The only thing close to a "meta" in TF2 is having a medic on your team.
there is a very hard meta in pro play that has not changed for like the past 10+ years, but most people just play tf2 casually and to have fun with crazy loadouts, regardless if they are actually good or not

Which is why Sniper should be removed
@@russianoverkill3715 I agree and disagree. @@blitzworldace just go watch a video where sniper gets removed as an experiment, it gets obvious that sniper brings nothing to the game but makes it less fun.
Every game has game sense
LIKE EVERY FUCKING GAME
tf2 is balanced pretty well, because it has only 9 characters, the same ones the game came out with each with it's own unique mechanics and purpose
instead they add weapons to spice up the gameplay which are a lot easier to balance than characters
And it prevents role overlap, which makes characters less interesting to play
@@ItsGamein the last weapons they added were: a banana, a literal (close range) fire ball launcher, a gas can you can throw at people and a goddamn jetpack
freaking beautiful
@@vitaleriof The fire ball launcher was great tho but the gas? WHY TF DOES IT TAKE 800 damage to charge it? Jetpack was great and It has funni stomp stomp and banana is just banana
What's ironic is that early in OWs development, during the beta, there was this idea that OW would be easier to balance than games with weapon loadouts due to clearly defined roles.
However, those rigid roles ended up being the ultimate thorn in Overwatch's side when it came to balance. In TF2, you can easily change weapons to counter the opposing teams strengths, or bolster your teams weaknesses, but in Overwatch, you have to play a completely different character, with their own set of unavoidable weaknesses.
@@vitaleriof"the banana" literally adds a faster way of getting HP, the "fire ball launcher" is a pyro primary that takes more actual aim to use with much more reward. The erm... gas can... No comment. The jetpack was also revolutionary for allowing pyro to become a highly mobile class, also allowing people to axtinguisher garden (even if it was nerfed) without using the detonator or scorchshot

Makes me so happy to see ow2 and tf2 fans just chilling, both games have unique charm from characters/art direction and different playstyles (one being competitive the other more casual). While ow2 isn’t the game for me I’m happy you found two games you can enjoy!
Now all we need is an official collab between the two games, that would be almost perfect.
There is like only 1 Game Developer working on TF2 now, Valve's years old radio silence and cheaters & aimbots are more important to solve because you barely can enjoy the game no matter how good it is if there is obvious spinbot sniper, closet cheater or other types of cheater on your team or enemy team. TF2 has everything I loved about OG Overwatch and more, it's the only game I've found that really fills that void.
For me has been the opposite, I fell in love with Tf2 at the start of the pandemic and played it to hell and back slowly losing my appreciation and interest at Tf2's thousand cuts of issues until I ultimately stopped caring about it, later on mid 2022 I bought Overwatch because I was desperate for any kind of new experience and it instantly hooked me, I've been playing it since then and I can confidently say that I find more enjoynment in Overwatch than in Tf2.

The most important part of TF2 is that it stayed casual, in spite of Valve's efforts. So many other games die on esport hill, but TF2 remains as one of the few games where to can hop into a server filled with people you recognize, grab whatever garbage items you want, and just spend the whole night doing stupid shit while chatting about other games or anime or whatever. It's heartbreaking how few games have that "let's all just hang out" feeling.
Speaking of Overwatch and TF2 I was always surprised Overwatch became more popular since at the time it cost money while TF2 was free for over 5 years
Blizzard is a massive game platform and at the time of release TF2 had already existed 9 years,
so it wasn't really attracting large amounts of players like freshly released games tend to do
"TF2 hasn't received a major update in 7 years" there was a summer 2023 update that added new maps, cosmetics, weapons, and a seal.

Glad you enjoyed the game! I’ve been playing since 2012 and every time I come back my muscle memory kicks in and once I start rocket jumping I immediately remember why I love this game so much. The pure freedom of movement in this game is unrivaled in anything else I’ve played.
I also have hundreds of hours of OW, playing since 2016. I like OW because I’m someone that has random itches to play different play styles and playing all the different heroes helps with that. But I’ve always been more agitated on average playing OW because of some abilities being ridiculously oppressive offensively and defensively. Which leads to a feeling of not being out skilled but the player just pressed a button better than you did.
Great video Bro! Love to see it from a fresh-er perspective (not sure how many hours you have total). You brought up a lot of points that I’ve taken for granted or never really considered over the decade of playing. Gave me a slightly new perspective on aspects of the game. Well done!

