To her early TV appearances on such sitcoms as The Real McCoys and Dennis The Menace. Did you know that she was married to Paul Davis while filming the Bewitched TV Show? How about her daily journal and diary? Lots of Bewitched facts 😁

She had the best facial expressions I've ever seen on TV 🤣🤣
I agree. Alice had the most comical facial expressions of any actor I’ve ever seen. I think Dick York also had incredible facial expressions and that’s what made his interpretation of Darrin Stephens so memorable. The way a face lights up and scrunches or reacts is everything in comedy. Facial plasticity is important. Jim Carrey understood this very well and made a career out of it. The other comediennes who did this so well were Lucille Ball & Carol Burnett. In modern times, the actress who epitomises this style of female comedic facial plasticity is Monica Horan who played Amy MacDougall-Barone in “Everybody Loves Raymond.” Monica is the modern day Alice Pearce and should play Gladys in any remake of Bewitched. Perfect casting.
"Abner! Abner!..." That couple embodied a timeless iconography of dysfunctional marriage that made everybody laugh.
It's so nice to hear a story about such a lovely person. I've watched Bewitched reruns my whole life, and I'd never heard this story. Thank you. Rest in peace Alice Pearce.
You got a kind and intelligent voice. No yelling.
No profanity. Thank you for this show. Keep them coming..
I really appreciate that!
I do that my grammar is not the best and people love to get on me about that. So your Positive comment, really made me feel good. Thank You :)
I clicked on this out of curiosity expecting to be mildly amused to hear about one of my favorite supporting characters from a TV show, and instead I was moved to tears to learn about the life of a talented and sweet woman, her friendships and loves, and a life cut too short by cancer. And yet it still made me smile, was life affirming, and gave me a whole new appreciation of someone who I just knew as the character whose name became synonymous with 'nosy neighbor.' Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful story. This made my day.
😁
Your comment captured what I thought & felt also, and so well put.
@Jen Toby Very well said, fantastic tribute to this amazing woman!
I have a new appreciation for “Gladys Kravitz” now. Thank you.
Couldn’t agree more with your sediment and comments. A beautiful soul that made me laugh and now cry- gone too soon . She valued and journaled the love of her 2 husbands and family to help the future. I Grew up watching this show as a kid with my family. Fond memories and a much simpler time and world
She was such a talented actress. Her facial expressions as Gladys Kravitz were priceless.
I misread your post for a second, I thought it said "Gladys KNIGHT" (LOL) - I had something in my eye which (messed) with my vision momentarily.
@@farrellmcnulty909 ,GK, my favorite singer.
@@shirle7343 She's great. I'd like to get those Buddha Records albums again - Imagination, I feel A song.
Nobody else could do those expressions
Well done. Surprisingly more moving than I expected. Thanks.
I loved hearing how devoted her husband was to her. She really should have lived longer, with such love and devotion in her life.
Wow. I never knew 'Gladys' could sing and dance. I loved her on Bewitched. I think her character is more remembered than all the other Bewitched characters. I think because all of us can relate to having a Gladys Kravitz in our neighborhood. And most of us can even relate to having a little Gladys Kravitz in us too.
My neighbor and I call each other Gladys!
@LindyTN Well said.
My husband calls me Gladys!!!
Thank you for this look into this beautiful soul that graced so many TV screens!
@@linghandar3950 ❤
The Actor who played Abner was also excellent, his deadpan put downs of Gladys were priceless.
George Tobias was hilarious - he was a real asset to the cast.
There was one show where he was playing the flute while Gladys was bothering him - I thought that was hilarious.
That actor was George Tobias, who had a long career in movies and television. I liked him in The Glenn Miller Story, playing a dancehall manager.
George Tobias played a Greek in a lot of old movies.
the two of them were perfect together!
You were wrong, Alice. Despite the chin, you radiated beauty, especially with your eyes. Your Gladys Kravitz is one of the most memorable TV characters of television's Golden Age. You left us a legacy of laughter despite the pain that you must have endured, and I, for one, am forever grateful. PS - I'm not crying; you are!
Yes she was beautiful inside and out!!
I couldn't agree more!!
"They" say that beauty is only skin deep but I think "they" are wrong. Beauty is heart deep, and Alice had enough heart to be truly beautiful. She was a lovely woman.
Well I am crying. I have nothing but admiration for this little GIANT of a woman. I know that she had to be in great pain, and yet she worked hard to make is laugh. We wouldn't have known what she was going through had it not been for the weight loss.
My Mom fought cancer for 12 years. In the end when she died her tiny little body was wrought with cancer. One time as I was hugging her, I felt lumps all around her rib cage. I asked Mom what they were. She said they're cancer tumors honey. I asked why don't they remove them. She said those aren't doing any harm. It's the tumors in my lungs that are killing me. She said all this during our looonng morning hug. She never stopped smiling, she told me how much she loved me, she said that I was her favorite child, and that she always wanted that morning hug from me.
After she died, over the years during family gatherings I had conversations with my siblings (2 brothers 5 sisters). Turns out we all had similar conversations with Mom, and she told each one of us that..."you are my favorite child"
