I loved to hear about Come Closer. I bought it years ago as an ebook on sale at Amazon, but never read it, so it was a nice surprise to see it being recommended with this much love! I’ll definitely add it to my Halloween TBR!
Of all these I've only read The Exorcist and Head Full Of Ghosts and I loved them both, so lots of great additions to my TBR! I really like the exorcism / possession genres too but too often they're just the same story told in slightly different ways. Thanks as always for the recs ;)
One that might be worth checking out just because it's a bit different is Pandemonium by Daryl Gregory. It's set in a world where, since the 40s or so possessions are a more or less accepted phenomenon, or at least it's accepted that people regularly claim to possessed, for short periods, by iconic beings that seem to represent parts of the collective unconscious (with some scholarly disagreement about whether they're real entities possessing people or some kind of conventional psychological break which latches on to cultural expectations, sort of like how people with alien abduction experiences see similar things after the early stories became widely publicized), and a man who was possessed as a child who--after some strange events happen--comes to think he might have the demon still inside him and looks more deeply into the topic. I'm not sure it qualifies fully as horror although it certainly dips a toe in that field and has scary moments.
Love this video and your amazing channel please stay safe and enjoy your reading love your family friend John xxx from Australia prayers and thoughts for you and your family love your family John xxx🥰🥰❤️❤️
I’d not heard of The Merciless but it sounds great - thanks for the recommendation Completely agree about Come Closer and Jack Sparks - both great and interestingly told books that deserve to be more widely read. Another one I’d recommend is The Case Against Satan by Ray Russell - in many ways it’s like the Exorcist, but told with the ambiguity of Come Closer
Yes, yes, and yes! Agreed on all points. Demons and Possessions are my favorite type of horror. Recs that I loved are backlists, but very good. Between Two Fires is excellent and is set in medieval France so it has a bit of a fantasy quest feel, but truly demonic horror. Servants of Twilight is a creepy story of a cult that stalk a single mother and her young son. Another classic is the Omen, but I’m guessing you’ve read that. Lastly, the Descent was surprisingly good book for me bc I wasn’t really expecting where it was headed, but I will warn you that my favorite scene actually came quite early in the book.
The author of The Merciless liked one of my Instagram posts (I'm an artist), I had never heard of her, but after conversing and finding out she was an author, I read The Merciless and it did not disappoint. Awesome book! Highly recommend
I have The Merciless series in hardcover, but I haven't read it yet. I couldn't resist a non-glossy/textured pink cover with an upside down pentagram. 😉
Last possession/exorcism story that I read that honestly was weird and wild is The Body Will Follow by Rob E. Boley. It's definitely off beat compared to other ones out there. Possession, ghosts, and being able to see auras like a mood ring. It was a gross out horror book that gets pretty campy. It wasn't a 5* read but it's one I haven't been able to forget since reading it.
Jack Sparks sounds really interesting. I own the ebook of Come Closer but haven't read it yet. I actually just bought a possession novella today! It's called The Possession of Natalie Glasgow by Hailey Piper. I plan on reading A Head Full of Ghosts next month 😉
Loved The Exorcist, I've read only for the first time last October. Jonathan Janz wrote a couple cool Exorcism books -- "Exorcist Road" (novella) and "Exorcist Falls". Best read in this order
Anda Kent did a deep dive into a non fiction book on the exorcism of Annaliese Michel. I think with your background it might be of interest to you. Here's the link to Part 1 of her deep dive video: ua-cam.com/video/1FeHP-QSSgk/v-deo.html
I read The Exorcist, A Head Full of Ghosts and My Best Friends Exorcism back to back to back last January. It was fun to see how the later two pulled from the Exorcist. I think Best Friends Exorcism is probably Hendrix's best book but its not entirely satisfying which how i feel about most of his books.
@@TheShadesofOrange For a woman, I believe it’s scarier than the Exorcist. Also the second part of the Exorcist…Legion is very good, it tells the story of what happened to the priest after the exorcism.(this is the story that became the movie The Exorcist 3)
I have Headful of Ghosts on my kobo now. Probably will get to it soon because I’ll need a new read. I just DNF’d August Kitko etc (too much romance, not enough giant robots ;), and I’m partway into All the White Spaces (not really grabbing me yet but will see what happens when they reach Antarctica). So may start Ghosts in a day or two. Have you read The Reincarnation of Peter Proud? An old book. From what I remember it can seem like a possession book. Not recommending it though…been decades since reading and I didn’t particularly like it (but I remembered it).
Haha! Yes. More mecha battles. I should try Iron Widow. Finished All the White Spaces an hour ago. It did get much better once set in Antarctica. Still thinking about it. Glad I read it. Now time to start another book for bedtime…
Goddesses of Filth by V. Castro is one of my favorites. The cover and spine is also amazing.
Agreed so good!

