Today we reconise family, sometimes they are not a blood relation but people who are there for us in times of need. I'd say she did have a family, the $100,000 showed her that.
Thank you for making these lovely videos. I was very little when I watched them on tv and usually never got to watch the whole episodes (parents wanted to watch news) I had so much joy remembering these ladies. Nice to find something peaceful and fun online.

Also I believe it wasn't mentioned that Dawn Wells grew up in Reno Nv. and was crowned Miss Nevada in 1959, then went on to represent Nevada in the1960 Miss America Beauty pageant in Atlantic City, New Jersey. I am disappointed to find that Dawn Wells never had any leading lady roles in movies or TV. The Ginger and Mary Ann characters were rewritten after the pilot episode to be the polar opposites of each other, in looks and characteristics. The actresses brought each of these ladies to stunning life, maintaining the differences while creating a definite similarity that meant the differences weren't too jarring. Mary Ann was sweet and spunky while Ginger was sultry and spicy (!) but together they created a yin-yang type wholeness.

I met Dawn at a boat christening for my Sea Scout ship in the 1990s. The boat was the SSS Jonas Grumby, named after the Skipper on Gilligan's Island. Since she was in town for a separate promotion we asked her if she would do the honors of smashing the bottle of champaign on it. She was happy to do it. She was probably the nicest and most genuine celebrity I ever met.
She should have made much more, She was the only reason most of us watched gilligans Island. Lol didn’t know anything about her getting sick or the go fund me page. Sounds like she was classy to the very end. My 15 minutes with her at a Comic-Con event seemed like I’d known her for years. She and my wife talked non stop while I stood there like an idiot…. Lol. My wife said to her she looks so beautiful, without missing a beat she said, Honey, you didn’t see me this morning when I got up, I pay people a lot of money to do the best they can with what I’ve got to work with and laughed like crazy. She was awesome.
Truly beautiful inside and out. ❤ And what a beautiful lady she was in that pic of her up in years. Wow! Beautiful!! You sure don't find this in Hollywood anymore.
So Cool of you people at Cool Classics, to inform us of Dawn Wells, thoughts, and her aspirations to others so close too the eventual end of her life. To me her character of Mary Ann, was also very closely similar to her actual personality. Thanks again @may Dawn Wells RIP. 🎋🎀🎀🎁🎂📺📺📺💞💞
Thanks for the upload. I always liked Dawn Wells going back to her Gilligan days but never realized until now what a remarkable gentlewoman she really was.
Nice video! Back in 2008, I had the great pleasure of meeting Dawn Wells in person at a Hollywood autograph show. She would have been around her 70th birthday then and was STILL beautiful. We took a pic together (sorry, don't have it) but it was so cool to hear about the "Go Fund Me" campaign to help her out in her final years. As Mary Ann, though she's immortal!
@fred McMurray Bill Gates? That guy has dedicated his life to giving away his fortune to help people. What did he have to do with Gilligan's Island? Maybe you're thinking the Professor, that was Russell Johnson.
I got to see her in 1975 when she was filming Winterhawk in Montana I was 16 and she was so beautiful and amazing. She was my favorite on the show and the Professor's as well...lol
Not even Sherwood could predict that there would be infinite interest and reruns when they created the show. However, if the guy pocketed 90 million on reruns he should have definitely given 15 million to the staff.
I really appreciate that! I was nervous making these videos but thanks to people like you motivating me, I keep going and I feel like I am getting better. It also helps that I only make videos on people that I enjoy watching. Again, Thank You 😁
I love watching Gilligan's Island back in the days I still love watching them all the reruns Marianne should have been paid very good she was the first lady on television wearing mini shorts
Truly inspiring. She was a legend and person of great honour. I loved Gillian's Island as a kid, and secretary wished Marianne and Gillian would be married or at least get together.
Consider that MaryAnn initially was initially a character named 'Bunny' during the first pilot, which got scrapped and reshot after the network made Schwartz recast and revise script. Yet the Professor and MaryAnn were not part of the opening credits until later after Denver (Bob) protested. Which agreed did not justify Dawn's puny salary, despite MaryAnn's soaring popularity on the show.