I'm not sure why I told you this story, but it sure feels good remembering this.
Thank You Gladys Kravitz
You have made me smile once again.
@@petebenassi6588 I have a couple of favorite stories of my dad's lasts days. I think we tell them as a way of sharing their love and strength with others as well as to remind ourselves of how blessed we were to have them. Yours made me think of my dad and that's never a bad thing. So, thank you!
She was the true entertainer and a trooper! She was already diagnosed with terminal cancer which she kept a secret, before she got the part of Gladys on BEWITCHED and kept everyone laughing until her health forced her to leave the series.
Very well done. What a wonderful person she was. I didn't know anything about her actual life. I am so sorry that she died so young.
So sorry she died so young you know it was considered Young if you died at 41 now we think it's young if we die at 72 which is my age and I don't think I have too much time left God bless her and everyone else for bringing us such joy and continuing to bring us such joy in these movie clips
@@dbtschan , That`s true , nowadays if a person dies before 80 , we say something like " wow , she was only 76 "... The wonderful Alice Pearce made it to middle age at least and basically died doing what she loved .
I knew why she passed away but had no idea how much she did before Bewitched. That part was just made for her.
What a wonderful story about Alice Pearce. She is my personal favorite incarnation of Gladys Kravitz. Had no idea she'd started with so many icons like Gene Kelly, Fred Astaire and even Agnes Moorhead in so many musicals. Glad she found a man who truly loved her after the loss of her first husband. And she utilized the diary she kept when she had cancer to help others in the future. What an amazing human being.
I agree. This video has helped me to have a deeper appreciation of a very talented film star and an incredible human being. Rest In Peace, BEAUTIFUL Alice Pearce.🙏🏻❤️
If there ever was a proper reboot of Bewitched, I can see Melissa Rauch playing a younger version of Gladys Kravitz but still just as nosy. Johnny Galecki could make an interesting Darren and Allison Janney as Endora would be the best.
@@kenthuang436 Omg, I love your suggestions for the characters. Allison would be hilarious. Better Midler could be Aunt Clara.
Didn't realize Melissa is only 4' 11"
@@donaldstanfield8862 I was actually thinking Betty White for Aunt Clara because she's so lovable but then I remembered how old Betty is . Jim Parsons would make a great Uncle Arthur.
I got hooked on Bewitched in my 20s when a cable channel showed re-runs and quickly became obsessed as I am to this day. I have never laughed so much in a single scene as I have watching Alice. The sheer energy she bought to the role never dropped. So much respect on every level. Continue to shine like the star you ARE Alice x
These episodes always get me. Happy she had a life partner that loved and supported her.
In my family, when one of us would look out the window to see what was going on in the neighborhood, we called in "Kravitzing". I have a renewed appreciation for the awesome character Gladys was now after learning about the wonderful woman who created her. Thanks for the great videos.
Love that!
@@CoolClassics Me too! You must be proud that you have led to the stirring up of a new word!
Kravitzing, love that. My daughter warns me I'm being Aunt Petunia. lol
BAHAHAHAAH!! That's hilarious, thanks for sharing!
My mom is a Kravitz..er
So sad.
What a wonderful group of people in the Bewitched show, Elizabeth Montgomery and Ed Asher to care and look out for Alice and her dear husband afterwards. Real people.
Exactly, she was as beautiful on the inside as the outside...and what a sweetheart Gene Kelly was too...I've heard lots of similar stories about his thoughtfulness and kindness.
@@lorimiller4301 i don't know about that?
William Asher.
@@donaldstanfield8862 That's correct LOL! (It was late in the evening- brain freeze lol.)
@@lorimiller4301 It's too bad you had to bring this into the conversation even if it is truth. Most of us realize that she was dying herself during the filming of the show; she had been diagnosed before being selected. She very likely didn't think she had energy or life to waste on a married man who was "in love" with someone else's wife.
Both actors had their own tragedies.
'Gladys Kravitz' is worthy of a heavy metal bands name. Alice Pearce was a legitimate rock and roller before the actual phrase was coined by Alan Freed. The actress was a beloved highlight of 'Bewitched'. Fantastic research on your part 'Cool Classics'. Gladys rules baby!
🤣👍
Truly unforgettable and a beautiful woman!
Alice Pearce was more than just an actress, she was a fabulous woman and an inspiration.
So talented and gifted! Much ❤️
Real beauty isn’t on the outside, but that what comes from the heart. What a wonderful actress who shared her talent with us all.
U saying she’s ugly or something?
It’s really sad…. So talented and to be diagnosed with cancer and at such a young age. She did what she loved and she did I it well. You do a great job on these videos.
Alice was by all accounts a pure gem of a woman. It's so tragic that her life was cruelly snuffed out by cancer. Who knows what she could have achieved had she lived but sadly we shall never know.
If I were around back then and not as young as I was in the 60s I surely would have liked to have met her. She was a courageous lady and so talented too.
Rest in peace sweet Alice , Rest in peace.
She was absolutely beautiful, amazingly funny, and ever so talented!
I still use the term "Mrs. Kravitz" for myself when I'm being nosy!😀😁😀😁

