We all hoped that the TF2 Bot Crisis was some sort of Hack Mastermind that had some crazy endgoal in mind, but sadly it turned out it was nothing more than 30 to 40 kids, on average 13 years old, that were bad at video games, downloaded the most basic scripts and just ran it day and night on dads computer.

Cs2 is exactly the same lmao there’s no way a grown man pushing 30 who has a full time job is cheating in 20 year old Ip. The cheaters are almost always kids who don’t have the hardware to run cs and don’t have any skins it’s a way to piss people who spent time getting good and money on skins, only kid/teen would get joy out of this. Trust I have 4k hours in csgo and cs2 feels like ive never touched the game the players with no account presence just dominate you with their burner accounts that have prime. They need to hardware lock prime status to your main if you want to cheat on a burner account you have to rebuy prime on another hardware not account. This requires them to get invasive but it’s either that or watch your game die

I honestly think that any attempts at #savetf2 will only yield results when people boycott Valve en masse. If Valve's not gonna work on it "out of love", then they'll have to be "forced" upon their responsabilities, and that'll only happen when they see that they have a very real chance of losing money. There is NO shortage of people who love this game, and who have a scary amount of knowledge on its inner workings; this abandonment is, definitely, a corporate, top-down, decision/neglect

The primary issue is that Valves company practice allows their employees to work on their own project and not mandate them to specific projects. It's ironic, you would choose the flat structure so your devs would have maximum creative freedom, but in the case of Valve it has become a prison. They struggled to release Alyx, and they admitted it. Worse, despite their structure they prefer to outsource ideas: Portal, Dota, CS and TF started outside of Valve and more recently (in Valve Time lol) they brought an outside designer to make Artifact, a game which basically was trying to be a cash machine like Heartstone. It doesn't make sense why they are so creatively bankrupt.

  • @ironclad4288
    @ironclad4288 4 місяці тому +52

I may sound hyperbolic saying this, but the CS:2 cheater problem is one of the most insane things I’ve ever seen in gaming period.
I’ve been playing TF2 since 2011, and the emergence of the bots around late 2019 only somewhat surprised me (given the age and state of the game, plus casual mode was doomed to fail from the very beginning). It’s also worth considering that Valve has other cash cows to milk so, though extremely disappointing for many loyal Valve fans, their abandonment is only *barely* understandable from a corporate perspective.
But.. Counter Strike? Undergoing a bot/cheater crisis? One of the most popular games in the world? Arguably one of the most valuable in-game markets in all of modern gaming, which is single-handedly responsible for a huge portion of Valve’s worth as a company? The game that holds some of the most popular and profitable competitive eSport events in the entire industry?
I could go on and on about it, but my god what are they thinking in jeopardizing all of this? I don’t play CS too often, but it absolutely baffles a non-regular like me to see this happening. On their newest engine, no less.
If it were us in Valve’s shoes, it would rationally be an “all hands on deck” situation. Work as hard as we can to fix these problems, and fast. But nope, they let their devs work on pretty much whatever they feel like, no matter how useless or unproductive the job is. Besides, most of the employees that arguably built Valve for what it is (writers, programmers, developers, etc.) are gone or replaced.
I get that Valve’s brand is that they’re a small clique of genius game developers who are overly secret about the happenings of their development and projects, but goddamn this is getting ridiculous. This constant abandonment and obvious incompetence has basically killed what withering confidence I and many others had in Valve. At this rate, they ought to pray to god that their “3” game installments they supposedly plan to release will even live up to the countless years of hype (if they’re even working on them).
TL;DR: valve pls fix ur shit

Did you see their newest leak called Deadlock? And the reason they don't do anything about the cheater situation is because in their eyes, why should they? People keep playing