Tf2 is like an elementary school. You either get those loud new 1st graders. Or the calm 6th graders
"It doesn't have any repetitive lobbies." That's because you don't have competitive experience. TF2 competitive community decided a meta that is "most fun" and used community rulesets to ban any other way of play. On top of this, the competitive scene is dominated by one super team Froyo who are on ANOTHER MULTIYEAR WIN STREAK. Despite TF2's growing playerbase, it's comp viewers are declining, because no one wants to watch the same returning champion team win again using the same strategy they've used for 8+ years. It would be like if Smash Bros. leagues banned all characters except for Fox and Marth, and 1 fox main won 80% of world tournaments. It doesn't matter that fox is "fast" or "satisfying", because people don't want to watch the same match 10000 times.
Here's a recent example, Demoman players always use the grenade launcher / iron bomber. Recently, pro Demoman players have started to prefer the Loch n Load because they are starting to see that having faster grenades may be a slight advantage compared to having rollers. This possible minor meta shift happened after 6 years of NO balance patches. And you know how the TF2 community responded to this? One of the leagues already banned the weapon. This is how cartoonishly resistant TF2 is to a meta change.
As a TF2 Fan and a OW ex-fan. My hopes for OW 2 was that they would use the scrapped abilities from the PvE progression and add ability loadouts to the game. When they chose not to, I really had no interest in trying OW 2, because my faith in OW was already burned by some of the terribly designed heroes they added near OW 1's development end. Characters like SIgma and Brig at launch acted like a damp towel on the last remaining bit of fun that game had.

And the fact that OW got much more attention simply through Blizzard throwing money at it
@tappajaav Yeah tbf for example Pharah takes rocket jumping, an engine quirk turned physics based high skill mechanic and made it a button press or 2 depending on the concussion rocket (if that's the name I forgot). Heck Doomfist is probably a better comparison to rocket jumping since he also has high skill ceiling mobility with emphasis on canceling movement and going on angles to go flying.
Also yeah it feels weird OW is getting so much attention when tf2 is it's predecessor and gets like 10% of the playership OW has. Probably like you said Blizzard throwing money at it and maybe the R34.

Hah fr?
Have you played "tf2 classic" and "open fortress" ?
These are separate multiplayer games created in the same style from fans.
I think an important part of the loadouts that bears emphasis is that, in almost every instance, alternate options are not straight upgrades. Stock loadouts are completely viable for all classes, and are in many cases one of the best in slot options due to being incredibly well balanced. The most common exception to this is melee weapons on classes who already do absurd close range damage with their primary, such as scout, heavy, and pyro.
You are in for a world of -pain- plucking
This video wasnt sponsored by Valve, but it sure sounds like it.
Gotta treat tf2 like a zoo where no one has any idea who is secretly an animal, so people are constantly watching and testing people
Not to be too negative, I like seeing new players join and im glad to have you on, but I'd hoped you'd show us more of how your first experience with tf2 was or how that differs from overwatch. The title got me intrigued but what i got was a pretty generic review of tf2 that seemed to say the exact same things the thousand other reviews did.
Fighting over games is stupid, as a just a simple TF2 fan i welcome you to the comunity whit open arms, i hope you have fun
TF2 has 2440 different loadout combinations over all the classes. There is a common consensus that it takes at least 10,000 hours to master anything. If you played TF2 with the goal of using every single loadout possible within the game, and got to 10,000 hours, that would only equal a little over 4 hours of gameplay per individual loadout. The depth of TF2 is truly staggering, and there is always more to learn and improve.
it's honestly heartwarming knowing more people are coming to my favorite game and enjoying it as much as I do, I hope you continue to have fun!
You should see what happens when you use overwatch terms in comms
Tf2 doesnt age. It just adds temporary maps during Halloween and Christmas and then goes back to what it was before
Just to add on to the characters, they absolutely hit it out of the park with voice acting and character design still has me laughing after 1500 hours. Combine that with hilarious ragdolls and a goofy playerbase gives me feelings of laughter and genuine joy nearly every game.