I hope you enjoy it!
I just finished it today, so good!
I’ll check out Sorrow’s Point, a Wiccan exorcism sounds intriguing. Just received my copy of Fairy Tale,
I know how I will be spending my evening!🥳
Enjoy! I'm still waiting on a copy

I found Come Closer to be very creepy 😍. Loved it!

Thanks for the recs. I have read The Omen but I will definitely check out Between Two Fires... happy to find another fan of possession stories
@@TheShadesofOrange I forgot to say that in servants of twilight the cult stalks the mother and son bc they believe he is Satan reborn.

That's so awesome!

I know the hardcover is amazing
Come closer is sooo good! I added a few more to my to read list!
So happy you loved it too!
The Last Days of Jack Sparks is one of my favorite horror books!
So good!
Highly recommend Exorcist's audiobook.
So good!
I absolutely loved the Last Days of Jack Sparks. It was so creepy and I love what ended up happening with the weird video.
Agreed!
Possession and exorcism are my favourites too. Some great ideas thank you.😊
Glad you love them too!
Awesome video. What a creepy sub genre. I read the Exorcist and its sequel Legion. Both really great reads. Thanks for a great list.
Oh yes Legion was quite good too!
Great recs! My best friends exorcism was my favorite not super scary but still good and the friendship is amazing 🎃
Very true

Oh yes I still need to read Hailey Pipers possession story
This was great, I love possession stories and there's a couple here that I haven't heard of before. Thanks so much for the recs!
Glad I found a couple you haven't read yet
You made me so excited to read Come Closer, thank you for the rec! What are your favourite (supernatural or psychological) horror novellas?
I should be posting a top 10 novellas soon!
Agree that Come Closer deserves more hype!
For some reason, this is a sub genre I've never gotten into. It might be time to give it another chance. Thanks for the recs :)
I think so!
Loved The Exorcist, I've read only for the first time last October.

You should check out Exorcist Road/Exorcist Falls by Jonathan Janz. Really solid.
Thanks for the recs
I’m definitely checking some of these out! Thank you!💀🖤

So fun to read those 3 together!
I found a head full of ghost very scary!
I'd recommend Shrine by James Herbert. Great religious horror novel, about a possessed girl in an English village.
Thanks for the rec!
Best reviews on UA-cam, you are superb.
You probably say that to all the UA-camrs, but thank you
I just found a hardback copy of "The Exorcist" 1st edition...so...after all these years... It's about time!!! 😁
Amazing!
I'm gonna ended poor haha, I have two book on my basket thanks to you
Have you ever read The Entety by DeFelita (might have name misspelled) then watch the movie.it’s based on actual events.
Oh no I haven't

Haha! Yes. More mecha battles. I should try Iron Widow.

The Seven Visitations Of Sydney Burgess by Andy Marino
Has anyone here read the Seven Visitations Of Sidney Burgess? Also, I would add Seed by Ania Ahlborn to this list. xo
I was a little underwhelmed by that one
Hello
👏🏻
i recommended you The Exorcist House.
I really need to read that one!
I had to smile......"older books". To me an older book is pre-1900. 😄
Oh I know... I hate that I always say that about not-that-old books 😅
😄

👻
I don't read books on this topic (though I do love horror), but I clicked because the video has 666 views and I got scared
Haha 😄