    • @ironclad4288
      @ironclad4288 3 місяці тому +1

@@IAm-zo1bo I had a look at the gameplay demos that are out there, as well as what’s being reported on.
It’s hard for me to really get a concrete opinion on it because of how early it is in development: 19 classes so far (I noticed a few of them pretty much have the same exact roles), Zip-lines, Battle Arena-style gameplay with players and lower level NPCs, the Source 2 engine, random boss battles, and upgrade currencies. Doesn’t sound entirely like my cup of tea, personally, but it’ll be worth checking out what other players think when it releases. It might be good.
But I’ll be real, I wouldn’t really say it’s “on brand” for Valve to host/create a game like this. I highly praise Valve because they’ve always been the company to use the latest technologies and unique gameplay mechanics, while using them in the most simple ways possible to allow people with underperforming computers to enjoy their games. And how they convey these games to us with some of the best characters and backstories really tops it all off. It’s just strange to me that they would release something so… typical? I mean the game has been described as being directly inspired by both Valorant and Overwatch, the latter being the direct competition to Valve at the tail-end of their care for TF2. It honestly sounds like a far cry from the games we know them for, if you ask me.
And I agree with your point that Valve basically has no incentive to fix their games, but I don’t realistically see such a business model working out for them in the long run…
Sure, Team Fortress 2 and the Counter-Strike series are very much ancient games at this point. But the truth is, TF2’s true statistics wouldn’t be that way if they didn’t stop giving a damn since 2018, nor would CS:2 face the current backlash it’s getting from comp players or the base community. CS:2’s situation might not be currently as bad as TF2’s, but all it takes is another “OMEGATRONIC” to find a way to cause maximum chaos and disruption. It must be immediately taken care of before that happens.
If they just took the time to update their games and figure out the issues with VAC Ban, they would be perfectly reliable and active games to enjoy with no worries. But all good things must come to an end, eventually. In these two cases, however, the communities feel that they’ve been abandoned and left to rot at very abrupt and inappropriate times.
But hey, even if they don’t make good games anymore, or games period, they still have the Steam store anyway. It’s just a pity for Valve fans who believe, as these triple A game titles fail with every game they release, the very concept of gaming would have a reliable bed to fall onto

TF2 is one of the most "popular" games in the world. Sure, the game has a hell of a lot of cultural reach in the gamer space, but there is evidence to suggest that the vast majority (70-80%) of the supposed players that are on TF2 at any given time, as reported by Steam, are actually bots.
Despite Valve being a massively successful company, it is paradoxically very small from an employment perspective, employing only about 360 people as of 2016 (according to a glance at the company's Wikipedia page). Valve doesn't seem intent on changing that, despite the fact that Valve is starting new projects. The glaring side effect of this is that Valve's manpower ultimately gets stretched way too thin, hence why you have games like TF2, supposedly one of Valve's biggest cash cows, not receiving any major updates since 2017. TF2 still has major problems with bots and, if the evidence is legitimate, Valve is unable to properly enforce their own ToS in any meaningful capacity.
This is not to say that Valve's lack of manpower expansion is motivated by self-detrimental greed. As a matter of fact, it seems that the lack of expansion by the company is what makes Valve a fantastic place to work for game developers. The company's also fostered a strong internal community and tradition that would inevitably be affected by a sudden intake of hundreds of new hires. Basically, Valve is stuck in a dilemma where it has to choose between its own identity and making better games.

R6s has kicked every high ranked in the balls.
Minecraft has completely changed and it's a husk of its former self.
    LoL is LoL.
CoD hasnt changed and the competitive scene is a joke.
GTA V is a genuine security concern.
    Valorant is alright ig.
Tarkov actively spitting on their playerbase.
Apex is starting to look like LoL but with the strangest cheating problem.
So many games have changed for the worse, and if they didn't change theyre rusting away. We've definitely have hit a low.
There has been so many new games that die so quickly, Battlebit, the Finals, Starfield, Payday 3, and Lethal Company is definitely making the way there, to name a few. There is definitely a passion, or atleast a cash grab for compainies to make new games, but sadly most playerbases want the older version of already released games. Every company has been trying to make a new golden goose that it's caused a great disparity between the consumers and the devs. I'm very thankful for any devs working on these games, because I can definitely tell that the core game devs are long gone.