She died a year before I was born, but I loved her as a child on Bewitched and still do at age 54!
She was a child on Bewitched? Bah hah! 😆🙃
I really loved this piece on Alice Pearce. I never knew she was such a talented actress and comedian. You did such a lovely and classy job of telling her story.
What a brave and intelligent woman... And I disagree with her, I think she was beautiful!
Thank you so much!
Oh God!!Alice was so funny. She made the Gladys Kravitz character to perfection.
A true talent and a Commedian.
She was truly missed.
Because of this video I will find more of her work to watch. Bewitched is still one of my very favorite shows of all time
I watch it over and over again especially episodes with Alice!!
An extremely talented actress but more importantly, a truly beautiful soul. Liz Montgomery too!
Alice was a good singer.
So beautifully done for a remarkable woman. She always makes me laugh when I see the old reruns. The way she would holler 'Abner!' was priceless. She was a one of a kind lady! May her memory live on....😊

So much life packed in to a mere 48 years! What a brilliant soul she was and no doubt, still is wherever she shines in the Universe now.🙏🏻🌹
Thank you! It is enriching to know these gems. I was raised on these shows as a TV child of the sixties.
What a class act! Excess of bravery and love of life. RIP Alice. Unforgettable.
No one could yell, "ABNER!" like her. I knew she was in On the Town, but I did not know about all of her other projects and that she had her own show. What a career and what a (far too short) life. You did a great job in paying tribute to this talented woman. (And she is quite beautiful in those earlier photos.)
Such a lovely tribute to this absolutely hilarious and talented actress. It made me so happy to see someone really acknowledge her career with such appreciation and gratitude. Too often we focus only on the big stars and not the incredible supporting actors who often completely round out the picture they are in as she did in many of her films. Yhanks again! I really enjoyed it!
Couldn't agree more!
@@CoolClassics Awesome job, I so enjoyed watching such a heartfelt tribute to this lovely lady!
It's too bad about her chin
Alice Pierce was a wonderful comedy actress. She was so funny in 'On The Town'. Thanks.
The entire original cast of Bewitched was truly special...and will always be unforgettable to me. Alice Pearce was one of my absolute favorites...she certainly made Gladys Kravitz so much fun to watch. God bless these incredibly sweet and talented artists who make such a profound difference in our lives. Excellent!
This profile segment almost moved me to tears. I remember watching the show in the mid 60s. Many of us did notice (back then) how thin she became. But she always seemed so full of energy in her performances so one questioned anything. Then, she just disappeared from the show. The public didn't find out until much later what had happened to her. What an amazing talent she was! R.I.P. Alice Pearce.
💜
Fantastic video. I'm so glad this woman was surrounded by love her entire life. And she gave the rest of us such an incredible gift, too: laughter. That's a life well lived.
I love this lady! Thank you for honoring her in this lovely way.
This brought me to tears. What a wonderful woman. Who knew what a wonderful person she was? I just subscribed because I think I want to see more of this work that you do. Thank you!
I loved that lady…..she was so funny & I never realized just how talented she was ❤❤
💜
She was a beautiful woman in a quiet way. She played a frustrated mother in a commercial.
Im not surprised how lovely Elizabeth was with Gladys as she was always an amazing person. The best thing for Gladys was to be in Bewitched as she was happy and loved by everybody. I admire both Ladies for their friendship and attitudes.❤🌟
With so much negativity surrounding Hollywood and various studios, I guess I'd grown quite cynical about it all. After seeing this though, the amount of care and compassion the Bewitched crew and actors had for each other, it really warms my heart. So glad to have seen it. Thank you 💗
