I spent many afternoons after school watching this show and I always wondered if Gilligan secretly sabotaged every solution to leave the island because he was in love with Mary Ann.
Beauty is not everything by any means... but young or old, she is BEAUTUFUL! In heart & spirit as well as looks :)

I bought the entire season's episodes on DVD and I watch them to escape reality. They still make me laugh just as they did when I watched the series on television as a teenager during the 1970s. It is the first time I have seen it in colour too.
I just watched the entire run of episodes on DVD, too (over a period of three months, I might add!).
They're witty, intelligent, sharply written, brilliantly directed and acted, and often surprisingly deep.
I have it too! I think GI and Columbo .. are the only series on disc I ever binged watched.
You can't help but love this lady! So fun, positive, and aware of the impact this show has had on pop culture.
She stole my 10 year old heart back then.

My favorite character was on Gilligan's Island was Mary Ann Summers played by the late Dawn Wells of course and I miss her dearly

No doubt! She's why I watched the show. And when The Skipper took off his hat to slap Gilligan.
As it turned out "and the rest" became and still are two of the most loved characters from the show. "The Professor and Mary Ann". But yeah we love them all, a big source of light-hearted joy for all of us kids growing up in the 60s.
Man, i fell in love with her as a young boy and she's still cute after all these decades!

I have heard that Dawn Wells DID and does receive residuals.
As the story goes, she was one of the last ones hired when the show was going in to production. Her husband at the time was an agent. As a gimme, he asked for residuals to be included in the contract-- and no one ever thought that it would amount to anything.
So she received residuals all those years-- and kept it secret because she knew it would cause issues with the other cast members if they knew.

Always loved Dawn Wells. Have to say she's aged pretty well. Still quite lovely and charming. As far as the Ginger vs. Mary Ann question, it's no contest. Mary Ann all the way. Sweet, cute figure, and she would make you a coconut cream pie. What more could you ask for? Ginger was too high maintenance.

I saw a photo of Mary Ann at 80 years of age on the "Then and Now" video. I am 56 years old and I would still chase her like she was the last lady on the planet. She is just incredible. Who would think you would say an 80 year old that she is HOT but she is!!!

At 3.06 Dawn hit the nail on the head "it made you happy" it was a fun happy trivial laugh out loud show and i loved it i was 10 when it finished and we got reruns for a long time here in OZ and i still watched it for years later tv was fun and entertaining as there were so many great shows we got from overseas at that time.
I don't know if this was coincidence. But her character is from Kansas. Dorothy was from Kansas. A storm took Mary Ann away from Kansas. A tornado took Dorothy away from Kansas I wonder if it was an idea the producers had in mind . Maybe I have to much time on my hands

"The show became a 'modest hit' " WHAT? The show was wildly successful with viewers, and even to this day. It was the critics and execs who couldn't stand it.
And from that 'fateful' day forward.. the show has never gone off the air. Not bad for a 'modest hit'.

As of today the only person living from the Gilligans Island cast is Tina Louise.
She is such a sweet person to have been through all that she has been through.

She was really good in all the tv acting she did. Many of those programs are in reruns today. Gilligan was at the top of the ratings when it was in its final year. It should have stayed on. It was childish but harmless and funny.