A game cant be fun and casual anymore it has to have a ranking system, penalties, everyone needs to try their hardest or they get kicked and this game design incentivizes toxicity. When CSGO introduced ranks it was fine because when i ranked up too high i would throw on purpose to derank to silver where i could finally find people who mess around and bhop alot like me on nuke. Personally I stopped playing CS after they changed the engine. All the UI elements, new movement and other small changes ruined the game for me. I loved the old graphics, the old movement and UI. CS:GO had a chemistry that could not ever get replicated in any shape or form, it was just something special... but valve had to ruin it all with their pride, ego and new "fancy" engine. The worst thing is that they remove CS:GO in place of CS 2 and straight up killing the old game. But at the end what me and my friends were playing CS:GO for was that special vibe that no longer exists. I cannot describe that vibe but if you played the old cs for at least 1k hours then you should know what I mean. No other shooter game no matter how close in routes to cs posses that vibe. So to wrap it all up CS 2 is bad in my opinion though the lack of the old game vibe.

To put it simply, Valve has become too successful. Even with competitors, Valve can take a year vacation and they'll still make bank. Their skin markets alone make them millions of dollars weekly and Steam itself makes them the same revenue on a daily basis, so why try to be better when you're already at the top with no one to stop you? As much as I love Valve titles, I've left them simply because I'm tired of seeing Valve take years to fix basic issues that could've been fixed within days in the hands of another development team.

These guys have no tracking, no crosshair placement, they just all of a sudden at the right time put their crosshair right where you are about to peek. No sound clue, no nothing. They nade you right where you are sitting. In one match I caught a guy from the side in Mirage Palace, he was walking and I came from the side while he was looking to the left, he caught me coming on the side and panic sprayed in the wrong direction, but his second bullet just did an airbender move and headshot me. That was it. It could not be more obvious. Its a damn shame.

Exactly how i feel. I come home i wanna play something, idk what to play though. Tf2 pops up in my head i then remember ill probably only game for 2 hrs at most and get off and i really dont wanna deal with bots and joining uncletopia servers that have people who take the game a little bit more serious then i'd like. I have 3k hrs idc about being good anymore or how the games going, i have stuff i gotta do in the day, all i wanna do is play a game without a care. This year i'd say i have probably spent at most and im being generous, at least 300hrs gaming. 300hrs gaming use to take me about a month and a half at longest and if im being genuine without the generous guess, i'd say i've played about 250hrs, idk though tbf. My point is there's no games, i wanna game, cant play tf2 which is a game i can play without giving it my full attention and satisfies the need that i want from gaming, but i cant cause its ass rn. Once i do this Elden ring playthrough i've started for the new dlc, which will probs be at most 80hrs worth of gaming and about 1-2 months of playing, i will go back to this where im not gaming but wanna game. I just wanna have fun playing games that i enjoy again with the limited free time i have now. I did the math cause i got curious, i have played 190ish - 200 hrs of games. 85hrs terraria modded, 15hrs tf2, 15 hrs baldurs, 11hrs helldivers, 1hr dredge, 10hrs at most on the nintendeo switch (mario cart and luigis mansion 3 with my mates), 4 hrs sunkenland, 10hrs golf with friends, 5hrs elden ring, 3 hrs ds3, 5hrs fall guys, 2hrs gta 5, 3 hrs red dead 2, 1hr fallout NV, 30mins of dragonball dbz fighting game and probably 20-30hrs between fortnite and apex legends at most. Games suck atm.

These are my two favorite games of all time, both somewhat ruined by the slow creep of cheaters and the slowly dwindling young North American playerbase. It's a shame CS2 is a such a big step backwards in terms of the matchmaking experience -- Despite being high elo in both games, CSGO's trust factor system mostly kept cheaters out of my games, and I instead found myself usually playing with other longtime players. It's absurd to me in CS2 just how frequently fresh accounts are queuing into my games and rage cheating. It's probably a symptom of a playerbase whom, if they're good enough, play faceit, and if not, just give up playing the game.

idk, in my perspective as a new player, CS2 Is the most frequently updated game I've ever played. and while yes most of the updates for now are to get to the baseline that CSGO already had, those updates are the ones the people are asking for most, and I recognize are a bigger priority than large content updates.
In my opinion it isn't exactly fair to say that the game feels exactly the same as on release, when movement has been largely fixed, we've gotten 3-4 updates to the subtick system to make the gunplay feel like the previous game, and a network update that fixed a tick's worth of peeker's advantage. And while yes those are small changes on their own, together I feel like they fix/vastly improve every issue with gameplay feel that people have criticized.
as for the cheaters, I'm at a low enough rank that I've almost never seen them so I'm not in a place to judge, but the new anti-cheat update seems really promising. Overall besides content updates I think CS2 has had just as frequent updates as I'd expect for a game minus content updates, and I feel it's current issues aren't even comparable to the drought that TF2 has had.

