fantastic guitar and video. Thanks Ben!
Awesome, Ben! Keep making Andertons let you do videos like this! :D
Great video - Great demos!
Lovely playing!
Wow. Thanks Ben. Huge Deadhead here........ Seems like there's not too many of us in the UK. I think in a way you have to be a fan of Jerry and the band to get the point of this guitar. Yes it's way too expensive for what it is, but it's kind of not important....... Someone is helping to keep the band "alive", and if just seeing this guitar introduces one person to the band, its legacy and it's fabulous music, that's OK with me.
Ben, your enthusiasm is so obvious with that guitar in your hands I love it ! I always liked Jerry's lead licks even though I wasn't a big Grateful Dead fan. Very clean and articulate, with a smooth/subtle tone. I had a few friends that were "DeadHeads" so their music was always available. Nice guitar, but out of my budget for sure.
Ben, you're great with acoustics but its really good to see you playing electric and Garcia was just brilliant. Glad you're a deadhead too. I'd love to see more on the Alembic and Rick Turner story. Good man, thank you.
Great playing!
That was an absolute joy!
Ben is so good and lovely 😍 keep on keeping on x
Lovely playing. Jerry started out playing acoustic and banjo and carried on with this in many of his side projects like Old And In the Way and the Jerry Garcia Acoustic Band. The acoustic Dead tracks are also some of the finest. I wonder if that's why Ben is able to capture Jerry's playing style so well? I would love to hear him play "Ripple".
Ben would be great in every band. Solo acoustic and electric.
Great stuff !
YEEESS!! I love seeing Dead stuff on here, even if it's unobtainable.
God ... would love that guitar ... and to be able to play it like Ben!
Nice playing!
We need u to play this guitar at least once a week. Job well done
Love It. Epic playing. I personally find many of GDs best gig sin 1973.
That price is shocking. Must be because of the decal-stickers. Do I get a discount if I buy it without the stickers ?
Our Ben’s Electric. I bet Ben was dead grateful to make this video.😊
Ben’s gone electric! ⚡️
I personally blame Bob Dylan.
Judas!
What a player
to have such a knowledge and history in guitar under the belt at tbat age really frightens me and I would like to congratulate you for that. I just mentioned what a great player you are.
I am 68 years old and a guitar player. I do not want to sound arrogant, - but I think I know about this. So please keep on your good work. And I hope that Andertons brings you to the forefront more than they have yet. I hope my english wors make sense as a thoroughbred german since birth.
Wow great intro 👏
The price! WOT!!!
The guitar is a winner. Great review.
I saw that guitar in action on the dark star orchestra tour.
I don't really care for the dead. But I've always loved Jerry's tone.
While, by contrast, I love the Dead but Jerry's tone got progressively shriller and worse (to my ears) as the years went by; the alligator strat was perhaps (to my ears) his best tone
That makes two of us. I'm a guitar player and I have very wide-ranging musical tastes...BUT...I never understood...and still don't understand why some people are so attracted to the Dead. I've explored their music here on UA-cam and I'm like "Meh...I don't get it."
@@b.schmidt3701 I think it’s a lot to do with the culture around the band haha
@@daynmitchell7543 If we're talking about "cultures around the band" then I have more respect for Juggalo's. I've never been a fan of Hippies....the one's from the 60's, nor the present-day variation.
@@b.schmidt3701 we have a huge local jam band scene around here. And all the rock and metal bands struggle to get gigs. Cause everyone wants to here that jam band crap haha
I knew this was gonna be a good vid when Ben was ripping over Franklins Tower. He couldn’t sit down during the jam!🤘🏼
Bloody cracking intro
Dude! Save some guitar for the rest of us! Ooof, that opening solo😮
Dang. Great playing! How much for that thing??
What kind of pickups is in it?
My American friend Susan hung out with the band around Haight-Ashbury in '67-'68. jealous?
Give that man that guitar!
For only 20000 Euro
What is the black triangle between the bridge pickup and the knobs? a hole??
I don't see any hole? Just a different material for the controls to be mounted on?
Ben electric 🤩awesome man.
If I buy this guitar, will I be able to play this good?
everyone should frankenstein a guitar at least once. its liberating.
You could always get the PRS Silver Sky Dead modded version would do ya good.
Never connected with the Grateful Dead, so no appeal for me, but it is fun seeing someone who is a fan getting a kick out of it.
Do his other guitars like the tiger!
If I was stupid rich I'd buy it. It's a very cool recreation. But for the classic Jerry Tone, you can get there for pretty cheap these days on a decent Strat or similar guitar.
Why the wire between jack plate and bridge plate?