Back then, the networks and the studios played hardball with the actors. Television actors were regarded as 2nd rate members of the profession, who were nothing before they landed their parts, and would go back to being nobodies once they lost their shows. They willing to kill a popular show rather than give in to actors' demands for higher salary. Clint Walker was the star of the popular Cheyenne show for 3 seasons, and when Walker demanded a pay raise to star in the 4th season, the studio shut the series down for a season . Cheyenne was replaced by Sugarfoot and Bronco for the 1958-1959 season. Clint Walker reached some agreement with the studio in 1959, and would play the role until 1963. Sugarfoot and Bronco were weaker series than Cheyenne, and as they faded, they alternated with Cheyenne, with all three cowboys playing on the same show together at times. James Garner is remembered for Maverick, but most people forget that he was only on the show for the first three seasons. The studio refused to yield to Garner's demands for a salary increase in 1960, and dropped him from the still very popular show. In regards to reruns, no one thought a show would have any value after it was run. In fact, a lot of the early video taped shows were erased and re-recorded. Yesterday's tv show was regarded as worthless as yesterday's newspaper, that you read and then threw in the trash. The actors in Gilligan's Island, for example, probably could have obtains the rights to the reruns for 10% reduction in salary. No one could have imagined that people would watch Gilligans Island more than 50 years later.
Thank you for making this video. I didn't know most of the truth. She was an amazing person. Everyone loved Mary Ann, me too. But Dawn was even better.
The shoe is on the other foot today with actors. Their greed is disgusting. The reason the older shows weathered the test of time was the sweetness and honest innocence. Later shows have petered out pretty quick.
What a great lady. I talked to her when she came to Roanoke va back around 2016 and she was so sweet and a doll baby. She truly had a great ❤️. RIP. Dawn. Your missed very much.
I have just finished watching your video on Dawn Wells. When I heard you say that Dawn died on December 30th 2020, from Covid,... My mother was also in an assisted living home in Michigan and she died 9 days after Dawn Wells died . . . from Covid 19. Mom died during that surge on January 8th, 2021. Three of my friends also lost relatives on that same day. The Covid vaccine was not YET available at that time. . . for the elderly ,.. sadly ... only the front line workers were getting them and many of the working staff caught it. So many elderly died helplessly ..then . Thank you for sharing your documentation of Dawn Wells. It was wonderfully made.
Dawn was a beautiful person inside and out it looks like, but many actors and musicians were burnt by their managers and other executives back in the day, and they were not appreciated. I am glad you put out this video so that fans know what some of these actors have to go through. I bought one of Dawn's cookbooks years ago, and would have bought more if I had known she was paid this poorly. What a shame to have been taken so advantage of.
Sure they do. But the media and pop culture makes far more money promoting the jerks, grifters and lowlifes so we never hear much about the really good people in the world.

Tim Conway Jr (the son of Tim Conway the actor), has a radio show in LA on KFI AM640. One evening he heard about Dawn Wells' medical money problems and encouraged his listeners to contribute to the go fund me effort. That is why the go fund me page did so well. Dawn Wells' was a very beautiful person, inside and out. It was a sad day when she entered God's Kingdom. May she rest peacefully.
Did Sherwood ever cough up some significant cash for those who made him so rich? Like maybe send each of them a million? I think that's the least he could do.
In Hollywood it's winner take all. Schwartz, like the rest of them, would more than likely show you the door while reminding you that you can simply return to your life in Broken Pelvis, Montana if you're unhappy here.
Actors back then got a real screwing of a lifetime. Especially if you were a child actor. I have the utmost respect for the actors of old who have helped bust open the doors for the future actors like Jackie Coogan's Law.

How do you make $90 million from the show over the years and not share it with the people that made the show?
EXACTLY what I asked!
You'll have to ask Shifty. I mean Sherwood.