The inspiration from "How it feels to play..." from LazyPurple is palpaple, the engineer segment is basically 1:1 to his video ',,,'

Basically,TF2 lets you fly solo and you don't need to worry about the team hindering you that much.
The default setting viewmodel_fov is a claustrophobic nightmare
What I like about TF2 when compared with Overwatch, is that the characters are inherently designed to be recognisable in game by their silhouette and their model colour. In Overwatch, you need a big red outline and a nametag above an enemy to really notice them, while in TF2, it's part of the visual design. Each team has a specific defined range of hues which stand out against the background and are distinct from each other, as well as their silhouettes being designed to be instantly recognisable.
It just says a lot about the effort put into the visual design of both games. Overwatch looks really really good, but TF2, you can clearly tell that the visual design is part of the gameplay. It truly is a special game, one the success of which will probably not be reached by another game for a long time. Even with almost no support for 7 years, it's still pulling 20 000 human players every day. That's something not many games can claim. The only one that comes to mind is Doom, the game that defined the fps genre as we know it and is one of the most legendary videogames of all time.
Just as Doom was a genre defining title, so too was TF2 a game that defined the class based shooter of today. Without TF2, there would probably be no Overwatch, no Apex, no Valorant, no Rainbox Six: Siege. It holds a special place not only in the hearts of its community members, but in the history of videogames.
There was a time when developers has a freedom to put love in their games
Reason Demoknight works as a demoman subclass is because they share the core element of large damage followed by downtime, main way they differ in scale tho.
I paid for the Orange Box the day it released but never gave TF2 a chance. Last year I finally installed it and gave it a go... Now I'm hopelessly addicted. I'm mad I missed it in it's heyday that everyone talks about but it's still incredibly fun to play. Now I see why so many TF2 Gmod/SFM videos were made back in the day.
As long as none of that Overwatch lingo is heard or seem, you won't here "You came to the wrong house, fool!!"
In Overwatch, I notice that there's a lot more pressure to play specific classes in order to have a team that has a good enough balance to fight against the enemy (if no one goes healer, you're just not gonna have an easy time)
In TF2, since it's normally a 12v12, there's less pressure on people to play specific classes, allowing some leeway for people to play as what they want. Hell, you don't even need to have a good balance of classes on the team, Heck, I've won entire games by getting our entire team to go Demoknight/Phlog Pyro/Engineer/Heavy/etc.
I mean in normal OW role queue means there is ALWAYS 2 "healers". I say healer because there is a chance you just get DPS supports, which re basically the OW equivalent of a battle medic.
Bro never watched “TF2 is A Timeless Classic” by Lazy Purple
A counter-point to offer about TF2's meta: the typical 6v6 competitive lineup of classes is 2 scouts, 2 soldiers, 1 demo, 1 med. That is almost always the case, sometimes you may see a team occasionally whip out one of the other classes but it's rare and never typically full-time. Not to mention a lot of unlockable weapons are blacklisted from official competitive tf2. (not with the competitive matchmaking system in the game, nobody uses that anyway).
However, I still wouldn't call competitive TF2 'stale' because of that. Those classes are the typical lineup for a good reason, they're the most versatile and powerful of them all, so they get used the most. In a high level, obviously, teamplay is important, but what I think keeps TF2's meta from creating a stale environment where every game feels the same is the amount of impact and individual player can make. Just one soldier or scout or even a demo can jump in, kill 3-4 players in rapid succession in an amazing display of technical skill, and completely change the course of a game in a matter of seconds. In a game of Overwatch, that is usually never the case, players just don't die quickly enough and there are far too many abilities that just shut people down. That I think is a huge difference between a game of TF2 and Overwatch and why both feel so different.
I liked your video! I've been playing TF2 since 2009 and it's been a blast for each year. This is an ageless game
The appeal of the Team Fortress characters gameplay wise, is that they aren't planned around team synergy. Only TF2 Medic and TFC Scout are strictly support classes, while the others can each be a frontline class or be used in unconventional ways. The only time team synergy is really important is on stalemates and Highlander matches, otherwise 12 heavies is actually a viable strategy on payload, and goofy loadouts like trolldier and demoknight can function by themselves without needing a teammate glued to their ass to get anything done.
Tf2 is the most fun game I’ve ever played idk how valve makes masterpiece like this they really are the goats

tf2 match : 10% chaotics
90% dancing party
15% killbinds
Bought the game in 2014. 2.5k hours in total. I don't play it consistently anymore but I just keep finding myself coming back to it because I just know I'm always going to have fun.
There's a mod of the game released called "TF2 Classic" that has a few new weapons, gets updates, and has a lot of the feel of older tf2 as well as no bot problems.
Only problem is the weapon selection is pretty limited, but if you ever feel like it's stale you can always just play regular tf2 again.
Just like lazy said