I believe that is the boost circuit.
Great tones! Don't go check the price, your heart won't stand it! It is a special guitar though. I wonder if they'll sell the boost circuit separate?
Man, Jerry had some great guitars. When he died, I dreamed that he gave me Wolf. :) LOL
It is a really cool guitar though
Captain free video 😂
Eighteen grand? Perhaps just a little bit rich for my blood, but it does sound fantastic
Sound guy was always pushing for better 'cid too.
How much? Is that all? I'll take two.
Roll away the dew!
So the body is a 57 and the neck is a 63?
Its price is really outrageous...
For those with more money than sense I guess. $18k is strictly collector land.
The Original was 250 Usd and this one is 20000 Euro. Nice.
I had a hard run....
I started off on such a “wrong foot” with The Grateful Dead as a preteen kid in the later 60s, when I started really getting into rock. As barely post-toddler, I LIKED The Beatles and I LIKED The Animals, but it wasn’t on a “this is a huge part of my life” basis, lol, but one day I became a huge fan of it. My uncle had a new dozen or 20 albums every time we visited my grandparents, and we’d blast them and my uncle would be telling me all this stuff about them. Okay, I was blown away with the really heavy rock which was starting to appear. Hendrix, Fresh Cream, Blue Cheer’s 1st LP, etc were just kicking my ass in the most fascinating way.
All right, next time over there, I’m scoping out the newest batch of my uncle’s records, when I see an album cover with neon colors, skulls, etc, and it’s by a group called “The Grateful Dead”. Oh, man, a group whose covers look so wild and so psychedelic, and have such a kick-ass band name, they’d have to be TWICE as heavy as Hendrix or Cream! I stuck it on the record player and braced myself for the wildest rock ride I’ve ever had.
The first song sounded like Jim Nabors.
The second song sounded like Ferlin Husky.
Etc etc
Oh, the LP blew my mind, alright, but not at all in the way I was expecting.
Why would a band bother having such a wild, very far out name and have such wild album covers, if they only do soft, normal-sounding music?? It sounded like the kind of stuff my parents listened to.
I have harbored a very deep hatred for The Grateful Dead ever since. I’m sorry, but it doesn’t get more ridiculously lame or boring than The Grateful Dead.
£18,000 ... Wow! I've seen genuine 1960's strats sell for less. I'm sure there is a doctor, or lawyer, guitar enthusiast/collector out there that will pay the asking price for this ... and then put it in a display cabinet, and never play it. Each to their own I guess, but definitely not for me, even if I had the money to spare. If I wanted one of these, I'd get more pleasure out of building my own version, for a fraction of the price.
The guitar's parts looks like the old furniture you wanted to get rid of in the 90's.
This guitar should be loaned out to Bella Rayne when she (eventually) fires up her "touring band".😉
HOW MUCH!!!!
£18000 for a partscaster . Wow.
I'm sure that joke sounded funnier in your head.
@@WhyAlwaysMeMario £18000 is no joke
Make a version without the relic and stickers but all the same specs as the original, a fresh canvas.
First like and coment❤
Very nice, but..... why is there any crunch on there??? Jerry was known for his clean tone, and I would think anyone looking to buy that would be looking to emulate that, no? Put it through a Twin and go.
Misconception. Jerry utilized some dirtier sounds, just in very melodic ways
@christophercasey3255 While not exclusively clean tones, very seldom did he get dirty - and extremely rare when he played Alligator. He used more dirt in his later years, such as on Deal or in the "space" jams, but even then, he predominantly used and was known for his pristine tones.
@@mrphil2557he used an MXR Distortion+ in the late 70s that got pretty gnarly at times, especially when he combined it with the octave divider
I'm 52 and I love tube amps, Strats, and classic rock- but I've never gotten the Grateful Dead. Now I went to a couple of their shows, and I got that part of it-- but it had nothing to do with the music. Both shows I went to were just an excuse for a lot of ppl to do a helluva lot of drugs- mostly weed and acid. And hey- "while in Rome..." as they say- I had a great time- that's why I went to the second show- to do it all over again- but it had nothing to do with the music. As far as the music went- and I know this is going to piss a lot of ppl off- it sucked. Almost every song sounded like it was made up as they went along- just a bunch of freestyle jamming which in the end sounds like someone noodling- not actually playing a lead break. Just not my cup of tea- now the actual tea though- that was great- tasted an awful lot like grape Kool aide, but with an undercurrent of mushroom- earthy. Probably because of the dirt in it, but we weren't drinking it for the taste.
Who are you again exactly?. Oh yeah, a nobody!! 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