You give each of them $1 million and you still got $83 million... and I'd still feel guilty I didn't give them enough.
your a comidem
Thanks , she was always my favorite castaway ....always
Cool Classics
Just want to let ya know... you are a great announcer with a great easy going understanding voice !! Keep up the good work ! 👍👍
I really appreciate that! I was nervous making these videos but thanks to people like you motivating me, I keep going and I feel like I am getting better. It also helps that I only make videos on people that I enjoy watching. Again, Thank You 😁
what a beauty. this channel is a favorite. thank you brother. i thought youtube was getting to dark for me. keep up the good work
I love watching Gilligan's Island back in the days I still love watching them all the reruns Marianne should have been paid very good she was the first lady on television wearing mini shorts
Dawn Wells is a QUEEN! Simply lovely and graceful! I have to say I was born too late for HER!
Truly inspiring. She was a legend and person of great honour. I loved Gillian's Island as a kid, and secretary wished Marianne and Gillian would be married or at least get together.
Same here! If I was Gilligan or as Bob Denver, I would have done Anything to have Dawn Wells be My Wife!
@@perryanderson5642 Perhaps he wasn't the Marianne... er... marrying kind. 😉
Skepticus Maximus, I agree. I so wanted Maryann and Gilligan to get together, too‼️
love the old school. miss my dad. they were honorable people. They dont make them like that anymore. RIP Dawn.
Thank you for jumping right into the topic!
The Howells did not need a raise they were millionaires 😏
Consider that MaryAnn initially was initially a character named 'Bunny' during the first pilot, which got scrapped and reshot after the network made Schwartz recast and revise script. Yet the Professor and MaryAnn were not part of the opening credits until later after Denver (Bob) protested. Which agreed did not justify Dawn's puny salary, despite MaryAnn's soaring popularity on the show.
Yeah, Bob Truly Cared about Dawn Wells.
I'm Watching Gilligans Island 56 years later and counting
Thank you for making this video. I didn't know most of the truth. She was an amazing person. Everyone loved Mary Ann, me too. But Dawn was even better.
The shoe is on the other foot today with actors. Their greed is disgusting. The reason the older shows weathered the test of time was the sweetness and honest innocence. Later shows have petered out pretty quick.
This was a great video - yes please do some more like this.
Very interesting. A glimpse into the behind the scenes. Such a sweet women.
Reno Native and was Miss Nevada in USA Beauty Pageant.
What a great lady. I talked to her when she came to Roanoke va back around 2016 and she was so sweet and a doll baby. She truly had a great ❤️. RIP. Dawn. Your missed very much.
She was one of a kind, no stars like this anymore, they're just the opposite now.
😈 😈 😈
Thanks for your work doing this. She was a great woman.
Thanks for listening! I love Dawn Wells!
Don't make 'em like Dawn anymore. What a class act.
Yes, but she was no act.
Sure they do. But the media and pop culture makes far more money promoting the jerks, grifters and lowlifes so we never hear much about the really good people in the world.
@@hughjass1044 Keanu Reeves.
@@hughjass1044 Love your name as a tribute to a great singer/ and song writer. Love Mr. Tanner and A Better Place to Be. Plus gotta love the live version of 30,000 Pounds of Bananas.
No kidding, a genuine role model from a kinder TeeVee time.
What a sweet character & a kind soul ❤️👧🏻 ... GORGEOUS inside & out 😃
I still love them all, .. I just watched the documentary Dawn did .. made me smile HUGE, ..
but wept dearly at the end 😢
Thank you for doing this wonderful video about Dawn .. Glad I found your show, I will check out more 🤙🏼🙂
She seemed like a class act.
All class and no act.
Dawn was my favorite on Gilligan's island, such a beautiful, talented woman, so difficult to believe what she went through, love her always.
I don't think anyone aged better than Dawn Wells. It sounds like she was as kind hearted as the character she played. RIP
Did Sherwood ever cough up some significant cash for those who made him so rich? Like maybe send each of them a million? I think that's the least he could do.
From what I've read I don't think he gave them anything he wasn't required to . He had a net worth of $175 million when he died .
In Hollywood it's winner take all. Schwartz, like the rest of them, would more than likely show you the door while reminding you that you can simply return to your life in Broken Pelvis, Montana if you're unhappy here.
@@pacz8114 Broken Pelvis! Damn! Ha ha!
Actors back then got a real screwing of a lifetime. Especially if you were a child actor. I have the utmost respect for the actors of old who have helped bust open the doors for the future actors like Jackie Coogan's Law.
No
Blessings! What a generous soul!