We can say "it's just a game", but you can apply that reductionist sentiment to anything in life; after all, we're "just a collection of atoms". At the end of the day, if it makes you happy and it means a lot to you, I think it's completely justified to feel frustrated and disappointed by what they have done or have not done, especially when they rake in millions in profits.

    long ass comment warning.
valve are incompetent is the answer. so many issues with cs2 - movement feels shit, is inconsistent and broken gamemodes like bhop/surf (half due to engine clipping issues) - netcode is unresponsive and now hardcoded to 64 tick, subtick inherently creates inconsistency where not needed, non existant anti cheat, minor graphical update for a huge tank in fps which isolates people who can't afford pc's (think cs scenes in developing countries, theres a reason valorant is so popular in said developing countries), clipping is shit, economy in game is shit with mr12, they buffed util to be even bigger/last longer, heaps of QOL things missing.. I could go on. they often ship updates with such obvious bugs it amazes me how they don't realise when the community will realise something is scuffed within seconds of being in a game. I'd argue its actually worse than TF2 regarding cheaters cause in TF2 you can just votekick or requeue, in CS you abandon or sit it out for 20-45 mins, and the prevalency of cheating means that more and more closet cheaters are coming onto faceit, which while having a kernel AC doesn't detect RMA/external cheats, some of which you can get on your phone for example giving you radar hack for very little cash and is undetectable. it's a shitshow but valve really does only care about money. iirc an employee had an idea which was pretty cool (can't remember what) and said to her higher ups "this will bring us in a few hundred million" and her higher ups said "that's 0 billion" and it was scrapped. the devs are often shit at the game they're developing so don't actually understand whats good/bad changes, like with meet your match or CS2's release. it's a shame cause as a kid i idolized valve with such great titles like TF2, CS, HL, L4D, Portal etc but they've really become pretty shit in the last few years, I think since skins in CSGO took off they realized how much money they could make while doing so little and that's been their MO since imho.
tl;dr devs out of touch and don't play the games/are very low skilled/don't listen to community. TF2 much less aids than CS if casual cause you aren't committed to game. Valve don't need to fix anyhting cause $$$. thanks for coming to my TED talk.

I feel like this is beyond a Valve problem. Beforehand, you could make the argument that perhaps TF2 is just so low priority that it wasn't a big deal to them and they just shrugged off the cheating and bots.
But now, one of three things is happening and they're all terrible for gaming as a whole:
    1. Valve has decided it's not worth they're time/money to fix this on two multiplayer FPS games. That means all FPS games lose sustainability. If hackers can make Valve decide solving this isn't worth the cost, what's to stop other devs from throwing in the towel when things become too expensive? They must still be making some money off the games as they pay to keep the servers up in spite of the hackers. So if other gaming companies realize this hackers are going to become more prominent.
    2. Valve can't solve this problem. They're giving it their best effort but the cheaters/hackers have outsmarted them. Again, what's to stop this from happening to other studios? Unless-
    3. Valve is so screwed up internally or VAC is so poorly implemented that they can't solve it. And if that's true for these two games of Valve's, what's to say there isn't a security problem with Steam? And if this is a competency problem with Valve, couldn't other studios have these same sorts of internal problems?

Not to be pessimistic, but I don't think we'll ever get an update that will fix the bots indefinitely (I still hope Valve proves me wrong by at least meeting a standard to at least clear most of the bots)
I say that simply because It seems that all of Valve and the employees are just tired of trying or just don't have that same passion for tf2 or making games at all as they did in there prime (saying this just as an outsider and causal player of tf2)
They didn't even know tf2 would last this long, so it would make sense by now that they've both made an accomplishment for almost 17 years of an active fanbase in tf2 and at the same time...done with it.
I'm sure they can hire people who are willing and capable of dealing with bots in there games, but it still seems like they won't care to secure at least 90% of there games from bots/aimbots so long as they are getting millions of dollars in revenue...and I don't blame them.
It's my opinion and so I can't really speak for them, but still though the cracks are showing in Valve as whole.
