Hi, been carving for about 8 months and just tried this one, your carvings are so detailed and have been a bit leary but turned out good... thanks for the vids, will be doing some more of yours!!
Thanks for sharing - I learn a lot from you :-) It is incredible you can do this + all your other little people- in - pine! It is so difficult to carve this wood. Thanks again for sharing :-) greatings from Denmark
I thought I would give this one a go....did really well...until I accidentally whittled his nose off!!! Thank you for the fantastic video! Keep up the good work
Very nice Sir - bin at carvin 2 yrs - still a beginner in my mind - and did you know all great folks are south paws ?? lol - much obliged and take care
I think I remember you saying you got your white pine from a big box store. The one’s around here sell white wood. From what I’ve read that can be anything. Even spruce.
I used Balsam Fir for years. That is a very soft wood but I carved it with the wood being still fairly green. Too dry and the fibres would break cutting across grain. I also used Aspen for awhile. That was pretty decent
I am always amazed at your ability to carve the eyes without the wood breaking and chipping off. I have watched probably 90% of your videos and still try to get eyes that compare to yours. Great work and videos.
Hi Kevin, I notice that when you were finished carving, you brushed on a type of clear yellowish liquid & then brushed on a darker liquid. Would you mind telling me what those were, by the way, your carvings are amazing, you’re very talented, thank you for your videos.
I've been modifying Opinel pocket knives as of late. In as far as carving it has just been finger grooves with a Dremel tool and then wood burning things like Celtic knot work patterns. However I am inspired to try and carve a wood spirit into the handle. I'm currently looking at an Opinel #6 Carbon blade knife with Beechwood handle. One thing that sets me back however is that the blade slot is pretty deep and that does not leave me much wood to work with in the center. If I go too deep then I will be cutting into the blade slot and that will ruin it. I could always just wood burn the spirit but I like the 3D effect carving gives. Got any advice? I will likely be practicing before I try as I am new to carving however if you are interested in doing a video with such a knife as a challenge I'd love to see it. The knife costs about $13 - $15 with shipping.
I live in France and have bought some pine from a local hardware store. It's easy to carve and looks a lot like the pine you are using. However it is really prone to splitting and if I'm not careful a chunk will split off and ruin my work. I am wondering if the type of pine that you are using also tends to split easily or if pine from different continents might be very different in texture?
Very cool, Going to attempt this guy soon. For the antique wax, do you water it down or is your brush wet or something? The stuff I have goes on very thick and doesn't wipe off nice like yours did
Just curious. What knives do you use in your videos? Who makes them? Thanks for another excellent video. You make it look so easy. I'd have slit my thumb more than once.
I used OCC knives in this video. I use a Flexcut in some and an old fish knife in a lot of the videos. I would cut myself pretty much everyday first when I started carving
Kevin, where do you get that kind of pine that carves more easily than even any basswood I've found! All the pine I have is way too hard to carve like that
I really like watching you carve because your a left handier and so am I. It's lots easier for me to follow.
Glad I can help

Thank you. It was a natural oil. The kind used on cutting boards. The other was some watered down brown paint just to darken it a little

With some of the wood I use I have to be careful with.
Very cool, Going to attempt this guy soon. For the antique wax, do you water it down or is your brush wet or something? The stuff I have goes on very thick and doesn't wipe off nice like yours did
Thanks. I just use oil on mine. The kind you would use on wooden bowls
Just curious. What knives do you use in your videos? Who makes them? Thanks for another excellent video. You make it look so easy. I'd have slit my thumb more than once.

You're a master.
Not quite but thanks
Kevin, where do you get that kind of pine that carves more easily than even any basswood I've found! All the pine I have is way too hard to carve like that
It comes from eastern Canada. White pine. I buy it at Kent
Kevin, what happened to your fish knife?
I still use it lots. I have a dozen or more different knives now but my favourite by far is the OCC knife
Wonderful.
Thank you
new knife?
I must be difficult to carve such details in such a small piece
Just need to be extra careful
Your carving inspires me mr. cotes. Are you a American or Canadian. Just curious. Thank you so much.
which kind of finish do you use?
A salad bowl oil
perfect
Thank you
If you don’t mind me asking what two coats of oil did you use at the end? Thanks!
The first was the kind of oil you would use on cutting boards, wooden spoons etc. The second was brown acrylic paint thinned with water
how long is the wood here?
Close to 3”
@@KevinCoates98 thanks. I thought so.
You do some great projects but you need to explain what you are doing as you do it.
Thanks. Me talking would probably confuse you more
класс!👍
Thanks