wow! what an amazing woman! i wish i knew about her journal when cancer was killing my husband. he died at 54. for only being in 27 episodes, she’s one of the most fondly remembered characters besides elizabeth. you did such excellent work on this video! seamless! and it was so interesting with no slow spots! it went by so fast! thanks!
Alice Pearce was such a Good actress she had me believing she was crazy even though she wasent as Gladys kravitz.. brilliant expressive actress..
I'm so happy to see how many others appreciated this individual's talent. My brothers and I laughed so loud and long at Alice Kravitz's expressions ...for years. THANK YOU!!
That was superb! Sad, I had tears in my eyes. What an incredibly strong woman though. Great to hear how kind and supportive Elizabeth Montgomery and her husband were towards her. At least she had two great lives in her brief but memorable life ❤️🌟
Alice proves that "Attitude is everything. Even in the worst cases, you have an option to choose your attitude: how'd you respond to that problem. You can't ignore negative ..."
Character actors like Alice were the key to quality of stage, radio, film and early tv back then. Without them….the stars wouldn‘t shine at all. They worked hard for their money to just get buy but are immortalized in these wonderful productions we can still see today thanks to your wonderful UA-cam channel! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👍👍 😊

When Alice was singing w/ Gene Kelly you could hear the future Gladys Kravitz in her voice....lol. As always thank you so much for a wonderful video 😊👍
I'm rewatching Bewitched again. Last time was in the mid 90s. This time I'm getting in depth with the people behind the actress / actors. What an extraordinary group of humans that was on this show. Their love and compassion for each other comes through on the screen.
This was a truly lovely background story, that has made me appreciate this actress and the people who surrounded her. Thankyou
What a beautiful testimonial to Alice Pearce you have brought to us here. You have given her the greatest compliment by featuring her finest and most poignant moments, but most of all her humility, her generosity, and her dignified and courageous response to her terminal illness. BRAVO!

I have always liked Gladys Kravitz from the get go. A good friend and I have always yelled "Abner, come quick" whenever something surprised us. I am an 66 year old African American and I retired in April of 2020, and I have titled myself as the Black Gladys Kravitz because I spend a lot of time looking out my windows...that's the goofy love I have for her character from Bewitched. Alice Pierce is the best...and always will be...the laughter she supplies is good for the world...the whole damn world, believe me!!!
How very special. What a befitting, beautiful tribute. She was a very special lady. Thanks so much for your dedication and wonderful work.

There are some actors that stand out in the backdrop. Because they were once headed for greatness. And in the end achieve it. Oh My Goodness! She really had a wonderful singing voice. I have always loved her. Once I was being a nosey neighbor and my sweetheart accused me of being Gladys Kravitz. I said thank you for the compliment!
Thank you for this wonderful tribute to a talented versatile woman..so sad to pass too early..at the very least she led a full life and found love in all it's forms...her fellow friends were so empathetic and again she expressed her gratitude by journalling her thoughts on life and illness ..the support they gave her... beautiful.

Sometimes I wonder what Bewitched would have been like if Alice Pearce, Dick York, Irene Vernon and Marion Lorne had been with the show in its entire run.
It's interesting that in each case instead of replacing the character they played they simply recast the role when these actors left the show.

Coincidentally, I happen to be watching this video on October 16th, the 104th anniversary of Alice Pearce's birth. Happy birthday to a funny and talented lady. And once again, thank you for another cool and interesting video.
What a terrific video. I am so glad to know that she had two wonderful close marriages and was loved and supported by the Bewitched cast as she battled cancer. Thank you for revealing what a thoughtful and lovely person she was and how she left a journal for others who battle cancer.
